Speaker 1 (00:01):
With Mario a little bit. It's off you on Mario
Lopez joining me now on Zoom from the Fox sitcom
Call Me Cat. Actor Leslie Jordan. Welcome back, Leslie. How
have you been since we last danced inside each other? Well,
after the dance, I was so worn out. I took
a month or two off. No, no, no, I we
have been having so much fun. You know. The first
(00:22):
season of our show, um, you know, you learned the
characters and you you meet this one and that one everything,
And now our second season we're into situation comedy at
its finest. So they're giving us these amazingly funny situations
and we're having, uh, just a blast. It's a really
(00:47):
good show. And trust me, I've been around the block
so many times. I'm dizzy. I've done some stinkers over
the years. I know good and I know. Yeah, you
can appreciated that show. Of course, it is called that show,
courses called Call Me Cat. Congratulations again on season two, Um,
do we learn more about your character this season? What?
(01:08):
What what's going on with Carter? Well, Carter is the
that's what's his name? That's Julian Uh. Julian Gant plays Carter.
I play feel Paro Poro Field like everybody loves fail.
He's just in his all little world. I think I
(01:29):
was thinking the other day, I thought this is so easy,
and I think it's because this is the closest to
Leslie Jordan I've ever played. So I'm just kind of,
you know, doing a little Leslie Jordan's and that's what
you get with feel whatever you get with uh me.
You know, there's not a lot of acting here, it's
just being in uh phil uh this uh they whispered
(01:53):
to me yesterday. He may he may uh get into
a relations to you. Oh look at that. I like
it with perhaps with Nurse Neilson who's been interduced out,
don't know, but uh uh they said, we may even
give you an own screen gay kiss I old lord, Lord,
(02:17):
look at you go. Leslie. Well, if the character is
anything like Leslie Jordan's and he's a very likable character.
Um the season two premiere to feature our premier to
a Little Blossom reunion too. Huh. That was so much fun.
That really caught me off guard because I was sitting
there and you know, you see all the guests people
for the week and we're doing our first table reading,
(02:38):
I thought, that's Joey Lawrence. And and you know he's
held he's held up nicely. He looked very good, like you, Mario.
He's held up. Oh, he's held up good. And he
and then the other two Jenna and Michael, and I
thought that is such a great idea because they show
(03:00):
up they're going to a convention. Our show takes place
in Louisville, and they're going to like a eighties convention
or nineties convention. Whenever that show was on the air,
and course Maam, as her character says, I love that show.
Whatever happened to the girl with the flower and hat?
And they go, all she got on drugs. We think
she died. I like that dark coming very nice. Hey, Leslie,
(03:26):
you you put out a country gospel album this last spring.
On what was the inspiration for that? I have this
good friend named Travis Howard and another good friend in Nashville,
Dame Dandy Myrick, and we used to get together on
Sundays and we would do hymns. We all grew up
in the Baptist Church, and we've all taken sort of
(03:46):
different paths, either away from the church or back into
the church. And this and that, and we would see
these hymns and this is the this is the fabric
of my childhood. I mean, we went to church every
time the door's open. I've been baptised fourteen times. You're
getting my We're done. But you know, uh, I had
(04:09):
a little secret. And so every time the preacher would
say with a lot of center coming forward, I'd think,
oh boy, I don't want to, you know, end up
in the fiery depths of hals. I'd run forward Richard
and say, I believe I baptized you this summer. I said, well,
it didn't take I need, I like it, I can
respect it. You keep going back. And anyway, we started.
(04:32):
We started singing these old rheams. I can go forever.
We start singing these old hams, and um, we just
decided to put an album together. We made a list
of who we would like to sing these hymns with
for me, and every one of them said yes, Dolly
Parton Eddie Vetter. Can you imagine I went over to
(04:55):
Hawaiian recording to him with Diddie Vetter. I just had
to sit there for it. That's vida hi Eddie right,
It's aid right there. And we had everybody, Tanya Tucker
and Chris Stipleton. I mean that was a that was
a big one. You have an all star cast right there.
That's a credit to you and your likability. Congrats on that. Man.
(05:16):
Do you do any live shows? Um, we're thinking about it,
because we did one. We put together a wonderful show
at the Rhyman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, which you know
that that's the mother Church. I mean that that's where
you know country music began. And it was such a
wonderful evening and they stold it completely out. I don't
(05:38):
know how many of homes. It's big. Look at that right, big, right,
big theater. And we did and so now we're putting
together a little tour of it, you know, sometime during
my hiatus. So yeah, we had in the live show,
we had the Chris Stipleton, we had everybody, everybody, everybody.
That's so cool. I love that you're killing it with
the TV show and in the singing and it's it's
(06:01):
it's fantastic. And and one last question for let you
go here, Leslie. I know you were buddies with Betty White.
Do you do you have a favorite story working with her.
I was on her to work with her a couple
of times too. She was a special I think my
favorite one is we would we would finish for the
day and Betty would always say she would walk over
me and look for me. Right now. She's say you
(06:23):
go straight home, as opposed to that post go drinking
or hook up whatever. I don't know what it meant,
but you know what it meant. I know you know,
And no matter what I like, you know, I love
that because that really meant just take care of you,
(06:45):
say of course, of course, and don't mess around because
I want to see you tomorrow. And she saw the
devil in you. That's why she didn't want you wild
and out and messing up the show. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
We'll listen. Lesi. It's always great catching up with you again.
The show is called Call Me Cat Thursdays on Fox.
(07:06):
Thanks so much for hanging out today, Leslie. Nice catching up, buddy.
Okay always I'm always available circling the block. Hey, you
go straight home. I will on with Mario Lopez
