s R. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Jonas?
You got something for me? I mean how long you
want it? You tell me? Twenty seconds? Thirty seconds? Oh
(01:00):
oh yes, yes, sir. On a Friday. It is The
Odd Couple on Fox Sports Radio. Is that the longest
I've ever lasted? Rob? Yeah? So your girlfriend's on Love one.
(01:24):
I mean, now, sorry about that. Your fiance Fance, she's
just saying, wait a minute. You can go longer than that.
But yes, it is The Odd Couple. Rob Parker along
with Jonas Knox in for Chris Boussarry. Now we need
Jonas because Chris is not here. But we'll be ready
(01:45):
to have three hours on this funky flash back Friday.
We'll have a lot of fun. We're still here for
you every day. We know Jonas is not easy for people.
A lot of the things that they're accustomed to a
life or have been taken away and we don't have
right now during this pandemic. So you turn on the radio,
(02:08):
hang out with us for a couple hours, a couple
three hours, and we'll have some fun, talk some sports,
and enjoy life. Yeah. So that's where we are. And
I know just from doing and obviously you guys do
the show throughout the course of the week, and then
I do shows on the weekend as well too, and
I've gotten more nice complimentary messages, not just about myself.
(02:29):
It's not like the shows have gotten any better or
I don't think or anything like that. It's just about
the network and people just appreciating having somewhere to go
that isn't the constant doom and gloom that you find elsewhere,
because people just wanted to escape for a little while.
And if we can do that, it's an honor to
be able to do it, no doubt about it. And
we are the odd couple coming to you live from
(02:49):
the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes. Thank you,
Bill could save you fifteen percent or more on co insurance.
Visit Geico dot com for a free rate quote. Great
show Jonas. Of course a little later on in this
about thirty minutes, Ron Ge and Celebrity Corner. He's a
(03:09):
comedian and Emmy Award winner. We'll talk with him in
the second hour. Donovan McNabb is back. He was fiery
the last time we had him on Talk Some NFL
with the former six time Pro Bowl quarterback and others.
So we have a big show for you the next
(03:30):
three hours. Let's welcome in the Odd Couple crew because
we wouldn't be able to do this fine radio program
with it without him. Rob g is our producer. Rob
GE's in the house, and of course Alex the engineer.
Alex is in the house on his funky flashback Friday.
You know he dig deep in his crates, right Alex
(03:50):
with great music coming back from the breaks. I can't
see the boards, so hopefully you don't need anything right now. No,
no, no no, everything's good. And Steve just say girl is
that the anchor desk. He'll keep up updated throughout the program.
And so there you go. So we're in full effect.
Jonas in for Chris and Jonas fils in a lot.
(04:11):
It's like we don't miss a beat. Um and Jonas.
Let's have some fun. So now there's a big story
out there that Ta helped me with his last name
taga va Looa. Is that it Okay, whom everybody knows
has had the great college career, yeah, as a quarterback,
(04:33):
but he's had injuries and that's something that has thrown
a monkey wrench into why he won't be the overall
number one pick in the NFL draft. Of course, Burrow
had an unbelievable UH season as a quarterback as well,
like the greatest ever, so it looks like he's going
(04:55):
number one right to the Bengals. But in the tourist case,
there's rumors out there and stuff floating around Jonas that
at least three teams now have taken him off the
draft board. They're that concerned with his injuries, and they're
saying it's not just a hip. There's a few other
(05:16):
things that are that's wrong with him. And we've seen
both sides of the coin where teams have gone out
and drafted people who were injured despite the injury report,
thinking that they might get lucky and the guy will
turn out all right, and those guys haven't worked out.
And then there's other guys who have passed on people
who have questionable health concerns. We saw that the biggest
(05:37):
one probably was in Miami when Nick Saban was the
coach there for the Dolphins and they didn't take Drew
Brees because of the injury report about Drew Brees. Instead,
they took Dante Calpepper exactly, and you know how that
turned out. So I'm gonna start with you, though, Jonas,
where are you on teams? Like, if this is true, say,
(06:01):
we're just not going to mess with toa he's off
our draft board. We're not going to even take a risk,
even though the reward could be huge if he was
to be able to keep the self healthy. I think
it's a load of crap. I think the Dolphins are
behind a lot of these rumors and reports that are
out there because the Dolphins realize they don't want anybody
to jump them. So the more that they can push
(06:22):
that they really like Justin Herbert more than they like
Tah and all these other things to go along with it,
then they don't have to worry about somebody leap frogging
them to take ta as opposed to Justin Herbert sitting
there at five. I think it's the Dolphins that are
sort of pushing this narrative. The other teams that are saying, well,
we've taken off our draft board. Okay, cool, will you
(06:42):
probably pick in the twenties anyways, He's not going to
be there anyway. Matt Miller of Bleacher Report had a
report out earlier that said twas in risk of really
dropping something like Aaron Rodgers fell in the draft and
some other quarterbacks. And I don't buy it at all.
I think the problem is people are failing to look
at the big picture. Listen, Rob, you worked in Cincinnati
(07:04):
for a long time, all right, You know the Cincinnati
market as well as anybody. Let me ask you this,
If Tua was one hundred percent and the Bengals are
still picking number one overall, are the Bengals doing anything
different than taking the hometown guy in Justin Burrow knowing
what are to do to ticket sales, Like Justin Burrow
would be the number one pick regardless. So all this
(07:26):
comes down to is where does two of fall? And
to me, he's in the same spot he would be
if he were one hundred percent, So they can say
that we're taking him off there our draft board. I
think a lot of this is crap. I don't think
there's any way that he lasts passed number five with
the Dolphins unless somebody jumps up and grabs him earlier.
I think it's BS. So you think it there's nothing, Well,
(07:47):
maybe the Dolphins on one of those teams. I'm going
to counter with this if if I'm the Bengals, I
can't afford to take a chance. I got a franchise
that hadn't made them, hadn't won a playoff game in
a long time. I can't roll the dice and take
somebody who's got some injuries. Because if you don't take
Burrow and you take Tua and Tua winds up injury
(08:13):
plagued or hurt, or just never lives up to its potential,
you'll never live it down. Would you agree with that? Yeah, yeah,
that's fair. I just think you can't certain franchises can
now this talk that the Patriots are trying to talk
the Lions into a trade. If you've seen that, yeah,
I've say and look, I know the parallels because you've
(08:33):
got Bob Quinn, a former Patriot, Matt Patricia, a former Patriot.
I get the parallels, but that would take a significant
amount for the Patriots to move up. But it would
also be the Patriots throwing up their hands saying, we
goofed it with Tom Brady and we're desperate for a
quarterback now. I just don't. And the other thing too
with the Lions. If I'm a Lions fan, I would
(08:55):
be bummed out. I mean seriously, First of all, how
high where's the page picks gonna be? You don't know, right? Yeah,
And and that's another part of it. But if you
have a chance, you've had Matthew Stafford for a decade,
no playoff wins. He was the first overall pick too. Really,
And can you imagine if the lines had a chance
(09:16):
to get Tah and he wounds up going somewhere else
and being a started league, you would kill yourself. Yeah,
but I would rather. I'd rather have Matt Stafford right
now than than Tah. I see, but I'm a bigger
fan of Matt Stafford than you are. Like, here's my thing.
But I would put I would say to you, Matt
Stafford and Tuah has the same amount of playoff wins,
(09:38):
and Tah has a play one game in the NFL,
how's that? Well, let me ask you this who's got
who do you and you have the same amount of
playoff wins? Is Matt Stafford too correct? No, that's true, Yeah,
that is it, so do I That's why I'm a
fan of Matt Stafford. I can relate to him. I mean,
that's that. That's really the whole goal here. I just
to me, Cincinnati was gonna take Joe Burrow number one,
(09:59):
no matter what if two is healthy, no matter what,
because you don't an Ohio guy, and it's all about
the hometown log. And I agree with that. I do
think that that would happen even though two. A lot
of people like his ability. Some guys think he's the
best quarterback in the draft. I've heard everything, all the
praises I see, but I just I feel like teams saying,
(10:21):
so what if there are three teams that are saying, yeah,
we've taken them completely off there, off our board. Those
teams could be Baltimore, they could be Tampa Bay, and
they could be New Orleans who already have quarterbacks, who
already have quarterbacks. The Chiefs could say, yeah, we've taken
two off our board, and somebody could say, oh, it's
because of health concerns. No it's because they already have
(10:42):
a quarterback. So the number of teams that have removed
him from their board doesn't matter to me. It's which
teams those are. And I find it hard to believe
that the Dolphins are one of those teams. I find
it hard to believe the Chargers are one of those teams.
And that's why I push back on this, this idea
that he's gonna fall, and justin Herbert's making strides, I
(11:03):
think this is all smoke screens. I think two is
going to the top five no matter what. Yeah, it
could be. Things have floated all the time around a
draft to see what people are gonna do, see if
if you could scare somebody off of a player or whatnot.
I don't know. It's interesting. So you say he's he's
number five at Miami. Is that what you think? At
(11:24):
at worst he goes fifth overall? I don't. I think
at worst he goes fifth overall. Also, here's the other thing.
Let's say there is some concern about his health. All right,
Let's say there's some concern, okay, that you know he
suffered the injuries and maybe he needs needs more time
to get ready to play quarterback. In the NFL. The
Dolphins are the perfect situation for him. They've got Ryan Fitzpatrick,
(11:48):
a guy who doesn't carry the ego and can put
up good games at least, you know, a few good
games a season, and play quality quarterbacks at time. He's
one of the street gear quarterbacks in recent NFL his
Miami's the perfect place for him. If you're all about
rebuilding and you're all about building the culture and moving
towards the future, Miami makes all the sense in the world.
(12:09):
You've got a veteran quarterback who's okay if you pull
him from a game, or okay starting the next sixteen
games of the regular season and then moving on to
another team afterwards. I think Miami makes all the sentence
in the world. I don't think there's any way too
it gets past five. How about Sam Bradford was a
guy who was injured. He still want number one right,
(12:30):
and he couldn't stay healthy. Pick. I would say that's
a bad pick. But I would also say that Sam
Bradford his issues were with his shoulders, and that was
sort of a chronic issue, which is why I think
that he sat out his final year. And then you
go back and you start looking and then he suffered
all the knee injuries. I get it. The injury concerns
(12:51):
are one hundred percent legitimate with two a tuckboy la,
but man, there should be injury risks with everybody going in.
Like Augie three, he's another guy who's coming in. There
were injury risk about him, and what happened. He wound up.
He had a great rookie year, you remember, but he
couldn't stay healthy. I agree, and I think that if if,
(13:12):
if there's that much, if you really look, I don't know.
Here's the other thing I would ask you, Like, we
can't even go to the grocery store. Like I went
to the grocery store earlier. I had a mask on,
and people still the place. Well, no, but people still look.
People still looked at me like I had like I
was carrying around explosives because nobody wants to get near anybody.
(13:33):
Like all of a sudden, teams now know they don't
want two on their draft board. How are you getting
his medicals? Like? How's this stuff happening? How are you
able to see? How healthy is? How this is? This
is why some gms don't want the draft to happen, right,
now you've heard that leaky that have had to thyme
me them, threatening them with fines for speaking out against them.
(13:54):
But we need it. This will be interested, all right?
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Foxes. I'll telephone number
all you expecting tour to fall out of the top
ten and next week's NFL Draft, We'll continue the conversation
with you next. It's The Odd Couple with Rob Parker
and Jonas Knox in for Chris Boussard right here on

Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. It is
the Odd Couple of Fox Sports Radio, Rob Parker along
(14:35):
with Jonas Knox in for Chris Boussard. We don't need
to bring Jonas in. We do need Jonas. I'll telephone
number eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven nine nine six sixty three sixty nine. It is
a funky Flashback Friday, and we're coming to you live
from the Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. It's easy to
(14:56):
save fifteen percent of more in cor insurance with Geico.
Go to geicol dot com or call eight hundred nine
four seven Auto. The only hard part is figuring out
which way is easier. So, Jonas we just asked, do
we think UH two of will drop from the top
(15:19):
ten because some teams are saying the injuries are a factory.
