Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario Lopez. It's Mario Lopez joining me
now on Zoom. Actor, model, author and podcast your Brooke Shields.
Welcome to the show. Brook. How have you been? I'm good?
Thank you busy, I love it, I love it. Congrats
on the new podcast. Now what fun title? What what

(00:21):
inspired you to start this? It's a It's basically an
idea that I've had um for so long because the
things that I'm most interested in about people is how
they get through adversity and how they how they process
it and who picks themselves up and how they get

(00:42):
through And like if you just look at even the
most successful people that you can ever imagine, you know,
we think, oh it's been easy, or oh they were
born like that, or and all of them, I don't
care who you are, they've fallen. They didn't get into
that college they wanted to, They got a divorce, they
got a diagnosis, they got you know, uh, they got

(01:04):
a job that they didn't feel prepared for, or and
There's so many now what moments in people's lives and
I'm just fascinated by them. So I pitched it to
my heart and I said, I'd love to talk to
people about their not what moments and what they did
to get through. You're absolutely right, everyone has had one. Um,
what would you say has been the biggest pivot now

(01:26):
what moment in your life? Oh? Wow, I mean I
feel like I've had so many. And that's the sort
of That's that we talked about this a lot on
on the podcast. It's that these now what moments start
when you're a little kid. You know, when you get
bullied or you get made fun of, or you know,
you your parents get divorced or you know. So I
think I had them forever. Um, I think sort of

(01:50):
hitting this stage of my life, my kids are grown. Um,
the biggest now what moment I think is, well, I
broke my femur about a year and a half ago.
I had to learn how to walk again. So that
was a big now what moment? But what I did
this era of my life has felt like a big
not what moment. You know, you're not and not the

(02:12):
all genue anymore, but you're not, you know yet in
geriatric You're sort of in this in this realm that
there feels like there's so much more to do. And
I started my own company called Beginning Is now and
that was a huge now what moment and it continues
to be one. And it's for women over forty who
were starting new chapters in their lives, you know. And

(02:35):
I'm excited, but we're told we're done, you know, once
your ovaries don't work enough, they're going to put us
out to pasture. And all the women I know, you know,
my age or my age bracket, um, are all just
have so much more life to live. I feel like women, um,
people in general I think are just taking care of
themselves a lot better. We're obviously living longer and looking

(02:58):
at you look fantastic. Um. So that's great all this uh,
this work you're doing in that particular space. And and
aside from the podcast itself, you're also in the new
HBO Christmas movie Holiday Harmony. What's what's your role in
that one? I play? Um, get ready, it's typecasting. Um,
I play an auto mechanic who raises out aacas. Well

(03:22):
look at that, that's really I was the first choice
that came into their line. Let's yeah, a no brainer.
Um yeah, they just they said, do you want to
play this? You know Oklahoma springs kind of no nonsense woman,
who's you know, in overalls and work boots and and uh.
And it's just it's such a sweet story and such

(03:45):
a sweet movie. I wasn't going to really do another
Christmas movie for a while because I did one last
year and it was so much fun and that on
that clots and um. But then I read it and
it was just so sweet and it was so cute,
and I just think, especially this time in the world,
I don't know, just sort of fun, mindless sweet. Yeah,

(04:05):
it's just it's just sort of like, um, hot cocoa.
I agree, I agree, I've been there. I love it. Um.
And also in the works a comedy called out of Order?
What can What can you tell us about that? Oh?
That's a very funny. It's a funny. It's been a
long time in the making. And um. It's about this
young man who basically has to argue two sides of

(04:30):
a litigation in court. And I'm I'm run the company
and I'm one of the I'm one of the lawyers,
and he is he's he basically has to play two
different characters at the same time, and he has to
argue against himself, and just the physicality of it. It's
really quite funny. But I play like a hard hitting

(04:51):
lawyer who is just you know, can't believe I'm dealing
with this guy is so crazy and just so unprofessional,
and and yet you know I hired him, so I
have to witness his bad behavior. But keep them going.
Look at the range. You're an attorney, your mechanic. You're
raising alpacas. I'm telling you, Um, that's the fun thing

(05:12):
about being an actress is you know, one day you're
in a power suit, in the next day or in overalls,
third all over you right, you know, hurting alpacas. Exactly
what what are you doing for the holidays? By the way,
are you sticking around or is l a home or
are you east coast? We're East coast. Yeah, we're East
Coast and have been. I mean I was born and

(05:34):
raised here, so uh. We moved the kids back when
I was doing Whipstick Jungle and then just we never
went back, huh and raised my kids in the city
and we'll be here. Yeah. I think we may go
see Christmas parents for a few days. But basically New
York all the way, love it. And you have one
child in wake Forest, congratulations, and one is a junior

(05:57):
in high school. Junior in high school. Okay, uh, and
what are they into? Are they are they into? Do
they have any interest in the entertainment industry? Here? One
of them, UM, wants to be a broadcast journalist, so
she wants to be in sort of in that in
that realm. She's studying communications and journalism. And then um

(06:18):
and my younger one is very interested in modeling. Okay,
So more I'm gonna, you know, do my best protect
her and help her. And but she's going to college.
But she's got she's got the perfect person guiding her
right there. That's awesome, you know a little bit about
both exactly exactly. It's fun, right, it goes by quick,

(06:40):
but it's fun. It does and it and it is.
I mean, I had such a wonderful college experience. You know,
I don't think she would want a typical college experience.
I think she probably wants to stay in the city. Um,
she's much more a city girl than really my other daughter.
But you know, you try to listen to them and
not imposed to much of you think they should be,

(07:03):
and rather find out who they are. Yeah. No, you're right,
You're right. It's not easy. I mean, it's so much
you know you think that when you have kids that
they are they are you, and they're not. No, no,
You're yeah. I'm learning that. I got a few myself,
so I I can feel you on that. Um well,
congratulations on everything. Very nice speaking with you. I hope
I get to see you in person, uh sometime soon
And you can listen to now What on I Heart
