Speaker 1 (00:00):
I had with Mario a little bit sorel Mario Lopez
joining me now on zoom from the Tonight Show and
that's my jam My man, Jimmy Fallon. Welcome back, Jay,
how you do. I'm gonna see you, buddy. So good
to see you talking to you, man. I love talking
to you. Thank you. But I always look forward to
talking to you. So check this out. We I literally
just got back from Orlando, Florida, where I was shooting
(00:23):
my show Access Hollywood Access Daily there for the week
and we did all the rides at Universal. My kids
loved the Tonight Show Jimmy Fallon ride. They love that.
It's such an awesome fun ride right there. How cool
is that? It's kind of the craziest thing. I'll tell
you the quick story about this getting a ride or
you know. So I'm I get the job to take
over for Conan on late Night, so I'm getting Late Night.
(00:44):
I go, it's a big deal. But it's NBC Universal,
So I go Universal. I should maybe we're kind of
like have my own ride at Universal Studios. And everyone's like,
and I go, can we talk to like the roller
coaster people? And we go roller coaster people Anyways, I
get a meeting with the roller Coast people at Universal.
I have a three page thing all typed out. I'm like,
I have an idea for a ride. It's like it's
(01:07):
almost like soaring the Disney ride through New York City
at nighttime. It's funny. You're gonna go cart and you
go down the subways and all this stuff. I pitched
this whole giant thing and they look at me and
they go, yeah, no, they go, but good luck, good
luck hosting the show. You're taking over, and have a
good time, Jerry, And I'm like, it's Jimmy about whatever.
(01:27):
And so then I do Late Night for five years
and I get the Tonight Show. I'm taking over the
Tonight Show. It's a big deal, and I'm like, oh
my gosh, everything's going well. We get the Tonight Show
and I get a phone call from the roller Coaster
piece a roller Coaster People's circle, and I say, they say,
do you remember you? And I go I freaked out.
I'm like, you, guys, remember I have my script right here.
(01:48):
We wrote it took two years to make it and
write it and then go shoot everything. They said yes
to everything. I wanted to be three D. I wanted
to be. I got to test the ride to see
if it was two. Simulator was too bumpy. People were
getting sick on it. Um Blake Blake Shelton actually got
sick after writing it. It was so too bump. We
had to change it after Blake Um and it was
(02:09):
uh yeah, And and it's the best thing. They built
a fake thirty Rock in Orlando, Florida. Tina Fey went
to with the ride. She was like, Jimmy, this is insane,
but like, what is going on? This is It feels
like because we worked in this building for twenty five years,
it's like going to thirty Rock in New York. Legit
and the other. Ever, Yes, it really is. I love it.
(02:30):
You can go on and when it rains you can
go on, and when the raids. I was like, I
gotta tell Jimmy next time I'm talking to is right?
So you know, my kids loved it and I was like,
it really is like the coolest thing ever. So bravo,
my man. Congratulations the best raised through New York. But
I love it. I'm so happy told me that. Yeah. Literally,
just work were auded yesterday. Another thing that I love
because we have some similar taste. Right your show that's
(02:50):
My Jam is back. It's coming on right after the
Voice that it is so my jam. I love music,
I love games. I'm waiting for an invite that was
supposed to be simpliment, but I'm just gonna tell you.
But by the way, that we were on our list
of like dude, like, who's our dream for if we're
picked up for next season? So I'm gonna are your boy,
come on, I'm ready. I would love it. You know
what we did season one, we didn't really know what
(03:12):
the format was. It was a whole kind of a
new kind of weird genre like is it variety show?
Is it music? Is it a game show with celebrities
asking music trivia and singing and having a sing off.
And it turned out it was so much fun. And
I think, you know, I think we owe a lot
to the Voice too, because that was our leading. You know,
it was kind of the same, like similar they like music,
(03:33):
so they stuck in with us and we got great guests.
But this year we upped our game. It's bigger, crazier games, explosions,
there's colors, there's wigs, there's uh, there's lots of fun things.
I can guarantee you this that after the show the
next day there's at least one or two performances that
you will be talking about that you know about like this.
(03:54):
The first episode, um that air's Tuesday is Jason Derulo
does a beautiful operatic version of the Thongs song. I
don't know if we need that, but we got that.
It's It's happening and it will be on TV. It's
he is an amazing voice, by the way, Yeah, yeah
(04:15):
can sing. Who's Who's Uh? Who's surprised you the most?
You know? Uh, it's always usually the actors. I mean
last season Kate Hudson, I knew that she could sing,
but she crushed it last season. I go, hey, you
should really think about like putting out an album. I mean,
you actually have an unbelievable voice. I think because she
(04:36):
came out and crushed so hard, we got all these
other asks from other people wanted to come on, go hey,
I want to try it out too. So we have
like people you go like, I knew they could sing,
but you never know until you see it. But like
Taraji p Henson, we have cheeky Palmer by the way,
she could do no wrong. She just crushes on the show.