So let's check in and see what some of our
listeners are thinking on this. You're saying, no, he's going
to stay in the top five. Is agree? I'm gonna
say I think he'll be in the top ten. H
I don't think he'll drop more than that, but some
(15:41):
people think he might. Let's starry with Michael and Alabama.
You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What
you got Michael? Hey, guys, man, I appreciate you taking
my call. Um, yes, sir, I think he'll go inside
the top ten. I think a lot of the reasons
why you're hearing this is teams maybe trying to put
some fair so they may fall to them. The third
(16:02):
in that eleven to twenty rains. Um, I think he's
gonna go in the top ten. I think this and
here's not here's not reasoning. Um. You see David's work out.
What what happened there? You've missed on the first round pick. Okay, No,
that's that to say, to say that that's no big deal. Nah,
(16:24):
that will cripple your franchise. You can't you can't be No,
it happens all the time. This is not the NA
just somebody in that country, like Gibert the rains for
one hundred million that that's hanging around your next for
you just know the d money. But you're trying to lose.
It's not the end of the world. Things I want you,
I want. I disagree. I don't. I don't think you
(16:45):
want to waste first over first round picks and top
picks Jonas. I don't know if that was the case.
I know they get a lot wrong and it's not
an exact science. It's not easy. But I don't think
you're just really nearly taking people on a whim in
the first Yeah. No, it's Look, you don't want to miss.
If you miss on the quarterback, you're screwed. It's not
as bad as it was when you when you miss
(17:07):
on JaMarcus Russell. That crippled the Raiders franchise for a decade.
But that was because the way the salary cap structure was,
rookie quarterbacks when they came in were getting like fifty
million dollars guaranteed. Sam Bradford, you mentioned him a few
minutes ago. That was another guy. Um Matt Stafford was
one of the other guys that got one of those
fifty million dollars guarantees as a rookie quarterback. So if
(17:29):
you miss it won't cripple your franchise as bad as before.
But what ends up happening is that you know, you
start to overcompensate for not having a quality quarterback near
the top of the draft. Allah the Bears, Allah the Rams,
some people feel with Jared Goff and now you're going
all in. And if you miss on that and you
miss read how good your quarterback is based on your
(17:52):
draft projections and falling in love with your draft pick,
then you got problems because now where the Rams? The
ram look like they might be the worst team of
that division. Where are the Bears right now? The Bears
look like they might possibly be the worst team in
the NFC North. Are the Lions still in the NFL?
(18:12):
I had no idea they were. I thought they were
moved to the XFL that they swapped them for the
Houston Renegade XFL. You mean just because they have a
one playoff win since nineteen fifty seven, You think there's
a problem. All right? Max and Georgia. You're in the
odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Max? What's up? Fellows?
That be Friday? Yes, I'm safe, You're good. I'm good man.
(18:36):
I hope, I hope everybody there's been being safe. Um,
I'm holding it down in Georgia, so it's all right
where I'm I'm on the coast, all right, We'll be careful,
stay safe. So if I was a GM, I'm not
taking to it in the first round, And I don't
blame you if you do. But just the injuries and
and the fact that you can't stay healthy against pretty
(18:57):
much the closest talent to the NFL, just the SEC
weekend and week out, I just I don't feel confident
to taking you in the first round, spending top dollar
on you. I like love, I'm not a Georgia fan.
I even like Jake from a little bit better. I
think Jalen Hurts could be a better quarterback. Nick Saban
doesn't have very many notable quarterbacks in the NFL that
I know of anyways as well. Yeah, all right, that's
(19:20):
a good point. So maybe it's the it's not a
quarterback factory, Jake, Jake from over toah, what what what
are we talking about here? No, that's why Max isn't
a GM. And yet like like, let's look, and I understand,
I know the concerns with the injuries. I get all that,
(19:44):
but this comes down to do you feel like your
team is best suited for a guy like that? And
that's why I think Miami makes all the sense in
the world. But just the knownything I say to you
is due Would you agree with me that some franchise
can roll the dice in some can't. Oh yeah, totally.
That's why. Yeah, that's why I brought up the fact
(20:07):
that even if to this is why this whole he's
going to drop out of the top ten and drop
down in the first round. That's why I call bs
because his draft status and where he's going to be
selected hasn't changed if he was one hundred percent healthier.
The fact that he's got the injury concerns based on
to your point, the Bengals are picking number one overall.
(20:29):
If the Bengals passed on hometown guy Burrow and took
another player and Burrow ended up being a stud somewhere else,
Rob you know, Cincinnati, they would crush that organization and
everybody that was involved in the decision would be out.
That's why, no matter what, Burrow was going number one
to the Bengals overall. And you talk to enough people
(20:50):
that cover the NFL Draft that have seen all of
these players play, and they've told you, look, there's a
significant drop off between the first two quarterbacks and the
draft Row into UH and the next tier, which would
be Justin Herbert, Jordan Love and whoever else you want
to slot in there, Jalen Hurts, Jacob Beeson, whoever. I
just that's why this idea that he's going to fall
(21:10):
down the draft board, I think it's teams throwing smoke
out there hoping that he lands in their lap. Hey,
Trevor and Sacramento, you're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio. What's up, Trevor, Hey, what's going on? Guys?
Thanks for taking the call. So yeah, no, I'm I'm
gonna Jonas on this. I don't think he's gonna fall
past five for damn sure, not past the Chargers. I mean,
both those teams need qbs. And I mean, just like
(21:33):
he was saying, before any medical issues were going on,
he was going to be the number one overall picks potentially,
so why not. But my question for you guys, though,
it's what about him getting a thirteen on the Wonderlick test.
I mean, that's terrible. I just I don't know how
much to read into the Wonderlike test. To be honest
with you, I don't know how much that translates to
(21:54):
what you are as an NFL quarterback. I mean I've
heard I've heard reports that some quarterbacks back in the
day didn't even take it seriously and then it just
poved around, yeah, and then ended up retaking it because
it was like, Okay, well, like I guess this is
a big deal. I mean, look, it's not you. You'd love,
you know, for him to have a high Wonderlick scoring,
to be off the charts in every category. But I
(22:17):
don't care. If the guy you know can spell cat,
can he throw the ball down the field and make
good decisions on the football field. That's why I'm paying him.
I don't care at Yeah, absolutely all right, Market Sacramento,
let's squeeze him. Man, you're on the on couple of
Fox Sports Radio. That's pretty funny, Jones, I tell you
what about that test? Also, if that test was a playbook,
(22:37):
I bet you they can read it. Totally agree. So yeah,
real quick, Um, Miami is the key. First of all,
I agree with you two about the smoke thing. Anybody
believes anything with these guys saying now they're out of
their minds, they're about four or five days from the draft.
Why would they come out and tell you what they're
going to do with what they're not gonna do. You
don't believe any of that mess. You're right there. And
(22:58):
as far as Miami, I am used the key here
because if they don't take them for whatever reason, I
was looking at the top ten or a few teams
already have quarterbacks, and there's another thing that may happen.
There's a couple of big tackles that's in here, a
couple of wide receiver though it's about need, but there's
a name that might talk them in here that we're
leaving out of this, and it's where Cam Newton might go.
(23:20):
That's another thing you might want to watch, So I
just wanted to say that. No, that's a that's a
good point. Yeah. I mean, if if I were Cam Newton,
I'd wait till after the draft before I made any decision.
Well normally, that's what it is to see where people are,
where they still have needs after the draft, Right, they
still might not have drafted a quarterback and now they
need one. Yeah, and maybe the Chargers were thinking that,
(23:40):
and now they go, we didn't get who we wanted.
We don't like anybody else, so now we'll go get
Cam Newton and Rob to his point, when you talk
about these smoke screens, you've been a member of the media,
you can probably tell when somebody in the front office
is feeding you a load of garbage hoping they can
run to the papers for it, you know, because they
were because they want to throw something out there out
about it. Doesn't mean I won't print it. But all right,
(24:03):
he's a self proclaimed clean comic. I didn't even know
any of those existed, But our man Ron g joined
us next but first, Fox Sports Radio has the best

(24:25):
Odd Couple of Fox Sports Radio, Rob Parker Jonas Knox
in for Chris Brussold on this funky flashback Friday. We're
coming to you live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios.
It's easy to say fifteen percent of more in your
car insurance with Geico, so go to Geico dot com
or call eight hundred nine four seven Auto. The only
(24:46):
hard part is figuring out which way is easier. It's
that time time for Celebrity Corner. Oh my god, I
know for the Odd Couple, celebrity corners and our guests
today is Ron g Let's welcome in the comedian and
(25:10):
Emmy Award Winn, the star of HBO's Insecure. You can
get him on his Twitter at comedian Ron g ron Gee.
Welcome to the Odd Couple on Fox Sports Radio. How
are you doing? Hey? What's up? Robin Jonas? How y'all doing? Bro?
We're doing great? Great man enjoying his corner qualitdamn away
from outside man, I mean, how are you surviving? And uh,
(25:35):
you know, well, how are you occupying your time? Hollywood
shut down? Isn't it? Well? How are you guys? What
are you doing. Yeah, my life literally got flipped up
side down when I realized I couldn't go outside anymore.
I was like, Yo, this fucked this my whole job.
And so what the laugh Faery did? In the Hollywood
h they actually had a live streaming comedy show and
we did it. It was like me and three other
comedians for no crowd. And when I tell you, those
(25:56):
the most painful things. It was like getting ignored, but
like performing poor child. You didn't feel good, but I
had a good time. And now I gotta ask you
because you've been through a lot and performed at a
lot of places throughout the country, and in sports, I'll
talk about how there's certain environments that are just more
difficult than others. You know, if you go to play
at the Superdome or if you play in Seattle, there's
(26:19):
just certain places that have a home field advantage. What
are the toughest places, the toughest venues for you as
a performer? Where you go, I gotta be on it
because this crowd is ruthless. Uh. Performing for people who
don't necessarily have black friends is always problem. Okay, so
Rod Parker, so Jonas, that's always problem and I feel
(26:44):
like the largest venue sometimes it is control the crowd
because there's no you know, comedy about intimacy, and its
smaller room, the easier it is. But I've done the
Saple Center before, I've done a lot of live concerts.
I've done like award shows, like a woman for award shows.
But in general, long as people care to laugh, man,
I'm going to, like I figured out. But again, the
hardest part is performing with no crowd because again, like
people have been asking me, how you want to do
(27:06):
a quarantine comedy show, and I'm like, I don't want
to perform for couches in lamp in my house and
my wife might ignore me, so it might not feel good.
Now what this is, this idea of you doing committed
to doing clean humor? Have you ever done blue? I mean,
there's some great comedians with some great material, funny as hack,
but they're a little raunchyer dirty. What made you stick
(27:28):
to the clean stuff? I felt like when I was dirty,
I used to get boot all the time, so what Wow,
cursing I actually got funny and made it easier. So
I just kind of committed to that. Man. But also
being clean man really helped me out because in my
career I realized there's not many places I can't perform.
I've done corporate, I performed for kids. I've done over
one hundred colleges. I won college Chiming of the Year,
(27:50):
and I was a dad on a Nickelodeon show and
it was like, man, we didn't know what kind of
comic you work. And then we start a social media
we realized you were a clean comedian and they were like, yo,
like we picked the right guy. So you know, it's
actually opened up more doors by being cleaned. He is
Ron g. This is Celebrity Corner here on Fox Sports Radio.
Jonas stocks him for Chris Brucide alongside Rob Parker. Here
on Fox Sports Radio, comedian Emmy Award winner. Also, we
(28:13):
know you're a fan of the Atlanta Falcons. Absolutely, am, Yeah,
that's so job. I still kill hold. I hooked the
sea and now Ron, I see I didn't want to
go there, all right, but I was just saying, all
I'm gonna say, don't bring up the Super Bowl, man,
don't do that. Listen to no man. All all I'm
saying is we're in the middle of a pandemic. You
got enough to worry about. And I'm looking on the
(28:34):
television and at least three different times I've seen that
Super Bowl replayed. Now have you snow watch? Have you
stopped to watch any of it? Or did you just
stop it at the first half and then you continue?
I got a stick man. First half, I was talking
all the jump. There's no more joke to be talked
because I was talking to it. And then at second half,
I got real quiet. I got real humble, and you
(28:54):
know when you get humble, your boys get a little shy.
