Tra l'ottobre 1980 e il giugno 1981, cinque giovani uomini si presentano a un ospedale di Los Angeles con una strana infezione polmonare e il sistema immunitario compromesso. Sono i primi cinque casi di quella malattia che verrà chiamata Aids: sindrome da immunodeficienza acquisita, causata dal virus dell'Hiv. Un filo rosso attraversa la storia e la geografia della pandemia che ha portato alla morte di più di 36 milioni di persone nel mondo e che ha causato discriminazioni e sofferenze ai sieropositivi. Dalla mobilitazione sociale per mettere fine allo stigma e garantire cure e assistenza, ai progressi sanitari ottenuti grazie alla collaborazione internazionale, racconteremo i punti di svolta nella lotta all'Aids e le sfide ancora da vincere.
