Speaker 1 (00:00):
On with Mario Littbitsbro. Mario Lopez joining me now on
Zoom Singer choreographer, Broadway star Toddrick Hall. Welcome to show Man.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
How you been. I'm fantastic, good to see you.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Nice to see you too. You just kicked off the
Velvet Rage Tour, your ninth touring stage show. Congratulations. Tell
me about this one.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
This is kind of you know, I've been inspired by
Beyonce and Taylor Swift of course, who are doing sort
of a celebration of all of the eras, and so
this is celebrating a lot of different eras of my career,
starting from YouTube to creating albums. I like my concerts
because they're kind of like a hybrid of like a
rockstar concert and a Broadway musical, which I know you're
(00:43):
a big fan of. I saw you in a chorus line.
By the way, it's incredible. Thank you, You're welcome. And
so the show has a lot of costumes that has
a really cool theme. I've always been a huge fan
of the Wizard of Oz. The show starts in black
and white and then eventually goes through the entire color
will until we end up in a big rainbow. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
I think I may have told you before, since you
mentioned the Wizard of Oz and you mentioned YouTube my daughter,
as you were my first born, I must have seen
the Wizard of Oz bit you did on that, which
was awesome by the way, so I didn't mind seeing
it at least three thousand times. She was on a
constant loop and she that's what she wanted to be
(01:23):
for Halloween for I don't know how many halloweens. So
I'm sure you've heard this from a lot of parents,
but it really was impressive. It was great man, and
I love you're so self sufficient you you actually produce
these tours on your own, right. What would you say
is the most difficultart about putting something like this together.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
I think that it's just very rare for one person
to be producing, choreographing, doing the styling, you know, getting
everything together. I think the hardest part is just being
able to have the stamina to be able to do
all of those jobs. Because one of those things that
you know, I mean, even just the lighting isn't great,
or the costumes aren't great, are the visuals aren't great?
(01:59):
The show can really her. But I think to have
one person driving the train and making it cohesive, makes
the audience really experience the show in a like more
cohesive smooth way. So that's why I wear so many hats.
But hopefully one day I will have a team around
me where I don't. I don't. I don't wear those
hats because I want to. It's out of necessity.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Hey, the quarterback of the team. I can respect that.
Your album Roach Killers. That's a great title, by the way,
this year, what sounds an artists are inspiring your music currently?
You mentioned Beyonce and Taylor as far as the tour itself,
but what about the sound.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
I think that. I mean I have been going through
a wrap phase lately. I mean I love I Spice,
I love everything that Cardi does. I have definitely gone
back and listened to a lot of Nicki Minaj because
in my mind, she is just the best wordsmith and
she has the most clever, witty punchlines, and it has
(02:59):
just really a huge persona. I heard someone once say
that the people who really make a mark on the
music industry are people that you could dress up as
or imitate and someone would immediately know who they are.
And when you think about the greatest people to ever
do at the Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson's, the Beyonces of
the world, and Nicki Minaj. In my opinion, someone can
(03:20):
do something and you immediately know that's her, and so
she's somebody who's really inspired this year of music for me.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Oh that's cool, man, that's cool. I agree with you
on all those names you just dropped as well. And
I know a while back, speaking of Beyonce, you you
choreographed the roller skating scenes in the Blow video. That's
got to be a lot more difficult than the usual
dance routine. I'm assuming it's just roller skates back with
that usher corporating it. I'll try to take my kids
(03:48):
the other day. Man, you wipe out now. That shit hurts.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
I can't even imagine going roller skating with these kids,
and they're probably fearless. I can't even imagine what your
kids are doing the roller skating ring. But yeah, it
was cool. But she was so talented and so, I mean,
you just imagine Beyonce to be a flawless human. The
fact that she ever fell and was documented is like
one of the only reasons I believe she's not a robot.
(04:13):
But like, yeah, it was really really cool. To just
be able to be there and to watch her do
something that she had done in her childhood. We filmed
it in Houston, Texas and a roller skating rink that
she grew up skating in, and to watch her do
it was such a cool moment because you sort of
in your mind photoshopped a younger version of Beyonce skating around.
(04:34):
You could tell she was very familiar with the area
and it was a really special moment for her to
return to something that was her old stomping ground. That
was so cool to see.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
That is cool. That is cool because wouldn't experience right there. Hey,
I saw on your socials that coyote has been chilling
in your pool? What's up with that? How's that working out?
Speaker 2 (04:50):
My goodness, wasn't that wild. I have a family of
coyotes that live behind me, and I kind of feel
like coyotes get a bad rap because you know, you
see these videos of them like attacking people, both dogs
and cats, and I am a cat owner myself, so
it is really sad. But you know, notes need love too,
And as Mufasta said in The Lion King, it's a
great circle of lies. So I honestly thought the coyotes
(05:13):
were cute, and I have to stop myself from going
out to play with them because I'm sure that they
are more dangerous than they look, but from a distance,
they just look so cute. And I had to post
that video online because I was like, Wow, this girl
is just fully lounging out of my on my couch
like she's just a queen. Like she moved in.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
You must give off really good vibes because coyotes usually
just don't kick it.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yeah, she's got on a little vacation spot and she
was like, you know what, I'm just gonna live in
my truth right now. I love it.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Hey, and you finally went is official with your boyfriend
after six months? Why not sooner? You just you want
to make sure.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
You know how the internet could be. It's twenty twenty three.
Everybody has an opinion and things to say, and I
think that you want to really make sure that the
relationship is going to be solid. And you know, we
call it gay years, Like six months is like five
straight years, you know what I mean. Like there's so
many opportunities, and the gays are just out here like
really like you know, like rolling through a Rolodex of
(06:18):
men sometimes and so I'm like, let me give it
half a year before I go official with it. And yeah,
it was really cute. His family was really excited about
it and he was stoked. And I didn't tell him
I was going to post it. I just like posted
it as a surprise. Right on.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