I was like, UM, I'm ready gonna go uh and
we'll go home, and um, you know, I got real
humble after that. But I hate watching it. Man, It's
painful because we were so close. That was the biggest
job in sports. Man. I cannot get over it. I
wanted to put my foot through the TV set. I'm
not a football coach, but my god, you want to
(29:16):
talk about a butcher job, A bad job? That was.
That was the worst. Man. They choke like a Chick
fil A biscuit with no water. I wanted to ChIL.
I wanted to follow restraining order on the Chiken because
we need some water. I don't know what happened. It
was painful. Now are you are you? Are you from Atlanta?
(29:36):
Originally I was born in South Carolina, but I started
doing comedy in Atlanta. That was like the birthplace for
my comedy and be figuring out what I wanted to
do with my life. So Atlanta's like my second home.
And so the first time you ever did comedy was
in Atlanta and they pulled you off the stage like
that didn't stop you? Okay, So look, Rob, I can
(29:58):
handle the boot. But the party got me was they
told me to kill myself. Now, the boom is fine,
but when they told me to kill myself, it turned
like I was like, do I run? Do I sit there?
And after they booed me, they turned the music on.
They turned on the James Ingram song. He's like, I
did my best, but my best wasn't good enough, and
so I sat down and then the host came up like, man,
(30:19):
y'all give it up, runjee boom, and they kept booing
and I was like yo, and then the host was like, man,
y'all hate this dude's name. It was a run boom
gee boot Runji, And they kept booing me and then
somebody threw a boot bernde. I never heard of a
boobrinde until I was sitting the back and all I
heard was boo and they threw a boot brinade. And
(30:40):
ever since then I felt in love and I stuck
to it and my life change. I knew it makes
no sense, but I realized this is what I want
to do. By the way, that's the same reaction Rob
Parker gets at Magic City when he goes there. Oh,
you want to talk about an institution in Atlanta, that's
my second home. You don't know how many girls, how
(31:01):
many girls I put through college there? You know what
I'm saying, yep. And sometimes you know, I though school
supplies up on the stage or bay or baby diapers. Well,
the last time I went, last time I went where
the girls had exim. I didn't know the tipper. I
don't know what was going to be like reading toes.
(31:21):
I didn't go to tip. Oh my good back from
the pole. I was like, I don't know what's happening.
That's that's pretty good. So I do want to say
this real quick that I am uh. I want to
do stand up. We were going to plan on doing
it in April of May, I want to get my
five minutes up there, and I got some good some
(31:41):
good material. You don't I do know that, Robert, that's Jonas.
Who's that? Rob? Hey? Rob? To listen. I hold at
the laugh Factory on Sundays in Hollywood, and I hold
the longest running, most diverse comedy show in the city
called Chocolate Sundays. I would love you come and we'll
give you two minutes. We'll do a first impression, flock.
(32:03):
You need two minutes and we'll let you be great.
Are you with that? That sounds great? That it's called
Chocolate Sundays. It's called Chocolate Sundays at the Weld Famous
Laughinger every Sunday. I'm the host, but as of right now,
outside of clothes. But when we open back up, Rob,
we got you, man, all right, So when you open
back up in twenty twenty one, I can make that happen.
(32:26):
All right. Well, ron G, we'll appreciate you. Thanks for
joining the our couple, my man, and continue success. I

James Brown. Yes, sir, come on, you can't get better
(33:10):
than that. This is a metallica. I don't I don't think. Sorry,
that's the godfather of soul right there. It is the
I Couple of Fox Sports Radio, Rob Parker, along with
Jonas Knox. He is in for Chris Boussard. Janis is
(33:30):
my training name? Oh? Come on? Is that your training name?
I never knew that? Who knew? And eight eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox is our telephone number? And
Jonas it's a weird story. Rob. You where this story
come from? Uh? There's a story about where's Rob G?
(33:54):
I want to manage? Yeah, this story was reported widely.
If you know, Darren roe Val reported the guys that's
Mortilid reported it apparently an adult website offered Joe Buck,
legendary Fox reporter or excuse me, broadcasting podcaster. Yeah, one
million dollars if he'd be willing to do play by
(34:14):
play commentary for one of their uh live cam streams.
Who Now, obviously Joe Buck turned it down, but it
got us thinking, if you were to have your own
adult website and you were doing a live stream, who
would you want to be on the call? Rob Parker,
It's a good question. All I would say with that contract,
he probably turned it down. I would turn it down.
(34:37):
Unlester was an included uh, baby oil, a pack of smokes,
all right? I did say, Kleenex, a little voice, right whatever.
How about legendary? I think he's the greatest basketball announcer
(34:57):
of all time. Mar Albert, Yes, and it counts no
man with his track record. I don't know if you
want Marv anywhere near that? What Marvel? I think Mark
would do a good job. I just you know, Marcus said,
my Marvel's seen plenty of action. Yes, you just do
(35:18):
a Google search, you'll find all you need to know.
I would go with Harry carry Harry Carrey. He wouldn't
be able to see what's going on those coke bottle glasses.
It could be, it might be, it's not. I mean
I would go Harry Carry that would be my guy.
Hard to argue with a legendary broadcast or Rob G,
(35:40):
what about you? I know you're gonna pick up. I
put a lot of thought into this one. I had
a spreadsheet going and everything, a little ven diagram and
spread Yeah. I settled on a guy who's no longer
with the rest in peace, Keith Jackson, because I would
love to have him. Yeah, right there at the end.
That'd be great. Yeah, Alex, who would you like to
do yours? You know, guys? I also was sitting here
(36:02):
in brainstorming with Rob G of all the great play
by play announcers, and of course Harlan passed through my mind.
But you know who I would like, Rob Parker, take
a guess if you think I could pick somebody who?
Who do you think I would pick? A broke it
would it be? Let me see what it if you
had an idea, who do you think would it be? Me?
Well that was a close second, Rob. I'll tell you
that the first one I would pick is actually Tony Romo,
(36:25):
because you know he likes to predict things, so I'd
like to see if he could predict what's coming next.
Oh my, what listen to you? You know what's online? One?
By the way, Rob, did you hear that they actually
found a country music artist to perform on this adult site?
(36:45):
Did you hear what it was? No? Who Garth Brooks? Oh? Mom,
I'm very nice? Is that yours? It's not it's not
you gotta that is uh credit where credit is due
to the great and powerful hold the legendary and very
much missed Frank Pollock Fox Sports Radio legend. The great
(37:05):
Frank Pollock had girth Brooks years ago. So that's that's putty.
That's pretty good stuff right there. I love that. But
at least you owned up to it. It wasn't yours,
like you know, sometimes stealing people's material and yeah, Rob Parker,
of you to do why oh man, hey Jones, why
don't you ask Rob? How many of the bits on
The Odd Couple have been used before? In Detroit? I'm
(37:28):
a woman, what only a couple? But this show is
uniquely ours. This is not the remake of The Odd Couple.
It was also uniquely the man's and uniquely batty Friday
was all right. It's the odd couple of Fox Sports
Radios thinking stay America. I'm a woman. Fox Sports Radio
(37:50):
has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch
all of our shows at Fox sports Radio dot com

and unfortunately the X is back ready to ruin their offseason.
Find out who that is coming up here in just
a couple of moments. That guy right over there is
Rob Parker. I am Jonas Knox in for Chris Brussary.

the hell's happening doing great Jonas, hanging in there, you
(38:57):
know the worst part, Like you could do all right
during week yeah, but as you come to the weekend
and you know, it's like Friday night and you're not
going anywhere or doing anything. I think Friday night's the
hardest for me. So what do you do? Uh? I mean,
I mean, I'm not trying to dive into your personal
life here. No, no, no, there's not much going on.
(39:18):
I don't know. It's is uh is um, I don't know. Uh,
some store, Like if I could go to some grocery store,
be my big my big dream for the Friday night,
you know, walk around, see some other people. Maybe there's
a hot chick with a mask and gloves on. That's good,
(39:39):
that's real good. Uh. Now, I know that you also
have a you know, you're you've been slinging merchandise left
and right on social media. Man, what a what an
unbelievable It shows so much love for our show, Jonas. Yeah,
I mean people have you and yourself helped the cause.
I finally got mine, I got my rab Parker beanie
(40:00):
and the odd Couple sweater. It finally arrived today. I mean,
I ordered it in November, but it finds that's awesome.
Are you kidding? It came right away? No, no, no,
uh no delay two day delivery right, very very nice.
You were surprised at how quickly it came. It was good. No,
it's good. I'm looking forward to it and I'm gonna
wear that Rob Parker no way, no how. Beanie coming
(40:23):
up in the next hour. And you know what's crazy, Jonas,
we are almost sold out of everything. If you go
to the website, get rob dot com, it is almost
everything is sold out. We literally have like about five
or six odd couple sweatshirts left and about eight or
nine um, no way, no how sweatshirts. So if you
still want to get one, and mostly bigger sides is
(40:44):
two x and three x the big guys, your chance
to snap up some stuff. Yeah. So, uh so we've
got that sort of you know, giving people the opportunity
to walk around in odd couple gear. Um. And it's
like you probably think to yourselves, man, Rob Parker is
just out there just doing good things for a lot
of people. And then there's one group of people, you know,
(41:05):
this group of people who who got a lot of
Rob Parker It's a group of people in the city
of Detroit, you know the city of Detroit, who just
wants to love their sports. You know, they don't want
to be constantly reminded that Eric Kramer's the last quarterback
in Lions franchise history to win a playoff game. They
don't want the constant negativity. But here we go again,
(41:25):
Rob Parker, you are now spelling doom and gloom. A
team looking for an opportunity to add more draft picks,
to make a trade. And so what if it's with
the New England Patriots, as some of these reports and
rumors are having that the Lions and Patriots are considering
a swap, a trade to where the Patriots would jump
up to the number three pick. I mean, they just
(41:46):
want something to look forward to, more opportunities to spin
the wheel and land a draft pick. And here you
are raging on the parade of Lions fans jet again.
I'm sorry, I've seen it. I lived through the Matt
Millen era where he was general Mat they gave him
the job with no experience. How that worked? You know
what they had? This might be the ultimate You talk
(42:06):
about records never to be broken. You ready Jonas. No
way this ever gets broken. The Lions had two twenty
four game losing streaks on the road. Just think about
the NFL. Is that my bob? Just think about that?
And I covered every game. Okay, see, you recovered every game.
So you were at the game that they broke it
(42:27):
under Mariouchi, which was in Chicago, Week one, correct, that
was Week one in Chicago. That was worth yeah, because
I was at the game and it's where Roy Williams,
who was the receiver for the Lions, made that incredible catch,
one of the best catches I've ever seen in my life.
If you go google Roy Williams, I forget what year
it was. I want to say two thousand and four,
(42:48):
two thousand and five. He made a one handed grab
That's one of the great catches you'll ever see. But
I remember that game because they broke like the second
longest road losing streak, and I think it was their
own record that year, right, it was unbelieved. I'm telling
you it was absolutely crazy. But my point is that
the lines have been through so much. You know, I
(43:08):
worked there for twenty two years. I've seen all of
the bad times. And the thing I don't understand is
they just keep making the same mistakes. I get it.
Matthew Stafford puts up numbers. He was the first overall pick.
People always complain he never had any players with them.
I remember Calvin Johnson being on that team. I remember
(43:29):
and Donmackinsue being on that team with Matthew Stafford. And
still here we are ten going into eleven years of
Matthew Stafford at the helmet quarterback and you have nothing.
You have no playoff wins and three trips to the playoffs.
So you have the third overall pick. Why are you
rewarding the Patriots? Why are you even entertaining the idea?
(43:53):
Can you imagine if they make some bad deal because
they owe they feel like, oh, Bob Quinn, I mean
Bill Belichick something and Quinn and Matt Patricia and you
know their disciples from Belichick, and they give him a
sweetheart deal. We'll take care of you. You take the
(44:14):
third pick, you get to h and Bill Belichick's career
continues on and he has a shot to do more
stuff and win more Super Bowls or whatever, and the
Lions are left holding the bag. If I'm a Lions fan,
I'm not interested in any deal, I'm gonna take the
best player available. I'm not making a deal with the
Patriots their draft. I don't know where they're gonna be drafting. Yeah,
(44:35):
you know what I mean. It's not like they're definitely
going to be the worst team in the NFL and
you have a chance at something. I'm not buying it.
