(00:27):
a Friday, live in Los Angeles. This is the Herd.
Wherever you may be, and however you may be listening
Fox Sports Radio and right here on FS one. Steve Burline,
Chris brus T, J Hushman, Zada loaded today. Lots of thoughts. Um,

(00:49):
it's kind of a brand new start. Last night I
thought it was a very good presentation by NBC in
the NFL H no complaints. The fog shield a little
weird for Andy Reid. It was like getting all fogged up.
I couldn't see Andy Reid in there. I had ribs
last night at home in honor of Kansas City and
the Chiefs. They were very delicious, and so it was

(01:09):
the Chief's offense. So put ball's back looks sounds like
it always mostly has right. It was a great night
I thought for the NFL ever sports, it was just
it's just great. I really am so impressed with all
the leagues and everything and everyone, the production, coaches, NBC, NFL,
everyone's an amazing job. I'm really looking forward to Sunday.
All Right, here we go, we're debuting. Are blazing five.

(01:31):
I've been doing this for ten fifteen years. Love betting,
NFL my favorite sport. We had a rough last month
in the NFL, really stunk in the playoffs, but we
were great the year before. So here we go. Let's
blaze it off. Fired up. It's Collins blazing five. Browns
at a raven. I rarely swallow over a touchdown, but

(01:52):
I'm gonna take Baltimore minus seven and a half. Here's
a little interesting thing. Nobody's worse the last fifteen years
than the Ounds on opening games. Why because they're always
changing stuff. Oh wait, they change stuff again. It's a
new coaching staff. Cleveland beat Baltimore last year. Okay, Baltimore's

(02:14):
not overlooking Cleveland. Remember last year, Browns went into and
just punch them in the throat, and Baltimore's fully aware
of it. Also, not only are the Browns bad in
week one. They haven't won since two thousand and five.
They're last in wins, point differential, and turnover differential. The
Ravens led the NFL in rushing and I believe their

(02:34):
rushing game will be better. And this is a testament
to John Harball and coaching. Ravens have held their opponents
to ten points or fewer in the last four season openers.
That's what great defensive coaches do all summer. They figure
out that opener. I don't like to swallow a lot
of points, but I'm taking the Ravens big thirty three

(02:57):
to twenty Jets at Bills. I'll take the Jets plus
six and a half. And here's why Josh Allen was
bad last year. He's pretty good against Dallas and that's
the game you watched, right, But Josh Allen was last
in passing yards, passing, touchdowns, completion percentage, passing rating among
quarterbacks over the last two years with a minimum twenty

(03:18):
five starts. He's been bad. The coaching staff is great.
He's not been good. He wasn't good as last year
at Wyoming. The Bills have scored fewer than twenty points
in each of their last five games. Last year, including
the playoff loss. Now, I don't like the fact Jamal
Adams is gone, but C. J. Mosey was gone last
year too. Six and a half points when I get
the better quarterback, and there's no question the Jets have

(03:40):
upgraded at wide receiver, tied end an offensive line. Buffalo
may win twenty four. Twenty six and a half is
way too many points to give the Jets. Buffalo weather
won't be an issue. They've got some new personnel me
outside that I think will be a handful for the Bills.
Bill's win. Love the Jets plus six and a half.

(04:04):
Seahawks at Falcon like it. I love it. I'll take
Atlanta plus two and a half my pick of the weekend.
Falcon's played really well last year, won their last four,
and they won six of their last eight to support
their coach. He may get fired, but they like him.
And Matt Ryan has figured out Pete Carroll. They faced
each other seven times. Matt Ryan's five and two, his

(04:25):
passer ratings over one hundred sixteen teens four picks. Matt
Ryan's done really well against Pete carroll defenses, and this
is not one of Pete Carroll's great defenses. Also, for
all their issues, Matt Ryan's not the problem. The offense
isn't the problem. It was a top five offense last
year playing at home, and they were a top three
passing offense. And remember this, as much as I love

(04:47):
Russell Wilson, it is really hard in the NFL to
go on the road cross country against a Pro Bowl
level quarterback when you Seattle have a significantly worse offensive
line and defensive line. That's hard to do in the NFL.
We're going into a stadium on the road. We have
easily the worst O line in D line in the game.

(05:12):
Atlanta's getting points, Atlanta's gonna win it, twenty four to
twenty three. Raiders at Panthers. I know, I know, I know,
I know a bunch of new stuff for Carolina. But
can I just say something. Of course I can. It's
my show. Teddy Bridgewater is good. I'll show you something funny.
Best winning percentage is a starting quarterback in the last

(05:33):
five years minimum twenty starts. Lamar Garoppolo, Brady Mahomes Teddy
Bridgewater that he's sixteen and six, and he's also has
a history of walking into a playbook and figuring it
out he's got a lot of college starts, he's got
some NFL starts. This is a guy they inserted into
New Orleans last year. He was ready to go. He
does not make mistakes. He's got a world class running back.

