Speaker 1 (00:01):
Mario Lopez. It's up on Mario Lopez joining me now
on Zoom. Superstar makeup artists and podcast host Bobby Brown.
Welcome to the show, Bobby. How you doing. I'm great.
Nice to talk to you. Nice to talk to you too. Um,
you've just announced a new season of the podcast Important
Things with Bobby Brown. What what things are important to
you this season? Well, you know, the same things that

(00:23):
have been important to me all the years are even
more important now. And I think during the pandemic, a
lot of people changed and realized that the things that
mattered before don't really matter as much now. And so
what matters to me, of course, is my family. What
matters to me is my health. What matters to me
is having a positive attitude and just focusing on the

(00:47):
things that are right, not what's wrong. But also important
to me is to find out like can we bread?
Like like can you be a fitness person? Any bread?
Can you you know? What are the best worts or
pants if you're five foot tall? So a lot of
the people that I interview, there's like things I want
to know, Like I want to know from you how

(01:09):
many days a week do you exercise? Look at those arms.
I've never seen your arms before. Oh you're so sweet.
For me, first of all, I love all that content
and agree with you on all that. Well. For me,
I always say I kind of exercise more for for
sanity than vanity, just because I feel more awake in
the morning if I don't get up and do something.

(01:29):
And also it's a big d stressor, and in any
sort of anxiety I may have, it's just I can
kind of like exhale and then go about my day.
Everything else is going to be a little, uh, a
little easier. So on a personal level, that's that's why
I approach it um. But I love those topics. What
kind of guests are you having this season? Well, my
first guest is Giada de Laurentis, and I love her. Yeah,

(01:52):
I love her too. I've known her for a long time,
so a lot of these conversations are just like being
a fly in the wall, and that's kind of catching up.
I mean I even talked to her since really before
she got divorced or you know now that her daughter
who is like a teenager, and you know what it's
like reinventing yourself, because I've done it so many times
and we all have. You know, it's the big shift like, Okay,

(02:14):
that doesn't work, Let's do it this way. So you know,
it's just sharing with people that guys, anything is possible,
exactly right. I love that you've become a bit of
a TikTok star, which is not easy to do at
our age. What appealed to you about that platform? Well,
first of all, thank you very much. Not at our age.
I seem to be ten years older than most of

(02:35):
the people I work with, So I'm more than ten
years older than you. I'm sixty five, and I know
you're asking I am. I am freaking sixty five. You
are not fifty five. I don't even know if here
forty five? Yeah, no, no, I'm about to be forty nine. Okay,
all right, so you're you're getting there. But now he
got along with Also, I also realized, and you will

(02:56):
you will too, that age is not a deterrent where
used to think it was. Now it's like a benefit
because what I know, you know, it's a lifetime of knowledge,
and I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid if something doesn't
work out, I'll do something else. And the more people
we know, the more opportunity there is out there, and

(03:16):
it's like, sure, I'll try that. Why not? All right,
that didn't work, let me do it this way. And
I do think Mario, there's going to be a very big,
like ground swell of people of a certain age who
you know, realized like, yeah, I could do that. Why not?
I always wanted to do that. I agree with you.
We seemed to be of the same mindset and approach
things the same way. However, my knees and back would

(03:37):
respectfully disagree with you. That's the only thing because that'd
being so physical that does eventually catch up. Have you
found that your TikTok audiences has helped in uh, your
other endeavors? Well? Um, when I started on TikTok in January, um,
it quadrupled my business at Jon's Road Beauty And honestly

(03:59):
that was amazing until we had to deal with three
months of out of stocks, so because we didn't anticipate
this ground swell. But yeah, it absolutely has helped everything.
And and I didn't go on TikTok to be viral.
I just did it because someone said just go on.
And my first TikTok was, Hey, guys, I'm Bobby, what
do you want to know, and Mario, I couldn't believe it.

(04:20):
Most of the women that said, oh my god, you're here,
they were in their forties, they were in their fifties,
they were in their sixties, and they're like, yeah, we
need to know this. How do you do this? Like
it's everything from what now polish are you wearing? Too?
You know? Why did your hair look so shiny? Like
all the things that you struggle with. You need someone
to go to to say, Okay, how can I do this?
How can I feel better? Do you? Are you on

(04:43):
all the platforms Bobby, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and if
you are, is it the same content throughout you sort
of link them up or do you specify certain content
for certain platforms? Right well, right now, my chief marketing
officer is my second out of three sons. His wife
is my head of social media. That keeping the family

(05:05):
it is, we're keeping it in the family, and it's
it's really worked out. But I what I like to
do is to create content and then let them kind
of chop it up for different places because I don't
like to waste time and energy. But some things that
work on Instagram don't work on TikTok and place versa.
But now now Instagram is trying to become TikTok. So

(05:26):
I'm like, you know, guys come on like my beautiful
images that I loved, like on on my Instagram, Like
they don't they don't know one sees them anymore. They
got to stay in their lane. I know, it's exactly,
It's very frustrating. That's what I need. I need a guy.
I need a team to do the whole thing. You
need a kid or you need a kid, right exactly, Um,

(05:48):
I sart, you're training to get a degree in health coaching.
What what? What's a basic leeds a lesson in nutrition
that a lot of us are missing? You think, well,
I you know the reason I got into health coaching.
I've never done it professionally, but I'm someone that always
thinks that you could feel better, and I do believe
that health coaches are there to help everyone learn to

(06:08):
have a healthier life, because I swear to God, if
I didn't take care of myself from the inside out,
I wouldn't have the energy and I wouldn't be able
to do the things I do. So, you know, for me,
the most important thing and this made the biggest difference
in my life. It's intuitive eating. It's not just following
a program like I Literally I'm like, all right, I'm keto,

(06:29):
I'm paleo, I'm vegan, I'm vegetarian. Guess what, guys, I
don't stay in any of those things long because it
doesn't work. I'm intuitive. I eat a really good tomato
in August. Okay, I'm not gonna eat a tomato in
February because it's not gonna taste good. So just those
kind of things. And I have one drink and not
too because I don't feel good if I have to drinks.

(06:50):
So you know that's intuitive. Yes, I was with you
this whole conversation until the one drink not to. That's
my problem. Might be able to ring too, but I'm
a little person. Yes, no, I get it. I respect that.
I respect that. Congratulations on everything, Bobby, and listen to
important things with Bobby Brown on I Heart Radio or

(07:11):
