new podcast Sex Lies and Spray Tans.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
Dancer and model Cheryl burg welcome. Hey, what do yeah?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Yeah, I went?
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Where did that come from? Let me do that again?
Let me do you not want me to say that?
Speaker 1 (00:19):
That's what model is wondering?
Speaker 3 (00:24):
All right, I'll give you another one. I didn't know
if you're starting to do some buzz, all right, trying
to show you love. All right, here we go, Take two.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Mario Lopez joining me now on Zoom for the new
podcast Sex Lies and Spray Tans.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
My girl, Cheryl Burke, Welcome to the show, Cheryl.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
How are you great? How are you?
Speaker 3 (00:44):
I'm well.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I love the title sex Lies and Spray Tans.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Great name for the pod. So what made you want
to start it?
Speaker 1 (00:52):
I mean, it's just like the summary of what Dancing
with the Stars is all about, right, Maria, catchy actually
a title for the record.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
I never spray tand never spray tend.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
And those simples were not painted on, They're.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Real, thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
But you know, Dancing with the Stars has been a
big part of my life, has been almost half my life,
and Uh, it has been an interesting journey since retiring
that like to say that I'm not a grieving would
be alive. But it's also obviously I left, you know,
because I felt like it was time, but still to
not talk about everything and to not have the celebrities
(01:30):
and co dancers on. You know, when you get eliminated,
though you have never experienced this yourself, but when you
get eliminated, you get the boot, you get a great
like big group hug, you go to New York, you
do press, and then no one ever talks about it again.
And I have to say, like even from I had
my first guest was Trista Sutter from the very first
Bachelorette and the very first celebrity to be kicked off
(01:50):
Dancing the Stars in general, she still has feelings and
like she wants to be able to talk about it.
And it's so interesting also with like Sharna and Max
so far, just the stuff I can get these people
to say. I mean, I'm not getting them to say anything.
They're saying answering the questions, but I think they're a
little too comfortable.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Well that's a good sign of being a good host.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
And I think it's very clever for you to do this,
because yeah, once you are eliminated, you're you're never to
be heard from.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Again in this space. And it's interested.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
It's interesting to hear their takes the journey and how
it was for them.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
So I think it's cool. And obviously you've got endless
amount of tests that you can have. Who have you
had on the show so far?
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Well, I mean, we're going to have you, so that's obvi.
But we had Christa Sutter, we had just Utter, we
have Tom Bergron coming up here in a couple of weeks,
Adam Racon, Brook Bork who won the Stars with Derek
and became the co host, Maxim Schmerkovsky, Sharon and Burgess.
I mean, the list goes on and on, Janna Kramer,
(02:58):
those types of people.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Good for you, good, good for you.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Ro Lopez, what do you think is the biggest part
behind the scenes that fans don't really get to see.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
I think it's I mean, look the packages. I've always
said that it's not really so much about the dancing,
is it. It's more about the journey and the packages
prior to the actual live dance. But it's just a short,
little I guess summary of what was the most entertaining
thing that happened that week, and then they just make
it a story. But really, I think what people don't
understand is what really goes behind this machine, because it
(03:34):
is a machine of a show, and I'm in so
much gratitude for what the show has given me, and
I'm not here to batten out the show by any means.
I know there's been a little controversy about it because
I would assume because of the title, but that's just
the title. If you listen to the podcast, you know
it's just us talking about our experiences. And this again
has played such a huge part of my life. It
(03:55):
would be a shame for me just to leave it,
leave all these memories in my head.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
I'm not sure with our loyal fans, absolutely, are you
keeping up with the current season? When you weren't on it,
did you continue to watch it?
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Well, you know, no, not in the past, but I
think it is my job now to watch it. But
I have to say last night was the premiere and
I listened to heres because of len good men that
tribute and also in general, like, if anything, I think
this is a sign that I need to like feel
my feelings instead of run away from them as I
normally would. But it was great to see everybody. I honestly,
(04:29):
I already have my top three, but you're gonna have
to listen to the podcast because that's just what it is.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
That's a seize, all right.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Looking back, Cheryl, do you have a favorite season or
most memorable season?
