Have you ever seen someone completely enjoying life? Living to their fullest, not brought down by anyone or anything, totally having their stuff together? It's almost like they know secrets you don't. This show is about those secrets. Don't worry. Not very many people know these secrets. Or if they do, they don't apply them. These secrets are skills and mindsets not taught in any college or high school course. We may have heard of them, but no one taught us how to actually apply them to our lives. Which is a shame, because when you apply them, your life becomes more awesome. That's why I created this podcast, for teens who are looking to up the awesome level in their lives. I am Joey Mascio and I’m a Teen & Young Adult Life Coach. I was certified at the Life Coach School where I was trained by Master Life Coach Brooke Castillo. I've also gone through Jody Moore's Advanced Certification. I take the strategies and tools I’ve learned from these two powerful women, and lots of my own, and adapt them for teenagers and young adults. I am also a middle school teacher and counselor, a proud father of three, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Sometimes, just starting the thing we need to do is the hardest part of doing it. Actually doing it usually isn't even that bad! Today, I teach tweens and teens how to use the "3, 2, 1, GO!" strategy to get yourself to start the thing you've been procrastinating for way too long.

A teen's body language communicates SO MUCH. There are ways teens can stand, sit, and walk that will not only create confidence within yourself, but also signal to other people that you ARE confident. I interview special guest Derik Clark, a 22-year US Army veteran officer who specialized in counterintelligence (anti spy) investigations and intelligence source operations (similar to police informant stuff). Through these ...
The biggest fear of any tween or teen is people thinking they are weird. They'd almost rather die. "Weird" people don't make friends, right? But people thinking they are weird isn't as bad as their brain makes it out to be. In fact, if people think you're weird when you are just being yourself, you are MORE likely to find your friends, NOT less likely.

What effect is the digital age having on teen friendships? Most teens are used to communicating via emojis and shorthand text language! Sure, it's a lot easier than talking in person, but not the most effective way to communicate. Today I talk with teens about how this increase in online communication may be affecting their real life relationships and how to stop it.

Negative thoughts can really stop a teen from reaching their full potential. These thoughts can be changed into positive ones, though! If you know how. Throwing out a positive thought to a teen who really believes their negative one will just come off as cliche and cheesy. But, if you know how to do it right, you can totally turn that frown upside-down. Today's secret for an awesome life is the Ladder of Positivity!

No one likes to talk about physical or sexual abuse, which can lead to victims of this kind of abuse to not want to talk about it either. I bring on Ben Pugh, my friend and a fellow life coach, to talk about his experience of being a victim of sexual & physical abuse as well as his experience helping victims as a principal and foster parent. We approach this very serious topic in a way that’s not too heavy for listener...
A teen's fear of being seen as "cocky" often stops them from truly being confident. Why can't we admit our talents and achievements?? There is totally a way to be confident without being cocky. You just also have to be able to admit your flaws, as well. In this episode, I talk to teens about how not to cross that line into arrogance and how being able to claim your wins will lead to more of them.

Welcome to Season 5! I start this season by talking to tweens and teens about how we label ourselves. Some labels limit us and some help us grow. But all labels are self-given. If teens can work on removing the limiting labels and believing more in the helpful labels, they'll create a healthier and happier mindset.

Age is a big deal for teens. I get it. I'm turning 40 tomorrow. Age is a big deal for me, too! But, does it have to be? How might you be limiting yourself because of a number? I know the government and other organizations put age limits on things, but is your brain also limiting you? "I'm only 13, I can't be a leader of a club." Remove all self-imposed limitations and you'll be able to do a lot more than you think. Just no...

Sometimes teens feel left out of their friend group. Maybe they are younger than their friends, have a different religion, race, economic situation, GPA, whatever! However, most times it is not our friends leaving us out. It is our own mind. In this episode, I share a clip of one of my Sidekick to Hero livestreams where a teen gets some coaching on this exact thing.

Whatever it is that we are holding on to, ...
