Speaker 1 (00:00):
On with Mario a little bit. It's up you on
Maria Lopez joining me now on Zoom. From the new
musical A Week Away actress Bailey Madison. Welcome to the show, Bailey.
How are you. I'm good, it's good to be here.
Thanks for having me. Oh my pleasure. Where are we
speaking to you from today? I'm currently in l A. Yeah,
I'm my home in l A. I I just full disclaimer.
I've adopted a dog in quarantine and he seems to

(00:22):
always know when I have a Zoom call. So if
you hear from him, his name is Buzby. He's also
thrilled to be on the show. Buzzby is more than
welcome to crash and hang out. What kind of dog
is Buzby? You know, we're trying to figure that out.
He's a he's a full muttum. You know that his
mom was a beagle. Definitely a chihuahua. I keep that
on the d L because I feel like you say
chihuahua when people think he just barks all the time. Um,

(00:46):
he's got a lot of mixes to him. Yeah, but
he's great. I love him, got it. Well, there's always
a place in my heart for former child actors, being
that I was one growing up and you've been booking
rolls since you were two weeks old. Talk about a
crazy head start. Can you remember the time when you
weren't acting? That's really that's a great question. Um, I

(01:06):
actually can't know that was genuinely I was. I mean,
I feel very fortunate and very blessed. But but yeah,
most of most of my most of my childhood and
my fondest memories. Most of the time we're me on set.
But no, I can't recall. Give be honest, and are
you from l A originally or where you from? I'm

(01:27):
from Fort Laardale, so South Florida. So yeah, so born
and raised in Florida. And then from about like six
on um it was eleven months out of the year
kind of in a hotel room. But my mom refused
to move to l A. She was like, it's not happening.
So I ended up living at the Sheridan Universal Um
for like six months at one point because I was

(01:47):
working out here and I was like the eloise of
the Sheridan. I used to like check people in and
like I had my own drink at the bar. Surprised,
So we had you know, we had a good time there.
I'm about yards from the Sheriton Universal right here, Universal Studio,
so I'm very familiar with that. So the new musical
is out now a week away. What's it all about.

(02:10):
So it's about a boy who's kind of been in
and out of the foster care system, played by Kevin Quinn.
Both of his parents passed in a car accident, but
he's survived and he's basically just been getting in out
of trouble. And he's given the chance of either going
to Juvie at this point or attending summer camp um
and he chooses summer camp and he's kind of thrown

(02:30):
into this world where it happens to be a faith
based summer camp as well. And so he's completely fish
out of water in every single sense. And he meets
my character Avery and my dad runs the camp and
m and there's definitely seen you know, music comes along
with it. But it's about kind of realizing that you
have a family out there, whether by blood or not.
Seeing light at the end of the tunnel. And and

(02:51):
and just a story I think about friendship and not
you know, judging a book by its cover as well.
Great message I love the premise there, and it's got
a lot of original music I hear, and features a
lot of Christian standards, right different tists. Yeah, yeah, it does.
We're so fortunate. I mean, I'm a faith based person.
I've been very you know, vocal about that in my life,
that part of my heart. So I actually grew up

(03:12):
listening to a lot of these artists. So we have
Amy Grant and for kingan Country, STEVENS. Curry and Steven
Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith. Um, They've handed over some
of their classic, you know, songs that have just been
so timeless and touched so many hearts and in the
hopes of you know, having that nostalgic feeling for people
that know them, but then also reimagining and now introducing

(03:32):
these these songs to you know, a new generation. Good
for you, Good for you. We'll congrats on that. Looking
forward to checking that out. And also of the works
a horror movie called The Pool. What can you tell? Oh?
I love how you know that no one really knows
that Mario, Yes, let's talk about this. I'm thrilled. So
I I worked with Johannes Roberts on a on a

(03:53):
film called The Strangers Prey at Night had the time
in my life I do. I love seeing and dancing
thrill that I could finally check that off my back list.
But like cover me in blood and let me scream
and cry, and I'm like really stoked. I don't think
I can say anything about it. But but yeah it's
the pool and um you can guess it. We may
be in a pool. Okay, so and and that that's

(04:14):
all you can That's all you can tease us with,
right because secret uh and yeah, it just takes place
over the night. You know, some dogs are loose and
trying to think woods out there. It's only does it
take place in one night at night? Okay, good, good
good that day? Try you like that? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I always feel like I'm I'm trying to break it
down right here. All right. Um, you've already worked with

