Speaker 1 (00:00):
Come on Mario a little bit. It'spa Mario Lopez joining
me right now, actor a musician, Nat Wolf. How are
you not? I'm doing good, man. I mean, I mean
we're in a really you know, awful couple of days
in terms of world news, and so it's it's it's
pretty upsetting, but I'm doing as good as I can be.
How about you? I'm doing well? Thank you for asking yes.

(00:21):
In our business, the show must go on. And speaking
on speaking of which, you've got a new one Joe
Versus Carol, which of course is about the informous Joe
Exotic and Carol Baskin based on the docuseries Tiger King.
I'm very excited for it. On a personal note, break
it down for us, So basically, I mean, for me,

(00:41):
I watched that Netflix docuseries right when the pandemic hit
and I was obsessed like everybody else, and I email
my agents right when it came out, saying, hey, if
they ever do a you know, a live action version
of this, I got I really want to play Travis.
And they're like, hey, yeah, whatever, And then a year
goes by they're making the show and uh and they're like,
we like, now for this other roles like, no, I

(01:02):
really want to play Travis, So I kind of fought
for the audition that I got it. And really, what
it is is, it's it's a it's a it's a
way more human in depth look at these people. Because
even though Tiger King was hilarious and very memorable and
wild um and this all has that. This has that.
But but I feel like as a culture, we tended,

(01:22):
we tend to make fun of people until we really
understand them. And when you get inside of these people's
heads and see them when the cameras aren't rolling, you know,
it's there were all victims of trauma. They were all
um abused as a lot of them are abused as children,
and they're they're almost like the animals that were kept
in captivity. And so it's it's I think it's very funny,
but I think it will also break your heart. Well, no,
that's that's the sad reality of it. It was incredibly

(01:45):
entertaining um in such colorful, funny characters, but at the
end of the day, yeah, you're killing baby tigers, You're
taking advantage of these guys, feeding them drugs. It's a
whole thing. So Travis Maldonado. I remember his name, second
husband right there. How does one prepare for that role?
You watch a lot of Travis or Yeah, so before
the audition I watched a ton of it, and then

(02:07):
once I got the role, I got access to a
lot more footage of him. And there was less of
him than some of the other characters, because sadly he died.
But I got to speak to somebody who knew him,
and she said he was the most universally loved person
at the entire zoo, you know. And I think he
just had a a charm and and and and effortlessness

(02:27):
about him in an innocence, and it was very manipulated
by Joe, and so you know, it becomes very tragic.
But but they say a lot of those guys say
that still when they wake up in the morning, their
first thought as Travis, he meant a lot to them. Nice. Um,
you also got a movie coming out this year, man,
congrats Murder at Immigrant and Lutch. Did I pronounce that? Okay?

(02:47):
I think it's Murder at Iman Immigrant Goals where I
think it got the name got changed anymore. I'm not
even sure what the name is. Okay, got got it
got it, but it's much a blast because that was
my first I always wanted to be in a Western,
and I got to play the bag wait on be spoiler,
but I got to play somebody in a Western, and uh,
and that it was my You know, I grew up
riding horses a little bit, but I hadn't done it
in ten years. And then I just fell in love

(03:09):
with this horse Blue, and I just any time I
had any time off, I just ride the horse. So
I think I might go down there in a couple
of weeks and just work at the horse farm while
I have some time off. I love me a Western.
I've been watching eight three right now. Oh my god,
Classics so good? Right, um so yeah, looking forward to
checking out the film whatever it's titled. Um. You also

(03:30):
recently announce you gonna be in the new Amazon Prime
series The Consultant. Um. That's sort of what a dark
workplace comedy, what's it about? Super super dark satiric comedy
with with Christoph Waltz playing kind of you know, he's awesome,
hitch Botsy dude, He's amazing and we had such a
great time doing the first episode. So we'll start that
up again in in a in a in a month

(03:50):
or so, but it was Yeah, it's a really really wild,
special special show. Um. And then I have an album
coming out with my brother. We we made an album
called Table for Two nice coming out in the fall,
and we're going to do a tour and yeah, so
that'll all be announced soon. But I'm really excited staying busy.
I like that, man, appreciate the hustle. Right there? Where
am I speaking to you from? Right now? I am

(04:11):
in a hotel room in Marina del Rey, probably not
that far from where are you guys? How we're over
here at Universal Studios, so a bit of a John.
You're a New Yorkerston's Journey. I'm a New Yorker, but
I'm out here just for this. This hurts and then
and then I'm shooting the consultant out here, So I'm
trying to find a place. I'm looking around. I really
like this. I'm kind of checking out different areas. Where
do you think I should move? What's funny because every

(04:32):
New Yorker I know always wants to be right by
the beach and right by nature exactly, which which is
nice if your life consists of just being able to
work from home or on that side of town. But
unfortunately all the time, all the studios and everything are
like right in the heart of Hollywood. So you'll be
it'll be a nightmare. It'll be a night rush. So

(04:53):
I I suggest finding up for hell, getting a little closer,
getting a little closer into town, pal um before I
let you go. Now do I want to put you
on the spot? Quick questions, quick answers. Okay, let's do it.
Let's do it. Favorite Joe Exotic song, I Saw a
Tiger and tact all. Man, I love it. When I
got John Cameron Mitchell is a blast awesome word you

(05:15):
like the most? Oh man? I mean, you know the
Penis game where you say it really loud. It's not
like the name penis, but in the Penis game where
you go penis, I think that probably that probably wins
because there's such it's such a childhood it was such
a childhood excitement for me. Penis game. Absolutely. Um. What's
your go to karaoke jam? Um? Probably sweet Child of Mine?

(05:41):
You know, just okay, you can do the air guitar
of the opening. You know, there's there's a lot of
time to um, you know, prep before you start saying yeah,
I'll get everyone going and your dream music collaboration. Um,
Paul McCartney, if you have his number, you just texted
over to me. He just announced he's going on tour.
Maybe hopefully already got I'm already getting tickets for his

(06:03):
l A show. Good for you, man, good for you, well.
Congratulations on everything, Matt, and listen you can catch nat
Wolf in the new series Joe versus Carrol streaming right
now on Peacock. Thanks for checking in, brother, Thanks man,
so nice to see you again. You too. Take care.
