(00:43):
is the ID Couple. I'm Chris Brusar the Lasside my
partner Rob Parker. We are coming to you live from
the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios. Fifteen minutes could save
you fifteen percent more on your car insurance. Visit Geico
dot com for a free rate quote. And we are
here on our Funky flash Back Friday. DJ Alex tischert
(01:07):
as always on the ones and twos, and you can
bring funk. Now we don't have to play Christmas songs
even though you made it. You made the holiday songs funky.
But now you can do your thing and dig in
the crates. But it's an NFL wild Card weekend coming up,
of course, and we're gonna talk plenty of NFL got
some great guests too, a celebrity corner at the bottom
(01:29):
of the hour. All I'm gonna say is this, it's
a hip hop legend, all right, it is a hip
hop legend. Rob probably never heard of him because he's
in the groups like Chief he went to my school, Rush,
What are you talking about? Yes, he's from Long Island.
He went to Southern Connecticut State Universal. You have something,
(01:50):
but what you don't even know? You don't even He
went to sh that's not the name of it, Southern
Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut North, one of
the greatest college towns, one of the greatest college towns
(02:11):
in this country. Then why do you always claim Columbia.
I watched the Columbia to the intro, say one went
to an IVY League school, other than one went to
a Division three, Division two school in the south side
of Connecticut. One. Why would you say that, Well, we
don't have enough. We had that in there, but it
didn't fit. Columbia was just a clean or an easier
(02:33):
fit IVY League. You know what I'm saying. And it
was to one up you that you didn't go to
IVY League, that a league college is a Midwest ivy.
It ain't no such things the Midwest. It's a poison ivory,
is what it is. That's when you went to poison ivy. Alright, alright, alright, alright,
you got some nerves. You don't know who he is.
(02:55):
I just told you what group was he with? PMD Alright, alright,
I'm but but I want you to ask him jam
the EPM. Yes, I did. I know you were older
when they came out. I want you to ask him
what school we did he go to? They went to
the Southern Connecticut, Connecticut Institute of Techno Community College North.
(03:15):
Don't this my school? We had? We had top shelf
rappers coming out of New Haven, Connecticut. What I didn't
introduced the Eye Couple crew. That's right. So we can
get to it and I can smash you in these debates.
And you see how firey. I've already done two shows today,
six hours on the board. I'm going up to nine
(03:37):
nine hours stop. I'm the radio God Radio. I'm the
king of all media. I just did six hours. I
crushed everybody who I had this morning. I'm gonna crush you.
It'll be three for three. The hat trick. I wouldn't
let it slide. I was going to let it slide,
(03:59):
but because you started bragging about hard I work. The
hardest working man is show business. I missed the dynamite,
like James Brown you if you hadn't have gone there,
I wouldn't have called you out. But now I've got
to call your bluff. Rod Parker talking about how hard
you work. Yeah, okay, this week you're doing three shows
(04:20):
a day and I applaud. That's a hard that's a
hard week. That is a hard week. But here's the problem.
Here's the problem. You just took ten days off to
go to Antarctica, and in a month or two you're
taking another ten days off to go on the freaking
Golden Girl's cruise. So don't give me the bragging dosha.
(04:45):
Don't tell me about how hard you work when every
other month you're taking a week and a half off
and it ain't even for fun stuff. It is fun
the Golden Girls cruise Antarctica. Just wait and see when
I come back. I might have I get csick pretty soon. Rob.
Everybody there is gonna be as old as your mom. Wow, seriously,
(05:10):
I'm am I wrong. No, there'll be young girls there
like the couple. I mean working the Golden Girl. They're working.
I might meet the midnight buffet, I might meet somebody
who's working on the ship. All right, let's welcome into
the odd couple of creel. He's gonna rip me because
I worked so hard and I want to take a
week off. I just do my job every day. I
(05:33):
don't take off every two don't tell you know you
take off every week. Really, I worked last week Christmas week,
I worked TV and radio. You did like one day.
I would sharing here four days of TV and radio.
All right, let's welcome into the odd couple of crew.
Alex and I both know because we're here all the time.
I do since DJ tysher sliding a little, a little
(05:56):
to my well, because we bonded, we worked together all
the time. The champ is here in the long Hey Chris,
have you seen these Jordans yet? All right, here we go.
All right, let's welcome into our couple of cool. Wouldn't
be able to do this fine radio program without him. Gavin,
of course, is our producer filling in for Rob g today.
Alex our engineer Steve de Sagers at the anchor desk.
