(00:24):
This is The Herd. Wherever you may be and however
you may be listening. We're on iHeartRadio, Fox Sports Radio
and f S one. R four picks this next hour,
one hour from now, my pick of the year in
the NFL. In one hour, my pick of the year.
Everybody from Will Blackman, Kevin Clarkston stoped by. He's just

(00:46):
an absolute riot for the Ringer. NFL writer Rich orn
Berger com on the show. Former Patriot comes on the
show today and Joy Taylor is joining me. This will
be my favorite show of the week. We kind of
preview We don't preview games a lot on this show. No,
We're kind of talking about all four games today and
a lot of different information coming in. The Browns may
hire a coach in the next several hours. That's happening

(01:09):
as well. Joy, how are you. I'm great. I'm very
excited for this weekends. Yeah, so let's talk. Okay, let
me just talk about Jimmy Garoppolo, Jimmy GQ. Okay, so
this weekend. I think they're as good as anybody in
the NFC. I think they're gonna win the NFC. I
think San Francisco is going to represent the NFC in
the Super Bowl against Kansas City or Baltimore. And we'll
get to those picks in one hour. But I think
they're really, really good. I did like him slightly over

(01:30):
New Orleans. Now the Saints are gone thanks to the Vikings,
who I think the Niners will beat Jimmy Garoppolo. Now
there are witnesses to this. I said for years when
Garoppolo was backing up Tom Brady, I said, go get him.
What do you need to see? And then with only
twelve touchdown passes and only seven starts in his career,
he got a massive contract. It was one hundred and

(01:52):
thirty seven million, and everybody freaked out and we say, well,
we said he earned it. Well, what do you mean
he earned it? Well, let me ask you. He's a
young man, right, he shows some elite skills. Right, There's
something called seed money. Do you know what seed money is?
Seed money is when a bunch of young tech people

(02:16):
sixteen years old, eighteen, twenty, twenty one, twenty two, they've
got an idea and they start a business, a tech company,
but they don't have any capital, and so they go
to rich people and they ask for seed money, seed
money to make their company grow, and they ask for
a million dollars two four six eight million dollars. I've
been in one of these meetings one time. Where do
they go to college? What's their plan? Are they good communicators?

(02:41):
Because you really don't know. You have no idea if
the company is going to work, because they don't really
have much of a company, and so you have to
judge them on or the good communicators. What's their temperament?
Do they have some elite schools? Where do they go
to college? What are they providing the market doesn't have?
And then big rich dudes, not me, writing big fat

(03:01):
checks and they have earned that money. They have earned
it through communication and an idea and verbal skills in
their presentation, and where did they go to school? Well,
Jimmy Garoppolo like a kid looking for seed money, had
gone to the University of Bill Belichick and was five
and oh, and then he got his masters at U

(03:22):
see Kyle Shanahan and was two and oh. So he
never lost a start. I think I'm reversed him that.
I think he was two and over the Patriots five
and oh with U see Kyle Shanahan and a seven
and oh. He was a good communicator, good looking guy
who played with a ton of confidence. He had zip
on the ball, and like the kids starting a tech company,
you really didn't know, but you kind of did know.

(03:44):
That's why you write the check. He absolutely earned it. Folks,
we give twelve to fifteen million dollars a year to
quarterbacks who haven't taken a snap in the NFL. Baker
Mayfields made a boatload of money. Can he even play?
So you're gonna give first round picks thirty percent bust.

(04:05):
You're gonna give them tens of millions of dollars. But
Jimmy Garoppolo and seven starts had never lost a game.
The look, the athleticism, the presentation, the communication skills. He
was good when the camera was on. He was good
when the pressure was on. And you're gonna struggle given
him money. He had earned that money. And now, like
when you give seed money to tech companies and they hit,

(04:28):
it's stealing because you only had to give a half million,
and now it's worth two hundred and fifty million dollars,
and Garoppolo now is stealing money. He only makes twenty
six million a year. That is a steal for a
number one seeded quarterback in the NFC, who's gonna play
at home and give you two home playoff games. You'll
make half his salary in two home playoff games at

(04:51):
the gate. You know how much money an NFL team
makes for a playoff game at home in San Francisco.
What they charge in Silicon Valley up there in Santa
Clara for tickets all make half his contract these two
home games. So we're always caught up in, oh my god, Jimmy,
is he worth it as he earned it? Young kids
who have tiny little companies, who went to great schools,

(05:14):
who are verbal, who have an idea, who present it
to super rich guys, get checks every single day in
this country. Seventy five percent of them. Those companies dry up,
never make a dollar. Jimmy Garoppolo has been Uber, he's
been Facebook, Are you kidding me? A number one seed

(05:35):
home games favored in the NFC, The Niners will win
this weekend. He has been worth as we predicted, every
single penny, and Darnwright he earned it. So I want
you to think about this. There are this weekend when
you're watching the games. We all talk about quarterbacks, but
five of the eight playoff teams this weekend have great,

(05:58):
impactful rookie Why receivers. I mean they walk out of college,
they walk into the NFL boom impact dk Metcalff for Seattle.
How about Deebo Samuel San Francisco as a kid, A J.
Brown at Tennessee, Hollywood Brown with Baltimore, Stefon Diggs, Adam Feeling, Young,
de Hop Will Fuller, Houston, DeVante Adams, Green Bay. These

(06:19):
are kids, They're not that far to college, all sorts.
All these teams have just special guys, and yet New
England can't find one one single wide receiver in a decade.
Nikkil Harry this year had one hundred fifty four yards.