Falling all the way off to Cliff, would you make
the move? It depends on what the offer would be.
I find it hard to believe, and I know that
this thought has been thrown out there. Well, you know,
Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn want to do a solid
(44:56):
for Bill Belichick. Let me tell you something right now.
If I'm running the line and I find out and
sort of one of the thoughts that's been thrown out
there is Matt Patricia is you know, making sure if
something happens in Detroit and he fails, that you know
he's still on good terms with Bill Belichick. If if
that's the equivalent to still keeping your ex's number in
(45:18):
your phone just in case things don't work out with
your current one. Not about you now, I don't know
about you. I don't play that game, all right. That
that is, that is not what I do here on
Fox Sports Radio. But if I'm the Lions and Matt
Patricia is pushing for a trade with his former team
just so he's got a landing spot if things don't
(45:38):
work out in Detroit, and he could be on good
terms with them, and there's a real chance Jonas, if
he has another bad year, that he will be Just listen,
there were a lot of people who felt that the
Lions would have been justified firing him after this season,
Like there was there's a lot of people that have
not been happy with what's happened. They've traded away good
players and they've not performed well. And I just think
(45:59):
if I'm a Lions fan and there's something too the
fact that my current coach is not just worried about
his current job but also his next job, I'm sorry, man,
I'd have a real problem with that. I absolutely would,
That's what I'm saying. And especially a player of that
caliber who could turn into something, do you know what
(46:20):
I mean? Like it would just be the Lions luck.
It would be that they passed on a guy of
that caliber and he winds up being this great quarterback
for somebody else, for the Patriots, and you would sit
there holding the bag and I would just I still
would take him. I'm the Lions or one of those
teams to me that can take a chance on tour
(46:41):
even though they have Stafford, do you know what I mean? Like,
you haven't won anything, you haven't done anything. You might
be able to take a chance and then move Stafford
after next year or something to a team that needs
a quarterback, or maybe if you take tour the charges
all of a sudden, I'm interested in Stafford and there's
some way of working out a deal, or you can
send them somewhere else, So send him to New England
(47:04):
or whatever. I mean. I look, if Matt Stafford was
on the open market, he'd get he gets swallowed up
in a hurry. I see, I'm much higher this salary
cap situation. That would make it harder. But I still think,
I mean, I'm much higher on Matt Stafford than you are.
But you know to your point, and you can't deny it.
(47:24):
He doesn't have a lot of wins to go along
with it. I also think this is an organization that
has just been riddled with dysfunction. Like let's just let's
call it what it is. They're two greatest modern era
players in the history of the franchise are Barry Sanders
and Calvin Johnson. And both of those guys, at least simultaneously,
(47:45):
or at least one or the other was at odds
with the organization after they left. Calvin Johnson, I think
is still not happy with the Lions organization and the
way that he was traded on the way out the door.
Barry Sanders, he wanted he wanted to keep designing bonus.
Let's see, so you quit, walk out on a team,
and you want the signing bonus. I mean it sounds
like I'm sorry, that sounds like something you would do
(48:08):
in fact, In fact, I'm pretty sure I saw you
do that at Alpoiloco. If I'm not mistaken, I just
I mean, look the I I if I'm the Lions,
I continue to float it out there because I think
the Lions are where the draft takes a turn. If
somebody really believes TOA is the guy, and you've already
(48:28):
got Stafford and you can get a couple of real
quality picks or who knows a position player or something
like that, you absolutely have to be open to doing it.
Because there's some people that think the Lions really like
Jeffrey Okuda, who's a cornerback out of Ohio State, really
good player. You didn't I know that. That's that's the problem.
(48:50):
It's they've they've made moves in recent history and under
Matt Patricia where you're scratching your head looking around, going
what the hell's happening here? And the other part of
it too, that I don't understand why the Lions are
now backtracking. And this is and I remember making this point.
So the Packers general manager went on the air and
(49:11):
was talking about how they would absolutely consider a quarterback
later on in the draft if there was a quarterback
sitting there and he was high enough on their draft board,
they'd absolutely consider one. Simultaneously, I remember the story coming
out the same weekend, this is like a month and
a half ago. Simultaneously, the Lions general manager comes out
and says, absolutely not, We're not taking a quarterback. You
(49:32):
know that's not the planner, Dude. You should be open
to anything, and you should be open to throwing out
any ideas because I get that you have Matt Stafford,
and I like Matt Stafford too, But if an offer
came in that I felt could benefit me and my organization.
Why the hell wouldn't you make the move? You should.
You are a bad football team. You've been bad for decades,
(49:54):
not a couple of years, for decades. You've been the
laughing stock of the league and in that division for
a long long time. You should be open minded to
any and all comers. And if it's if it's the Patriots,
if it's anybody else, that's fine. I just find it
hard to believe that New England is going to acknowledge
they lost the Tom Brady sweepstakes and move that far
up to take a quarterback at number three. No, I
(50:15):
hear you. I'm just saying it could. It's one of
those things. And like you, the best part is Patricia
and Quinn doing Belichick a solid. Oh my ghost. Things
happen and I'll always remember, you know, trades and you go,
how did that happen? Why did that general manager make
(50:36):
that move? You know what I mean? Danny Ange, Kevin McHale,
Remember that Danny Ange. Kevin McHale, Like everyone, everybody talks
about Danny Ange. And Danny Ange is a really good
general manager and he's got a real eye for talent.
But let's be honest here, and Celtic fans can get
upset about this all they want. If Danny Ange and
Kevin McHale they never great relationship. Yes, Kevin Garnett's not
(50:56):
on the Celtics, so especially for what they gave up,
they didn't have to give up one of their best
players to get Kevin Garnett to just, you know, to
basically you'd have to take away one of the pieces
in order to get them. And that didn't happen. Absolutely,
And that's what I'm talking about. Stuff like that happened.
And if that happened to the Lions, if I was
a Lions fan, I would be outwaged, especially because you know,
(51:19):
if it's a buddy buddy thing, not only are you
helping him out, you're probably giving him a little bit
of a discount, right, So you're probably looking at you
you probably aren't getting like, why did the Patriots only
get a second round pick from the San Francisco forty
nine ers for Jimmy Garoppolo. It's because Belichick and Kyle
Shanahan struck up a relationship and have a really good relationship.
So it wasn't a matter of let me screw over
(51:41):
my buddy here, he's my buddy. Let me cut him
a discount. You know, if the Patriots come calling and
the Lions take that offer, it probably wasn't the best
offer that was on the board. And if I were
a Lion fan and I found that out, I'd be
pissed off, no doubt. I think the Lions this will
be an interesting draft to see where they what they
wind up with. It sounds like they want to trade
(52:04):
down so that they're not force with taking a player
like two, or they're saying that they don't want to.
But when you have a talent sitting there on your
face and you'd swing and miss. I mean, how about
all the people passed on Aaron Rodgers who dropped right
in the draft and he made most of them pay absolutely?
So do you agree if the Lions were trading with
(52:27):
the New England Patriots, If they were to do a
deal with New England and give New England the opportunity
to draft twa or some other quarterback in the draft
at number three, would you be upset? If you are
a Lions fan? Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox
is the phone number eight seven seven nine nine six
six three six nine. It's The Odd Couple. Rob Parker,
(52:50):
Jonas Knox here in for Chris Brussard on Fox Sports Radio,
Stick and Stay America. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and Parker weekdays
at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the iHeartRadio app. It is the Odd Couple

(53:12):
Jonas Knox in for Chris Brussard. You can check out
the show on the iHeartRadio app. Coming up ten minutes
from now here on FSR, a six time pro bowler,
Donovan McNabb will join us here on Fox Sports Radio.
Looking forward to catching up with Donovan McNabb here on FSR.
Rob Parker, we were talking about this um and I
(53:34):
know you take great joy. By the way, do you
feel like you've scratched the itch? You've now trashed the
Lions organization for the rumors out there that they might
do a deal with the Patriots and give the Patriots
a number three pick overall? Do you feel like you
scratch the itch? It's like all home week for me,
very nice. It's it's like an old an oldie, but
goody for Rob Parker here. So the question was, if
(53:56):
you were a Lions fan, would you feel disrespected? Would
you feel angry if your team did a deal with
New England based on their relationships Bob Quinn Matt Patricia
being former Patriots staff members now with the Detroit Lions,
if they did a deal, a buddy deal with Bill
Belichick and the Patriots, giving New England a three pick,
(54:17):
would you be upset about it? Eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six six
three six nine. And let's go to the phones, now. Yeah,
you know, I think I think we have a recording,
mess recording of the conversation between Bob Quinn and uh
Bill Belichick. Hey Bill, this is Bob, And you know
(54:40):
we're gonna get blown out in Detroit here out after
this Seasonal Stafford's awful. Oh we just can't win any
games here. But if we and me and Matt take
care you, you know, when this thing blows up in
our face, maybe we can get back to New England.
Is that is that good? You want two number three pick? Okay?
That's I'm sorry, that was how it went. I mean, yeah,
(55:01):
that's I mean it sounded like an Irish guy. I
know that you know whatever it is, Irish guy drinking
black Irish coffee exactly, exactly, all right, Kevin and Santa Fe,
New Mexico. You're on the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio.
What's up, Kevin? Hey, what's going on? By the How
you doing? Man? Doing good? You know what? Santa And
New Mexico is one place I've never been, and you
(55:24):
gotta come out here. Man, we're looking. I'm on twenty acres.
I'm looking at some mountains and beautiful blue sky, drinking
a beer, just listening to you guys. Nice Are the
mountains red that you're looking at? They're always freaked me out.
I drove through New Mexico one time and the mountains
just got red and it was weird. Well, we still
got snow on the mountains out here. It's been really
nicely so. But I've been a lifelong lines fan and
(55:45):
I'm always listening to you guys, and man, I'll tell
you what they would. I would trade that pick to
whoever would give him the most picks because it's such
a deep draft, and I would just load up because
if you're gonna keep Stafford, you gotta go for it
now because he's only got a year or two last
or either that or they're playing the game, or I
hope they hope they lose, you know, as many as
they can and get into the Trevor Lawrence Street steaks.
(56:07):
Other than that, it makes no sense. You know, if
you're gonna keep Stafford, you're not gonna keep You're not
gonna draft toa Why why couldn't too? Why couldn't too?
Would be the quarterback for next year? Since Stafford? No,
A man's off the Lions too, right, Yeah, you know too,
He's no, he's not gonna be any good dude. He's
he won't be any good with the Lions, is what
(56:27):
you're saying. He won't. He won't be any good period.
He's too slow, he can't get away from the from
the pressure. I mean. So he's gonna be a top
He's a top. He's gonna be a top five pick
and terrible. Is that what you're saying. Yeah, he's gonna
be Andre Ware That's what I'm saying. Okay, wow, all
right now, alright, but by the way, just a little
behind the scenes here at Fox Sports Radio, because we
want to paint the proper picture. Here a Rob Parker
(56:51):
showing his loyalty to the city of Detroit. He's wearing
an autographed Hawaiian shirt from Wayne Flontsons autographed Hawaiian shirt.
It's a big buck, Wayne Fox eight seven, seven ninety
nine on Fox. If you want to chime in, if
you were a Lions fan, would you be I rat
if they made a deal with the devil? I mean
to deal with Bill Belichick and the Patriots. I about
(57:14):
Bernie and Louisiana. If you're on the eye couple of
Fox Sports Radio, what's up Bernie? Hey, guys, this disregarding
the fact that I can't stand Belichick and the Patriots.
If I were a Lions fan, I would be mad
a chip for the fact that I just don't think
(57:34):
too is gonna be durable enough. There are too many
red flags on his ability to stay healthy. So yeah,
I'd be mad. But by the same token, i'd also
beat tickle pink that they traded this piece of China
dog crystals the Bill Patriots, Bill Belichick. All right, so you,
I guess you would be okay with it. I mean,
(57:55):
if you're saying it's fine because you don't want to
it that's different. Brother, Ask you this, do you actually
think that the Patriots would move all the way up
to three to take two? Uh? Like, do you actually think?
