Speaker 1 (00:00):
Come on Torio a little bit. Mario Lopez joining me
now on Zood Comedian actor, my man, Gabriel Lassie. How's
welcome back to the show. Brother. How you doing? I'm
doing fantastic, bro, Just hanging out here. You know, I'm
taking up space, looking good, rocking the Dodgers hat, which
I was so excited to see. Congratulations on the big news,

(00:22):
your first ever stand up at Dodger Stadium. Where am
I sitting? That's all I need to know right now?
When that goes down? What's up? Where are you sitting?
How about this? How about you? You joined me on stage, man,
and you open up the show. That's what's already pictures down?
What special guests? Are you down? I'm down right here?

(00:44):
I am so down. You gotta work on some material first? Hey,
should I throw a joke? Should I throw? Should I
hit him with the joke? Comedy? Should tell my wife
just coming look at it? Look at the hat she's
wearing right now, come here? That had his dope. Where'd
you get down? Hat? Actually got that because it goes
with her hig lights. Okay, oh my god, she goes
to their highlights. Honey, he's gonna be touch a cute
color for about your hat? Isn't that cute color? It's

(01:07):
like it's like baby ship brown, like one of the
baby baby poo Hey. New More's performing at Dodger Stadium
and he just asked me to open for him. Is
that dot Dodger Stadium. That's what's up. We're debating whether
I'm gonna tell a joke or not. No, no, okay,
I say yes. No. Listen to her, I know I

(01:28):
always listening to her. I always listened to her. No, Hey, bro,
that is seriously though, really awesome. I gotta imagine, my god,
like a career highlight, right. That's That's the biggest thing
I've ever done. Man. So it's it is it is. Uh,
you know, the fact that it's at home it means everything. Yeah.
So if it goes great, it's awesome. And if I
for some reason bomb, then it's a short drive home.

(01:49):
So does it? I mean it's it's it's awesome because
it's like the Rolling Stones, the Eagles. You performing there,
do you? I'm always curious about this. Does the size
of the audio it's affect your your perform or not
your performance, but the type of material or how you
perform That's what I'm saying. Yeah, the rhythm of show,
because when it's an intimate venue, like if you're at

(02:10):
the Ice House in Pasadena, I gotta imagine you approach
that differently than you are Dodger Stadium or my overthinking it,
there's there's always a question of the timing depending on
the size of the venue. For example, I always feel
like a comedy club is fast. It's instant because the
people are right there, they're right on you, and so
if your joke works, it works fast, and if it doesn't,
you know immediately that you're doing badly, you know. So

(02:33):
the timing from comedy club to a small theater to
a larger theater to an arena, I mean, the timing
definitely changes. There's been some arenas where I've played where
there's a thing called slap back where it gets that
echo pop right back to you. So you say something
and it hits you. The sound comes right back at you,
so it's a little distracting. But at Dodgers Stadium, man,
you know I've done the and I'm sure you've done

(02:54):
it too, where you get to go out and say
it's now time for Dodger Baseball and when you say it,
you hear the it's now now now time time for
four dog and and you know, you've always heard that
joke that that that there's that echo in a venue
that big, but it's true, and so there is a
concern over the timing. But I feel like they've already
uh reassured me that based on the type of sound

(03:16):
system we're gonna be using, uh and the monitors, and
they're gonna give me one of those bottle earpieces to
let her like You're like, yeah, so you know I'm
gonna be ready. So that's awesome. I'm sure the first
couple of bits are gonna kind of throw me off
of a second, but I'm ready for it. I think that,
you know, something as big as has never been done

(03:38):
before at Dodger Stadium, and so I'm excited that I
get to be the first. I'm proud of you, man.
That's what the key last for. Take the little ledge
off right in the front. I'll be throwing it back
with you right there. You know, I don't I don't
ever usually get nervous for for for anything, to be honest,
but when I had to throw a pitch out at
Dodger stadium and you're on that mound that SI gets
you nervous, bro, because heavy Exactly, we've all seen that