(05:54):
I've always thought their wide receiver who are underrated. The
offensive line is good enough, middle of the pack. Now. Offensively,
they're in a rebuild and they put a lot of
their draft picks on the defensive side. But the Raiders
were a bad team last year. Not just on defense
Week twelve on. The Raiders were bad offensively with all
those weapons. It's a Gruden Derek Carr issue. The Raiders

(06:16):
were a bad road team two and six and lost
outscored by ninety points. Worst road point differenti in the NFL.
I don't like all the change in Carolina, but I'm
getting over a field goal from a quarterback that wins,
figures out playbooks, and has arguably the best running back
coach and a new creative head coach. I'm gonna take

(06:38):
Carolina to beat the Raiders. Twenty eight twenty seven Cowboys
at Rams. I think the Rams were the better team
and they're getting point at home. I'm gonna take Los
Angeles plus three. First of all, the Cowboys only had
seven defensive interceptions last year. Translation, they don't make offenses uncomfortable.
They don't. The Rams O line is healthy, same orback,

(07:00):
same coach, same system, same left tackle, same wide receivers,
same tight end. It's a good Rams team with a
super hyper creative head coach Sean mcvahan. Season openers, this
is what creative head coaches do. He's three and zero,
average thirty six points. Two of the three wins came
by plus twenty points. Jared Goff, by the way, for
all the heat he gets in the last four weeks,

(07:23):
average three hundred thirty yards passing second best in the NFL,
higher than Mahomes. Why Cooper Cup, Robert Woods good tight ends.
By the way, Cam Akers, rookie running back out of
Florida State, has been the talk of the camp, as
has Van Jefferson, wide receiver from Florida. I think Dallas,
if they played in a month, maybe the better team.

(07:43):
But I think this is continuity. Been a quiet camp.
The Rams are healthy, The walking on eggshell girly thing
is gone. I like the Rams to win this game
in their new stadium, twenty eight to twenty seven. A
lot of points scored here. That is my blazing five.
So I like one big favorite. I like Baltimore to roll.

(08:06):
Then I'm gonna take the Jets and points, the Falcons
and points, Carolina and points and the Rams and points.
I gotta be honest with you. Every week I think
I'm gonna go five, and oh, every dang week, I
think I'm gonna go five and oh. The pick I
didn't go with, but I was really close was Miami
plus six and a half at Foxborough. But the Cam factor,

(08:28):
I do think the secondary for New England is sensational,
and I just think to myself, it's gonna be ugly,
it's gonna be this seventeen, sixteen, twenty twenty one, and
it's just I don't know, I don't know. I just
think it's gonna be ugly and unpredictable and some turnovers
and a bunch of new stuff for both teams. So
I stayed away from that. I do like Miami to win,

(08:50):
but I just you know, Foxborough does weird things. Belichick
and Foxboro win games they shouldn't all the time. All right, Oh,
I gotta get to this. This is the power of
the NFL like we all watch great NBA. NBA Finals
we watch We're gonna watch Clippers, Lakers. We watch if
the you know, the Dodgers get to the World Series.

(09:11):
We watch great. We watch Ohio State, Michigan, we watch
Alabama LSU. We watch great all the time in sports,
the power of the NFL over every other sport. We
don't watch bad NBA. We don't watch bad baseball. We
don't watch bad hockey. We don't watch bad college basketball teams.
We don't watch crappy college football teams. The power of

(09:33):
the NFL. I cannot wait to watch the number one
tanking team in the league this year, hosting the least
athletic quarterback in twenty years, Jags Colts. Can't wait. I
think it's fascinating why the Tankers and old Man Rivers,

(09:57):
because it's funny about the Chargers, and I'm friends with
their GM, and I grew up liking the Chargers a lot.
They had Dan Fouts, and they had Chuck Munsey and
John Jefferson and Kellen Winslow. They were just crazy, wild
fund They've they've always been kind of a fun franchise
with a lot of a lot of great playmakers Ladanian,
Tomlins and then others. But with Philip Rivers, you know,

(10:19):
it's always the I wonder if Eli would have gone
to the Chargers and Philip Rivers to the more stable
New York Giants, would their careers be different? In fourteen
years with the Chargers, Philip Rivers had a top five
defense once a decade ago. The Chargers kicking woes are
laughably well documented. Battle line from time to time, no