(06:19):
He'll keep us updated throughout the program, and our social
media guru Elijah is here as well. They're all on
the other side of the glass. Come on, Chris Boussot
on this fucking flashback Friday. Let's kick some ass. Let's
do it. And speaking of kicking tail, I gotta feeling
(06:42):
we're in church out. That was Wednesday, New England Patriots.
I'm not gonna share my pick yet, but they play
Tennessee and I think that Tom Brady and Bill Belichick
might have something up their sleeve for these upstart Tennessee Titans,
but here they didn't. Gavin, I'll say it's real quick.
Check out our pigskin picks all year about football soul
(07:04):
you Chris Well, this year I had the Super Bowl hangover.
I won. I'm the only one with a ring we
do on even had the show for a year, but
I won the first. I won the an not as
much as I beat you this year. I beat you
like a draw. That's not true. I beat you like
a Last year. You were horrible. Last I still wasn't
over fifty percent. I wasn't below fifty. You're below fifty
(07:24):
matter running all a running ten? What is fifty six?
Thirty three? And one for rob Hey fifty six thirty three.
Chriscentages that it's not as good as uh, it's not
as bad as this. That's fifty six percent, right, thirty
six I was sixty one of the two sixty thirty six.
(07:48):
I was sixty four last we're talking about this year.
That's all news. Chris. I got the record. Not only
do I have a ring, I have the record high
a couple of record for picks. So until you do
something like that, stop it, something, stop it. Chris is amazing,
like like like the way he could talk himself into
(08:09):
feeling good about him. So he stunk up the joint.
He was the original Freddy Bathrooms this year, Hey, Muhammed
Ali took a few elves, but he still was what
the greatest. In fact, it's a perfect time, Alex, No,
oh god, it's a perfect time. If you hadn't played it,
I really would have been like, hold up those Jordan's
definitely bought his soul. I was rob came in second
(08:32):
last year, but he won eleven games more than you. Yes,
thank you, thank you. Yeah. I was sixty four percent
last year. Robber's fifty six percent. You weren't in the
write home about fifty six percent. That's you were like
thirty some percent? What was I had the Super Bowl hangover?
(08:55):
But let's go, I can't. I took you lightly and
with good reason. I've been coming to the NFL since
nineteen eighty six. Next year, I'm coming hard. All right,
here's the deal. This could be Tom Brady's last game
with the New England Patriots, and many people, many plugged
in reporters, are saying it will be. Whenever they lose,
that'll be his last game. The question Rob is should
(09:19):
it be? And I say no, I say absolutely, it
should be the last game. You've been saying that for
five years. And it's a combination of things. The reason why, Hey,
I think the Patriots should move on, but I also
believe that Tom Brady should move on. They gave him
a bogus contract with no guaranteed money in the final
two years. He's never gotten paid what he deserves. And
(09:42):
I'm talking about as being that quarterback that's won six championships,
and they never took that extra money that Tom Brady
was helping out the roster, and they never brought in
guys to help him boast up his offense, to help
Tom Brady, So why stick around, Go get paid, Go
get a nice contract. You gotta beautiful offs in southern California.
(10:02):
Your wife is out here for her model, and do
all that come to the Chargers. Get away from Bill
Belichick and the Patriots, and you know what, try to
be Peyton Manning and win another championship elsewhere so people
will know and your legacy will be. Tom Brady was
not a system quarterback stock who just benefited off of
(10:22):
Bill Belichick. He's the goat to everybody on earth except you,
and and you calling him a system quarterback. System quarterback.
Bill Belichick has had coached seven seasons without Tom Brady.
Guess how many times he made the playoffs once, even
in New England. Don't get me on with the Browns. No,
(10:42):
he wasn't just the Browns. He should he should have
had another one. He had eleven wins. When it's not
about the best, right, it's about making the playoffs. And
they havn't the year, so that didn't it was bad.
That was bad before the year before. I don't try
to deflect a year before Brady took over, Belichick won
(11:06):
five games in New England and then the season when
he took over. Belichick had a losing record when Brady
took over, Brady has been excellent. If anybody's been carried
and I think he's the goat as well, it's been Belichick.
And so Brady has nothing to prove. Now I will
say this, You go to the Chargers, you got better receivers,
(11:30):
Keenan Allen, they got a squad, got a squad. And
that's my point to New England. Don't be so clock.
This reminds me Bill Belichick all to talk about. He
wants to prove it without Brady. He wants to move on.
Guess who else wants to move on? Jerry Krause and
Jerry ryans doorf in Chicago from Michael and Phil Jackson.