(04:00):
if he said video or something like he almost hit
a pigeon. So nobody wants to be that. So and
then when I got to throw the ball out, I
wasn't trying to be all major league. I'm like, let
me just lob it. I didn't care. I did like
a McDonald's arch. It went up and then it went down.
That's it's not a pitch. It's just a throw. I
just need to get it from here to there. Exactly.
That's exactly it right there. Um, are you filming it

(04:20):
for Netflix? I didn't even ask her, is it a
certain Yes? That's the cool part. Netflix has has been
huge on the supporting side with with stand up and
just my career in general, and so they're the ones
that actually approached me with the idea, and I had
thought about it. But when they said, hey, what do
you think, I'm like, I've been thinking it, and so, uh,
you know, we decided that, yeah, we're gonna make it

(04:41):
the next special. So we will be taping it. So
if anybody wants to be on TV, come on out.
If you have a warrant, Just you know, sit somewhere
like here the pavilion if you're there that night with
someone you're not supposed to be there with. We're not
here to ruin families, So just uh you know where
I where your COVID mask, Sit in the bag, eat
some natus. You know. Good, You're good to go. But yes,
there will be a lot of cameras there that well,

(05:03):
you know what, it's funny. I don't know if you've
seen not to deviate too much. There was a documentary
about this one fool who got accused of murder. You
saw it, and then he ended up with curb your enthusiasm.
They were shooting right, That wasn't that wild? Yeah? You
know because if not for that man, that guy would
still be locked up. You'd be locked up. Um, hey, Gabe,
you've been doing a lot of voice work space jam monsters. Uh,

(05:26):
what's a secret do you think coming up with character's voice?
The secret to coming up with the character? You said?
Is that what you asked? Yeah? Like is there? Do
you approach it different or? I think it depends on
what they want. For example, like when I did Coco,
they didn't want to hear this voice. They wanted to
hear something that was like we it's the character was
really small. They said that he needed to have a

(05:47):
certain uh. They wanted him to have a little bit
of an accent but not too crazy. And so we
just started playing and and and eventually we settled on
the voice that I did. So it wasn't this. The
voice that I did for Coco was like, he's more
of a like a smart So they wanted something that's
on it very animabing that smart, but the different Oh
my god. So it's kind of a combination of my

(06:08):
mom meets a cartoon meets something else in there. But
that's that's Mario's voice. And I like my two year old.
Why my wife just left at the show? He she
he's been watching Coco on Loop every day like three episo,
believing me. I've heard that voice a lot. I'm not
watching my wife's back. I'll aska right now. What's up
for Christmas? Man? You stay in put? Are you traveling?

(06:29):
You know what for Christmas? Um? I'm gonna Christmas Eve
is usually when you know when one brown people party
and then on that's when we go hang out at
our white friend's house. And celebrate, but usually there's like
you know, movies that happened on on Christmas. So what
I like to do is always like to do a
comedy shot at one of the small local improvs for

(06:49):
for Christmas. So more than likely I'll be on stage
for Christmas, and then at the end of the year
for New Year's Week, I'm gonna be at the in
Vegas of the Marrage all fun. So in actual New
Year's Eve, you'll be right there at Mirrage all the weekly.
I mean, I leave New Year's Eve because I don't
want to be part of that mess in Vegas. So yeah,
I'm forty five now, bro, I ain't got time for that.
That is okay. I'm gonna do my show as the

(07:09):
few a few shows before that got that week, and
then I'm gonna go to the Raider game on the
twenty six when they play the Broncos. They'll be in
Vegas for a few days and then uh yeah, I
head home for New Year's Oh that's fine, man, that's great. Man. Well,
so I'm so happy for you and everything, and a
don't forget about your boy for uh when you go
to the Dodger Stadium, I'll be right there. Yeah, no, dude,
I'm telling you you're you're the first person I've reached

(07:30):
out to or you know, we're talking about it, and
uh yeah, dude, i'd love it if you we'll welcome everybody,
and you know, I think that'd be that'd be really cool.
I'd be honored, and I appreciate you asking me. Man again,
so proud of you. Brother. Just go to all and
Mario dot com for tickets to Fluffy's Big Dodger Stadium show. Okay,
thanks for hanging out man, Thank you Mario. All Right,
I'll talk to you soon. I appreciate it. Bro. You

(07:52):
got it with Mario a little bit.