(10:41):
home field advantage the last couple of years or this year,
if he would have played, I got you know, I
got nothing against the Chargers. But it's been an organization
with chaos. And now you go to the best young
offensive line with I think two of the best offensive
draft picks Michael Pickman receiver US see Jonathan Taylor running
back Wisconsin. A rock solid general manager and head coach

(11:05):
Jim Ursey can be impulsive, but it's a really stable organization.
And so Philip Rivers goes to an organization where there
were holdouts and no home field and rarely a great defense.
And just I mean there's you know, there's the old
saying like like with the Chargers is you know, the
Chargers lose, like nobody else can lose in the NFL,
they outplay it and lose, and the Colts have often

(11:26):
been the opposite. They're not they're a little vanilla. They're
not over the top, they're not the most marketable, they're
not the most but they win a lot of games,
and I like him to win their division this year.
I cannot wait to see Philip Rivers in a new environment.
Like Tom Brady, he had stability, so it's not like
it's anything new. But the Chargers have always been a
little rocky. I mean, last couple of years, they've been

(11:48):
playing in a soccer stadium basically as a road team.
They had to they had to literally, you know, they
couldn't hear at home. So I'm fascinated to watch Philip
Rivers with the Colts. I have him winning the division.
I think they could win this game. This was one
of the games I considered, but I just don't know.
I just don't know what I'm gonna get with the Chargers,
Frank Reich and Philip Rivers. But I'm excited because I

(12:10):
do think this is the best young offensive line in
the NFL. Steve Burline CBS coming up next, Chris Brussard
as well Lakers drub the Rockets, that a series appears
to be over all that coming up, one more Herd.
The Herd streams twenty four hours a day, seven days
a week within the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd to listen
live or on demand whenever you like. Fox NFL Sunday

(12:34):
is back this week with a great slate of early games.
Then it's a blockbuster in America's Game of the Week
as Brady and the new look Bucks take on Breeze
and the Saints. Check local listings for the games in
your area, or watch it on the Fox Sports App
and make sure you get your Super six picks in
before kickoffs Sunday. For your chance to win Terry Broadshaw's
one hundred thousand dollars and for top stories, scores, and more,

(12:57):
go to the Fox Sports app call and give us
your winner and final four. But Saints about thirty four
to twenty seven. Saints a lot of points. Remember Tampa
Bay's special teams kicking woes in Tampa could be the difference.
I also think they have a right tackle of rookie
Tristan Worths trying to block Cameron Jordan, which is a
rough opening assignment. So I would take the Saints to

(13:18):
win good stuff. Steve Burline played seventeen years in the NFL,
and that is you know that you're getting into a
Brady scenario here where you have an early career along
mid career and then you're the old guy. You're just
trying to get through. And Steve Burline is now joining
us from Orange County via the Coward Global Satellite Network.
So you know, I was saying, what, Tom Brady, it's

(13:40):
interesting because once you get hit for enough years, Eli
Manning let go of that ball fast. He didn't want
to get hit. Tom doesn't want to get hit. He
did not want to sit in the pocket. But Tampa's offense,
Steve has it, got a lot of deep threats. This
is a downfield offense and a downfield head coach. Take
me kind of into the psychology of Tom now, who

(14:00):
is a slot receiver running back. Get it out until
now Tom hold it for a second and half a
beat and a half longer with a young offensive line.
Is that going to be interesting to you? Well, it
definitely is, and you nail it right on the head. Colin.
As far as what has as far as comparing Brady

(14:20):
to others, he does not hold the football very long.
He never has, but he's never had weapons like he
has now in Tampa Bay. And it's going to be
very exciting to see what Bruce Area has decides to
do with Tom Brady. Is he gonna ask him to
stand in there longer and hang onto the ball a
little bit longer, which will result in more hits and

(14:41):
on a forty plush your whole body, that's going to
take a toll. And you know, we all know even
today in today's game, where the quarterbacks don't get hit
like they used to, and for God's sakes, you can't
even fall on the quarterback these days. But the bottom
line is that Brady is with those receivers on the outside,
he's going to probably be expected to try to make
some more plays up field and it's going to be

(15:02):
pretty interesting to see how that works out for him
over the course of the season. So I thought what
was most impressive about Patrick Mahomes last night, Steve was
We've always known he's got he's a gunslinger, and Farv
was gunslinger when he came in and gunslinger when he
went out. But Mahomes comes in with the flamethrower and
last night he was a surgeon. He was incredibly effective.