(04:36):
some of the biggest names in the game, Natalie Portman,
Jake Jillenhall, Bett Mittler. What's something you've learned from them?
Is there a common threader? No, so much. To be honest,
I feel like I, especially as I've gotten older and
I've been able to reflect back on, you know, conversations
or time with with these humans. Um, I've realized that
I was like a silent listener the whole time, and

(04:57):
so I learned so much just by genuinely being in
their presence. Um, I always say Katie home. She she
did not leave set without making sure that she at
least said good night to whatever crew member she could
lock her eyes on. UM, that's something I've taken with me.
You know, it takes a village, it takes in an
entire team to make something happen, and so UM, just
the respect on that end I admired so much. But

(05:18):
when I wrapped print of Guidance, Billy Crystal was my
grandfather and he gave me a rap gift and it
was it was a key with like my berth stone
on it, and he said to me, there are so
many doors you've already unlocked, Um, but you have so
many more to go find. So and we had just
like this discussion. He was like, look, doors are going
to close, but you'll find the right ones. And I
was twelve at the time, and obviously it meant a lot.

(05:39):
But I think now growing up in this business as
a twenty one year old navigating what this all looks
like for me, Um, trying to stick to my heart
who I am as well. Um, that has resonated with
me now more than ever. That's such great advice. I
love that story there. Um, you've been in two Megan
Trainer videos. I love Megan. What look I see she's

(06:01):
a mama. She is, she is, She's She's such a
sweetheart too. Um, do you have a favorite memory? We're
going there? Oh, I just love her. I just got
a text from her one day and she said, do
you want to do a music video of mine? And
I said, is this a joke? Yeah, of course, Megan,
And then she goes, Okay, amazing, I'm sending you the treatment.
You fall in love with like a giant Teddy bear
and then you get in a fight, but everything will

(06:21):
be okay. It's like great. So we flew to New
York and she could make it to your texting and
know it was just like she's I have to say,
she's just the most loveliest human being. Um, and her
and Darryl, her whole family are just like I mean,
I feel so grateful to be growing up in a
time where Megan Trainer and her family exists. They're the
real deal. Yeah, no, I agree with you. There. Before

(06:44):
I let you go, I want to put you on
the spot. Quick questions, quick answers. Okay, Bailey, I'm bad
at this, but yes, it's very easy. Do you have
a TV streaming recommendation right now? Yeah? Netflix, it's a
great streamer. You can check out a week away, a
show in particular. But I love it. I love that.
I love that answer, though, because you're right. I need

(07:05):
to be worth specific. There's lots of platforms now, you're right.
Netflix is solid. I've heard of them. Um favorite show,
Oh gosh, I'm boring. I watched like HDTV or they
have like the whole edit. They come in, they organize
your house. Oh I love that with all the plastic
bins and stuff like that. Okay, what's a song? You
know all the words too? Uh? Really? Any Taylor Swift song? Okay,

(07:28):
I'll be honest. It's like you could give me anything.
I could. Probably I could. I could go with it.
Celebrity crush growing up, Uh, it was Ryan Reynolds. He
was Actually that's a lie. Josh Hudgerson was my first crush.
He was my brother and British Tripathia and I wrote
him like a secret admirer letter and it was never
supposed to get to him, and it did get to him,
and I bawled my eyes out on set. Oh No, embarrassing, devastating. Yeah,

(07:52):
he told me a sad. He was like, I thought
it was sweet. I was like, this is terrible. It's great.
Who's your favorite person to follow on social media? Uh?
My sister. She's genuinely she's she's great and a mama
and has just as very open and I think is
a light in this world. Dog or cat person? Dog?

(08:14):
Sorry to the cats. Buzzby. What's up? Yeah? All time
favorite actor and actress all time? Your answer? Could you answer? Thought?
I would have to do like a mount Rushmore, you
know what I mean, like top four, Top four? Okay,
I like that. I like that. Um okay, So then
I would say, um, I'd say I would say Natalie

(08:37):
Portman also because I love her and I just think
she's brilliant. Um Uh, I'm gonna say. I'm gonna say
Leo because he's also been really nice to him. I
think he's brilliant. Right with you? With you so far? Yes? Um,
I can't think I mean um Oh, Sandra Bullock, I
love Sandra Bullock. Now I'm just going rom com. Now
I'm throwing camera Diaz in there and think Nancy Mys

(09:00):
movie and I'm thrilled. Nothing wrong with that. I like
your style right there. Well, meanwhile, we're going to watch
a week away available on your streaming recommendation platform Netflix.
But I made up that question that you asked me.
It was fantastic. Well, Bailey, thank you so much for
checking in. I look forward to meet you in person
one of these days. You as well. Have a go
and stay safety guys. Okay, on with Mario a little
