Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario a little bit. It's up. You're
on Mario Lopez joining me now on Zoom. Grammy winning
artist Macy Gray. Welcome to the show. How you doing, Macy?
What up? What up with you? I'm just chelling, you know.
I have I tell everybody that day I met Mario Lopez?
Is that right? What is that day? That time we

(00:21):
want to fly and and and you you had a
little bit of a hangover and you lay down on
my shoulder. That's the best story ever. I'llmost start repeating
that now that many a hangover and leaned on many
a shoulders. So I'm gonna start to uh to tell
that one. Oh well, thank you for your shoulder and

(00:41):
for your time. Congrat I didn't know what to make
of it. I kind of looked at you and then
you got up. I think you took it the wrong way.
Was like, what are you doing? But I didn't mean
get off my shoulder? But you got off my shoulder.
All right. We'll just to put a pin in that. Uh,
if we're on the flight again, odds area might be
hungover night, borrow your shoulder again. Yeah, just just go

(01:03):
ahead and lay on my shoulder. Bank Okay, good sounds
good now that we got that out of the way.
Nice Um. Congratulations on the new album, The Reset. I
like the title. What's the significance of the title? Oh well,
we wrote it in when all that craziness was going on,
and it was like, uh, it was like a recept
for us. Like we went in the studio and you know,

(01:26):
it was a time when everybody's emotions were all crazy
and so, uh, we just kind of let it all
out in the record. So it was kind of a
like new thinking and feelings that people never had before.
It was cool, right, Yeah, A lot of confusion during
that time. You introduced the first single on American Song Contest.
Every Night is the name of it? Um, very cool show.

(01:47):
What made you want to use that show in particular
to promote the song? They called this out. They were
they somehow they heard the song and they were all
excited and you know, and they talked me into it
and we went on it. It was it was fun.
It's a fun show, it is, and it's it's sort
of it's it's kind of a trip because they got
Grammy winning artists like yourself, Michael Boltman, I know, Jule

(02:07):
and all that and um, and yet you're competing against
other songwriters who obviously aren't as well known, but it
all sort of seems to work. When they pitched it
to you, what were your initial thoughts, Um, I was
kind of excited because because there's a lot of you know,
uh like singing contest and then but this one was

(02:29):
more about the song, So black Doug, Yeah, that's what's
cool for me as well. You could be hitting the
road this summer. Yeah, we gotta we live for Europe
in about three weeks and then we we come back.
We do d C New York failing, and then we
go back to Europe and then and then we'll probably

(02:51):
doing all out us to the next year. Nice. I
bet it's great to be back on the road. Good
for you, um, may say, I've read a story about
hanging out with friends in the dark. How do you
break the ice in a situation like that? Well, it was,
it was it was pretty wild. You know. He came
to my show in Toronto, Canada at the Government this

(03:13):
is pretty cool proper club and then after midnight I
turned into a rave and so me and my band,
you know, we did our show and I thought I
would meet him at the show, but I guess he
was I didn't know where he went. So we all
got on our bus and we were all partying on
the bus and then one of his guys came to
the bus and he says, the artists would like to

(03:33):
speak with you, he said, the artist. Yeah, So he
took me up to this room they had and it
went but then it was dark. He didn't turn on
the lights. He was just sitting there in the dark,
and we talked for like two hours in the dark.
In the dark. Were you like, um, yoh, why are

(03:54):
we in the dark? No, because there was friends, you know,
I couldn't be questioning prints and prints. But no, I'm not.
I mean, that's not like a personal question. Just I
got like, why are we chill it in the dark
right now? I'm just kind of you know, I was
just kind of so hot it I just sat there
right I would have got mad sleepy in the drunkard.

(04:14):
Can I hope you find a lamp? How about a
crashdot or busted a lighter or something or that. That's
an awesome story. I love me some good print stories. Um,
your kids are all grown now, right grown a f Wow,
what are into. My son's in the music, he's out
Coachella right now. And then my daughter is a graphic

(04:34):
artists and my other daughter is a photographer. So they're
all artists, betweens, they're they're all broke. Yeah, they're all
creative times. I get it. I get it. Well. Congratulations
on the new music. Listen to every night on iHeart
Radio or wherever you listen to music, Macie, Thanks for
checking in. I hope to see you in a flight soon. Yes,
I need you guys to download every night. We're trying

(04:55):