(15:24):
He only threw the ball, only attempted one throw over
twenty yards, and it was like, oh, oh good, now
he's efficient. Oh great? How long did it take? And
by the way, to be able to be efficient, you
got to be able to read defenses. So here we go,
very early in his career, he is seeing the game
and thinking the game, not just playing the game. How

(15:45):
long did it take you to get there? Well, I
think it takes truly takes at least three full seasons
as a quarterback to really feel like you have the
command of knowing all the intricacies of your offense, really
being on the same page with the coaching staff and

(16:05):
the rest of your teammates, and understanding defense is really
is the key. Defenses in the NFL are so complex,
and Patrick Mahomes has made it look so easy for
the first few years of his career. He's going to
only get better in terms of his understanding of defense
and his understanding of how to break down at defense
and take advantage of opportunities. So I think, you know,

(16:29):
when we get about halfway through this contract that he
just signed, we're going to realize that he's still getting better,
he's still getting smarter, and if he can stay healthy
that obviously he's going to do things that haven't been
done before. But what he did last night seventy five
didn't push the ball up the field. I think Andy
Reid understanding the uniqueness of this season. There hasn't been

(16:51):
any hitting, there hasn't been any preseason games. I don't
think he wanted to put anybody at risk yesterday. I
wanted to just keep the ball getting out at a Mahomes'
hands quickly, have him get quick opportunities in front of him.
With Kelsey early we saw Sammy Watkins jump out to
a great start to his season like we did last year.
We'll see if he can maintain throughout the course of

(17:13):
the season. But I think all all any Read was
trying to do with that game yesterday was get Patrick
Mahomes through that game healthy, as team healthy, get the
W and move on to the next one. So Teddy
Bridgewaters got a a new team and a new coach,
and Kevin Stefanski Baker's got a new coach, and Dax
got a new coach. You were on let's see sixties

(17:35):
Panthers Cardinals, Cowboys brought Raiders Jackson, You were on six teams.
How long does it take when the new coaching staff
comes in and or you inherit a a new staff
and a new team. How long does it take to
not think as much as just play. Well, it's a
it's like one of a new link language. Truly, It's

(17:56):
like being dropped in Mexico or whatever else. And even
though you're saying the same things and the game is
the same, trying to learn that foreign language and speak
on the same wavelength as the coaching staff and get
everybody to understand the new code words and the little
intricacies of the offense, it does take time. And as

(18:18):
I said a minute ago, this offseason was so unique,
they did not have the time to put in and
really go through those OTAs and go through a normal
training camp and execute in game situations. I think those
teams with new coaches, especially with a quarterback who hasn't
been through that kind of a transition before. Tom Brady's
another one. He's never had to learn a new offense.

(18:40):
And so the bottom line is that we're going to
see what their capabilities are in terms of being able
to adjust and adapt and learn a new system, speak
a new language, and still play effectively and efficiently. And
it's I guarantee that some of these guys are going
to struggle. A lot of it's going to fall on
how established that coaches, how great he is understanding the

(19:02):
way to teach that offense and give it to him
and kind of a piecemeal type of a format, and
then also really just trying to set up game plans
to play to the strengths and weaknesses of that quarterback.
That'll go a long way, and determine how efficient these
guys are, especially early in the season. Seventeen years in
the league, Steve Berlin, so, Doug Peterson's never lost an opener,

(19:25):
He's four and oh. Andy Reid's best month is September.
Sean mcvays three and o and openers. You do get
offensive coaches sit there with a noteboard or a yellow
pad all summer and they write down plays, and they
steal plays and they write. Andy Reid sent me text
before he shows me he's got a new play dialed up.
And I look at this Dallas Rams matchup and I think,

(19:47):
you know, McCarthy's a new coach. He's kind of conservative,
and I can see McVeigh coming out. He's got same
left tackle, same system, same quarterback, same top two receivers.
He's got a little new running back situation. I don't
think it's a great matchup for the Cowboys week one.
Give me your thoughts about in your career offensive coaches

(20:08):
Week one or two. They bring a lot of exotics
in Do you have experience with that? Oh? Yeah, for sure,
and offensive coaches. I always as a quarterback, you always
wanted to be with one of those creative offensive minds
that you know every single week is going to find
a way to set up those big play opportunities and

(20:28):
really figure out the way that he wants the game
to flow. Into the first fifteen plays, you're always trying
to get a real feel for how the defense is
going to adjust to some of those formations where you're
going to have your shot plays later on in the game.
You want to know how that defense has adjusted to
seeing those formations and those personnel groups early in the

