Speaker 1 (00:01):
With Maria Lopez, Mario Lopez or even now on Zoom
from the Netflix show Billing Empire, New York. Dorothy Wang,
Welcome to the show, Dorothy. How are you hi? I'm good?
How are you? I'm wow? Thank you? Uh? Did you
watch Rihanna's halftime show? Would you think? Of course? I
was like, the only reason why I even went to
(00:21):
like the Super Bowl viewing thing. Um, I loved it.
I think in the beginning, everyone was like, is she pregnant?
Is she not? Because you don't want to you don't know,
you know what I mean. And everyone is trying to
be super respectful because she's the queen. No one's going
to be like, oh, she's pregnant. She ends up not pregnant.
But you know, I think that I watched it a
couple of times, and I could watch in the privacy
(00:42):
of my own home. I realized how crazy the the
thing she's standing on and everything, And I feel like
it's such a feat that she was even able to
stand on those platforms without freaking out or do anything,
let alone sing and dance and like come on the stage.
They're not afraid of heights, that's for sure. But now
(01:02):
a little That's what I tweeted. I said, we all
learned one thing today, Erihanna is not afraid of HI exactly.
Um I did? I did? I thought it was cool.
I mean, so many hits. Huh. They asked you to
join the original Billing Empire a few times, but you've declined,
I know in the past. Um, why was this series
a good match for me? I just felt like the
(01:24):
l A one didn'teel authentic to me, and I felt
that it was kind of a redundant story, like I
was on because of Beverly Hills. Everyone has already seen
me run around l A with a group of friends,
so didn't really make sense for me to do that.
But when they offered me just kind of start my
own thing in New York, that became interesting to me
because I could kind of place my real friends. It's
(01:45):
I was actually planning to move before they even asked me,
So it just felt right, and it just felt like
it was like a new story and a new transition
for me to tell. Do you think it's easier to
meet someone in New York? What's the what's the dating
scene like there? I do feel like it's easier to
meet people in New York just in general the social scene.
I feel like it's just way more popping than in
(02:05):
l A and l A. Everyone so spread out and
there in their houses In New York, like you can
meet someone going to the laundry, matter, going to the market.
Like there's so much contact with so many people all
the time. And everyone here we're always out and about.
Like everyone in l A likes to be in the
comfort of their home or like, oh I have a
seven am spin class, Like no one's wanted to do anything.
In New York. Everyone is out doing stuff all the time,
(02:28):
so you just end up meeting new people all the time.
I agree with you, absolutely. Have you ever lived here before?
I met my wife in New York, So you're right,
really it worked out that way. What's what's your relationship
status currently? Um, I'm seeing someone, not someone that that
was featured on the show, but yeah, I'm dating nice Nice.
(02:50):
Do you miss anything about the West Coast? I miss here, Juan,
I miss going on hikes. I miss my families, and
my parents are still there. I go back to the
holidays and stuff, but honestly nothing else really, Like I've
gotten used to the kind of bare bone more ruggedness
of New York, Like I don't even blink twice as
(03:13):
someone who's an open a door for me anymore. Like
I'm used to it right right. What's been the reception
to the show so far? I've been really happy because
like I'm always walking out and about New York, and
like so many New Yorkers have stopped me, and especially
if being fashioned weekend going to events and stuff, like,
so many people have stopped me, and they really really
love the show. And I think that people that watch it,
(03:36):
like they really enjoy it and they really love it.
It's not just like they're tuning in, but like, oh
my god, what's the next season? We love this? Are
you still doing this? Like how's this person? Like everyone
feels so involved in it. So I've been getting good
reception on the show. But also maybe I saw some
of my other castmates and they were like, how are
you doing? How are you handling everything? And I was like,
(03:57):
is there anything something bad about me that I'm this thing?
Because I a't we hearing like I mean, obviously there's
comments and people that you're not everyone's cup of tea,
But I don't know if I've just been doing this
for a long time, So I'm like, oh, like it's
I've developed a thicker skin. But I just be like,
overall people are enjoying the show, and like, I don't
really care so much about like, oh my god, everyone
(04:20):
needs to like me or everyone needs to agree with
everything that I do. I just wanted it to be
an entertaining show for everyone to watch. Do you know
if you'll be returning for season two? So do? They
don't tell us? Um they like to like Netflix obviously
have all the analytics and stuff. They usually don't um
tell us until a month after, so they let it
(04:40):
run for a month and then they take it everything
And UM, I know you're passionate about travel. What's uh?
What's your agenda for the rest of I actually have
nothing planned. I've had a busy couple of weeks, and
I'm really excited because after this week, I kind of
am gonna take a break and then figure out like
the next place I want to go. I want to
(05:02):
try something. I was thinking maybe Bodrum. Have you ever
been Turkey? Um, so I've heard that, like maybe for
the summer. I don't know. I recently actually, more locally,
I want to palm be troum the first time at
a wedding and bombie Florida, and it was that it
was so nice, water was beautiful and it was so warm.
(05:23):
So sometimes maybe you don't really have to travel so far.
You can like explore different things within the US. I agree,
you can find great things within your own city sometimes
that you haven't been to, you know. And that's that's
also the thing about living in New York that's so nice,
is that there's so many new things for me to try.
Like sometimes I'll even leave a vacation early, but and
make sure I'm back in New York for the weekend,
(05:45):
which is actually a nice feelings. Like like when I
lived in l A, when we came back from trips,
would all be so depressed and we had to play
on the next trip. But here like I wake up
every day excited to be here, excited to explore more.
Very nice to me, your Dorothy, and hopefully you get
to meet in person. Meanwhile, you can watch Bulling Empire
(06:05):
New York on Netflix. Thanks for hanging out, Dorothy, and
good luck out there. Thank you all right, take care
sweet you too. On with Mario Lopez
