Speaker 1 (00:00):
Fun. What's Mario a little bit? It's up Mario Loveez
joining me now on Zoom. Grammy nominated artist man Chris Daughtry,
Welcome back to the show, buddy. How you been. What's up?
How are you? I'm doing well. I'm doing well. The
beard game is strong. Huh, thank you man, You've got
no hold. We've had a lot of had a lot
of time to work on it. Yeah, that's right. Uh,

(00:21):
congrats on the new album, dearly beloved big rock Sound,
which I'm digging. What what inspired the songs for you
on this one? Uh? You know there was no shortage
of things to write about, that's for sure. Um, I
think uh. We we started working on this record November
of two thousand nineteen, and then you know, the world
took a weird turn in February and everything just kind

(00:47):
of started making its way into the lyrics. I'm usually
not want to really write about current events, but it
was kind of hard not to write about how things
were making me feel and impacting me on a on
a personal level. So uh, and and the sound. You know,
this is the record that I wanted to make for
a very long time. You know, now that I'm an

(01:09):
independent artist. I didn't have all these other voices, you know,
uh informing me on you know, we gotta write this,
we gotta you know, we gotta you know, we gotta
you know, cater to this format or we gotta you know,
we gotta do what this man is doing to stay
you know, to keep up and stay relevant. And then
you know, I was I went into it going what

(01:30):
do I want to do? What kind of record do
I want to make? And I was listening to records
that made me I want to do this in the
first place, you know, when I was a teenager, like
Sound Garden, super Unknown and Bad motor Finger and Live
Throwing Copper, you know, those records in the nineties that
made me want to be a musician in the first place.

(01:50):
And I was like, wow, am I not making that
type of record, you know, And and it just kind
of went from there that that's a fun, fun era
right there. Lift to it, and you know we don't
have that sound man, It's uh, it's missing right now,
so so good for you trying to bring it back,
That's what I'm saying. Well, the new single is heavy
is the crown Um kind of sums up everything. You're

(02:12):
just describing right now, right, Yeah, yeah, I mean I
think I think we all you know, if that song
just I think everyone feels I mean, life is hard, right,
life is just for anyone. Just to wake up in
the morning sometimes is a task, you know, but like
when you're trying to like carve your own path and

(02:32):
do your own thing, you you can't help but feel
that the weight of the world on your shoulders and
the pressures that come along with that. Um. But also
just trying to be a good father and trying to
be a good you know, friend or husband, and uh,
you know, I I think a lot of people can
relate to it. What about the music videos, they seem

(02:52):
to have a superhero theme going on. There is there
a connection there, you know. When when we first started
uh this record, I always had this idea of having
some videos kind of connect and being cinematic and um.
And when we shot World on Fire, it just felt

(03:13):
like this post apocalyptic thing. And at the end of
the video, I was like, oh, I knew where the
next video needs to go. And I started just coming
up with this idea like, oh, maybe we have superpowers
or whatever. It was a lot of fun and we
uh you know, it was. It was you you quickly
realized when you're not on a record label how much
a video costs. That one that one was that was

(03:36):
that was a pretty penny. But it was a lot
of fun. It was. It was something kind of I've
always wanted to do and my love for comic books
that kind of made its way in there. Sure, no
good for you. Um what about live shows? Are you
gonna be hitting the road anytime soon? Yeah? Yeah, we
got a tour lined up. We hit the road in
November with seven Dust and Tremonti. We're actually playing the
Novo December six, I believe here in l A. So

(04:01):
good for you. Um, you know, hope and everything sticks,
you know, we're really excited to get back out there. Nice. Yeah,
I bet there's nothing like that. Uh, having that energy
feedback because those absolutely those zoom shows. You know, you
can only you can only take so much of those
right there? What about the twins? Old are the twins now?

(04:21):
They will be eleven in November? So what what? What
I know my daughters listening to you have boys? Right well,
I've I've all I know you have a bunch of them.
What are they listening to? Like? What are the eleven
year olds listen twenty one Pilots man? They love twenty
one Pilots like that's every morning I'm taking them to school.

(04:43):
That's all they want to hear here. They love Daughtry.
They at least they tell me they do. I don't know.
Maybe maybe they're just trying to make me feel good.
But but they have twenty one Pilots Is there? Is there? Jam?
Very good? Um? Are they going to join you on tour?
Are you you leaving the kids? I don't. They have school,
They're they're back in school now, so they're they've got

(05:05):
they've got their work cut out for him. They're already
crying about homework and everything. I don't want to put
them behind anymore. Yeah, I get it. And where is
home for you? Now? Are you out here in the
West coast? Are you down nash Nashville? Down to Nashville? Okay,
I've been there. We're in Nashville. We've been there for
about five a little over five five years now. Okay, Yeah,
you like it? I do? I do? I like I

(05:28):
like that I can afford to live there exactly. What's
the big music scene too? Yeah? Yeah, and it worked
out great for the you know, my producers lived there.
It worked out great for the making of this record, um,
and for the you know, during the pandemic, I was
able to do a virtual tour. There's a cool club
there that we used called Mercy Lounge, and we just

(05:50):
set up there every day and did virtual shows. You know. Yeah,
so yeah, it works out for the day job for sure.
Good for you, man. Well, congratulations on everything. You can
listen to Dearly Beloved on I Heart Radio or wherever
you get your podcast. Chris, thanks for checking in, man.
Congrat thank you for having me. Mario. I'm good to
see you you too. Well, take care alright, work on
