Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario Lopez dab Brio. Lopez joined me
down the phone, any winning actor, My man, Jimmy Smith's
welcome to the show man. How are you, Mario? What's
going on, Jimmy Mary? I thought it was just gonna
be like you and me. It's like you and me
and everybody. It's it's just you and me. Player, It's
just you know, he got people running the board over
(00:21):
here and stuff. I'm like Fred Flintstone. I don't know
how to do all that. How are you? How are
you man? I'm doing well, man, I'm doing well. Congratulations
on this new show. Sounds very cool, sounds perfect for
you East New York. You're playing a cop, Um, tell
me about it. I'm We're having a great time. It's
(00:42):
it's on CBS. It's I'm getting to work with some
people that I had worked with before on some of
the creators on that were involved with LL Law and
then WYPD Blue, So you know, there's a shorthand between us.
So that was that was a nice box check. And uh,
you know, although it uh, I am using he's playing
a cop, but it's the lens that the show is
(01:05):
looking at with regards to law enforcement in the community
is shifted as it has shifted in in in real life.
So we're gonna be dealing with uh some of those subjects,
you know, thematic wise, and it's all about what's on
the page. Mario, you know that it's UH rich characters
(01:27):
and I'm jazz. It's a really wonderful, wonderful ensemble cast
as well. I Uh, I'm I'm a big supporter of
our law enforcement. I think those guys have the incredibly
difficult jobs and they they you know, wake up every
day and they want to do a good job, get
home to their family and and need them. And it
seems like now we need them more than ever. So
I'm glad we're having a focus on them and what
(01:50):
they have to deal with now. The show is called
East New York. Like I said, your Share, So are
you shooting it in New York? I should ask that first. No, No, definitely,
Well you're true, because we NYPD Blue and UH mostly
in Los Angeles exactly take trips back over there. No,
this is actually in for the for the most of
we're in Brooklyn, where in New York studios are. But
(02:11):
we're shooting. We're actually shooting in and it's one of
the reasons why I'm on board. We're shooting in East
New York when we do big set pieces that are outside,
and that's a it's a neighborhood that I grew up in, Mario.
I get flushed all these memories all the time, which
you know, happily it informs what I'm doing characterized too.
So oh that's fun, man, that's fun. It's great to
(02:34):
get to go back home right there. And Anda Warren
is also on the show with you, right, she must
be some fun to work with. Amanda Warren is the show. Yes,
her character Regina Heywood, is playing the deputy inspector who's
in charge of this particular precinct who's bringing new ways
of law enforcement dealing with the community. And I play
(02:58):
her the our commander who's kind of given her the
space to try to institute these new policies. I love it.
I love it. It's gonna be a fun dynamic right there. U. Yeah, well,
congrats on that. I gotta ask you because my son
and I watched all these shows. I saw you in
Obi one earlier this year, so they've done such a
great job over there. Um to me, the the these
(03:20):
new series. They've just taken it to the next level.
It's gotta be so much fun, right playing that Star
Wars visiting that Star Wars universe again. Well yeah, I mean,
you know, it's it's become dignified and in the sense
that you know, they've taken over that franchise. So but
but it's allowed for different origin stories to come about
and offshoots of the characters and and the world that
(03:42):
we're familiar with it that George Lucas created. Um, but yeah,
you know, it's it's it's it was fun for me
to get back in the ropes again. It was cool, man,
it was it was really cool. Little last scene or
al Sassy and kidnapping her. I was like, I gotta
doing that stuff. Hey, there's also been some talk of
Sons of Anarchy revival. Would you be interested in returning
(04:03):
to that world. I hadn't heard about that, Mary, So
you have a connected I don't even know about. But well,
you know, I got my hand out puls over here. Hey,
you're playing all these cool spaces man, so you know, yeah,
that that that'd be fun. What do you remember about
that time? It's all about trying to mix it up
a little right and keep doing something a little bit
different in terms of what's offered or what's available to you.
(04:24):
But that was that was like a great bunch there
there there, it's a great bunch. So if they decided
to do an off shot, Kurt, so it was just
like so talented, Um, I'd be down awesome, come visit
to come visit. Yeah. Well, meanwhile we will be checking
out East New York, which is on Sundays on CBS. Jimmy,
(04:45):
thanks so much for taking the time to call in. Man.
Always nice to hear from you, and congrats again on
the show. Good talking to you. Brothers. Say hey, say
headed a family for me? You too, you too, man,
Take care. On with Mario Lopez
