Speaker 1 (00:01):
Mario A little bit. It's a Mario Lopez join mel
On Zoom singer songwriter Nikki. You're welcome to show Man.
How are you? I'm good? Thank you so much for
having me on the show. I'm still to be here.
Thank you for taking the time. Um. Where you from? Originally?
I'm from Orange County, so like an hour south of
l A nice southern Caliboy. Where'd you go to high school? A?

(00:23):
Lisa Niguel High School. Hey, I know that area. It's
nice down there. Man, you've been you spent some time
out here? Oh? Yeah, I'm a southern California kids home
from out here, so yeah, it's the best. What music? What?
What was that you say? I have to say that
I was just rewatching uh Saved by the Bell with
my girlfriend for the last couple of months now. So
it's cool, too cool to say hi and talk to you. Thanks. Man.

(00:46):
I appreciate how old you let me ask you. Wow,
when you were born? I was already done rapping with
the show right there. That's awesome, so I appreciate it. Um.
Would you would you listen to growing up? What kind
of music do you listen to? NIGGI? Um, honestly didn't
really listen to too much grown up, Like I am
the baby of the family, so it's like whenever my
brother and sister were listening to, which was like the

(01:08):
Beatles and like Justin Bieber and the Jonas Brothers for
my sister. Um, it wasn't until like high school that
I got my own taste in music, which was which
was what, um, electronic house music. Yea, yeah right, that
was huge. Uh Sunroof has become a big hit. Take

(01:28):
us back to the origin of that. What was the
birth of that song? Um? Well, I made that song
right at the end of college. Um. I was in
my room and I was sick, but it was like
the best time of my life probably with UM. With
college everything was going really well and I was just
about to graduate. I had made like some of the
best friends ever. So I was just like feeling super happy. Um.

(01:50):
And then I don't know, I was just like sitting
in my room and this random melody came in my
head and it was about a sunroof and I was like, okay,
like ours like that hasn't been done that many times,
Like I can do something with that, And and then
the melody came to my head and I was like,
this is sick, Like I gotta make this one good.
So like twenty three different versions later, and the song

(02:13):
is now what it is here, we are here, we
are what um? Um what you said something right now?
And just it threw me out because it, oh, what's cool?
Did you go to? I would say, you see San Diego, Okay,
you see us? Very good right there? Nice? Um? You
released five new remixes of the song. So all those
different versions, I guess we're in some featuring different artists.

(02:33):
How did you decide who to collab with? Um? Yeah,
I mean that was that was sick. Originally it was
just going to be the k Golden version, which he's
like one of my favorite pop wrap artists at the
moment um, and like I knew of him through Mood obviously,
so I was like, we gotta go with this guy.
He's like super sick um and he's turned out. He
killed it on that and then the other ones. We're

(02:56):
kind of just like randomly by fate. I guess, like
Thomas Rhetz like one of my favorite all time country singers,
so to have him beyond the song is like a
super surreal feeling and I was telling him like, my
mom's probably a bigger fan than I am, and like
all that stuff, and he's just laughing about it. Was
one of the goals with different remixes, to try to

(03:16):
break into some other radio genres, I think so. I
think for me, it was just like get this song
to as many people as possible. Um, And to do that,
I think is like doing it through different genres, so
like each one has a different chance to meet new
people that I have probably was not probably gonna hear
this song originally, especially like the Spanish version, like the

(03:37):
Latin Latin side Manuel killed it, and um, I think
that'll bring a lot of new people to the song.
Smart Another recent single called Never Go Wrong another feel
good song. Were you trying to capture the same vibe
as sign Roof with that one? Yeah, I think so. Um.
I think it's like now that I like have it out,
it reminds me of a song at the end of

(03:58):
like the nineties, like two thousand rom Com where like
everything is going really good, and um, I don't know.
I think it's just like a feeling that I wanted
to capture that was like my phase when I was
watching a lot of rom Colms, So yeah, what about
a full length album? More songs in the works possibly. Um,
there's definitely gonna be an EP in the next couple

(04:18):
of months now, Um, after this remix, after the U.
Now that the remixes are out, the next stuff is
going to be the singles and then an EP and
eventually I'll do an album. But um, I think I
need to gain some more traction before I put out
a full album because I don't think people I would
listen to it quite yet. Well, I saw you on

(04:39):
i G. You performed your first show a few months back. Um,
any live performances or possibly touring coming up? Yeah, I
just signed with an agent, so hopefully have some some
shows coming up soon. I've done free now so I'm
still still walking, but hopefully I'll be running soon. And
those are all super fun. I've loved doing that. Might

(04:59):
do and tours as an opening act for some of
my favorite artists. So we're still trying to figure that out.
But I should be a good team. Oh, you're gonna
have a good time on the road, man young and
on the road. That's gonna be fun. Come back and
talk about that. What what about? What about personal life.
You've got someone special in your life. I have a
girlfriend of about it's gonna be a year in a

(05:20):
couple of days now, so right on, right on. She
didn't get She get very supportive of everything. So she's
liking all the attention and everything. Um, I don't know
if she likes it too much exactly. They never do,
by the way, just so you know, they never do. Well. Listen, uh,
congrats on everything and good luck with everything you've got
coming up. The new remixes to Sunroof are available now

(05:43):
at I Heeart Radio or wherever you get new music. Nikki,
thanks for hanging out man. Nice been you. Yeah, thank
you so much. It's good shotting with you alright, buddy,
take care a little. Pett
