Speaker 1 (00:01):
Mario Lopez, Debora Mario Lopez, Drive Me Now on Zoom
Singer songwriter producer ma met stevee be Welcome to the show.
How are you hey, I'll feel it good? Are you?
Thank you? Oh man, I'm so excited to talk to you.
You were like the soundtrack for me growing up in
high school, back in the day when the Toyota trucks
and the dancing beds used to go with the bass.

(00:24):
We used to bump spring love my cousins and I
so loud. It was unbelievable. So it takes me back,
and that's the beautiful thing about music is that it
is timeless and still holds up and you're still doing
your thing. Congrats on the new single, Take It All Backs,
got a little bit of a throwback sound. Was that intentional? Yes, intentionally.
I was just trying to find a way in. You know,

(00:45):
radio is a tough haul right now, and you don't
know what they like. They kind of abandoned us long
time ago. Now they'll play the retro stuff, but they've
can I curse sure. They treat us like we're dead.
I'm like, we ain't dead. Oh we're all we play
your old stuff, but I wonder if I got some

(01:05):
new that's better than I just had a thing with
a radio station in Canada. They see Stevie, we don't
play anything new by the artists, but we'll play their
old stuff. I'm like, that's the dumb thing I ever heard.
I'm like, we're not dead yet, bro, It's exactly it. No,
And you look fantastic. Man. You even got Pitbull to
collab on the remix. How did I come together? Yeah, well,

(01:26):
he did that originally on spring Love that he wanted
to do with me years ago, and I had that
vocal in the studio. I already had it in file,
and when we were doing the remix, it just works
so well. And Felix Sama DJ Sama out of Miami,
right and all of us, all of us whore up
in that whole Miami vibe. So Sama knew and when

(01:46):
he heard, he says, I gotta put Pitt on this.
It's gonna work well. Politically it works well too, you know. Yeah,
but uh, it worked really fine. And then you know,
we added Dreaming spring Loove gave it that throwback feel. Yeah,
and then the new new field is you know, let's
just tell everybody, let's take it all back. Everybody misses it, bro,
I agree? I agree, man? And is this part of

(02:06):
a new album possible or just a one off single? Well,
you know, I have a material, but nobody's doing like
the album thing anymore. I don't think it makes any sense.
But I have enough material and U and if it
makes sense to do, you know the thing called an album.
I always keep hying bro, always Yeah, let him love
this one first? Yeah, yeah, I get you. And coming

(02:28):
up on Friday, Man, the Freestyle Explosion, Throwback, Jam you, Lisa,
Lisa Taylor, Dane, whole bunch more. What's in store for everyone?
You know, they're gonna get what Steviebe has been giving
for the last thirty five years, and that's nothing but energy.
Hopefully all my Signus stuff will be cleared up. I
came back from Rio on Monday and all the allergies

(02:52):
just came on me hard. But yeah, yeah, my eyes,
my eyes is I mean so I've been recovering from that,
but I think my voice will you ready, But they're
gonna get that energy, They're gonna get that vibe, and
we're gonna take them all back, all the way back.
I cannot wait. I'm planning to be there, so I'm
excited about that. Um, I got your tickets. I got
your tickets, Bro, I got your ticket. I know you've

(03:13):
been you've been talking to instruments. I know you do.
Thank you. Good looking out? Yeah, yeah, you're good. You're good. Okay,
good looking out. Um. Show, of course is gonna be
a big dance party. But I like that. You used
to perform some ballads like because I Love You. That's
the jam right there. You gonna slow it down once
in a while, right, Oh, that's in the that's in
the lineup. It's kind of hard not to do that,
and uh spring love you can you can't. You gotta

(03:34):
do those two. You gotta do it. You got it.
And what about the hairstyle from back in the day?
What what? What? What inspired that look? Because I think
I used to rock a version of that. I'll tell you.
I was just trying to do some different Mario, you know,
just something different from what everybody else. And you gotta
remember there was no roadmap for us h when this
when our music first broke. So either you're gonna be

(03:56):
trending from the rock side, or you're gonna be trade
from the R and b or something you're gonna borrow
from somebody, And I kind of took a little bit
from everybody. I just wanted to be strange and different
and let the music speak for itself. And then once
you start to perform, I was already old man. Party
a body came out. I was already twenty nine years old,

(04:17):
fine as a young man. Right there, right there, right there.
We've also got a podcast Freestyling with STEVB. What you
talk about on there, well, you know, I kind of
do the same thing you do. I chit chat and
you just freestyling. You know, there's no no no, no bars, hold,
no holding on the bars, and people get to say
what they want to say. We want to talk about

(04:37):
interesting stuff, keep it quick, keep it moving. But people
like that, and they don't get a chance to talk,
uh with the people from our genre. In a lot
of ways, they kind of us a little bit. It's
not like they don't let us into the grammy stuff.
They don't excuse my French. You know, I can't. I
can't say that. You're gonna believe it. You're good, You're good.

(04:59):
I'll be believing you are good. You'll be bleeping you.
You're gonna be bleeping. But this is just the way
I am. See, I'm freestyling right now. I like it.
But they do they do in the industry has this
thing where they don't recognize quote unquote freestyle that much.
And uh, but they don't know we're selling out arenas
and a lot of the people who they think are

(05:20):
big styling and big time and doing the business that
we're doing. So uh, you know, we talk about everyday
stuff music industry stuff and try to bring something fresh
that they never get a chance to see or hear
from people in our genre. That is awesomele the genre again,
it's timeless. I love it and sort of a lot
of people. Because YouTube Theater, I know it is sold out,

(05:40):
beautiful venue here in LA and you can get ticket
info for the Freestyle Explosion Throwback jam at on with
Mario dot Com. Stevie. Thanks so much for checking in
and taking the time. I man, I look forward to
seeing you in person. Well, I appreciate you, brother, thank you,
and I'll see you on. I'm gonna see you on
a Saturday night show right correct, at the Saturday night show. Okay, okay,
because you know we do Palm Springs, the night before.

(06:02):
That's right, that's right now. I'll be in La at
YouTube on Saturday. So yes, thank you so much, appreciate
you see see Saturday. Brother, all right, take care with
