The point of Future Echoes — surprisingly, not an homage to Slomatics, but I do love them — is to have fun remembering great music from the past and digging into the new what next!  Showing us old folks that great music is certainly still being made, you  just got too busy to search it out, and hopefull...

We had a lovely sit-down this week with Andy Gibbs, guitar player for Thou. Andy is a thoughtful chap and has been in the heavy game for a long time. We talked about how/why Thou has been so prolific, what it was like to record a Tiny Desk concert, working with friends on collaborations, playing festivals, and the true nature of Louisiana sludge (hint, it's not the swamp). It was weird and glorious...so we decided to record on the way (and back) in the car. We listened to all the bands on the undercard and gave our two cents...most we had never listened to before. We have quite a treat today...all the way from Cardiff Wales, it's Jessica Ball, MWWB's singer and guitar player. We talked about growing up in South Africa and moving back to Wales, studying jazz guitar, how the band was formed, how they got such a cheeky name, and dealing with guitar player Paul's serious health issues. We got some dirt on her other band Eye, and listened to a spectacular set of submissions.

Nothing really needs to be said here. Mike graced us with over 3 hours of his time to tell stories, laugh, listen to music,  discuss the stonerrock.com forums, and talk about the almost incomprehensible ascendance of Yob to the metal pantheon. Our main takeaway after talking with Mike? This is a great guy who simply loves music. Also, the discussion of his new classical composition is awesome. Yob's got 4 shows at Saint Vitus ...