(20:52):
game so you can set up those plays later. But
I do think you're reading it right with McCarthy in
the new offense with Dak Prescott, I think they're going
to be at a little bit of a disadvantage going
to this game, as Sean McCarthy has been licking his
chops getting ready to call those first fifteen and get
this season going off on the right note. His players
are all very familiar with the system. It definitely is

(21:14):
an advantage for the teams that have had an established
system for over a year over the teams that have
not had that normal offseason and a chance to really
get their team comfortable with the new system and how
things are going to be good done during the course
of a football game. So I like the way you're
reading this one. I think the Rams in this first

(21:34):
game against the Cowboys at home is going to be
a good matchup for them. By the way, what do
you make of Dallas. I don't like this matchup this week.
I'm not as high as everybody else. I joke yesterday.
They're like a house that needed to fix the plumbing
and they just repainted it. I think from the outside
it just looks wonderful Philadelphia. If I look at Philadelphia,

(21:57):
they had to address wide receiver did in the draft,
cornerback did with Darius Slay. They're not as sexy, not
as appealing when you drive by the house, but I
think they're electrical and there plumbings better. Dallas to me
first draft pick with Ceedee Lamb. The last thing they
needed was another wide receiver, So I do think there's
you know, I think on the outside, Dallas looks great.
I just wonder about the secondary and aging offensive line.

(22:20):
What do you make of their season? If I roll
the dice, what do you think Dalla's going to be.
That's one of the big questions this year. I think
that McCarthy was the right hire for sure. I don't
think they could have done a better job in terms
of who they selected to be the head coach. He's
been there one Super Bowls before, been a consistent winner.
He's gonna help Dak reach new levels in terms of

(22:44):
his production as a quarterback. But that still is a
big question mark in minement. I think Dak still has
an awful lot to prove. You know, they started out
three and oh last year and then over the last
thirteen games he went five and eight. So that's not
what you want out of your franchise quarterback. He's got
to be a guy that can up up and make
plays at the end of games to give you a
chance to win and have a chance to get into

(23:04):
those playoffs. But you're right, Ceedee Lamb as attractive as
he was, and I'm sure he was the popular pick
in terms of a local guy who can come in
and really be another playmaker for this offense. When you
talk about what that team needed, there's a lot of
different ways they could have gone. Did they get better
in terms of an overall team, that's a that's a

(23:26):
big question. And that defense, that defensive backfield is going
to be tested from week one against a very good,
prolific Rams passing game. They're going to be tested on
Sunday and we're going to see how they do. But
you're right. I mean, Jerry Jones has not been able
to put it all together as the decision maker since
Jimmy Johnson left back in the mid nineties, and this

(23:49):
may be another example of that they've got They've got
to find a way to make these picks and these
decisions that they're making show up in terms of going
into into the playoffs and making a deep n one
of these years. Steve Burlin, good stuffs, good sing you.
We'll talk soon, all right, call and take care. By
the way, here's Mahomes last night we were talking. He
went from a gun slinger. Farv was a gun slinger

(24:11):
the day he came in and the day left. He
never was hyper efficient. Even the year in Minnesota when
he was really efficient, he ended up going gunslinger. Interception
cost him a chance on the Super Bowl. Mahomes last
night seventy five percent completion percentage hundred and twenty three
passer Raider rating, only one ball thrown over twenty yards
down field, only three completions over ten yards. He went

(24:32):
sports car to Tesla. He went surgical last night, which
is terrifying. And a lot of these guys Jeff George
Brett Farve a Big Ben to a large degree. They
come in with huge arms and they fall in love
with their arm. Things are easier, they can throw the
ball downfield, and that's what they like. Mahomes has the
ability to do that, and last night said, okay, but
the next level is can I be super efficient? That's

(24:54):
one of my knocks on Big Ben. Big Benzell's a
great deep ball, but boy he can be erratic. He
can miss guys right out of the backfield twelve yards away.
And I think it's really saying something when you have
the self awareness to go. It tells me that Patrick
Mahomes believes he has all time talent and he doesn't
want to waste it. A lot of guys Joe Namis
did this. Brett Farve comes in big, ben comes in big,

(25:16):
big arms, and I don't get the efficiency. Aaron Rodgers,
to his credit, he's got a big arm, but he's
really efficient for Patrick Mahomes to be able to no
look left hand, throw it deep and but for the record,
he has weapons to throw it. He's got great deep
threats and then he just scales it down, goes super efficient,

(25:37):
hyper impressive for me. Last night, Joy Taylor with the
news No no, this is the herd Line news. Well,
Joe Judge has made some headlines in his training camp
approach for the Giants this year. In his first year,
Thursday was no different. Judge was not happy with how
his players were performing at the beginning of practice, so

