Speaker 1 (00:01):
Mario Littlepez. Y'all Mario Lopez joining me now on Zoom
from Messing Down in the news series Buzz Down. Chris Red,
welcome to show my man. How are you man? I'm
good man, image make a dude and I only did
one interview. Is for you, Mari Yo for you. Hey,
that's my man, that's my man. All love right there.
(00:21):
I appreciate that. Now I know you're you're in Jamaica
at the moment. Where you're from originally from Chicago kind of.
I was born to St. Louis and I came I
came up in Chicago and my family's Mississippi. Shout out
to the sea up. Okay, get them all a little love,
you know what I mean. So, Chris Man, I gotta
get your opinion because it's been on the news. People
have been talking about it now for a few days
(00:42):
and a lot and some people I can't believe. Some
people actually think this was fake. And of course I'm
talking about Will Smith smacking Chris Rock over a joke.
What are your thoughts on that? First of all, you
can't fake that face met you. You heard the face
meat get smacked. You heard the contact. You can't fake
(01:05):
that sound. That's a special sound. Only people who have
been smacked with folk heard a smack like his smack was.
That was ali will that kind of the range and emotion.
And you can also tell Chris Rock has been smacked
before because that's the way he took the smack. He
took it like pou all right. But I'm funny though,
and that was like that was quintessential like everything. Look,
(01:27):
I get the joke was a bad joke. I think
I think it hurts worse. I think it heard Chris
Rock worse that he that his g I Jane joke
didn't land more than the smack because it was a
bad joke all around. Now you know what I mean,
respect for Chris because my guy's got a chin, and
like you said, uh took it like a champ. I
(01:49):
didn't actually think the joke was that over the line
to be well, obviously the dean that sort of reaction.
It wasn't like they were talking about the open relationship,
which ironically um Regina Hall sort of intimated to earlier.
He didn't have an issue with that. Maybe that helped
build up the frustration that led to the I think
that's that's what I was gonna stay when you as
(02:11):
as somebody who's dealing with who's been an import? Look,
I have I've had at issue my whole life. I've
dealt with like the impulse that the impulse control. I
hear the impulse control issue. Well did Like, yeah, be mad,
but there was many ways you could have handled it better. Probably,
But like if you're that imposed him over a joke
like that, stay at home. Y'all got a lot of
stuff going on in the home. You know what I'm saying.
(02:32):
A lot of ships been in the streets, and I
think that they were. He was just too on the
edge to be outside. Like you know, if if I
if I'm feeling in that froggy, I'm not going to
the store dog because I know anybody who don't got
my chips I might met real fast. You know, mandos,
theydn't even work. Like stay home for a little bit, man,
(02:53):
you know you got too much ship on your chest. Sorry,
stay at the crib exactly. You're exactly right. I totally
agree with you. Man. Well we're moving on. Congratulations on
the new show. Tell us, uh what bust down is
all about. Bus Down is a hard comedy and involves
Uh for friends me Sam j Jack Knight and Lanks
(03:15):
to Kerman and we're working at the day casino and uh,
Freddy Gibbs, the rapper and amazing actor, is also our
HR person and we just get into like different different Uh,
we just get into everything. Man. Like the first episode
we hit the ground running. We created a very silly
world with with very weird characters, um of all of
(03:36):
all black types alike. And we talk about some of
the hard some hardcore issues with some of the light
heartiness of everyday conversation. Man, you know it's it's great.
I like this review. Tell me if you agree with it.
This show is a definition of doing hood rats stuff
with your friends. Would see, I want to watch hood
(03:58):
rat stuff with your friends, But you don't gotta luck
right right, I get you now. Lauren Michaels produces a
lot of these uh projects from S ANDL castmates. Did
you have to pitch the show directly to him? No?
Luckily we did not, because it was pretty impossible to
pitch it at first. It was just all it was
us going like to exact room to exact room, like
(04:19):
riffing and being like buy it. You know what I mean? Right,
so why it took it took about five and a
half years to get to where it is now. But
by the time we had actually um one of the
deals we had, we had lost one of our deals,
like the very last one, and Lauren saved our show,
so he ended up putting them down. So we were
able to make the first first season and and so
(04:42):
we think we think big al for that because now
it's out and we get to just make silly stuff.
You know, good for you. It's the season too, you
know that's right? Um well, also in the works for you,
spinning Gold. Uh. It sounds like a seventies period piece,
my favorite era. What can you tell us about that? Man,
there's there's like there's like everybody's in this thing and
(05:04):
it's his passion project of the director. I did that
so long ago. Um, but I remember just I remember
having a lot of fun in a in a little
fro and I don't want to I get the studio
with I think it was Jason Drulo with some other
folks and bro. I mean, the castlest is crazy for
this thing. But but yeah, I'm excited to see it too.
(05:24):
It's been it's been some years since we shot that
so I'm gonna be watching what y'all like. Damn, this
one pretty good. Um, I know you work with Pete Davidson.
Uh so I'm sure insight what what makes on me
so popular these days? You know, my man's been pounding
the payments and in the cover scene and all that.
(05:45):
So now since he was what sixteen years old, he's
just he's a cool guy, got a good heart, funny
and he just knows himself. And we and were that
way and you work, you know what I mean, Like, Yeah,
you're gonna you're gonna create good things. Now there's some
stuff going on a piece life. I can't I couldn't
tell you, man, you know I can't. I can't tell
you why. I asked Royd hits Hits, the hits, hit
(06:09):
the Moon that I can't tell you much. Certain things
that happened in his life that impressed me. I'm like,
know what, they ain't none but god man, So you know,
I think a little bit of all that. I think
it's a little bit of luck, a little a lot
bit of talent than just being a good dude. Yeah,
here's a nice guy. I agree. Um, before you go,
I want to put you on the spot, quick questions,
quick answers. Okay, yeah, what's the song? You know all
(06:30):
the words too? Oh? Forgot about dre Okay, a lot
of words in that one too. All time favorite comic,
he said, what? All time favorite comic? All time favorite
comic Richard Pryor. Uh I got slash it with Dave Chappelle. Okay,
celebrity crush, growing up, hands down? Go to cocktail old
(06:58):
fashioned with bourbon. Uh yeah, a classic guy, Mario Lopez,
I am ad at that. If you play Kanye in
the biopic, who are you casting to play Kim k
oh o? Huh Kim k I like that this one.
(07:19):
You give them the most thought too, right. I know.
I'm because I'm like, oh, this is sober me so
and I'm like, oh, don't you cat maybe? Okay, yeah
she does see Flynn. She's pretty too. Um listen watch
