Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is on with Mario Lopez. A Mario Lopez joining
me now on Zoom from The Goldbergs and Reno nine
one actors Wendy McClendon Covey. Welcome to the show, Wendy Hyven. Great,
thanks for having me. Oh, thanks for taking the time.
Congrats on all the success of The Goldbergs ten seasons.
I saw you recently on my show Access day that
(00:22):
we were talking about it. What do you remember about
the first day on set? Gosh, the first day on set,
I remember being very um chaotic because none of us
really knew each other and we hadn't done like any
chemistry tests or anything. We just kind of saw each
other at one table read and then it was like
(00:43):
off to the races. Wow. So you know, we were
all a little a little nervous about that. And then
to meet Sean Gambroni for the first time because we
really had never met him, we never even seen him
at a table read. And then all of a sudden,
this little genius boy comes walking up with his glasses
(01:05):
and we're like instantly in love. And that's one of
the the greatest things ever was was working with Sean. Wow,
I'm watching you grow up. Yeah, that's so interesting with
no chemistry tests or anything in video obviously worked out great. Um,
just a few episodes. Laugh. What can you tease us?
As we head towards the finale, Well, you're gonna take
(01:31):
a trip into the mind of pop pop played by
the legendary Judd Hirsch. Hey, the legendary Oscar nominee. Judd
Hurt's right Adam is gonna go nosing around in his
apartment and find that Oh wait, pop pop has a
rich imagination, has been writing short stories all these years.
(01:52):
What we're gonna see bev try to go to a
high school reunion, which are always so much fun, are
they not? I mean, yeah, I don't even yours, but
I absolutely had mine, and I don't. I don't know
why we even do them anymore, because with social media now,
you can always just kind of reunite with who you
want to reunite with, you know what everyone's doing anyway,
(02:14):
exactly exactly. But we didn't have those options in the eighties. No,
we did not. Yeah, so we're gonna see that. We're
gonna see, um, a couple of love situations blossom. Okay,
all right, sounds like you're gonna keep you entertained up
until the last minute. You're happy with the way everything's
(02:36):
gonna get wrapped up. Um, I am, I am, because
it leaves it open for a reboot should that ever occur,
for a holiday film or something like, Okay, it'll It
leaves it open to, like, hey, in case you want
to check back with these crazy people in ten years
(02:56):
or so, you have something to work with. Yes, that's
the way to do with there. Um. And you've already
got another pilot in the works, a comedy called is
It Saint Dennis Medical? That's right, that's right. Allowed to
talk a little bit about that or yeah. So it
takes place in a in a medical center in Portland,
(03:16):
Oregon that is one of those safety hospitals where they
take everybody regardless of your ability to pay or whatever.
So the trials and tribulations of working in a place
like that, and I play the hospital administrator who's constantly
trying to fund raise and get new equipment, but something
(03:38):
else breaks and blah blah blah. It's kind of like
the office, but sat in the hospital fun fun for you.
And also coming up in April, I'm looking forward to
paint with Owen Wilson looking like Bob Ross. What is
it essentially a lose version based on him or just
inspired by him? You know what? The look is totally
(04:00):
inspired by him and the fact that he is a
painter on PBS. But that's really it has nothing to
do with Bob Ross. And he's got this um, you know,
harem of weird women that kind of have been following
him around for decades. For instance, my character has not
(04:20):
stopped wearing Juicy sweats since he told her he liked
them twenty or thirty years ago. I'm a fan of juice,
very flattering on When I'm a big fan, you're gonna
rock anything that's a great one to rock. But when
you wear the same juicy sweats for like that many years,
(04:41):
you know, it starts to be a little sad. Like
they're all they're all kind of stuck in the past,
got it, and they all need to kind of grow
up in a big way. But it's it's just a weird,
funny movie, and I mean, I just had the best time.
Owen is larious, he really is, and he's so understated.
(05:05):
I swear he whispers most of his line. But he's
so damn funny and MICHAELA. Watkins is in it. Ciarra
renee Lucia Strew's Stephen Root. I mean so many good funny,
heavy hitters. I mean there were times when I laughed
(05:25):
so hard that I was asked to leave, like if
I could not behave Leasley. So we can get this
shot because you're ruining it every single thing. That's a
good tease right there. Okay, yeah, definitely gonna check that out.
I just saw your cat walk behind you right now,
and it reminded me that on ig you bought a
(05:47):
stroller for your cat. Yeah, yes, which is not weird. Okay,
so don't even tell me that it is not. Didn't
say anything. You have quite a few from what I remember, right,
don't you have quite a few cats? Yeah? We have
seven seven cats. Oh, yes, that's a lot. I would
explode if I walk into your house because I'm so allergic.
(06:08):
These are so allergic. Oh my god. I had I
used to date this girl right a while back, and
she had a couple of cats, and I would walk
in and I would get swollen. So I had to
take um the allergy medicine before I got there. But
it got to the point it got to the point
where like, yo, I can't I can't see this and
she was hot, but I was like, I can't see
this girl anymore because I'm gonna explode every time. It's
(06:28):
not worth it. I'm just gonna feel like a junkie
every time I walk into her house. True story. But
I love that you were in it to win it,
so you're just like, I'm gonna pop some Benadrill's exactly.
I want this to work. It's right. I was Matt sleepy,
but we were hooking up and it was working out.
But the cats, yeah, I just can't roll with that.
That's beautiful. I love. But listen, congratulations on everything you've
(06:51):
got going on. Always enjoy watching you and your projects.
And you can watch the serious finale of The Goldbergs
May third on ABC. Windy, thanks for taking the time today.
Thank you so much for having me. Okay, let's see it.
Thank you. M on with Mario Lopez