Because I I would. I don't know. I really don't know.
And they're always trying. Let me tell you something, The
(58:17):
Patriots are famous for rolling the dice. Right. Aaron Hernandez
was on the do not draft list by so many
teams find out. I don't know, was it the gang
and was it the gangs in New Britain Connecticut? But anyway,
(58:38):
but he was right. Yeah, what did they do? They
decided we're gonna take him because we're getting this guy
who's a hell of a football player, got other issues,
but maybe it'll work out for us. They take chances.
But here's the thing. If the if the Patriots, who
and all that we've heard about is man Jared Stidham,
Jared Stidham, Jared Stidham. If the Patriots right after losing
(59:01):
Tom Brady and having Brady make them and make the
rounds on the media, and I know you're a big
Brady guy making the rounds on the media and talking
about how you know it was just time to go
and time to move on. If the Patriots right after
all of that, moved up to number three to take
two a tug of iloa. That would tell me that
(59:24):
they're acknowledging we're panicking because we thought Brady was going
to be back, and we whipped on trying to get
a deal done. That's why, That's why I find it
hard to believe that New England's a team to move up.
I think Detroit's and maybe throwing these names out there
that the Patriots are there because people are getting scared
that it's Belichick, and if Belichick gets him and the
Patriots are dominant, we can't let that happen. I think
(59:45):
Detroit's trying to drive up the price tag. I just
I don't think that it would be the Patriots. But
if it was, and they gave him a hometown discount
and there were better offers out there, but it was
Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia trying to help their guy out.
If I was a Lions fan to be pissed off,
let's go to Detroit, Steven, Detroit, you're on the odd couple,
Fox Sports Radio. What you got, Steve, I'm agreed with
(01:00:07):
my buddy Rob Parker. Just I'm gonna say two words
famous by Rod Parker. Already got the deal so Detroit. Oh,
we we went, Steven with your phone. We got a
(01:00:28):
bad connection. I want to hear what you have to say.
He's called tried again. He's calling from the Silver Dome.
Oh yeah, that they blew up, Steve. Yeah, hold on,
try it again. Are you on speaker or something? Yeah,
hold on, come on, Steve. We got a radio show
to do. Hey, Rob, I'm gonna run the liquor story.
You need anything? Yeah, right, pack of smokes baby oil.
(01:00:51):
There it is all right, Rob Parker, Jonah stocks uh

(01:01:38):
He is Rob Parker. I'm Jonas Knox in for Chris
Brussard here on Fox Sports Radio. Coming up in about
twelve minutes from now here on FSR, Rob Parker, we
are going to have a discussion that I think you're
going to have intimate knowledge on and it's relatable to
everybody listening here on Fox Sports Radio, right it is.
It is a discussion that must be had. So we'll
have that four year twelve minutes from now here on
(01:02:01):
Fox Sports Radio. Awaiting Donovan McNabb should be joining us here.
Hoping to catch up with Donovan coming up here, because
I think he would have He's a guy who would
have really good insight as to what the most difficult
aspects are coming from the draft to the NFL. I mean,
with this offseason being shortened, just which guys are going
(01:02:22):
to be are going to have the most success or
guys are going to be willing able to carry on
their success from college at the next level because it's
it's a significant jump. And Rob you know this, seeing
how many guys come from these college offenses and then
they get to the NFL and an NFL coach tries
to get him due to something different than they did
in college, and then you're expecting him to have success.
(01:02:43):
I feel like with the success of Lamar Jackson, more
and more guys in the NFL are saying, let's take
what they do well and try and get it to
work in our offense at the NFL level. I agree
with that. I always say that I give pat Riley
like the biggest credit as coach when he went from
the Lakers to the Knicks, because the Knicks didn't right.
(01:03:05):
The Knicks didn't have that kind of talent for showtime.
So what did he do? He made them into Bruisers right,
played a totally different style. He didn't try to force
Patrick Ewan and Charles Oakley and Anthony Mason into somehow
being magic and James Worthy. He couldn't do that right
it well, he adapted. I think that that's the way
(01:03:26):
you should look at your personnel. How can I get
the best out of them? And it wasn't one of
these you know, come meet me, he said, no, no,
I'll go meet you, what do you do well and
let me try and highlight that as opposed to trying
to get you out of place or out of position,
and it just you know, it doesn't it doesn't work.
And it feels like in the NFL for so long,
(01:03:46):
I wonder how many quarterbacks careers could have been different
had they been with today's thought process of what did
they do well and play to their strengths, because I
feel like a lot of careers were either shortened or
didn't up to where they could have been based on
not having the right open minded ideas to add an organization.
(01:04:06):
They get drafted by one hundred percent. So you know,
I don't get it, Like coaches have their style and
this is what we run. You know, it's like Jonas,
you've seen it before. Where, um, if they're going to
run the three four to four to three right, and
if they were running if this coach is a three
(01:04:27):
to four, then all of a sudden, the guy who
was a really good player, all of a sudden you
don't need them right and then and then they get
rid of them. It's just like, oh no, we don't
run that, so you won't play here. And I'm just like,
what I can remember when Mike Martz was the offensive
coordinator in Chicago and he said, well, you know, I
don't really use the tight end, so you know we're
(01:04:49):
gonna go ahead and trade our starting tight end. That
was Greg Olson. Last I checked Greg Olson. Greg Olson
had a pretty damn good career after that. It might
be a borderline Hall of Famer when it see one
hundred percent. He had no use for him because that's
not what in his playbook. He didn't go to the
tight end, and despite having a talented one. And I
also feel and I think this is a good thing
because because the leash is so much shorter on coaches
(01:05:12):
nowadays to where it look, if you have a bad year,
you might get fired. I mean it's you know, I
mean it's not often, but there is a potential that
you might get fired. Allah what happened with Steve Wilkes
and Arizona or some of these other places. And so
I think coaches realize, look, I need to win games.
John Harbaugh realized I gotta win games or else the
(01:05:34):
writing was already on the wall. They were going to
go in a different direction. So he just played to
whatever Lamar Jackson did well played to his strengths and said,
at least win me enough games. Maybe we make a
playoff run and I get an opportunity to come back
next year, and we can figure it out in the
off season. But I think Lamar Jackson's the most obvious
use of a guy's strengths and trying to build around
(01:05:58):
that as opposed to somewhere else. No one trying to
make him just a pocket passer and say, don't think
about running, just stay in the pocket no matter what
and throw the football would be a mistake and and
you don't know how long it's gonna last, or you know,
and all that kind of stuff. But that's what any quarterback.
You could get blindsided, get hurt, you know. So so
(01:06:19):
go out there, use your ability to the best of it,
and then see see what you can make out of it.
And you're right. What they did with Lamar Jackson was brilliant,
and Harball get to stick around Baltimore for a number
of years. And like another example, Alex Smith. Look, Alex
Smith was a number one pick of the draft, and man,
I think he was if I'm not mistaken, I think
(01:06:40):
he got bench for Tim Rattay in San Francisco like
he was bad for a long time and all tie
the rice A Roney Tree, Yeah, absolutely, yeah that guy.
Are you gonna be here all night, all night by
the veal. But I remember he went through like six
or seven different offensive coordinators. It just wasn't working, and
(01:07:01):
he was looked at as a bust, and all of
a sudden, Jim Harbaugh came in and said, well why
don't we do this, And next thing you know, he's
a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback. Goes on to Kansas City,
had really really good seasons with Kansas City. Was a
borderline top five MVP candidate a few of those years
in Kansas City, and Alex Smith turned out to have
(01:07:22):
a pretty impressive career coming from where he started. And
it was all because somebody stopped trying to get him
to do what he couldn't do and started to build
around what he could do. And it was just a
completely different player. And I still remember that playoff game
that he beat Drew Brees in the Saints. Oh my god,
one of the one of the better games I've ever seen.
That was a great game. And I remember saying, uh,
(01:07:47):
in that situation that that, uh, it just it showed
me a lot there and Alex Smith, and I was
I was really impressed because Drew Brees, if you remember, Jonas,
had thrown a touchdown to put them ahead. Alex Smith
had to come back with another one and he did it. Yeah,
it's so, it's uh, it'll be interesting to see what
Donovan McNabb has to say. We're going to catch up
(01:08:08):
Bedonovan coming up top of next hour, So twenty minutes
from now, we're gonna catch up. But Donovan McNabb haded
to push him back a little bit, but he'll have
some really good insight on just being drafted in the
NFL and a quarterback making a jump from college to
the pros. Jonas Knox Rob Parker in for Chris Brussard
here on Fox Sports Radio. All right, coming up next,
there is a discussion that we are going to have
(01:08:31):
that doesn't just involve us, It involves you because you
listening to this right now, are experiencing this right as
we speak, and as you listen. Don't go anywhere. It's
The Odd Couple, stick and stay America. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard
and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four pm
(01:08:54):
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. It
is the odd couple. Here on Fox Sports Radio, he
is Rob Parker. I am Jonas Knox in for Chris Brussard.
Coming up top the next hour, fifteen minutes from now
here on Fox Sports Radio, we will catch up with
Donovan McNabb, former NFL quarterbacks, six time Pro bowler, all
(01:09:16):
sorts of fun stuff around the NFL and with the
NFL Draft looming, so looking forward to that, Rob Parker,
are you ready for a little shop talk? Let's do it.
Ain't nobody's little been a bomb shop? You know that?
Ain't nobody? Isn't it you talking about whoever, whatever, whatever
you want to in a boat shop talk? Yes, there
(01:09:37):
it is shop talk. We do this every single day.
We take a segment to discuss something to happen outside
of the world as sports, because let's face it, there's
not a lot happening outside in world sports right now,
so we gotta fill the time somehow. Geez, and it's
better than pro wrestler point star. Oh come on, no,
it's not all right. So today's story comes to us
courtesy of our friends at the LA times. They're fashion
(01:09:59):
editor post in an op ed today, and let me
just read to you the headline. Enough with the work
from home with sweatpants, dressed like the adult you're getting
paid to be. So you did a five hundred words
about why you should not be working from home in sweatpants,
Rob Parker, you work in studio in sweatpants? Share your thoughts.
(01:10:20):
What's wrong with sweatpants? And what are you dressing up for?
It makes absolutely no sense. Sweatpants are comfortable your home.
You're not in a work environment. I know you're working
at home. You mean to tell me I'm gonna put
on some uncomfortable slacks and shoes to sit in my
apartment by myself? Is that really what you want me
to do? Or be comfortable in some yeasies and some
(01:10:44):
nice soft sweatpants and a nice Adida's black zipper down jacket.
You knows? Is that a new cold medicine or something
very nice? You know? She used to be that she
was George Jefferson. That it's true. I did know that.
I that so I got the kawhi letard. You got
(01:11:06):
the crickets. See why. Here's here's the part that bothers me.
About this. It's it's these people who need to like
get into character or get in the role. I remember
going to acting classes and I'd see these morons around
the corner and they'd be psyching themselves up for this
(01:11:27):
script reading. And I'm thinking to myself, Dude, we're next
to a laundry matt in a strip mall in Sherman Oaks, California.
There's a crummy Mexican food restaurant down the street. We're
not on a Hollywood set somewhere. Look at your lines,
understand what they are, and go perform. I never understood
people that need to get in the role. So I
never understand these people that are like I need to
(01:11:49):
dress good in order to perform. Well, no, you don't
throw on a pair of sweatpants. Be like me. I'm
wearing a sorong right now and I got nothing underneath it.
Rob Parker, I'd like Hawaii that TM. Hey, so wrong
Fridays here on Fox Sports Radio. Just do your job.
Who cares what you're wearing. Go to work, have some energy.
(01:12:10):
You don't need a tire to get you in the mood.
I think it's ridiculous that dinner. I'm gonna eat after
the show. I've already thrown up in mob Gee, what
do you think sweatpants at home? Is that all right? Well?
I must say, though the social media editor for La
Time twitter handle, they were already backing off this story
saying please forgive us and and you know, robots said
this tweet not me. Yeah, it was pretty bad soft,
(01:12:33):
But I'm in the minority here. I'm actually siding with
the fashion editor on this horse you are because I
just don't feel like I can I can function at
my highest level if I'm not showered and I haven't
brushed my teeth and I'm not I'm not saying don't
tell you you're like, I'm ready to work, But why
sweatpants have to do with production? What I'm wearing sweatpants?
