Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario Lopez. It's up Bria Maria Lopez
joining me now on Zoom. Actress Alexa Pena Viga. Welcome
to the show. Howmorry, Hello, I'm good. It's nice being back.
I know. Nice, nice to see it. Congrats on the
new book. What it is? The point? Great title? What uh?
What inspired you to write this memoir? What's it about? Okay? So,
(00:23):
uh flashback to like seven or eight years ago. We
we'd only been married a year, um, and we did
Dancing with the Stars together, and you know, with those shows,
they want to pinch you against each other, they want
to make like your marriage. Seemed like, oh no, they're
rivaling against each other, and for us, we're like, no,
we're rooting for each other. So um, it kind of
(00:44):
blew up in their faces because the fans end up
writing back in just saying, hey, we love how much
you guys are standing up for your marriage. Thank you
for being a light in marriage, Like when everything on
TV is kind of making marriage feel like this fall
and chain, and we didn't go in do it thinking
that it just kind of happened because we were just
a happy, married new couple. Um, So it just kind
(01:05):
of made us go, you know what, we should write
a book about marriage. But again you're only one year
in so how much do you really know about marriage
at that point? Right? Um? So we decided to create
this one sheet, um because you know, we were both
always deep in our faith and anytime something would happen
in our lives, we'd ask ourselves, well, what's the point, Like,
what's the point of failure, what's the point of success,
(01:25):
what's the point of digging through the trenches? Like, well,
what is the point of all of this? And that's
honestly where the title came from. So what's the point?
One cheat that we came up with? And honestly, at
this point, it's just been the testimony that like we've
had in our lives for these last eight years. Good
for you to be, Um. I'm proud of your faith
and in vocal with it. Um. Thank you. Obviously it's
(01:48):
a strong foundation in it and it works. Uh. I
know you're living in Hawaii's correct? Yeah, So our home
is on Maui, but we're currently on a tour bus,
so you have the tour life behind me and Carlos.
Carlos has a forty four city tour and tonight is
not a square garden. Oh nice. Nice, that's definitely a
(02:10):
break from island life. But when when you weren't um,
just on the island, does it does it seem small?
Does it get old? One would think? No, I think
because we go from busy, busy, busy to just finally
like a small island. Oh sorry, phones. When you're on
the island, it is like a small town. Everybody knows everybody,
everyone knows everybody's junk if there's junk. Um. But also
(02:33):
nobody cares. Everybody just wants to surf. Everybody wants to
just enjoy the sunshine and live. And that's why we
moved out there. We just wanted to live. When we
were living in l A, it just felt like we
were always working, regardless if we were at home or not.
And being on the island, you really just do separate
the two. Yeah, No, definitely, very very much a distinction. Um.
(02:54):
Also in the works a Hallmark movie Love in the Limelight.
What's this one about? Yes? Um, we were actually laughing
because it is about a pop star uh kid who
was in a boy band with his brother. Is kind
of like a minudo situation and he happens to open
this one fan letter and read the letter, and he's like,
this girl is awesome. So they start kind of becoming
(03:15):
pen pals. And for years there these pen pals and
they don't meet until like twenty years later after the
band has broken up, and he's kind of like reviving
his career as like a solo artist. And while they
may or may not fall in love, okay, okay, I'm
better they do, but I'll have to watch and see.
What do you think about Spy Kids getting a reboot
(03:36):
for Netflix? Would you be willing to make a cameo
vest dude? Okay, So I just saw Darryl the other
day who played my brother Juny, who, by the way,
is married to Megan Trainer, who happens to be like
the coolest wife ever. I yeah, she's great. So Darryl
is incredible and we're both talking about it, and you
know the Spy Kids days, Look, you wouldn't you wouldn't
(03:57):
have to twister art. We would do it in a heartbeat. Um,
they have not asked us back. They are moving on
with like other people, which what kind of made us sad.
And we love Spy Kids, but we made it in
the days pre social media. So we actually were kids
on set having the time of our lives. We weren't
worried about likes or if people even watch this movie.
We were just playing dress up every day and I
don't know, we were just kind of in the best way,
(04:19):
sheltered from the like entertainment world. Yeah. No, it's a
great era right there. Um howl. How old are the
kids now? What are they getting into? Okay, so my
kids are five? Kingston's birthday today, he's three, um, and
then a one year old little girl. We finally got
our little big this so she rules the house. Nice
are you? Are you calling him a rap or we'll
(04:41):
have to see. Oh no, I think we're both from
big families. We're just gonna keep going until we have
a football team. Okay, I like it. I like it
very good. Well, good luck with that. In the meanwhile,
pick up What if Love is the point? Wherever you
get books? Alexa, thanks so much checking in No, thank
you for having us well me and then maybe nextcept
we'll get Carlos. Good luck on the road, bye, goodbye.
(05:04):