(25:59):
he called the team together, yelled at them with a
profanity field tirade about their lack of effort, and had
them start practice over. Oh so he stopped practice so
they weren't working hard enough, give them a little uh,
a little talking to, and practice a couple of times.
Goolay I didn't bring his a game. I've thought about
starting to show over a middle hour two just like

(26:22):
Goulay got nothing but hockey scores here, we're starting to
show over. I may do that next week. Football seasons
a whole new meet. Well this h this actually is
a significant because this added additional like thirty minutes to
their practice time. Blake martinezaid he's never seen this in
his four years in the league. Sajan Barkley actually is

(26:42):
completely buying into Joe Judge, which I think is very
important because he is the face of that franchise. And
talk about Daniel Jones, but Sajuan is a star. He said,
I love it coached and like how we started off
and we had to step up to the challenge. I
don't buy into all of this, but a little raw
it's okay, a little RAA's okay. I think that it's

(27:03):
more about what Joe Judge is trying to do is
establish a culture, culture of excellence and no nonsense, no excuses,
none of the stuff, none of the cutting corners and
all those things that have led the Giants to be
where they are. The Giants are to me one of
those organizations in the NFL that it's it's important that

(27:26):
they be competitive, like they are a cornerstone franchise in
the NFL, and they have. They have been pretty significantly
dysfunctional over the past couple of years. They made playoffs
in twenty and sixteen, lost to Green Bay in the
wild card game. But yeah, they've had a lot of
change and a lot of stuff going on. I mean,
obviously we know what Eli Manning was and that was
a whole other circumstance. But I like the way that

(27:49):
they're going. I just want to I don't want to
get too caught up in the like running through walls
for coach and all that stuff that that's all that
up was great and I think there's some of that
that is important towards establishing a culture, but you also
have to go out and win and have the pieces
and make the right personnel decisions as well. So Chiefs
running back Clyde Edwards tell Lare put on a show

(28:11):
last night in his NFL debut. He rushed for one
hundred and thirty eight yards twenty five carries with the
touchdown in the Chiefs thirty four to twenty when he
is only the tenth running back in NFL history to
rush for at least one hundred yards and score a
touchdown in his first game. The last to two that
was Sequin Barkley in twenty eighteen. Kind of interesting. The
Chiefs actually ran the ball more last night than they

(28:33):
threw it. Yeah, we think of the Chiefs as mostly
a high flying, finesse, fast offense, but they ran the
ball a lot last night, thirty four times and Clyde
Edwards tell Lair had twenty five of those carries for
a hundred thirty eight yards. Just like college. Hard to
bring down. You know, he's not a burner. He doesn't
have breakaway speed, but he makes a lot of guys
miss really really, I mean I'm not a scout, but

(28:54):
super quick feet and it almost never goes down with
a first hit. I was surprised at actually that he
was available for the Chiefs in the draft. I mean,
there's a lot of good running backs in this draft.
I this is why I thought he will where. I
think he will end up being Rookie of the Year.
Like he walked into a great situation that's not going
to take anything away from his talent. I thought he
was great in college and it was going to have

(29:16):
a great NFL career, but this is a this is
a significant debut for him. Like he showed what he's
going to be able to do with the Chiefs. What
happens when you walk into a situation that's well run,
a great offense, you have Andy Reid, They're going to
use you. So he's going to be huge for the
Chiefs this year. Really great showing out of him last night.
So Tom Brady will make his buck sabut against the

(29:37):
Saints on Sunday. I still can't believe. It's like we're
gonna watchdog Brady would with the Buccaneers. It's so weird.
And for the first time in a long time, Brady
will not be favored in a regular season game. Foxbet
has the Bucks as three and a half point underdog
to the Saints. Should be. The last time he was
an underdog in the regular season was Week two of

(29:58):
twenty fifteen against the Bills. So you have the Saints
winning thirty four twenty seven, Yeah, to touchdown game. I
just think they're they're built to win now with a
bunch of returning starters. Yeah, I mean, this is why
I like the Saints this year. Because we're talking about
the Bucks, and we're talking about the forty nine ers,
and we're talking about the Packers and talking about the Cowboys.

