An ice-cream container, filled to the brim with water had been gingerly and very carefully carried across from the tap to the new pen. Grubby hands had eagerly spread the chook pellets to help them feel at home, the chickens settled in to stay and so, therefore, they needed names... When the large semi-trailer tried to negotiate the bend at three corners, rather unsuccessfully after the work Christmas party, the entire town got a present that most would have preferred never to have received. Produced by Postie, photo by Stefan.

Losing her house wasn’t the end of the world, she tried reminding herself. It was a silly phrase. Losing.

She hadn’t lost it at all, it was right there where the developer would be bulldozing it into a thousand tiny matchsticks.

Every time he climbs the stairs, she sees that he looks in. Is it a reflex? Is it curiosity? Is it a little more sinister? The stairs run along her loungeroom windows, so many people walking up to the top flats do peep in, then realise what they’re doing and look away quickly. Embarrassed.