(11:53):
How that work out? Do you remember when you remember
when don't be so quick to kill a dynasty gets
them skilled players in there that are top flight at
pairing with the older Tim Brady. Michael said he wanted
Phil Jackson to come back. The first thing the Bulls
did was say we're not residing Phil Jackson. So they
basically told Michael we don't get and you know why,
(12:14):
because they wanted to show it's not all about Michael,
we can do it. And that's what Belichick seems, at
least according to the reports that a lot of people say.
He seems been on that. Let me show I can
do it without time, No, do it with time and time.
Look again, the Chargers would gap some receivers for him,
(12:34):
but still it's different. You're comfortable in New England, You're
comfortable with the system. You're gonna be in trouble. Top
flight receivers in there to help him, and I think
they can still be a factor. You you were all
in on Dak he couldn't make it. You're a you're
all about this ship. I'm just saying he had one.
(12:56):
He didn't even have a bad season, but winning rise.
He had a bad He didn't be need body but
he has in his career. But this will be it
with Tom Brady, I think I'm saying for both parties,
for Bill Belichick, his obvious tension between the two. They
were saying that last there's this tension now and if
you can afore they won the Super you could pooh
(13:18):
pooh to Tom Brady putting his house up for saying
his trainer and all that he's out of New England.
People don't do that. That's like when Lebron bought his
other house here, you knew he was on his way here,
and Tom Brady's on his way. Should be all right,
what I'm saying, he's not out. I'm not gonna you know,
I believe the reporting out there. I'm just saying they
(13:38):
should think. Both sides need to reevaluate and say, you
know what, it's not that bad. You know, when you're
when you're married and you're your marriage is having trouble,
you're always looking elsewhere who you're telling. But here's the
thing with many divorced people, it's a marriage counseling. For me,
I've been married twenty four years. You bring the same
(13:59):
issue that you got into your next relationship, and oh,
it's all nice and great for you know at first,
because every relationship is like that at first. They might
be different issues in your next marriage, but they're gonna
be issues. They're gonna issues in every relationship. But sometimes
(14:19):
in Chris, I respect that you got twenty four years
on the books. I mean, I know it ain't easy,
but there are situations circumstances where things are so bad
and you're not happy that sometimes I think this is
England is low England? That bad? I never thought I
would be divorced. I didn't when I got married. Of
course you didn't. I really didn't. I never looked went
into it like that. I told you this before. Mike's
(14:42):
wife is the only woman I told you said, I
love you too, because I never took it for a
great because you were mean. No, I just didn't. I
would always just have a you know, something else to
se me. I was trying to be respectful, not to guess.
Guess these women up like you know, guy the player player,
I'm just trying to share women. They was all on me.
(15:04):
I want to mislead them. I mean, by the hundreds,
they were stacked though. You know what, you could either
stand outside will Champlain's door, my door, either one. Just
light up. Thanks for listening to the best of The
Odd Couple podcasts. Be sure to catch us live every
weekday from seven pm to ten pm Eastern four to

seven Pacific on Fox Sports Radio. Find your local station

by searching f s R my God, I Know for
the Odd Couple. Celebrity Corner. All right, this week, it's
(15:49):
a special guest, an absolute legend in hip hop. If
you don't know this man, you don't know hip hop,
just stop stop acting like you you know rap music
and hip hop. He is a rapper and producer extraordinaire
from the legendary group EPMD, none other than the Great
Eric Sermon. Eric, Welcome to the Once Half Brother. It's
(16:14):
great to have you on. Man, and Rob wants to
say something to you know I do. First of all,
I'm from Jamaica, Queens and I went to Southern Connecticut
State University, just like you guys did. Didn't you go there? Um?
Paris went there, but I was up there with the
most time yep up in new Haven. See, I knew
that it was a connection there. Y you know what? Yo.
Paras played quarterback in high school, went to New Haven.
(16:37):
He didn't get to start a quarterback, but he was
a kicker at that at that at that college, at
Southern Connecticut. YEA, so were you guys? Were you you
in parish or you yourself? Were you guys athletes coming up? Well?
I played basketball, Paras played football? Yeah, game, Oh no,
I was good. I was I used to see the
(16:58):
way way long shot before the three points was like famous.
I had a long shot and people knew that I
was gonna shoot far for me. So you were just
born into the wrong era. You wouldn't been painting threes nowadays.
I was running three because iin't a lot of y'all Yo, um,
hands down, though, Yo, you're robbed by swim man when
(17:18):
it comes to sports. And y'all speak not because y'are
on the phone. Y'all speak way truths man all the time.