(30:19):
The Saints are returning what has been a great team
for a couple of years with bad breaks in the playoffs. Yeah,
and this is Drew Brees. He's gonna go all in
this year. Sean Payton and Drew Brees are joined at
the hip like they have a great defense, big time veterans,
brought in some new pieces that I really like. But
I do think that throughout the season, the biggest thing

(30:40):
for the Saints is going to be that they stay healthy.
That's what's gonna matter for the Saints. The Buccaneers, who knows,
but it's gonna be a fun riet either way. Yeah,
Buccaneers special teams worrying me, right, tackle a rookie against
Cam Jordan's Sunday worries me. But I think these are
really good football teams. Joy with the news, Well that's
the news, and thanks for stopping by the herd lot

(31:01):
Chris Bruce Sards small ball is a myth. And the
Lakers they're starting to look really good and stuff. Lebron
getting close to the Western Conference Finals. Lakers. I gotta
be honest, I've been in critic. They look good, they
look big, and then they didn't play their big lineups.
They went a little small and still dominate the Rockets.

(31:23):
Chris Bruce Hard next, seeing the check engine light come
on freaks people out. Anxiety city. Get Carshield a warranty
when yours runs out, save ten percent. Carshield dot com
code heard HRD got a Laker fans, A lot of
Laker fans chirping at me right now. They're better than
the Clippers. Gotta be honest. They look great last night.

(31:45):
Anthony Davis has been significantly more formidable and consistent over
the last two weeks. Chris Brusard is joining me. Former
New York Times worked at the Other Place now Fox
Sports NBA analyst and works with Rob Parker. Crazy Rob
Parker on the odd couple. So let's bring in Chris
Bruce Hard. So, I gotta be honest. I like the Clippers,

(32:07):
but I'm kind of I mean, listen, they adjusted, Frank
Vogel adjusted, they went a little smaller. Could I say
this morning Lakers are playing better than the Clippers. Yes,
In fact, I said that very thing on undisputed this morning. Look,
I'm sticking with my Clippers pick, Clippers in seven in
the Western Conference Finals. I went into this week thinking

(32:30):
fifty five forty five Clippers. Now Colin I might have
about fifty two forty eight because of take integrity. I'm
gonna stay with my pick. But I agree the Lakers
are playing better basketball right now. I do think the Clippers,
like the Lakers, have reached their A game in my view, Yeah,
the Clippers are climbing towards their A game. One thing

(32:52):
advantage that the Lakers do have right now, at least
Anthony Davis is you can mark him down for at
least twenty six and ten at least. I can't do
that with Paul George. I know the ten is a
lot for George, but I mean I can't mark him
down for twenty six points. I can't mark him down

(33:12):
for twenty three points. So I'm gonna if I'm the Clippers,
I'm gonna need Paul George to be much more consistent,
give me his A game virtually all seven times out
for them to win this series. Now, I think they're deeper,
I think they're tougher. I think they're more comfortable in
the role of the hunter, and they've been the hunted

(33:34):
in these first two rounds with Dallas in Denver. Come
next week when they face the Lakers, they will be
back to the hunter, which I think they're more comfortable in.
So for those reasons and a few more, I've got
the Clippers still. But you're right, the Lakers fans gotta
be happy. They look terrific. They really do okay, So
a lot of blame goes around when you lose a series.

(33:57):
I'm not into Houston. They could have lost, Frank, they
could have lost to Oklahoma City, which is a rebuilding team.
I didn't buy the Westbrook Harden thing. I think their
two ball centric Dan Tony probably gets fired. But let's
talk about James Harden for a second. Last night, I mean,
you're the leader of the team. I didn't think they
played with a lot of spirit. They didn't play with
a lot of energy. Be as honest as you can

(34:20):
about James Harden beyond being a great scorer, is that
the ceiling just he scores a lot is looking like
skyl And it was sad. It was just sad. And
the two saddest things are that now one, it was predictable,
I'm not. I wasn't even surprised. I didn't go in predicting, Oh,

(34:40):
he's gonna have a horrible game. But was I surprised, No,
because he's done this time and time again in six
previous elimination games, not even including last night, which was
a de facto elimination game. He shot twenty five percent
from three point range. And there's something about two for eleven.

(35:01):
This is like the fourth time he's gone two for
eleven in a big game. And a guy that averages
thirty five points a game taking eleven shots, I get it.
He got to the foul line that shows some level
of aggressiveness. He got there twenty times. But I need
more than eleven attempts. And it looked like Colin it
almost looked like he conceded, like he gave in and

(35:25):
kind of said, yes, I am that guy that you
guys been saying I am. I am that guy that's
not gonna deliver in the big playoffs moments. And I
love Harden. I love it. I'm not one that thinks
his game is boring and hate to watch it. I
understand how difficult it is to do what he does,
but I gotta be honest. In these playoffs, this is

(35:49):
going to be a big stain on his legacy without questions.
Yeah no, I just see him different. And listen the
Carl Malone's a great player, but I never thought he
was the same player in the playoffs. I just never did.
It was a reality of it. So, Kawhi Leonard, you
are the company you keep. Okay, You're You're whoever your
friends are. People will make certain judgments who you hang
out with, who you are. You start looking at all

(36:11):
these clubs, Kawhi Leonards in All Star Game, MVP, Defensive
Player of the Year, two time final MVP and champion.
I'm telling you right now, if every NBA player lined
up we're at the y MCA, I take Lebron one
in Kawai two. If he wins a third title as MVP, Chris,
he's in my top ten, He's he's all my starting five.

