Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario Lopez. Mario Lopez joining me out
on Zoom Award winning actor in Marvel's new captain America,
Anthony Mackie. Welcome to the show, my man. How are you?
What's up, dude? I'm good. How are you? I'm well.
Thank you. Uh. First off, you got a birthday on Friday.
Happy Early Birthday, uh, Nice said. It conveniently falls on

(00:22):
the weekend. What you're doing celebrate? I'm going down to
the Cayman Islands, man, going chill out with my man, Frankie. Hey, nice, nice, man,
very good. You. You go there often or just uh yeah,
one of it's one of my best friends, dude, and
he lives down there. His families from down there, so
we just go and fish and hang out and swim
with sting right. Sounds like a good time right there, man,

(00:44):
we'll have fun and again, happy, happy early birthday. Um,
you've been playing the hero in real life, helping families
in New Orleans who have been hurt by natural disasters.
A lot of people still in need out there. Huh, yeah, yeah,
it's uh, you know, when you flying to New Orleans
and when you're flying into the Gulf shore area, you know,
you see these homes with these blue tarps on them

(01:06):
and they've become synonymous with natural disasters, you know. So
I teamed up with G F and UH, we're going
out now and giving people whose roofs um the area
I live in New Orleans, area I grew up, and
it's called the seven ward, and we're doing a hundred
and fifty roofs in the seven ward and we're doing five,
five hundred across the Gulf Coast Region for, you know,

(01:29):
people who are living on a fixed income, people who
don't have insurance, people who need a need a roof,
you know, need their homes to be stabilized. That's awesome.
You're doing that, giving back five hundred roofs right in
the area. As expensive to repair, you really end up
a lot of people. Good for you, Um, and you've
got real roof and experience. Yeah, man, that's how it

(01:53):
all came about. Is I grew up on the roof.
My Dad, UH was a roof for one of the,
you know, most prolific roof and companies in New Orleans.
So as a teenager, you know, you turned thirteen, you
gotta get up on the roof over the summer and work.
So you know, it didn't end well, but it let
me know that I could play a roof in the
movie and not real life. Yeah, you know, you know

(02:15):
what you're doing out there. I love that area, by
the way. I always say because I said, I used
to spend a lot of time down there. I'm a
big Foodie. You can duplicate a lot of food. Can
Get some good Italian food, good Mexican food. Ever, where
you can't get like good Cajun food outside of Louisiana?
In that area right there, right like you. Everything else
just just for some reason, like you're good a two

(02:35):
phase and crawfish boils and Gumbos and all that. You've
got to be in the area right there. Well, I'll
tell you this. Even the Popeye's is different, like when
I first came to pope eyes in Times Square and
I was like, Oh man, I miss home, let me
get some Popeye' and it it failed in comparison to
New Orleans Popeye. No, it's the best. I put Tony Sasturies,

(02:56):
that seasoning on everything. That's what I thought. You know,
and everything. Yeah, exactly. H We gotta talk about the
M C U Coming Captain America, New World Order kind
of kind of sounds like a spike thrillers or anything
you can tell us about. Um, I'm in it. Uh.
You know, I played captain America. Um. And Uh, that's

(03:17):
about it. We started shooting. Next year we'll be in
Atlanta trying to get it proper. Okay, okay, I know
they got you all some more into secrecy out there. Um,
what kind of workouts are you doing to stay in
Superhero shape? Oh, man, I'm about to get back in
and now that's what this birthday trip is about. This
is my last Hurrah and I'm gonna Tak the next
five months and just clean it up. Man. It's just,

(03:38):
you know, covid got everybody. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the covid fifteen.
I get you. You just finished film a new series
for peacock, twisted metal. What's time on all about? Oh,
it's based on a video game, um from the mid
nineties and Um playstation released a game called twisted metal.
It's basically this guy who's a Milkman. He's a delivery

(03:58):
man and he had stern drive through popes apocalyptic America
to make these deliveries to different settlements and in between.
He's being chased and trying to be destroyed by these crazy,
whacked out characters. So we just took it and did
a little spin on it and made the show off it. Oh,
that's cool. And I was shot in your hometown, right,

(04:19):
New Orleans? YEA, yeah, yeah, we shot in New Orleans.
My last three jobs. I brought him to the new wall.
Is that right? Oh, that's good. And do the homies
Um hit you, because I gotta imagine when you go
because when I go back home, man, it's like, Dang,
the homies are hitting you up. It's almost like a distraction.
You just kind of Hook them up to make it easier.
How you deal with the family and friends back home?
Now I'll tell you. I have a cousin. If this

(04:41):
is when it first started. I was doing this movie, uh,
called synchronic in New Orleans, right. So one night was
shooting on the river. He pulls up with his truck
with a lit barbecue grill on the back of his truck,
with a cooler full of ice and everything. He opens
the cooler to out the table, makes a full bar

(05:02):
start serving off the grill while we're shooting. I like
that dude. Was He caterine or was he just looking
it up? He was looking it up. He was tight. See,
I got cause it's just like that. Right there. I
like that for right there. Hey, you like the fish,
I hear. Oh yeah, that's cool. You use a bow

(05:24):
and Arrow. Yeah, I just went a boat fishing this week.
I went um at. We got this thing in New
Orleans where it's a night fishing. So you go out there,
shine the lights on the water and you can pick
the fish off and pull them in the boat. Oh
Damn it was that as difficult as it sounds? It's
very difficult. It's very difficult because the fish as soon

(05:44):
because you're on one of those big fan boats, so
as soon as they hear the fan they run off.
So you have to shoot them. But the problem is
when you shoot him, the Arrow hits the water and
curves up. So you have to shoot them at's at speed,
but a foot below where they are, because so when
it hits the water. Oh Wow, what a trip. That
his accuracy at his finest man. But it's a good time.

(06:06):
Took a bunch of the news. It's a good time.
That sounds like a lot of fun. And how how
old hold of the kids now? UH, thirteen, nine, seven
and five. Nice. That's busy, right. We just went to Disneyland.
Shut it down, shut it down. Hey, they're good, they're
good to go then for a while. God Pop's cooking
up right there. Well, congratulations on everything, man. Be Cool

(06:28):
to kick it in New Orleans with you one time.
I love that town. Come through, man, I got some
Tony Sansion right for you. Hey, sounds here. There's a
little accent. I like it. I always tripped out that
the people for actually from New Orleans. They don't have
the accent. It's always outside, because I had an accent.
was from Bowbridge, Louisiana. So I spent so I spent
a lot of times and everything like talking like the
head out of damnt car, right, you know, the real

(06:50):
I remember that accents, real peculiar. It's cool, though, but
the people in the city, I realized, didn't. and My
crazier was that right. No. So the difference is this.
You have a New Orleans acts then you have a
southern accent. So the accent outside of New Orleans is
very traditional, very southern. But New Orleans, because of the port,
you have a little French, you have a little little Spanish,

(07:10):
you have a little native American. You have a little
bit of everything in there so that it's more so.
It's more similar to a Brooklyn accent than it is
a central Louisiana accent. Yeah, interesting, yeah, okay, very cool. Man. Well, again,
nice chatting with you. congrats on everything and go to
on with Mario DOT COM to learn about Anthony's efforts
in New Orleans. Thanks for taking the time to hang out, man,

(07:33):
so good to see you your two brother take care.