And I know that Chris. Sometimes it is hard on
people because hey, it' Chris. Chris. Joe and Rob don't
care neither. Chris doesn't care about people, and we gotta
(17:39):
you know, we're gonna keep it one hundred all the time,
all the time. That's right, that's right. Now. Let me
quickly before we get all into the sports. Your last
album Vnia. Am I pronouncing it right? Vernia? It ain't
that your grandmother right called Bunnia Vernia. I'm sorry you
ask shot going there and I live it's a nice
(18:01):
album too, but you have shocking in there. Oh thank you? Yeah,
because you know I produced Shack's first album, the first album, Um,
with outstanding. Yeah, was platinum back then, so I was
already friends with him back then. Then I produced on
the second album, Though two, with the Rizza and Bicky
Smalls rapping that album. The second album though too. So
Shack was always a friend that always was rapping with
(18:23):
him back then, So I called him one day together
you want to rap? He said, sure, I do so
the record because I wasn't. Some of the Shock's success
was the production was awesome. But I remember him was
that before Foosh nickins On? When was that that was before?
Right after? Nick was the first one to do a
Shock record. I remember you heard that Shack of rapp
(18:44):
on beat then because a lot of producers like Premiere
third shack down. Really you see it? How to tell
people what you did? Well, let now let me ask
you this because you I know you kept up with
the battle Shock had with Damian Alert Dame. I have
the game you knew you do when you were coming
(19:06):
on the eye couple. We just gonna put you on
the hot seat. Who who won that damn? Or A
short story? So you know Shock DC a lit right,
So eleven o'clock t M y'all, My damn goes over
right in the shot. So Shock like you hit the battle.
I'm like, yeah, he says, you know what you think.
(19:27):
I'm like, yo, know, like, yo, you're you like that
all you said, but you wouldn't give him. You ain't
give him like a little bit, dude, I look fat
wait wait wait wait who Damon is nice as hell,
But I just told people like Joe he opened the door.
So at the end of the day, it is not
real real beef. You have to respect that Shock opened
(19:50):
the door for you. So that right, right, And I
thought in that battle, like you said, Damon, Damon is
a nice I mean, his flow and everything is great.
But yeah, Shan had some punchlines though the one punch
line I could have been just okay was the fact, like, yo,
I opened the door for you, so no matter what,
(20:10):
and then the day that whole's weight. Yeah yeah yeah.
Now you you are, like you said, a big time
NFL and NBA fan. Um Lamar Jackson. I know you're
high on him. Um you think he's changing the NFL.
I think that, um the comment that y'all made and
not to be on the side of what black and
(20:30):
white is, but I think that you see how many um,
African American quarterbacks we have now and you see that
the change of the landscape of looking like Lamar Jackson
the fallest even when Russell Russe, I mean, you gotta
go back to Vic, to Vic first, but he was
the first thing that we've seen, Like you're watching Lebron
James the freaking nature. Um you know, um. Vic was
(20:52):
was that too, But now we're seeing Lamar as a Vic.
But now it's it's a bunch of hymns. You know,
every Patrick Mahones, everybody coming so Jack anybody's coming at
that position has to run and also throw in the
pocket if possible. So you know, I just see it
being as it changed because of the quickness and when
(21:16):
where it's at now with us. Damn. How about your
your love for the Lakers And when you look at
the Lakers this year Lebron and a d and then
you look at the Clippers, uh with Kawhi and Paul George,
you still like the Lakers better than the Clippers when
we talk about winning a championship. Okay, Rob, this is
(21:38):
what I'm saying though too. As y'all watched the game,
No lineman, my me watching the game, watching Kawuhi, like
I knew he was dangerous, but not like that though
he has no fear of no Lebron or a d
And it just depends on no what I would keep
(21:58):
one hundred. I don't have a bench to go along
with the bench of Clippers. It's gonna be a problem
for the Lakers to win with just those two people.
I agree with that because because the Lakers benches, I
mean the Clippers bench, they're ten deep and and the
Lakers bench is gonna have to be able to match
up with him. And listen, I'm a big fan of Rondo,
like he's like when I was watching Boston as a
(22:21):
point guard or what he was able to do. And
people keep saying he's not a scorer. No, he scored
with Boston and this coach, this ship gave him the
rains to shoot threes this year too. So at the
end of the day, don't sleep on Rondo as far
as him being the point guard that without Kuzma, he
can he can make a run in the playoffs with
(22:42):
Look what he did when New Orleans, when New Orleans
was there, when that's the best run, their best run, right,
he got hurt, right clip on that, and Danny Green
knowing that too. But Kuzma, if he stepped up, then
maybe you might be a problem. But until then the
Clippers are just stronger. They got they have of course
(23:03):
the six million a year and not a seven million
a year with Homeboy, so I think to me, it's
hard to beat them. Eric, we got about thirty seconds left.