I feel a little too comfortable. I don't feel like
(01:12:55):
I'm able to to to operate at a high level.
Then walk around on knives the break if you don't
want to be comfortable, man, like, who cares? Let me
tell you something like like rob A lot of people
don't know this. I'm Jamaican, but you wouldn't know because
it's radio Like a lot of people wouldn't know that. Yeah,
so you'd wear whatever you want to wear, you whoever
you want to be. Alex were are you on this,
you would wear sweatpants, wouldn't Rob. I'm wearing sweatpants right now.
(01:13:18):
If we speak all the time in the studio, I
probably have no pants if Rob G wasn't here. But
the thing is, I don't think that the mentality of
that is like I've heard in sports too, Like I
was a in beer League soccer for a long time,
played in college. They always said you got to dress
good to look good, to feel good. But I mean,
in my opinion, whatever works for you, go ahead. But
I kind of think it's like a stigma that people
(01:13:38):
are trying to use to motivate themselves, just like the
whole angry thing. I want to excuse to be angry,
so I'm angry because I haven't eaten. I just think
it's like a lot of metaphors and in actuality, just
wear whatever you want, man, be comfortable. What's all this thing?
Do you know what it's? It's about the ability to
get the job done. Yeah, but you don't even know anything.
Who could Where did Alex get off dissing Dion Sanders
(01:13:59):
like that? Because when you started that look good, feel good,
play good, play good, get paid good good for you, Alex,
take them out, good for you, Thank you. Jonas. Yeah,
go for the top. Don't take out the mediocre. Swing
for the trip. Let's also not forget that Jonas is
doing is wearing half a pound of hair gel right now.
Not true, Absolutely not true. I told you washing your
hair and gelling it now. I haven't put product in
(01:14:20):
my hair in weeks. I just I let it roll. Man,
I'm gonna wear the Rob Parker no way, no how.
You know how you know how you're bougie when you
call it products. I haven't put product in my hair.
Well because until they sponsor me, I'm not giving their
name on the radio. Very nice. I could play that game.
I could play the Robin Rob game. Trust me. I
know how you guys work. Yeah, this is interesting. I've
(01:14:42):
always it's the same thing about going into work. I
always could work better when I was in the newspaper
business at home. If I went in it was too
much stuff going on and people interrupting you and want
to talk and all that. When you're at home, you
could just kind of focus in on what it is
you need to do. And there would be people in
the office all day, but they don't get any work done.
(01:15:03):
So the same thing when it comes to dress, and
you could be the best dressed guy at the office.
All you getting the job done and that's where all
that should matter. I remember working at a place one
Jim Duncan had flip Flopson had a great career in
the NBA. Yeah. I remember working at a place one
time and one of the perks they gave us if
we if we did well enough, because the air conditioner
(01:15:25):
was broken, we could wear shirts and shorts and a
T shirt to the office the next day. And I
remember thinking to myself, what, like that's the perk, Like,
not a bonus on your check, not a couple of
extra commas on your check. If you perform well enough,
you can wear board shorts and a T shirt because
our air conditioner is broke. It's ridiculous. Where the hell
(01:15:46):
you want? That's what I say, Rob Parker's that's pretty lame. Yeah,
at least they could have gotten you a frosty or
something from Wendy's. And let me tell you something, as
somebody who dressed up as the rat from Chuck E
Cheese for a while. I don't want to be told
what I gotta wear, all right, because that was that
was punishment at the highest level of employment. Tell you that, Jonas.
(01:16:09):
How many times did you wear sweats when you came
to the studio. Oh, I've never warned sweats? Yeah, what
do you mean? Come on? Are you kidding me? Look,
you don't have to believe it. You just have to
make people believe that you believe what you're saying, all right,
That's that's the whole goal here. I'm not wearing sweats
ros my Cadence, Jonas. I'm in a Armani suit right now.
I wear sweats, but it's a designer sweats. I got
into Jodian brand. It looks great with my sneakers. Or
(01:16:32):
you know, I'm wearing some Gucci sweats for a woman
The Odd Couple. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Odd Couple with Chris Brussar then Rob Parker weekdays
at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the iHeartRadio app. It is The Odd Couple
of Fox Sports Radio, Rob Parker and Jonas Knox. On
(01:16:57):
this Friday, we don't need to bring Jonas in, No,
we do need Jonas to fill in as always a
great job, and it is a funky flashback Friday, I'll
telephone number eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. We're
coming to you live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studios.
That's right, Bill, fifteen minutes could save your fifteen percent
(01:17:20):
or more on car insurance. Visit Geico dot com for
a free rate quote. And Jonas, Yes, Rob, we're ready
to talk some football. Damn straight, we are. Don't tell
the one. Don't tell me there's no sports going on.
We got the NFL offseason. There's plenty, right. The six
(01:17:42):
time Pro bowler Donovan McNabb joins us here on the
odd couple Fox Sports Radio. Donovan, what's happening? Oh, good evening,
Good evening, fellas, how are we doing? Let's get to
talking about the sports. Yes, I hear it, and that
got the U in enthusiasm going and I love it
on this Friday night. Well, you know, Rob will not
(01:18:04):
get on this show. I can't always get your something
more about a week or seth. You already know. Yes,
he feeds us very well here on the outcome. That's
the way I look at it. So um, let's start
with the quarterbacks and the draft and all this other stuff.
Where are you that there were rumors of reports of
(01:18:27):
that some teams have taken two off their draft board.
They're concerned. It's more than just a hip that he injured.
He has some other injuries. They're concerned about him. Where
do you stand on teams, you know, saying we're gonna
pass on this guy, or is it a smoke screen
coming from a team that's hoping that a team that
(01:18:47):
has a higher selection doesn't take him. Where are you
on that? I believe it's a smoke screen. I look
at it and says, I know, we know that Burrows
probably going to end up being number one, and you know,
every wasn't kind of kind of implanted his name into
the Cincinnati Bengals selection since I would say probably mid season.
(01:19:08):
But at this particular point, I mean, let's be honest.
I mean, the Miami Dolphins need a quarterback in the
Los Angeles charts need a quarterback. So if he's fallen
off off the charts, he's falling past six. So when
you look at this situation, remember what just came out
today about the Miami Dolphins trying to get two up
to get down to Miami so that they can kind
(01:19:28):
of check him out. That ain't something that you will
you heard last month, That's not something that you heard
two weeks ago. But the draft is coming up in
the next couple of days or to speak, and we're
talking about Miami wanting to get too in. I don't
think that these teams are sold on Justin Hubert because
when I look at him last year, they were talking
about him being the first quarterback taking off the board,
(01:19:50):
but he stayed. And then now we're nitpicking his game
a little bit and wondering if he's a mobile guy,
wondering if he can handle the pressure in the NFL.
Kind of team is best suited for him. So we're
trying to figure out positive things and positive places for
him to land for burrowing for Tour, We're basically saying
(01:20:11):
anybody that drafts him, he's gonna come in and be
a star right now. And then I would say the
X factor of them all is Jordan Love. Jordan Love
to me is a guy that if san Diego takes
the shot and number five ends up being Tour and
San Diego takes that shot of bringing Jordan Love in,
look at the weapons that he's playing with. You're talking
(01:20:34):
about Eckler in the backfield. You're talking about Williams on
the outside. You're talking about punter Henry at the tight
end position. You talk about also another premier wide receiver
on the outside offensive line is okay. And then for
Anthony Lynn, this gives him at least an additional two
years where he can groom this young man. And if
this young man ends up being seventy five percent or
(01:20:57):
sixty percent of Patrick Mahomes, think about the excitement that
it brings out in the California area. We've got a

how there's a lot of smoke screens and this we
sort of called this time of year lying season in
the NFL where teams are given out bogus reports and rumors.
Can you think of a can you think of one
or two of the biggest bogus reports surrounding yourself heading
(01:21:38):
into the draft that you read or heard and thought,
where the hell did that come from? Well, I mean
that all comes from mail Kiper in his thirty plus
years of doing this draft, where you basically said I
wouldn't be able to learn a West Coast offer until
for five years, coming from an option office, basically questioning
my football IQ also questioning if I could play on
(01:22:02):
on this league when he was raving about Tim Couch
and his ability to get the ball down, fielding and
do everything else. And then yeah, Ky mcdown and coming
from the Pack twelve, and and the things he's been
able to do. The list goes on. That's kind of
the deal that kind of really upsetted me throughout the
(01:22:24):
whole process of not knowing me, not talking to any
of my coaches, but all of a sudden, just because
I ran a spread and an option offense and I
can't pick up on the West Coas offense. Well, I
think I kind of answered those questions along the way.
But it goes along with Lamar Jackson playing the quarterback position,
goes along with the Patrick Mahomes will he be able
(01:22:45):
to kind of be a gunslinger and make those plays
he made a Texas tech in the league. It goes
along with Deshaun Watson, if he'll be able to come
in and be a star when his head coach already
told you he's the Michael Jordan of football, he'll change
the game. So I just love when when people try
to find something negative to talk about because they can't
talk about your actual game because we're seeing the game
(01:23:08):
on the platform each and every Saturday. So the thing
with me, when I look at the quarterbacks this year,
what can you see about Joe Burrow besides going back
to his last year when people saying he may have
been a fourth or fifth round draft pick, what about
two of talk about his injury, what interceptions? So the
list goes on. I wanted to ask you about Burrow
(01:23:30):
because Joe Burrow. Yeah, I think, you know, like the
Bengals to do anything other than take this guy put
together arguably the greatest college quarterback season ever would be
just ludicrous, Like like you know, like sometimes people outthink themselves.
In this case, there's no way they could do anything
other than this. Doesn't this just fit for this franchise?
(01:23:53):
And what they're doing trying to do. You know what, Leo,
what Rob was funny to me? Um, you know you're
talking about drafting Burrow to be your first pick, So
what does that mean for Andy Dalton? Now doesn't gonna
take you back because John Kitton and Carson Palmer, where
John Kitton I think was coming off of maybe a
Pro Bowl season the starting the next year, and then
(01:24:15):
they had to kind of implant Carson in. So for
Andy Dalton, I would be pretty upset at this ticker point.
And that's for a trade because there are a lot
of teams that could have used his services where I
think it could have changed his career around. But now
you're stuck in Cincinnati. Aj Green is stuck in Cincinnati
at this ticking point, and then you're talking about rebuilding
(01:24:37):
by possibly bringing in the quarterback that's only started two
seasons where his season last year wasn't all that great,
and then Joe Brady comes in and all of a
sudden things change. So you have to question a little
bit with Joe Burrow and are you gonna get to
Joe Burrow from twenty nineteen or you're gonna get the
Joe Burrow from twenty twenty. I get that p right,
(01:25:00):
But if you're the Bengals and you don't take him,
I'm just God just had your greatest right and you
don't take him, and it blows up in your face.
You just will never be able to live that down.
I'm like, it reminded me of the Lakers when the
Lakers took Lonzo Ball right, got talked into it. He's
in your backyard. He played at UCLA. If Magic doesn't
(01:25:20):
take him and he blossoms to a star, people are
gonna say Magic camp draft. This guy was in his backyard.
He could have watched him every night and he blew it.
Am I right? And he had to take Lonzo? Absolutely right?
But you're also also looking to it. Let's let's call
it how we said, I take young gos number one.
That he's in your backyard, isn't he? I mean he's
right there. You've seen him doing on the platform. Joey
(01:25:42):
Botha and his brother were drafted, you know, top picks,
you know, from defensive and from the same place and
coached by the same person and Larry Johnson Senior. So
I think for the Cincinnati Bengals, if you're thinking more
of building from the interior by some line din offensive
lineman and then work your way out. Did not understand
(01:26:04):
the method. But what happens is the media gets so
deep involved on who should pick Fooh, then all of
a sudden, now the Cincinnati Bengals are stuck because their
fan base is listening to the media and they had
to take Burrow. But what happens this, What happens if
Toa becomes an eight nine time Pro bowler, a super
Bowl champion, and Joe Burrow has traded in the year three. Yeah,
(01:26:30):
it looks. It's why I almost would rather pick two
as opposed to one, because if I if I whiff,
then I can't say, well, you know, I mean, look,
I had no choice. I took the second best player,
and I'm sorry the other one. You know, that was
simply where I was at the draft, as opposed to
if I was picking one and I missed on it,
and all of a sudden two turned out to be
a home run. They I don't have to answer those
(01:26:51):
questions for the rest of my career. Well, Jonas, let
me let me add to that too as well. Think
of the Cleveland Browns where Hugh Jackson he passes up
on Carton win. Jared Golkin's pick he passed up on
Carthon went. So it doesn't matter if you're the first pick.
