Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario Lopez and Mario Lopez joining me
now on Zoom the newest Bachelorette, Charity Lawson, Welcome to
the show. How you doing, Charity.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I am doing as good as I can be. I'm
excited to be here.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Got a big smile, tells me you're happy. So we'll see.
We'll get into all that a little bit later. Did
you hesitate it all when they asked you to be
the lead for.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Season twenty, Yeah, I mean I definitely was like thinking
of all the things.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I'm like, could this work out? Could this not work out?
What could go?
Speaker 3 (00:32):
I'm sorry, just thinking of all the worst things possible.
What what am I really signing up or agreeing to?
But ultimately, I think like my excitement definitely overrided all
of that, and I was so thrilled. That's why you
see just like my response, initially it was just pure emotions.
I was overwhelmed in the best way. But I'm super
excited to step in the role as the next bachelorette.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Are you happy with the guys that they found for you.
Did the producers ask if you had a particular type?
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Yeah, definitely did get asked that, So I'm glad I
had some say in it because I have an exceptional
group of men, like all incredibly attractive, great careers, great personalities,
which we'll see a lot more of. But yeah, I
don't really have a type, I will say, so I
kind of gave them that autonomy to do whatever they
(01:21):
wanted to with that.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
But they did. They did great.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
So the cast has a James, a Joe, Joey, two John's,
and a Josh right there.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Three calebs.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
I guess was it a struggle with the names to forget?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Actually?
Speaker 3 (01:41):
No, Like I think I I really remember memorized everyone's
name night one, like out the limit, I had them
all like memorized photographic memory.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Okay, okay, last night Braydon made his move, but then
he kissed and told Was that a good look you
think or part of the show?
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yeah, I personally she did not really like that he told.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
But also a part of me was like, Okay, Braden's age,
he's a little younger, so I was trying to like
translate and make sense of like why he was reacting
that way. I think he just was really excited. But
definitely it turns into something that gets a little blown
blown out of proportion, so you see, obviously a lot
of the guy's egos were bruised. Aaron b was very vocal,
(02:29):
Sean was very vocal about it, had lots to say,
So keep your eyes on those three.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Yeah, I bet. Obviously the goal is to have a
real conversations and connections, but there's cameras everywhere, So how
do you overcome those obstacles? And do they still have
a lot of liquor flowing or has that been pulled back?
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Definitely a lots of that, but it's always it's always helpful.
I think, Yeah, with my time on last season with
Zach definitely helped me get incredibly acclimated to the cameras
and you know, it constantly being in your face, especially
like you know, I think the biggest adjustment for the
guys is like, oh gosh, there's a camera while we're
like making out.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
That was definitely like interesting to see them adjust to.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
But for me, I came in like already having that
little advantage, I would say, so my responsibility in these
moments was definitely just to like help the guys feel
a little bit more comfortable and try to like just
focus a lot on the connection and kind of tune
that out.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Obviously, they're very they're very nervous Night one.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
It takes some time, but as the season goes, you'll
see a lot of the guys open up and their
personality start coming out more, which is all I can
truly ever ask for.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Are you gonna be watching the season live each week
or or do you avoid watching yourself altogether?
Speaker 2 (03:44):
I will be watching them.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
We'll be watching live, and you'll get some live reactions
all those things.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Yeah, are are you I'm assuming you watch the show. Yeah,
I don't know how many years been on and you're
and you were a fan. Are there any lessons from
past seasons that you want to make sure you were
you were mindful of?
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
I think the biggest one for me.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Obviously, Like, you know, it's TV, and I think you
know the show is to a certain degree centered around
a little bit of drama, which is it's nice, But
really didn't want that to become like the main storyline
or narrative of like my season. Like I really like
knew why I was coming in here for, which was
to hopefully find my person and so yeah, I really
wanted to showcase everyone's story, the conversations that I have
(04:29):
with the guys were incredibly powerful and I think will
resonate with the viewers. And then also like something as
crazy as like Zach season last season, you know, the
whole fantasy suite week.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Turning into sex week.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
I was like, yeah, we're not doing that, Like we're
not going in with that approach. So definitely taking a
different stand so when when we get to that corner.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
So yeah, just lots of.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Lessons, but overall it'll probably follow the same format as
similar seasons before.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Yeah, that part's always tripped me out, especially being a
father of myself. Oh what's your family think about this
whole process?
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah, it's very interesting. That's an interesting week.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Yeah, does your family are they were they supported from
the get or do you have to convince them a little? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (05:19):
I mean my my family is like they're so supportive.
They were supportive last season. I think it was a
lot easier to considering, like me saying yes to being
the bachelorette.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
They just ultimately trust me.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
They know like the daughter that they raised, really close
with my siblings, so they're they're like not worried about me.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I think more so it's like, how are these men
about to act. But yeah, no, they're all good. Where
are you from. I'm from Columbus, Georgia, so southern.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Okay, no no accent though, okay, no accent.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Okay, you're the first to tell me that I can't.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
You could have been you could have said l A.
I wouldn't have been able to.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Oh great, because I feel like I get my accent
gets questioned all the time.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Really, I couldn't.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Oh no, because you're like a TV veteran now, so
you're aware. Well, good luck, hope you found your person
and you're happy. Meanwhile, you can watch a Bachelorette Mondays
on ABC and Charity. Hopefully we'll see in person soon hopefully.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Wow with Mario Lopez