It shouldn't take long to answer this. But the Knicks,
I'm sure you're a Knicks fan, man, you got to
go up. It's wrong with this team. Man, it's not gonna.
It's not gonna. They gotta get rid of They gotta
get rid of Homeboy. It's tough when he's don you know.
(23:28):
Once once he goes and we get somebody who knows,
like you know, knows how to go shot for people
the whole night and the okay, but not now? All
right with him and the great Eric sermon man, we
appreciate having you on brother listening. I got to come
there live because I can't get no part with a picture.
But how the picture are you ever? Now? When you
(23:53):
went there late? Let us know, because you know how
just go Rob, you know too, like that that Instagram
pictures problem? Hey, get that change that's what and come
out to LA and come hang out with us one
hour in the studio. Get the number two. We're gonna
stay in touch. He okay, all right, brothers, thanks for

all Right at the bottom of the hour. Our man
love having him more on the show. He's an NFL VET.
Also right here in Fox Sports Radio, you can hear
him Sundays with Dan Bayer from five to eight pm
Eastern time, none other than e from Salim, So we'll
bring him in. It's always fun with him, so stay
(25:19):
tuned for that in less than twenty eight minutes. But
we're gonna go back to the NFL for this segment.
This is a little shocking story. It is. I didn't
expect to see this because, let's face it, rob all
we hear about and understandably so, because it isn't a
great place. Is how the NFL is booming? Right? TV
(25:40):
ratings have picked up. You remember they had the little
law a couple of years ago. Things weren't going well,
people weren't watching, and now the numbers are back to
where they were even better. And there's always a lot
of talk like this year. You hear the NBA ratings
are down right, there's always talk about baseball's not what
it used to be in terms of popularity. You never
hear that about football. But this story that came out
(26:02):
today says that the NFL attendance this year hit a
fifteen year low. So we're talking about going back to
two thousand and four. That's a long time. That is
a long I mean as big as football was then,
it wasn't quite where it is now, right, No, I
mean football scene is bigger than ever. It's bigger now
(26:25):
the last ten years to me. And because the NFL
has turned into a football show. We talk about it
all the time, Chris, when we talk about economics and
pro sports. The reason NBA all these leagues are doing
so well financially is the best thing on television on
live sporting events. Right, People don't watch right everything else
(26:48):
to show up. I don't have to be in front
of my TV at eight o'clock on Thursday night or
whatever whatever seat order. Let me watch all the episodes
at one time, and I can binge watch the whole season.
Are you gonna pay anything right now? No? I am
what are you watching? The Guyfather? Harlan? Okay? How's that?
It's excellent? Really? Yeah? So are you being watching watching
(27:08):
it every week when they when they know? No, I'm been.
I mean I haven't. I'm not binge watching one or
two days. But I am. Like, two nights ago, I
watched two episodes. You'll watch more. Last night I watched one.
So I'll be done in a week. Right, So that
but it's real good? But yeah, so so sports is
the only appointment television, and advertisers flocked to it because
(27:29):
they know people on fast forwarding through the commercials, they're
watching the game. They got eyeballs, they pay top dollar,
you know it. But people now in the NFL, like
I always said to the NFL is a TV show.
Now now people are staying away. Well let me let
me give them some of the numbers please. Obviously, more
people are watching the NFL, as you said on TV,
(27:51):
but fewer people are watching it in person. And this
is according to the Sports Business Daily, the NFL average
sixty six thousand, six hundred forty eight fans at home
games this year. That's the lowest since two thousand and four.
Cowboys led the league for the eleventh straight season, and
Jerry World has one almost one hundred ninety thousand, nine
(28:14):
hundred twenty nine, so basically ninety one thousand. But overall
the leagues, obviously their average has dropped and it's the
lowest has been in fifteen. And they say fifteen teams
saw a decline. Here's the thing, Rob, now you know this,
I mean this goes back what ten fifty maybe fifteen
(28:35):
years ago. I remember hearing stuff like in twenty five years.
In thirty years, they're gonna be playing NFL games in
front of studio audiences. Yeah, like like wrestling, it would
turn into rustling. Like you said, a TV show, a
TV show studio audience, and you might not have to
worry about fifty thousand people showing up and you have
(28:56):
when you open it night be what a thousand some
whatever if that and they play the game, but everybody's
mainly watching on television, and they pump the noise and
all that, you know, like you're doing show. One of
the big things though, is that I think it's hurting attended.