(04:56):
I will tell you the song she's sing. She's a
sweetheart too. Yeah, and you has work on the other
show together. Yeah, we actually work really but Kiki Palmer
does a mashup of Don't Start Now by dou Alipa
over the song don't Stop Believing My Journey and it is.
It's something that should be released. It should be on Spotify.
It is like so catchy and so yeah real. It's like,
(05:17):
it's so fun. I want to hear it now. Now
you got me trying to figure it out. I'll be
in all email to you. It's really really that h
And we gotta think of what song you're gonna do
next season. Yeah, I might have the rap or something.
I'm not I'll come karrang Jimmy, I'll come. I love
that right, I want to do It's like, you know,
I tell everyone as we're going in, don't get nervous
(05:40):
because I don't want to. I won't let you fall.
No one's gonna look bad on the show. It's supposed
to be fun. It's a game show. It's for charity.
But I don't want everyone to score. And I think
that's what happens you know, I kind of have that
philosophy with its night show as well. But on this
show and that's my jam, everyone scores and it's super
duper fun. Nicole Scherzinger, by the way, who everyone you
(06:00):
know she can sing, but now people know her as
the judge on Mass Singer. I'm like, no, she's a
famous singer. Guy exactly. She crushes a led Zeppelin version
of the Celine Dion song. It's wow, it's so dumb,
but it's powerful and she wraps it standing ovation. It's
just so fun. It was great. So yeah, I'm happy
(06:22):
to we're back for a season two and I'm happy
we were following the Voice again. It's like we lucked
out on that because you never know what you're leading movie.
You can't choose that. I'm like, I don't want to
follow nightly news, you know, exactly, No, it's perfect. How
do you find the time up with the schedules you
shot in New York, you block shoot it in a
bunch of different or how does it work out for you?
(06:43):
You know? Yeah, we shot it in Los Angeles. On
my week off of the Tonight Show, I flew out
to La I think we had actually it was two
weeks off and I was two weeks in LA. I
went out there and they have you know what it's like, LA.
I don't tell you, buddy, But in New York we
have kind of small studios. In LA, they have like
airplane hanger, right, huge sound stages. Yeah, oh my god,
(07:04):
like you know, a thousand people in the crowd and
giant stages and explosions and smoke, and I go, oh
my goodness. And it's kind of fun. It's very show
business because like I love show business. I love being
in it. I love talking about it. And it makes
you feel like you're back in old timey Hollywood. Like
you go across the from one South stage to another.
They're doing the voice right there. So you see Blake Shelton,
(07:26):
you see Kelly Clarkson, you see a showgirl, go buy
in a golf cart. You know, they're making movies there.
It's exciting. It's cool. No, I agree, I agree. You
say a reason, man, I can't believe it's been twenty
five years since your start on SNL. What do you
think your younger self would say or what would you
say to your younger self? Now, yeah, that's a good question.
(07:48):
I guess I would say, hang in there, it's gonna
be okay. It's all going to turn out amazing. It's
like you're you know, I have so many pinched me
moments in my life, you know, Sirate Live of course
that was it. You know, Don Pardo saying your name,
that's another one. It's like and it just keeps topping itself.
(08:09):
And like you get you know, your name on the
side of the building, and you go, what, this is crazy.
I worked here forever, you know, like to see my
name on the side of the building in New York
and you go, okay, this is all fantastic. And then
I'm married and you have you know, I have beautiful kids,
and you go, this is all crazy. So I want
to say, Jimmy hanging there. Uh. And it's weird meeting
(08:31):
your older self, but this is what you look like
when you get older. Sorry about that, Take care of it,
work out more, eat healthy, and um yeah, it's all
gonna work out pretty pretty great. You'll be hanging out
with some of your idols. That's awesome. Absolutely. Last question
about the Oscar is of course around the corner. Is
there anything particular that you're rooting for or you're you're
(08:51):
a fan of this year. I did think, uh, you know,
I loved Elvis. I love Top Gun by the way.
I thought they lived up to the hype. I also
loved Tom Cruise saying, hey, this is we're not just
going right to streaming. I want this in theaters and
demanding that it opened in theaters and making that big.
(09:13):
He made a big deal about it, and they did it.
They didn't go right to streaming. They did and people
went back to the theaters and he kind of woke
everyone up again. He woke up the industry, and I
thought that was cool. And I thought it was a
well written script. I thought it was well acted. I
just I thought that was such a good experience for me.
So I love that Brendan Fraser we had on the
(09:34):
show and he did a sketch and I just love
that he's still funny and being the same goofball that
he was, but also legit classy with all his speeches.
And I think that we're going to see him get
an oscar. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it, man, And
I'm looking forward to seeing you hopefully soon in person. Buddy.
Congrats on everything. God bless you. Congrats you anytime. Thank
(09:55):
you there. Please let me know because I want to
come hang with you, buddy. You know I love you.
Thank you man. All love over here. Watch that's my Jam.
It is a cool show. That is Tuesdays on NBC.
Thank you for if you miss it Tuesday, it's Wednesday

right on, Jermy. Thanks buddy, You're always the best. But
to say best to everybody can see you you too,
(10:15):