If you're in the top five selection, there's a reason
you're in the top five section. You're a terrible team.
(01:27:11):
So in the top five selection, you have to be
able to hit. He has to become at least a
three time pro bowler. If he does he doesn't become
a three time pro bowler, then you basically have whipped
on that draft pick. Donovan McNabb joining us here on
Fox Sports Radio Jonas Knox, Rob Parker and for Chris
Brussard here on FSR. I wanted to ask you this, Donovan,
(01:27:34):
because Rob and I were talking about this, and I
actually think, especially for quarterbacks, that the NFL is in
a better place than when you came out. And here's
what I mean by that. It feels like nowadays teams
are more open to the idea or of building around
your strengths instead of drafting a guy, putting him in
a completely different system than he was at in college
(01:27:56):
and just expecting him to have success. Have you seen
that sort of grow in the NFL to where when
you came out there were a lot of people that
have whipped. There haven't been a lot of people that
have been bus in the NFL from a quarterback position recently,
because teams are more open to the idea of building
around their strengths. I'm gonna say that's more sixty forty
(01:28:17):
and I'm gonna disagree with you sixty saying that these
offensive coordinators that come in or they're getting new hires
and all of a sudden, now they're part of this
whole draft. They're running their offense because that's all they know.
So when they draft the quarterback, that's what they want
their quarterback to learn. And so when you're rolling the
(01:28:37):
film and you're trying to you know, you're installing the
offense and you're showing highlights of the play ding runs,
the quarterback that they're watching is nowhere near similar to
the one you just drafted. See that's the thing that
people don't understand. When I was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles,
yeah we ran in the West Coast offense, but we
ran it in a different form than what Mike Homer
(01:28:59):
ran it in Green Bay. I wasn't I told Andy
many times, I'm not bred far like I know I'm
watching Filma Brandon running the offense. I love the plays,
and we gotta get the talent to be able to
do that. But I'm not Bred far Yeah, a playoff game,
you know what I mean. Well, it's not it's not that.
It's not that, Robin, just our skill set is different.
(01:29:22):
And think about it. The reason he drafted Patrick Mahomes
in Kansas City because his skill set was just like mine.
It was. It wasn't so much like Bred even though
he was a gunslinger. But Patrick has the ability to
buy time and make it a three second in the
pocket to seven or eight. He has that ability. And
(01:29:43):
Alex Smith had that too. And the thing that we
both did very well was we both protected the football.
And people don't understand if you throw interceptions in college, oh,
you can double that in the NFL. Oh, y'all. And
so that's not on skill. That's just the type of
quarterback that you are. You want to take chances, and
(01:30:03):
when you take chances, you find yourself on the outside
looking in, trying to get a job. All right. His
name is Donovan McNabb, of course, the former NFL quarterback
six time Pro bowler. Well appreciate you, Donovan, stay safe,
stuff you and your family as always exactly you know
what fels. I'm always available anytime you need be. Rob,
(01:30:24):
you know where to find me. And we got the
draft coming up. Get ready because I thinkured after the
first six tis it's don't get interested. All right, we'll
do that. We'll get you on next week. Thanks, Donovan,
appreciate you all right now, you gotta take it easy,
all right to Cleveland Brown say there's no way, no
how they stole my line that they'll trade away Odell
(01:30:45):
Beckham Junior. And I think they're making a big mistake.
I do. I'll explain that next. It's the Odd Couple

Is that? Is that? What's happening there? Or getting a
large die coke from McDonald's or AMPM. That's all I
got telling you. It's so depressing. I'm sorry. And there's
there's good things on television now. One of them is
(01:32:14):
not the horse Tournament. I'll tell you that. No, So
you haven't enjoyed that, Huh, it's the word. It's the
worst sporting event I've seen in a long time that's
been broadcast as a sporting event. Give me to cancel wrestling.
Oh my god, listen. I am a huge fan of
SmackDown on Fox. I'm a huge fan of SmackDown on Fox.
(01:32:35):
I can't wait to watch it here out on the
West coast at eighties cent time on Fox. I'm looking
forward to watching SmackDown. What were you saying, Rob, That's right,
SmackDown on Fox. Very nice, unbelievable, You're unable. Sorry, I'm
just saying, let's say everything anyway, So obju, there were
(01:32:58):
rumors coming out that they were thinking about the Browns
thinking about trading them Jonas, and the Browns came out,
no way, no how they trade them. Not interested. They're
holding onto their guy, even though he had it like
his worst season in the NFL. Actually, the last few
years just have not been that good. Yes, he's been injured,
but they haven't been productive. That great catch was a
(01:33:20):
long time ago, and ever since then, we realized anybody
with those gloves can make catches like that, because we've
seen it, even high school kids. And I'm not poop
pooling his talent. The guys a tremendous receiver. You're not
You're not wedding his talent. I'm not poop pooling his talent.
He's a tremendous receiver. But I would explore it it
didn't work out. How in the world did you trade
(01:33:42):
for him and not make the playoffs? Do you remember
the Bally who they went from a million to one
in Vegas to win to get to the Super Bowl
to fourteen to one and they didn't even make the playoffs.
In baseball terms, he's a home run hitter who batts
two twenty. There you go, it's he's he's Blake Griffin.
He's a lot of sauce, a lot of sizzle. Um,
(01:34:05):
you know, looks puts up some good numbers, but what
does it really mean in the long run? And I
like Blake Griffin, and I'm okay with with a Dave
Kingman who bats low and hits and hits home runs,
or a Glen Allen Hill or somebody like that, I'm
okay with, you know, with Odell Beckham. He's he's a
good player, But the idea that he's this dominant wide receiver,
(01:34:25):
he's he's never been as good a wide receiver as
Antonio Brown. Anybody can try and try and talk me
at off that ledge all they want, Antonio Antonio Brown
has six of the greatest seasons as a receiver we've seen.
And I'll tell you this right now. I think his
teammate Jarvis Landry is a better wide receiver than Odell
Beckham because he gives you the production and he doesn't
(01:34:45):
miss games. He doesn't still really go together. I mean,
they thought, oh, this is gonna work out great. Who
are you going to put an extra guy on? Somebody's
going to be open on one on one coverage? And
the numbers weren't there last year. And I know Baker
may feel who had inflated numbers because they beat up
a lot of bad teams. Go back and look at
(01:35:06):
that season when they was seven and nine. Yeah, and
people thought Baker Mayfield had turned the corner. He had
a couple of games against a horrible Cincinnati Bengals defense
that gave up five hundred yards I think four games
in a row, and a couple of them came against
the Browns. That's how bad it was. But Baker Mayfield
took a step back, and that offense wasn't that good.
(01:35:28):
I just would look into it. I don't think I would.
It's the end of the world. Absolutely, I would one
hundred percent look into it. And I get you traded
away at number one pick, and so you're kind of
taking a loss at this point, but you know what,
it's better than not getting anything in return. I don't
buy the Vikings. The Vikings don't feel like they're a
team that makes that makes a lot of sense. I didn't.
I didn't necessarily buy that report, but I do think
(01:35:50):
that if the right offer was on the table, they'd
absolutely move Odell Beckham Junior. Why did they sign The
last thing they needed was another weapon on offense? So
why why did they go out and sign Austin Hooper
from the Falcons? Like what was unless you knew that
you were potentially looking at going with a more tight
end dominant offense. And if that's the case, then does
(01:36:14):
it really serve you serve you best to have Odell
Beckham's junior also on the team as well too. I
just I think if an offer came along, you absolutely
have to consider moving Odell Beckham Junior. And it's nothing
against him. I think he's I think he's a really
really good player. But I feel like, and this is
this is a fact, and you can actually look up
the numbers. Sometimes quarterbacks get better when they don't have
(01:36:38):
that dominant wide receiver that I need the ball at
all times. Guy Matt Stafford actually got better when Calvin
Johnson left, Like he actually his numbers were better without
Calvin Johnson. I feel like the Browns might even be
better without Odell Beckham because I think they have enough
weapons on offense. It's almost it's like, what do they
say in basketball, there's only one basketball. You can't have
(01:37:00):
that many dominant offensive players. Somebody's gonna have to sacrifice.
I just think maybe the best bet for them would
be get something in return for him right now. Yeah,
and don't wait. You don't want to wait, Like if
he has another bad year, then you get nothing. You
know what I mean? Like this is people are still
intrigued by him. He's not too old. It would be like, okay,
and and and he would wind up what on yet
(01:37:22):
another team? Yam. But but there were always people who
are willing to take a chance, would think maybe he'll
blossom or or have a you know, a fresh scenery
jonas and and uh and and pick up where he
left off when he was a star with the Giants.
But he hasn't been that. And a lot of that
is ego too. It's he's coaches thinking, well, it didn't
work for them, but I can make it work for me.
(01:37:45):
It's why I always felt like John Gruden went out
and signed Nathan Peterman and then promoted him so heavily
on Hard Box because Nathan Peterman had one of the
worst quarterback debuts in the history of the league when
he went to to to La to take up Chargers
and in his debut through five interceptions in one half,
John Gruden brought in Nathan Peterman, and if you're watching
(01:38:07):
Hard Knocks, all you heard was John Gruden talking about
Nathan Peterman this and Peterman that, and he got injured,
no doubt about it towards the end of it. But
that to me felt like John Gruden wanting a reclamation project.
A Well, it wouldn't work for them, but I can
make it work for me. It's also part of the
reason why I think he wanted Antonio Brown because he
thought he could manage him and his personality and it
(01:38:28):
didn't work out that way, no doubt about it. All right,
the college basketball landscape is changing right before our eyes,
and these kids now are starting to realize, you know what,
the day have more power than ever before. And we'll
get into that next, but first be sure to catch
live editions of The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard and
Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm Eastern four pm Pacific

or call eight hundred nine four seven Auto. The only
(01:39:13):
hard part is figuring out which way is easier. We
now bring in Brendan McKinney and Richard Gray, authors of
the new book Slave to the Game about college basketball. Hey, guys,
welcome into the Odd Couple. Guys, appreciate it. We want
to know. I want you to tell me about your book,
(01:39:35):
and especially with the way things are going now, you're
seeing kids who are deciding to go to the G
League situation rather than go to college play college basketball
somewhere for a year. Whatnot? Give me tell us what
this what this book is all about? Man? Exactly what's
going on is the Brandon McKinney talking. It's exactly what's
going on today, these kids knowing their power and their worth,
(01:40:00):
That's what the book is about doing your power and
your work and how you can change the landscape of
any business, any company, any infrastructure. Um in the book
and it's told so we're telling the story through the
through the story or sport about the nation's top hath
league going to an HBCU, something that's never been done. Richard,
(01:40:22):
how did how did you guys get together first? And
how how did this you know, all come to be?
It was there a conversation or was it just a
mutual interest in deciding you wanted to join in on
the venture both of you guys? Oh yeah, so so
Brandon and I, this is Richard. Brandon and I go
back to college who were college roommates, you know, former
Division one athletes, you know, back in back in two
(01:40:42):
thousand and two, two thousand and three, and you know,
from there, man, we've had a lifelong friendship. He's like
a brother to me. You know. I continue to work
in sports and as an agent, you know, with NBA
organizations and things of that nature. And and then this
is there just you know, the conversations that we've had
over the years about these guys come and out, you know,
utilizing that power and going on whatever direction that they
(01:41:03):
choose in a landscape of these industries following and sop
them there. Brandon started the books. You know, I've been along.
He's like a consultant for a lack of better words.
And then just doing a period of time, you know,
I ended up, you know, started the process of penning
aspects of it, and then the whole thing came together.
They just flowed out naturally. I've always said that that
(01:41:24):
athletes have power, but you have to be willing to
sacrifice and do you know, in order to sometimes get there.
