Speaker 1 (00:00):
Real on with Morial a little bit Morial, Lipez, Jordy
Vnellen Zoom the latest I heard radio on the Merge
artist Jake. Welcome to the show man, Horrea. What's up.
I'm great. How are you? I'm well? Thank you? Where
you from? Originally? I'm from Rhode Island, born and raised
and I'm still living here. Hey, Providence. Yeah, right around there,
(00:20):
right in the r I that's a great sound right
there in my great state. I should say, Um, how
did you get into music? Was it something that was
always a passion or something you feel into? Yeah? So
I grew up in a very musical family. My mom's
a music teacher, and I also grew up in church.
My dad's a pastor, and so, um, they had me
up there. I was seven years old. I always was
(00:41):
just a rhythmical little kid, and so they put me
up on the drums and my mom had me taking
piano lessons, and um. By the age of fourteen, I
started making beats. I got a computer and I just
became obsessed and ever since then, I've just been writing songs.
Good for you, man, that's awesome. Uh. The single currently
rising on the charts is Golden Hour. What was the
(01:03):
inspo for this one? Yeah? For me, whenever I get
into the studio, my main focus is just on just
tapping into a specific feeling. Um. With this one, Golden Hour,
it was really just the feeling that you get when
looking at someone beautiful, just like appreciating what they look like,
(01:23):
noticing every little detail. I just you know, wanted to
express that through a song and so um, yeah, Golden
Hour is just all about that. For the Ladies eleven
that and before that, the single Upside Down? Is it
true your mom help you write that one? It's funny.
So uh, back in when everything shut down for covid Um,
(01:44):
I started making TikTok's and I had this idea to
make a beat and then pull my mom in and
I'd just be like, hey, press these buttons and you know,
make it look like you just made this in twenty seconds.
And she started going viral. And so the secret is
that she didn't actually make them, but everything that she's
pressing is right on timing because she's super musical and
so ye, yeah, technically my mom definitely had played a
(02:07):
huge part in that. Any any artists you've collabed with
or what would like to collab with. Yeah, I have
a number of collapse on the way, but one of
my dream collapse I already got to do, which was
a remix of Upside Down with Charlie Pouth. I'm just
I've been such a huge fan of him for a
long time, and um we ended up making a TikTok
(02:28):
together all that, and so yeah, that was one of
my favorite collapse. But I got a number on the
way that you know, I'm really excited about what we're
working on. Oh man, that's good. That that's good to hear.
Bro Um, You've had a lot of offers from big
record labels, but you've chosen to stay independent. Has has
been a difficult decision and and and uh what's kept
you from signing? Yeah, it was really difficult because you know,
(02:51):
there's a lot of big offers, a lot of money
on the table, and you know, when I was really
thinking about it for myself, UM, I had just seen
how much me and my team had done, um just
on our own, independently, and I'm really just kind of
on a mission to see how much we can do
by ourselves. And you know, I don't you know, shame
(03:12):
anybody for signing with a major because you know they
can be amazing helps. But for me, I just really
want to you know, kind of put the risk on
myself and bet on myself because I feel that tenacity
keeps me, um, you know, in best shape when I'm
working on my music in the studio stuff like that.
So that was kind of why I came to that decision.
(03:32):
I like that, can we go wrong investing yourself and
be believing yourself good for you? Um, you're gonna be
performing a jingle ball this year. Christmas songs on the
set list. Yeah, we actually have. I don't know if
I told anyone this, but we have a Christmas remix
of one of my songs coming out that will uh
be be singing. I don't know if it's debuting there,
but um yeah, I am really excited to you know,
(03:55):
make some more Christmas music. I think, Uh it's tough.
I feel like every time Chris this comes around, I'm like, oh, man,
I should have been working on new Christmas songs. And
so this next upcoming year, I have an idea for
a Christmas song, So Christmas Tree, I'll probably come up
with a Christmas song. Cool. Well, now that we're well
into the holidays. We've teamed up with our good friends
(04:16):
over at Macy's for Macy's Wishless Wednesday. Because holiday gift
shoppings in full swing and with gifts, you want to
splurge onto your family and friends. So for me, I'm
gonna take advantage of these great deals. Get my wife
some of those ug slippers she likes and one of
those throw blankets because she always seems to be cold.
What about you, Jake, what's on your wish list? Man? Uh?
For me, I love uh cologne's and perfume. Hey, my guy,
(04:40):
that's what I'm a fragrance. I'm a fragrance guy myself nice? Yes,
I am just obsessed. What's your go to? What's your
go to? Um? Recently, I've been rocking some Blue Deschanel
and I like to know that one a little bit
with some Valentino. But I just love me some good cologne.
But I've been real playing over here, songwriter and cologne connoisseur. Okay,
(05:04):
there we go. I've been trying to nail down the
right scent for my dad and so I'll probably get
him some cologne. I might go in and smell some
different ones. I always go to Macy's for that, Get
him one that you like and say it's for him,
and then you can just borrow it. You know I've
done that before. I will lie. All right. We'll check
out Macy's dot com slash Gift Finder for all of
(05:25):
your gifting needs. And the best part, Wishless Wednesday sports
Big brother and Big Sisters of America. So go to
Macy's dot com slash Purpose and donate two Big Brothers

to inspire youth equity and empower kids to reach their potential.

Blank Feels Like on I Heart Radio or wherever you

(05:47):
a happy Thanksgiving. Yeah, thanks you as well. All right,