And first of all, let me say this, let's let's
back up. I would hate that. I don't want to
(29:17):
see the NFL at the show. I like the live games.
Now will they have to make some of the stadium smaller,
I don't know, but I like the live games. But
here's the deal. I love going to an NFL game
and sitting in the stands. There's nothing like it. We've
(29:38):
done it before. But here's the deal. The one of
the big things that's killing what I wouldn't say killing football,
but I think one of the reasons why you have
more fans opting to watch it on television rather than
going to the stadium. It's fantasy football. And let's face it,
fantasy football is large responsible for the growth in popularity
(30:03):
of the NFL, right because there's always it was before
that gambling became legal nationally. People. You can look at
it either way. People are trying to say it's not gambling.
It is. There's a money pot at the end, Chris,
it's some financial game. But even even if there weren't,
but that's gotten even if you're in the league where
there's but there usually is a pot or something. And
(30:23):
I'm not saying that it makes it more interesting. So
people are following their players whatnot. And if you are
really in fantasy football, do you want to be at
a game in the stadium basically checking your phone or
do you want to be at home where nowadays like
direct TV, you can watch eight games at once. You
(30:46):
can watch four games at once. You may have two
televisions and you're just watching two at one thing, but
you can keep track of all of the games. And
that's what you're doing. You're watching one in one game.
I'll watch I don't do the eight, but I'll do
the four at once and like on one TV, I
have four games. Then maybe on my computer, I have
(31:09):
one game that I'm watching, and I'm paying attention to
all of them. But you know, sometimes I like watching
one game. If there's a couple of the game, a
few of the games will be the big games, and
I'll pay attention to those. But yeah, I watched more
than one game at once a lot of times. I'm
gonna admit I'm old school. So there are a lot
(31:30):
of games on Chris. I usually try to pick out
the games that I really want to watch. I'm not
I've never watched red zone never never. Its not bad.
I don't watch it religious some people. I want to
watch a full football game. I want to see defense
and offense. I'm not just trying to see when somebody's
in the red zone to score. That's not football. Their
(31:52):
plays made all kinds of other things. So I just
like to watch those games and then what I do
to like. So if I watch on a Sunday, uh,
three games, right, because I might watch an early game,
watch the afternoon game, and then a Sunday night okay
or something like that. So I watched three full games
and then the other ones I watch on ESPN dot
(32:12):
com or one of these other NFL dot com and
they'll have synopsis of the game video, not just the
scoring plays, but big plays in the game. And then
you watch another ten or twelve minutes of the game,
and I get a real feel for it, Chris. I
could read the story, I could go through the box scores,
and I really feel like, Okay, I know what happened
in that game, and I saw it. And that's usually
(32:34):
how I do it to do my research. I don't just,
you know, flip around eight games and I feel like
I watch one full one at all. I watched the
bits and pieces of a lot, but I never watched
the full game. I do like to watch games in
their entirety, so I get where you're coming from. I
kind of do both, you know, but back and forth.
But but I think that's a big reason why fans
(32:56):
are staying away, because as great as the experiences at
the all Park or at the field, the stadium, if
you need to pay attention, and a lot of people
are in seven leagues, eight leagues, twelve leagues, I don't
know how in the world they do it. How many
leagues are you on? None? None? I haven't played fantasy
football since nineteen ninety four. Are you ready? And I
played one year that was it, never played never. I
(33:18):
get it. And people have asked me to be in
their leagues forever. And it's not no disrespect to it
or I don't respect it. It's not that was so busy, Chris,
I just I'm serious. And then they're like, well, it
would be good for you because you know, then you
can keep up with the players. Are like, that's my job.
I do keep up with what's going on. I don't
need fantasy football for me to enjoy football or for
(33:39):
me to follow football. I already follow football. Well, it
also made the one year I did it, And I
granted when I was doing it, you kept stats by hand.
Where were you? I was a high school reporter. Okay,
that makes sense. I was working for the Cleveland Playing Dealer,
but working in the Akron, Ohio area. Lebron James was
a little tight back then. But anyway, Um, it made
(34:02):
for strange rooting interests, you know. I remember it was like,
you're not pulling for a particular team, You're just caring
about what your player does. You know what I mean?
You didn't care somebody, Yeah, right right, So it was odd.