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Season three would be an amazing season.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
I think so anything, I think so.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
I mean that's when you got to experience your boy.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
I mean, damn, that would be memorable.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Generally speaking, a show peaks in its third season if
you look at it. You look at shows historically, whether
it be sitcoms or drama, generally.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
They peak at the third season.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
So I just coincidentally happened to have been in the
third season and dancing with Starge.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
You peaked.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
I peaked. That's it. So went after that.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
I mean, actually, remember Mario, I don't know if you
remember that, we got Super Bowl ratings.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, literally, no, you're right, we had incredible rate That's
what I'm saying. Peak wise, like the ratings wise and
all the shows breaking bats pranos, all of them, and
you know that was I don't know when they stopped
doing it. But when we did it on season three,
the finals.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Were just two people. How they should be all of
a sudden, there's like four people in the finals. The
hell's that? It's not fine. They started adding more people,
asking more people.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Six thousand couples show, Like last night there was fourteen couples. Look,
they had Donnie ausmind with sixteen coups. It is long.
I thought I thought streaming there was no commercial because
when did they add commercials? Like this is not okay? Yeah,
two and a half hours to watch the show. Like
I was like completely asleep by the time Arianna dance,
(06:08):
you know, But honestly, yeah, you're right, Like we had
thirty five million view actually thirty five million people watching
the finale season three.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
That's amazing.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
The reason why I think it's not because of the numbers,
it's honestly because in the beginning of a show that
you just have no idea what's going to happen. Me
and Tom Berjon would say this when we did Larry
King live recipes. But we were saying, I was like,
how much longer do you think this is going to last?
And He's like, probably season four or five. It's on
season thirty two, you know. And it's crazy because we
(06:41):
have people who have watched the show from when they
were a kid, which makes ages me, but they were like,
you know me, my grandma loved it. Now I am
an adult and I have kids and we all want
and it's pretty nostalgic. Now you know the show and
it's been awesome to be a part of it.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
No, absolutely television history right there. So that's great that
you're you're able to do this, Cheryl. What what else
is keeping you busy? What's going on in the in
the social part of your life?
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Don't don't want social?
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Would you mean don't don't want.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
There's such thing? I was not, just like only work
and that's it. Yeah. No. As far as my life
being balanced, I wouldn't say I have much of it.
But I just moved. I'm living in a completely different
I don't know if I didn't tell you now on
social I didn't tell you.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
I saw you on social media. I saw on social
media that you just moved. You're still in La though,
but you.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Know you're not aware and I'm not gonna I can't
say it until we're off the air.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Why did you choose to leave LA?
Speaker 1 (07:40):
I don't find Los Angeles to be healthy for my
for my soul, Okay, really, like if I don't have
to be on set every week, like you know, maybe
it's the pandemic that affected the fact that I knew
that I could work elsewhere, like I didn't really have to.
You know. I believe that wherever you land your home,
that has to give that feeling of peace and ease
(08:02):
or else it affects the workplace, you know. And La
and then that house reminded me of a lot of history,
and it just was time. I lived in that house
for like sixteen years, yes, the time.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
You know, because you're originally from northern California, right from
the Bay, Yeah, the Bay from the Bay, which is
a world of difference from down here.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
So you date anyone, yes, no one to brag about, okay,
no one to bring around, all right. No one's special
at the moment.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Look, everyone's special.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
No one special to you at the moment.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
No one's special enough to be like it's a facial.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Right right right.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Okay, Now I'm an open bookmorrow you'll know first though,
before you're fans on this the radio show.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Okay, fair enough, open those blinds so we can figure
out where you are.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Yeah, see the skyline blind?
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Yes? Yes?
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Why enjoy keeping up with you share all on social
and I'm sure people enjoy listening to sex lies and
spray tans on iHeartRadio or wherever you get your pods.
