Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario Lopez. It's up here on Mario Lopez,
join me now on zoom. Emmy and Tony Winnie, actor
my man John Leguizama, Welcome show man. How been, Thank
you Mary, what's up? Good to see you man, Good
to see you too. It's well zoom exactly if you zoom.
We were just talking prior to coming on air that
because of social media you're able to kind of keep
(00:20):
up with everyone and know what's going on. You know,
it's that wild. It is why he's kind of a
dance so you would Paula do That's right exactly, choreographer,
exactly exactly. I love what you post clips too from
what your shows and stuff because I've been to a
couple of them, so I can relate to it. Where
you got. You got a lot going on. Let's start
with the power. This is a sci fi series, man,
(00:41):
what's the premise exactly? Oh, it's it's a pretty wild.
It's a very beloved book that was an international bestseller. Uh. Basically,
girls when they reach out of lessons um because they
had to protect themselves because of evolution and and and
they're vulnerable. They grew u an organ and this organ
(01:04):
can give electricity, and some girls can give us static shocks.
Some girls can give a nuclear blast. And then society
starts getting scared of them and they start rounding them up,
and then they escape and it's it's it's pretty wild, man.
I played the dad of one of the girls. Damn.
Always knew girls are dangerous, but damn, that's next level
(01:24):
right there. And you you play the f and you
have kids yourself, right John? How many? Yeah? You have
to have to have a daughter and a son twenty one,
twenty three. How's your Oh you got full on adults
in you're full adults? Oh yeah, yeah, my son's about
to graduate. My daughter graduated, Dean's less. Congratulations. That's the best, man,
that's the best. How's your how's your character as a
(01:46):
father on the show as opposed to you in real life?
There's similarities there? Or well, you know, I could have
never played this role the way as fully as I
do if I hadn't been a dad, because it's it's
a certain thing you learned. You learned to be selfless persons,
it dad, You learned that you don't matter anymore. Nobody
cares about you, and it's okay. And it's actually I
(02:07):
know what you mean, Like, that's fine. I don't have
to be number one anymore, right, And so you know,
I learned to nurture these kids, and I can do it.
You know, it can also be like tough love, it
also comes with love. So yeah, I was able to
really give Rob the character I play, who's a scientist
and a stay at home dad at the same time,
like the full dad vibe. Yeah. Yeah, that's awesome man.
(02:29):
Well congrats on that. And oh, you're also going to
be guest hosts in The Daily Show this week, right,
I start Monday. I'm the last celebrity. Nice. Yeah, so
we'll see what happens. I mean, I'll follow out Frankie.
He's hard to follow. Are you bringing something in particular,
because I know you're very opinionated and passionate. Is there
(02:50):
are you allowed to kind of come with your own
flavor or do they kind of have all this is
what we were thinking. And it's really great, man. Actually,
I didn't expect to be this amazing. I mean, I've
always have been a huge fan of the show always.
It helped me through a couple of presidencies. Uh and
uh yeah, yeah, I'm allowed to bring subjects that I
care about, the guests that I want to talk about,
(03:11):
sketches that I want to do about, topics that I
care about. Yeah, so you know you you're allowed to
bring a lot of yourself to it. Oh that's great. Well,
you know your stuff. So I'm sure you're gonna kill
a brother. Looking forward to that, um and coming up
in April, Leguizamo does America on MSNBC because I've seen
your show live and I love that history as I
was always my favorite subject too. And I know you
love it is this, I love it, love it essentially. Um,
(03:34):
you taking us through that? Well, what's that about? I'll
let you see explain? Sure, sure, no, no, no, you
know I like the guests. I love the guests. Uh.
It's it's more of, um, sort of a tour through
America finding Latin excellence all across the country, you know.
And I find chefs and singers, dancers, uh, directors, actors, politicians, activists,
(03:58):
all all of them, all across you I go to
New York, La Puerto Rico, Miami and that's the first season.
And then I sit down and talk to them and
we eat food, we vibe on the food, we do
some dance, and we talk about Latin life in America.
Oh that's great man, looking forward to checking that out
as well. It's the first time it's happening in America.
(04:19):
I mean, it's crazy with the oldest ethnic group, largest
ethnic group, Latin X and this is the first English
show in our culture ever. It's that. Yeah, it's unbelievable
that just happened now. But luckily it's happening fastest growing
demographic too. You're right, um oh yeah on showtime next month.
Waco The Aftermath starring uh Michael Shannon. So wait a minute,
(04:41):
I saw you in a Waco, the Waco The Am
I crazy? Or that I saw you in the This
a Waco movie? Is this like a part two? But
I didn't die. I didn't die. No, you didn't die. No,
but I saw you. I was like, wait, are we So?
Are you just kind of picking up where you left off? For? Yes, yes,
this would take you. Aftermath picks up the aftermath of course,
the aftermath. But I'm like, am I crazy? I know?
I saw him in one after man? Yeah? Yeah, okay, yeah.
(05:01):
So like Michael Shannon, who was the FBI agent investigating
the Waco yeah, and the ATF who made huge mistakes
is now dealing with the aftermath with the other There
was a bunch of white supremacist groups at the time,
and and so he's dealing with another group. Got it.
Got oh good, The last one was good. I'm looking
forward to seeing Oh my god, I thought it was
(05:22):
so good. Yeah, it really was. The other kitch I
thought killed it as Davidians, Yes, yes, no, I thought
it was really really good. Man. I love how you
keep it um so diverse, from your your your one
man shows, to you're hosting things, to to obviously acting.
There are no rules man, so and you've been able
to kill it for a long time. Now keep doing
your thing. Meanwhile, you can watch The Power, which is
(05:43):
debuting March thirty first on Amazon Prime. John, thanks for
checking in, brother. Hope to seeing in person. So thank
you for having me. Mary. Always great seeing you big