I didn't really like that because I like to watch
a game and you like it for the team right
(34:23):
on the team you want to see when it's like, oh, okay,
my team lost, but I'm okay, I just got I'm
like what right, yeah, yeah, yeah, my running back and
my I got this team's defense, and I would be
like really yeah. But my thing is this rob. I
wonder if this trend is going to continue because again,
the NFL is more popular than everything, dominates all the
(34:44):
TV and radio, shot talk show. And here's the other part.
Two tickets are expensive. It's not like the one thing
about and you know, the NBA tickets are expensive because
it's not that many games. NFL is not that many
Baseball you can get a twenty dollars ticket and you
could take your family. At the end of the world,
you don't have to buy one hundred dollars ticket, even
though they are available. But I think NFL tickets are
(35:06):
expensive to Chris, and I think that stops people going
I'm gonna pay one hundred and seventy five dollars for
a ticket twenty dollars to park. A friend who said
he went to a game I won't name him, and
unless he wants me to name me, give him a
little love. Who's that? Hub? Is that Gavin? I'm sorry, Gavin?
(35:27):
Tell us about your recent experience. What'd you Gavin? What
did you do a preseason game? Preseason? Now you need
to be flogged for going to a preseen and you
paid money? Wait till it is. Wait, we didn't even
get in the stadium when we spent one hundred dollars
on parking, one hundred dollars to parts preseason games and
my girlfriend had a broken foot so we couldn't walk
(35:47):
a mile or whatever it was to go to the
free parking lot that was miles away. So yeah, one
hundred dollars for the parking at Chargers Park, stub Hub
dignity whatever. You know what I would have done. I
would have drove my girlfriend as close to the stadium
as possible, dropped her off, drove to the free lot.
Have our take it. We can take an Uber back
(36:08):
to the car after the game, or you wait here, baby,
I'll go get the car. You know what, I almost
had to sign up for Uber to pay for that,
for one hundred dollars to pay for but think about
that and if I can sit at home watch the
game on my fifty inch Teleno to the bathroom whenever
you want. Hey, I mean seriously, like I get it,
(36:30):
and again, I don't want to see it. I want
to see fifty sixty seventy eighty thousand people in the
stands packed. But I don't know. Is this the way
of the future. Is this a sign of the future.

we'll have our man, Lamar Mitchell. All of you betters
out there, you're gonna be betting on Wildcard weekend. The
(37:32):
MGM Grand Race and Sports Book director Lamar Mitchell will
join us in about twenty eight minutes, so you definitely
want to stay locked in for that, But we're gonna
stick with the NFL. Obviously, big Wildcar weekend coming up,
but the big news all week has been the soap
opera in Dallas, And isn't that amazing? They're done, you're
(37:55):
not playing, and you still are dominating the airway. Well,
because nobody else saw is intending to fire a coach
put holes on to him five six a week after
the season's over. It just doesn't make any sense. And
then to try to act like you're trying to soften
the blow, Chris, if they don't renew your contract, guess
(38:17):
what you're done. You've been fired. You can call it
whatever you want, You've been fired. I'm with you, right like, Look,
there's no soft what all the reports are that they're
doing that how to respect and this is about the love,
and you know what, I'm gonna be honest, I get that,
and I think that's nice. However, it's gotten to a
(38:41):
point where now I think it's gone from a show
of respect to the appearance they don't mean it this way,
but now it's I think it's starting to embarrass Jason Garrett,
not him, he's him. I don't say he's embarrassed, but
from us looking at him now, it's making him look
like a pitiful figure. Right. He's made of china. He's
(39:06):
gonna fall apart if he gets fired. Now, here's the
worst thing. Your hair is gonna turn gray. Here's the
worst thing. All these leaks are coming out that he's
done that. All this doesn't mean he's staying. Don't don't,
don't get it twisted. He's still going to be fired.
They're still gonna get a new coach. If the leaks
(39:26):
weren't there, then I'd be like, Okay, this is all right.
But he you're keeping him on, you're letting him dangle
and twisting the wind. And we all know because of
the leaks that he's done. Now it's looking embarrassing. It's
like the girl who's dating the guy and she's still
(39:48):
they're still technically going together, but everybody knows she's seeing
other guys. Here's the other part two that is in
the realm about this guy's future. Christ if he doesn't
have a in their front office or job, the longer
they hold on to him too and not let them
know he's missing out on the job openings if he
(40:08):
did want to go interviews, you know what I'm saying.
But but, but there's other jobs out there. The giants
might not wait another week. Somebody might come along. Giant's
job is gone. Brown's job is gone. I'm just saying.
