Why Not? is a podcast for creatives. Hosted by life coach + musician, Jill Morris - This podcast is for artists, musicians, makers, creatives of all kinds. We discuss all the reasons you *should* go after the exact life you know you were meant for. The dream they said you'd grow out of - but instead - you're growing into it. Why not just do what you know in your soul you want to do? Why not?
I often hear success talked about as if it has some universally agreed upon definition. And often the implication has something to do with career and/or money. But it can mean anything you want. Anything.
In this episode I explore my own thoughts on success, I share ways I cultivate the feeling of success or arrive at it, and tons of questions for you to explore and arrive at your own definition. I hope this episode sparks more con...
Yes, I myself have said "Rest is Productive." And it can be. For sure. But also - when was the last time you rested or cared for yourself for the SAKE of resting + caring for yourself, and not as a means to get back to work? Today I share lessons from my latest burnout so we all learn from it.
Listen in to hear:
Not all of productivity is active creation. AND some is co-creation. Our society prioritizes doing doing doing but I reject it + show you in this episode a different way to think about and relate to productivity.
Listen in to hear:
You don't have to shame yourself into action. You don't have to feel terrible when you don't do the thing. AND you can still hold yourself accountable. And get things done.
Listen in to hear:
Confidence is about the quality of your self trust, not the quality of your work. It's not about "Am I good enough?" "Is my art good?" It's - "I trust in my capacity to learn, and grow, and evolve, and create." Period.
Listen in to hear:
Belonging is a choice. It's not given to you by anyone else. It is yours to decide. But of course, it's not always that easy right! So I'm here to give you some thoughts to try on so that you can decide to belong now.
In this episode I talk about:
This is the audio of the IG live I did last week that really resonated with a lot of you, so now it's on the podcast where you can listen anytime! (And at 1.5x the speed, if you're like me!)
I know a lot of you are starting, building, or growing creative business + careers. So I'm here today to share my best business tips so you can focus on what matters and have time left over for the whole reason you're doing w...
Since 99% of achieving your goal is the process of achieving it and not the moment of achievement - let's make that process fun and NOT pressurized! I've learned a lot over the years of how to balance accountability without pressure and I'm sharing it all today! So you can achieve your goals AND maybe just maybe (definitely) have more fun in the process!
I talk about:
Or your wallet. Today I'm talking about a tool I use with myself and my clients to gain awareness and create ACTUAL (and often instant) change.
If you find yourself repeating the same patterns like walking out the door without your wallet and then saying "Oh I'll definitely remember next time" and then... not. Over and over and over - this episode is for you.
This is how I create new habits. Th...
Don't set goals hoping and trying to achieve them. And then quit the second you start to doubt it. Set your goals and treat them like your next tour. Like it's happening. 100%. And you're just doing everything within your control to make it a reality.
In this episode I talk about:
Perfection is a lie. Or it's real and it's just you being your true authentic self, which is my favorite definition.
Listen in for all things perfectionism and the ONE thought you need to think to shift out of it.
I talk about:
2021 has been my most transformational year yet and I've never felt more confident or stoked for the future than I do right now! And it's because of the lessons I'm sharing in this episode.
As I was going through my own work in Hella Year 2022, I realized that the lessons I learned this year would be SO valuable for you all to hear as well, so I'm sharing them here!
My biggest lessons in 2021:
Consistency is NOT a specific frequency. It IS trusting yourself to always come back to something. You trust yourself to do it again. Whenever that is.
AND you CAN set a frequency - and I'll talk about what to think about when doing so to be the most successful.
Listen in for tips on staying consistent, how to think about consistency, how this relates to stepping into the identity of someone who is consistent...
I see so many people setting a million goals at the beginning of the year - thinking of "what would be fun this year?" And what I think? Throwaway goals are a waste of mental space and energy.
It is much more useful to set LESS goals that you are ACTUALLY committed to achieving. Because the added benefit is that other goals will happen as a byproduct. Because you are focused on growth, as we talked about in last week'...
The AIM of the goal is to achieve it. But it's not the point. And when you make achieving the goal the point it makes it harder to achieve and easier to quit.
So what is the point of the goal? Growth. And the way to achieve a goal: commitment + consistency.
Keep setting the goal in the same timeframe until you hit it. Keep assessing and learning each time. EVEN WHEN YOU DO ACHIEVE IT.
And join me for Hella Yea...
Spoiler alert: There is no right way. There is YOUR way.
But also - asking am I doing this right or wrong? Is just not the most useful question to ask.
In this episode I explore the useful questions to ask and how to think differently about there being a "right" or a "wrong" way.
