Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario a little BITZ. Mario Lopez joining
me Allen Zoom from Cobra Kai. Actor Martin Cove, Welcome
back to the show. Martin. Nice to see you, Thank you,
thank you, thank you. I saw you were hanging out
at Camp Penalton last week. He's still able to keep
up with those Marines down there. Yeah, I was incredible.
I actually went there. That's it was my birthday and
(00:23):
I spent some time riding horses in Arizona, and then
I came in just to really do that and spend
time with the Marines. I signed seven hundred and eighty
nine autographs in two hours. Wow, you counted. I didn't know.
I don't count with somebody with the clicker had counted. Okay,
that's a that's a lot. Good for you. I'm sure
(00:45):
they appreciated that. So so let's talk Cobra Kai. You
know I'm a big fan of the show. Have you
already filmed season five? Yeah, we already filmed season from
you happy in the direction that the show was going, Yeah, yeah, Unfortunately,
can't tell you much about it, but it's really it's
full of surprises and everybody who watches will just I went,
(01:09):
I did some a d R work just yesterday, you know,
dubbing um, and it's first bit I saw. Everybody's gonna
love it. It's very exciting. Do you know of season
five of the final season? Can you say that? I
don't think so. I don't know. I don't think so.
I you know, everything kind of points to everybody loving
(01:32):
it so much and the numbers being so good that
I'm sure Netflix will you know, make the decision to
keep going not but you technically don't know until you know.
We got the call to do season to shoot season five,
uh in July, to start shooting in September. That's how
(01:53):
it was. Yeah, yeah, no, I know, these things happen
quick now. Season four, which is currently streaming right now
in Netflix, brings Thomas Ian Griffith a k a. Terry Silver.
Was this the first time you've you've worked with them
since the eighties? Yeah, yeah, pretty much. Eighty nine was
the last time when Chrid three was out there and
(02:15):
we worked together, and then I guess I stayed friends
with him for a couple of years and then we
kind of let's see each other every once in a while,
you know. But this was the first time I you know,
literally literally just it's some acuum with him. That's awesome
and what I love about your character. It seems like
Crease is beginning to evolve after the events of the
(02:36):
Big Tournament. Are you going to be exploring more of
this side of the character this season? Yeah, it's it's
it's my wish to have this character written with what
texture and vulnerability and much more of an emotional, compassionate guy.
And you know they're doing that, which is great. That's
what I wanted from the very beginning. When we all met,
(02:56):
I can Dan Tennis Restaurant three four years ago and
they put on Billion Ralph and they said to me,
you know, we want you to come in at the
end of season one, setting up season two, and you'll
come in basically episode ten. And they were really afraid
that I was going to get angry because they didn't
(03:18):
know me and they just knew the image from the movie. Sure,
they were afraid that I was gonna get really crazy
at them and be angry, and I wasn't as long
as they wrote the character with more texture and vulnerability
and feelings than the guy in the movies, because the
guy in the movies is ice. You know, no exactly.
(03:39):
Everyone's got a backstory, so it's it's always fun to explore. Um.
You've also you've also got a podcast that you do
with your kids, Kicking It with the Coves. What do
you talk about on there? We talked about everything. My
kids are so astute. My son Jesse, who was on
Cobra Kai, you know, he wasn't bullying sequence the first
(04:00):
I think it was in the diner. It was the
first time there was a flashback. And he bullies me
in when you know, you really think he's me and
he isn't, and I'm the bus boy. He bullies, and
he hass a lot of you know, references. He's a
wonderful actor. He's playing wide up in a prequel called
(04:22):
Dodge City, which is a prequel to to him so
and podcast. And my daughter is brilliant, she's you know,
she's a life coach. And we talked about everything. We
had a coach from pepper Dinon University who was coaching
girls soccer team for twenty nine years. We had the
cast members, we had the writers, the creators of the
(04:43):
show of Corporate Kai on last week, which is unbelievable
as an episode, and we had, you know, actors, and
I'm gonna bring on all kinds of people more than
just people in show business, but doctors and psychologists, and
we talked about everything. Man, we talked about you. Oh no,
(05:03):
hopefully in a positive light. Oh it's so good, so good,
thank you. So you know, I love that you keep
it in the family. And there's nothing better than when
you get it, get to be able to do what
you love and you get to spend time with your
family while doing it. It's on Spotify, it's on Apple,
and it's it's kicking you with the coves and it's
(05:23):
something that you know, I put out there just for
the kids. I didn't really personally care was I doing
a podcast, because I got other things I'm doing. I'm
trying to get a Western going, you know, and there's
other things. But yet this just fit in so well.
And the reviews are great and podcast one is a
wonderful company to work for. But I love doing it live.
(05:46):
I don't like doing it like Zoom. I love when
I can go in the studio like last week I
was in l A and Boom. I could go in
there and interact like I do with you, you know. Yeah, no,
I love it. I love it. There's nothing like that
energy right there. And you mentioned casually about working on
a Western. I hope that comes to fruition because we're
I know, we're both big fans of Yellowstone in eighteen
(06:08):
eighty three, so hopefully there's a resurgence in that space.
In the meanwhile, I want you to check out Cobra
Kai on Netflix and listen to Kicking It with the
Coves on the I Heart Radio at Martin. Thanks for
checking checking in with us and spending time. Appreciate you.
It's always a pleasure with you. Man. You're such a
movie person that you know, we could talk. You and
(06:29):
I could talk about Westerns all day, all day. I
love it. Well, we'll do that next time you come in.
Take take care of my friends with Mario a little
