If you always save your best equipment, weapons, and money till the very end, and then the game ends with you never having used them, it is almost as good as if you never had that equipment, weapons, and money in the first place.

Your guy won the election and there's a lot of euphoria in you and everyone "on your side". The world is finally going to change for the better. The enemy will be forced to retreat... blah blah blah

Euphoria is a strong emotion but like any other emotion, it is fleeting. Pretty soon the euphoria (or despair if your guy lost) will leave and hard reality will set in.