And then they released him on January fourteenth, and they've
already interviewed all these people, and they're like, well, you know,
you kind of late to the party, and we already
(40:28):
got a guy. I agree. So that's how you helping him.
You're not. He's a big boy. He's a big boy.
I mean, honestly, it's gotten to a point where now, Rob,
unless you keep him in some capacity and organization, some
major capacity, then you've done him a disservice. At this point,
(40:51):
I'm one with you. Make everybody look silly, make all
the people, the reporters, everybody that's said he's done. You
gotta now make him look silly and keep him or
something because he's looking bad. I just I don't even
think Jerry can do that, just with the way no
and with the way that the year went by. Remember
he hasn't made the playoffs. Seven out of ten years Chris.
(41:12):
People were talking about when they signed Ezekiel Elliott before
the season started, right, Oh, the Cowboys a super Bowl? Right,
sadly I tell you from New Orleans to Dallas because
you thought, okay, right, they got that guy. You know,
they got everything together and you were looking good in
the beginning there with three and old four and one, right,
should have won the division. Everything kind of fell apart
(41:34):
when they got into a toughest part of the schedule.
And now you're looking, go, what are you doing? Like
you should be turning the page and moving forward, going
on to the next thing. Yeah, it just it again.
It's starting to make Garrett look pitiful. It really is.
And I get I, like I said it you you
(41:57):
kind of went off for me. But I appreciate it
the human element initially, I think I said on Tuesday,
like okay, but no, still though, right, that's the problem,
And where are these leaks coming If they're coming from
within the organization, they're coming from people that talked to
Jerry Jones. I doubt they're coming from him, I doubt,
(42:19):
But maybe they are even coming out from Jerry No, Jerry, Yeah, none,
it could be, but that would be even worse if
he's if he's whispering the reporters on the side, off
the record, Hey, he's gone trying to respect. No, you're
not showing If you want to show him respect, make
sure nobody says a word about Jason Garrett. The best
(42:41):
way to do that is you aren't telling people right,
and to just make this thing as swift and easy
and smooth. And this is not the way to do
it by hanging on to a guy who cares krypt Chris,
if his contract ends on January fourteenth, really, what are
you accomplished by doing that and then saying, well, you know,
(43:02):
as contract, everybody knows he was fired. Yes, letting it expire.
It's the same same exact deal. Come on, yeah, you know.
It's just it's just baffling. And on the one hand,
you can appreciate Jerry's you know, the loyalty to love whatever,
but this is a business. He didn't get wealthy by
(43:25):
playing it soft, No, not at all. He moved with
an iron fish. You gotta make freaking Tim Landry came in, man,
you want to you remember that, Chris the the news
It was shocked, disrespectful, It was like disrespectful, right, right,
and it was like, dude, pack your stuff and get
out Tom Landry for those young bucks, he was a legend,
(43:47):
is a legend. And two Super Bowls and that was it.
And they threw Tom Landry out and then everybody like
was wishing ill will for Jerry and Jimmy Johnson, you
know what I mean, the whole thing when it got started,
and then all of a sudden they started winning. They
became a dynasty. They won three out of four and
nobody mentioned Tom Landrews that again, right right, And you
(44:08):
hear a lot of people now saying robbed it. Look
Troy Aigman said it now. I don't know if it's
today or yesterday. But Jerry won. There's a formula Jerry
has to win, and it's to go and get a
great college coach and let him coach. But but but
you said the big problem. You're right because he did
(44:30):
that with Jimmy Johnson, and Jimmy won two of those
three titles. Barry Switcher took his team right with Jimmy's
people right and won the third one. But but Chris,
I'm just not convinced that this late in the game,
Jerry Jones, who's already in the Hall of Fame, already
(44:52):
has three championships. He could, he could point his finger
at other owners who haven't even sniffed it. But the
bottom line is he wants to win his way. He
wants to be able to say, I put it together.
I'm the GM. Everything comes through my desk and I
and I did this, I put it together. I did
it my way. Right, that's what he wants to cap
(45:12):
off his career, right because he got he got already.
He's like that, that doesn't give me a thrill. I
got three that way. I want it my way. But
here's what Jerry has to understand. I've been saying it
all week. You'll get credit, even if it's just you
hired the right people. Step Aside get credit. Right, Robert
(45:37):
Kraft gets credit, Peter Holt and San Antonio gets credit.
I thought Robert Kraft paid for that. You know what's
going to credit? Look at you. You're still dying to
see that tape, aren't you? What if the tape came out,
I will watch it. You will watch it. Yes. Thanks
for listening to the best of the Odd Couple podcast.