(36:34):
Ooh ooh, Okay, I'm taking Kareem Magic, Michael Given, and
then two forwards you can have bird I'm taking Lebron, Kawhi.
I'll take bird Um. And then there's a guy named
Tim Duncan that I might take, and that I would
take over Kawai. First of all, your philosophy about you
are who you hang with. It scares me and makes

(36:56):
me cryms considered, I do a show with Rob Parker. Nonetheless,
I look, Colin, I love Kauai. I think he and
Lebron are battling for that best player in the world.
I think it's Lebron still, but you know they're in
a wharf tug a war for it. But this is
too premature. Look, you know what I say, Colin, When

(37:16):
we just differentiate between the all time greats, we knitpick
and I got a knitpick with Kauhi right now. The
first championship, let's assume they win it this year. The
first championship, that wasn't his team. I know he won
finals MVP. That was like almost like DeAndre Wodollah winning
finals MVP in Golden State. You could have picked several guys.

(37:40):
That was still Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Jenobli's team.
And Kawhi averaged thirteen points that year. So that wasn't
his team. He didn't lead them to the championship. The
second championship, major credit to him, because we know Toronto
could not get over the hump. However, they don't win that.
If Kevin Durant doesn't get hurt, I don't think they

(38:02):
win it. If Klay Thompson doesn't get hurt again, nip picky.
So this will be the championship that's far superior to
his other two. It's way too soon for top five.
What I do Colin, if he wins it, I think
he's right there with Kevin Durant in that fifteen to
twenty range, more toward fifteen all time great fifteen. But look,

(38:26):
he's got several years left to add championships. But right
now top five No, and like I said, Bird Duncan
as far as forwards, definitely taking them over Kawai only
thirty seconds left. The last eleven years, Lebron Kawhi or
a Western team has won the final, regardless of raptor Celtics.
Can an Eastern team win the finals? You never say never,

(38:50):
but no, it's one of these LA team. This is
not only the City Championship, it is the NBA Championship
that's coming up. So it reminds me of Lakers Spurs
back in the day with Kobe Shack Yeah, and Duncan
in the in the Spurs. This team's winning. It the
winner it is. Look, he looks so well appointed, well dressed.
Rob Parker's a total professional and he will co host

(39:13):
a show with Crazy Rob Parker in a couple hours.
And I'm the beer is getting better every day. Cole
and Sean Connery. Now it is Sean Connery. It's you're
on your way to sign Connry. Okay, all right, good stuff,
Chris Spruce sar thanks Buddy. Raycon has new wireless earbuds.
The Everyday E twenty five fifteen percent off go to
Raycon by raycon dot com. Slash Herd by raycon dot com.

(39:36):
Slash Herd. So many NFL I'm looking at all the
schedule right now. I just I could sit and stare.
The staff makes fun of me every morning. I'm like,
give me the standings and give me the schedule. I
just stare at him and Gooley throws me hockey scores.
There are so many good games this week. I'm trying
to look at a stinker. Chicago, Detroit doesn't fascinate me.
Even Philadelphia, Washington. I want to see Dwayne Haskins. I

(39:58):
gotta see him. I want to see him with Ron
Rivera a defensive front with Chase Young, it's gonna be
a top three defensive front in the NFL. They were
good last year. Now they added Chase Young and Ron
River is a great defensive coach. Not a lot of
probably not a whole lot of surprises with with with
Jets Bills. But it's still a division game. Yeah, no, no,
I think I love Sam Darnold, so I'm not Yeah,

(40:18):
I mean, but again, two Vegas against Carolina. These are
not great teams. Cannot wait to watch Gruden in car
Raiders are interesting. They're interesting. They're not gonna be good
at don't think, but they're interesting. Yeah. Every game is good.
Every game has a storyline. Uh oh man Cleveland talk
about short Straw. They chose Baltimore at Baltimore. Harbaugh's one

(40:41):
of the get best opening week coaches in the NFL. Oh,
that's a tough Drawfer Baker, I'm what he's doing. The
only guy follow on Instagram. I'm rooting for him. Our