And because scouts go to where the players are, I
think a lot of kids have been brainwashed to believe
in that you gotta go to Duke, you gotta go
to Kentucky, and you gotta go to places like that.
And I don't believe that. I think if if a scouts,
(01:41:47):
if they say there's a great player playing at Howard
University and I want to see this kid and he's this,
and he's that, the scouts will go there and scout you.
I mean, am I right? I mean this is the
biggest thing. And why I don't know. I guess the
kids just got brought into it that you have to
play at a big school to be recognized, or you
(01:42:09):
want to be on TV or with the games and
the other stuff. But somehow I think we've lost our way.
And do you think that maybe this this is finally
going to change and maybe they realize that they don't
have to go to those schools anymore. Absolutely, I mean,
I mean what you're starting to see, just even with
you know, the process that just happened with with Jalen Green,
(01:42:31):
you know this is you know, another example of it.
It may not be applied to him going to an HBCU,
but you know, at one point it's only options words
to either go to college at at a at a
major university, OReGO play over seas. And what he did
and one decision is he pretty much forced the NBA's
hand to kind of you know raise the pay, which
has a domino effect then kind of you know, prepare
(01:42:53):
the G League as a you know, the second best
league in the world. So, I let Brandon explained from
a college basketball aspect, but it's literally the same thing
gets applied to another way. Yeah, just like like piggybacking
off Rick um La Melo ball. They really ones that
change the change the Dynamics, La melow Ball and the
RJ Hampton. By them going over to Australia, they they
(01:43:14):
made h They forced the NBA to to uh to
change the change the game, and they way, you know,
so down they up to Annie with the with the
payment for the g League, and Jalen Green follow suit like, Man,
I don't have to go to Australia. I can just
go to the NBA stand United States, make five hundred
thousand and still have the opportunity to be a top
(01:43:37):
draft pick without going to college. It's ci couple on
Fox Sports Radio, I guests authors Brandon McKinney and Richard
Gray their new book Slave to the Game. John, you
want to jump in, Yeah, And I was just wanting
and Brandon and you know, one of the time if
you guys can both speak on this, you both mentioned
that you know, you know, obviously you know going and
(01:43:59):
being an athlete in college and what that experience is like.
So in a perfect world, if if you could make
a change in college, if you could do something to
the NCAA that would make the college experience that much
better and more rewarding for players, what would you guys
invoke to try and help make the NCAA a better
(01:44:20):
place for these athletes. Well, I'll start with that. I
mean you're actually seeing it. You know, you're seeing you know,
discussions of you know, universities allowed one where it's it's
a state legislation where you're seeing you know, institutions allow
you know, considering players utilizing the intellectual property for marketing purposes,
like you saw that. I think it was a University
(01:44:41):
of Alabama. You know, this past season they helped these guys,
you know, craft up their social media's in a way
where they're able to you know, generate revenues off of it.
And although it's not in place yet, but they're doing
right now. Is that setting those guys up for the
future because they see what's coming. So I think that's
one step. Personally, Yeah, you need to. I think we
(01:45:01):
need to set up a trust. They definitely need some
money put in their pockets because these kids are making
these universities so much money right now because of the
COVID virus, NC double A is losing so much money
and it's only showing what these kids are worth then.
So if you don't want to outright give them money,
(01:45:21):
you know, right being in there put it set up
a trust or something. When these kids graduate, the all
the work they put in for you, you're using their name,
and some of them don't make it to professional professional level.
They need to have something set up where you know,
they can be all right coming out of college. Yeah, yeah,
you just got to be creative. Like I know most
(01:45:42):
most people will probably respond and say, well, all of
NC Double A Division wants schools don't generate the type
of revenues that basketball and football does, but these programs,
see all find a way to fund all of the
other sports anyway, So that same creativity can be applied
to figure out out a way to compensate these guys,
you know, properly and fairly. No, that's a that's a
(01:46:02):
great point, and there is so much money to be made,
and it's just about that's why you know when some players,
I remember Northwestern tried to get a union because he
when you're not represented by somebody's hard to be an
individual stepping out on your own. And I think that's
why they've been able to take advantage of the kids.
(01:46:23):
When the coaches get rich, especially you see all the
money they make, they get the big sneaker deals and
they don't even wear sneakers during the game, you know
what I mean. But but the players, Yeah, I mean
that those are the things that just drive you crazy.
But it sounds like a really good book that I
want to pick up. Jonas, you got anything left? Yeah,
I mean I just to the people that may push back,
(01:46:46):
and you've probably heard this, you probably see it on Twitter,
because I don't know if you guys knew this. Twitter
can be kind of a toxic place sometimes, yeah, believe
it or not. But to the to the people that
push back and say, yeah, but what about these hundred
thou thousand dollars free educations that you guys are getting,
or two hundred and fifty thousand dollars free educations that
you're getting, why should you get more on top of that?
(01:47:08):
What is your response? Well, I'll go first with that.
I mean, it's equal. It's also an equal bargaining. You know,
you can say that you know one person that's providing consideration,
you know, for something that someone else you know does,
but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's fair, and so
it's not always getting what's fair is the what you
have the power to negotiate. The leverage and now that
(01:47:29):
these guys have that type of leverage they can look
beyond the conversation about you know, one hundred thousand dollars education. Yeah,
one hundred thousand dollars can't be the end all to
be all, because again it's not putting money in no
one's pocket. Going to college doesn't guarantee you one hundred
thousand dollars job or a job if that. So this
(01:47:50):
is when you're a student athlete you are They say
you're a student first and then an athlete second, but
we all know the time we're putting in the gym
and putting in in the weight room in film study,
it's more like a job, and it's more like you're
an athlete student. So they can miss me with the
free education or the one hundred thousand dollars education. It's
(01:48:14):
not it's not adding up, no doubt about it, especially
when you sign a six billion dollars TV deal with
CBS for March Madness. All right, So the book is
called Slave to the Game. Where can people pick it
up later the game? You can pick it up on
Amazon dot com right now. It's available in paperback and
(01:48:36):
e book is also available on our website. Eleven forty
Productions dot Com or you also can purchase merchandise. But
the book was created because we created We wrote the
script for it at first, and the book was created
to push the agenda on the idea of a movie.
And that's what we're trying to do. All right, awesome,
(01:48:58):
Thank you guys. We're pre shaded Brandon McKinney and Richard
Gray here on The Odd Couple Fox Sports Radio. Very
interesting stuff. Sounds like a good read. A Pro Bowl
running back could find himself out on the street if
he doesn't start watching what he says. We'll explain that next. Jonas,
that's right, it's The Odd Couple. Rob Parker. Jonas knocks
(01:49:20):
in for Chris Boussard right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox sports
Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search f
SR to listen live another great funky flashback Friday. Rob
(01:49:41):
Parker Jonas knots in for Chris Boussard on his Friday
Night No doubt about it. You got a bone to
pick when Lennon Fournette, what's going on? Oh? Can I
finish dancing first, keep it going, man, and I mean
(01:50:01):
you know what, I'm taking it all off right now,
Rob Parker, I did. I did have a sarong and
nothing else on underneath, and now I've got nothing. Now
I've got no all right, maybe you want to drop
to your knee. Oh wow? So Rob Parker, your guy
Leonard Fournette. All right, your guy Leonard Fournette, as we
(01:50:22):
send you into a supermarket sweep when the show gets
off the air so you can have fun on it
from so excited. I'm gonna put on my watch, a
pair of slacks, and I'm gonna go to the supermarket
and get me uh, I don't know, some frozen food.
So I would love to see you and your south
Ara Gammos, your seven hundred dollars south Ara Gamos buying
buying it disjorno, that's right, don't be like boy, that
(01:50:46):
guy stylish dud? What kind of no? Did you see
the Did you see the front of my mask that
I made a makeshift mask? Did you? Did you know
what you do? So I just happened. I grabbed the
first T shirt I could and I cut the bottom.
I ordered a mask. I'm still waiting and this thing
will be over by the time of the maskall but
I but I so I cut a T shirt, a
white T shirt, and I swear to you I did
(01:51:09):
not try to do this or anything. So when I
cut it and put it on, it had the d
K and why right where the mouth is, Like I swear,
I'm gonna send you a picture to your home. But
it was just funny and everyone's like, oh, you're trying
to be fashionable. I just cut that was the only
T shirt I could cut, Either that or those initials
(01:51:31):
probably not the best, say, you know, probably next time
I would I would recommend going with like a Nike
or something like that. Okay, that would be I'm just
telling you. But your guy Leonard Fournette, all right, your
guy Leonard Fournette, who is openly talking about how he
wouldn't mind his Jacksonville Jaguars going after Cam Newton and
(01:51:53):
even saying like, listen, you know it's no disrespect to uh,
to Gardner minshew. I just you know Cam Newton out
there and he's been to a super Bowl and I
have a good relationship with him. So there's your guy,
mister Teammate of the Year in essence, recruiting the team
to go get another quarterback. I'm okay with it because
I appreciate the honesty from Leonard Fournette, But if we're
(01:52:16):
gonna play this game, I don't want him to bitch
and moan. If Gardner Minshew comes out and starts campaigning
for them to trade for Derrick Henry. I mean, if
we're gonna play this game, I don't I don't want to.
I don't want to see it come back and him complain.
Then that's all I'm saying. Minshew was really we're gonna
make a stink over. I mean, I got I know
he got off to a great start, but he wasn't.
(01:52:36):
He wasn't the end all be all you let sold
on Minshew. I mean, I just you know, you don't
hear me, you know, going during the breaks, or at
least I hope you don't hear me going during the
breaks saying man, I can't wait to be with Brady
Quinn this Sunday and not okay, I mean, I wouldn't
do that because I don't have I don't have clear
same beautiful teeth and hair. I get it. I mean,
(01:52:58):
I mean play in the NFL, but you know, what like,
I'm not playing that game. Buck Bucky Brooks. You know,
you don't see hear me saying. You know, I'm gonna
be on with Bucky Brooks this weekend. You know I'd
rather be with them than Rob Parker. I'm not. I
don't play that game because I'm loyal. I'm not Leonard Fournette. Well,
I get it. Bucky Brooks. You know he makes these
outlandish statements. He don't know where his cup, whether he's
(01:53:19):
coming and going, you know, Bucky Brooks, I don't know.
I don't think if you want Bucky Brooks over me,
I'm in bad shape. I just I think that if
I were a teammate, I don't know that I would
give the media anything to run with at all. Like
I wouldn't give him anything to run with. And so
if the organization thinks that Gardner Minshew is going to
(01:53:42):
have a successful run, or that Gardner Minshew's gonna be
a good player, then I just feel like I feel
like you back your guy, back, your quarterback. He played
much better than Nick Foles did a year ago. And
if I were Leonard Fournette, I backed my quarterback and
my teammate. But apparently he doesn't play that same thing.
I get it, understand, And just because people ask you
(01:54:03):
a question and I'm in the media, I love when
guys do that, you know, give me something. Of course
I'm not. I love it, so I'm not trying to
be talking out of both sides of my mouth. But
I don't understand. Sometimes when they're talking about teammates or
other people that understand the ramifications of it, I'm always shocked.
Like they'll come back and go, oh, I want I
(01:54:23):
don't mean it like that, or I didn't mean to
say I didn't mean to say that. I didn't mean
to hurt the guy's feeling. You just said you'd rather
replace him with somebody else. How do you think that
that's gonna play. I don't understand that. It's like it's like,
I mean, it just wouldn't work any other walk of life.
But for some reason, they'll they'll walk it back, and
then you'll get you'll get Jaguar fans who or get
if those exist, you'll get Jaguar fans that'll get upset
(01:54:46):
and say, oh, you guys are just trying to make
something out of enoughing. It's like, dude, you got a
young quarterback. There, Your team has thrown all their support behind,
and your star running back, your hype drafted running back,
is telling you he wants somebody else to be his quarterback,
not him. Crazy. Hey, did you get that picture or not?
I did get that picture. Crazy, absolutely, I mean I
(01:55:06):
didn't know. I mean it's a little odd, alright, I
mean the hello Hello Kitty, I mean hello Kitty, as
you're as a decas a couple of Fox Sports Radio.