(06:41):
That's weird, right, That's a weird blind spot for the
best coach in the history of football. And I have
been critical of Bill Belichick. But as you watch the
great receivers this weekend, Kansas City's got one as well
to Tyree Hill and Hardman. When you watch this weekend,
you see all these dynamic receivers. Why is it that
the dynasty, the smartest football coach of our lives, they

(07:04):
haven't gotten one right in a decade. So let's look
at the NFL teams. I always blame Belichick on this,
is it, Brady. Let's look at the NFL teams, the
four to five that we think always tend to draft
wide receivers and develop them really quickly. Pittsburgh, Seattle, Green Bay,

(07:26):
Kansas City in Houston. What do they all have in common?
Big Ben Russell Wilson, Pat Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Aaron Rodgers, Oh, lightbulb.
Quarterbacks that extend plays with their legs, allowing wide receivers
more flexibility in their patterns. A receiver now has four
to five seconds to get open, not one point eight

(07:48):
or two point four. We blame Belichick for all this
receiver stuff, but quarterbacks that extend plays are the franchises
where all the receivers seem to work. Isn't that funny?
Maybe it's not Belichick. Maybe it's Brady, which is why
I've said this is a perfect time for Tom to retire.

(08:12):
Bucky Brooks wrote an article yesterday saying Patriot should let
Tom Brady walk in it. He points to a very
intriguing stat Not only is Brady incapable of attacking the
entire field as a passer, but on throws what they
call out wide throws, outside, big throws, speed receivers, he's

(08:34):
thirty second of thirty two qualified candidates. Folks, Nikhil Harry
is not a bust. He can play. He is not
a bust. But receivers are the most NBA like athletes.
They're tall, they're fast, they're vertical, they're special, they break
the huddle by themselves. They're ISOAX. And in Tom's rigid,

(08:56):
tiny system, you're asking an NBA player to not jump high,
not run fast, get open, quickly catch the ball. In
a system, there is no excuse. The dynasty's dying because
they can't elevate an increasingly important position wide receiver. And

(09:18):
Tom can do it. And I love Tom, but it's time.
It's time to wrap a ball on it. Josh McDaniel's
probably getting that Cleveland job. Losing all sorts of coaches.
It's funny when you watch the playoffs this weekend. Watch
how many great young receivers that walk into this league
and make massive impacts. They all have one thing in common.

(09:42):
They play with a ad libbing quarterback, a quarterback that
can extend plays, give a receiver opportunities to get open.
Let the most NBA position in the NFL. Be vertical,
be fast, be creative, be expressive. That is just no
longer possible with TV twelve, And you know I love him.

(10:04):
Next hour forty five minutes from now. My divisional round
picks coming up next. It looks like the Browns have
a new coach. Lot of indicators. It's going to be
a flight with a lot of turbulence. Doesn't mean it's
gonna crash, but the flight is going to have some turbulence.
That's coming up. Be sure to catch live editions of

(10:26):
The Herd weekdays in noon Easter nine am Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app fifteen
minutes fifteen percent, Save it on Geico, Join and I
here in a Friday. This is fun show for us.
We can't wait for the games. Also, Monday Night LSU Clemson,
which is going to be one of the great college
football games. We told you Ohio State Clemson maybe the
best college football game in five ten years it was.

(10:47):
I think LSU Clemson is going to be equally nuts
forty two forty that kind of game. So I want
to say this, We're we're talking a lot about the
hiring practices. It looks like Josh McDaniels as the leader
in the clubhouse to get the Cleveland job, it'll become bustable.
I'll say that. Between Baker's personality, Jimmy Haslam's personality, and
Josh McDaniel's personality, that's a lot of combustible. I think
it's better than Freddy Kitchens. But there's a lot of

(11:08):
stuff about Josh McDaniel that's very Lane Kiffin IQ way
up here, EQ a little lower. It's combustible, fistfights in
the you know, film room, whatever. So we we'll get
to that later in the show, because it could happen
by the end of the show. But there's a lot
of talk about some of the NFL's hiring retreads, and
this retread stuff. You gotta remember, any job that's high
compensation and high pressure has big turnover in America. The

(11:34):
turnover rate for the average American job is three and
a half percent. In tech, it's thirteen For CEOs. Last
year it was seventeen and a half percent, a lot
of pressure. For NFL coaches, it's over twenty percent. This
was a year where they only fired what five guys.

(11:57):
Jacksonville kept theirs, Atlanta kept there. In most years, you're
replacing seven coaches. This year, too survived the cut. Dan
Quinn was going to get fired by week nine. They
got hot in Atlanta and Doug Morone survived, mostly because
Tom Coughlin took all the heat and so they're bringing
him back. But those guys were literally at that decision

(12:18):
was made in a room over of bourbon rocks, and
somebody said, ah, let's keep both those guys. Five guys
are out. So remember, retreads are the ones winning the
Super Bowl. Belichick got fired, Pete Carroll twice. Of the
last twenty three Super Bowls, fifteen had been won by retreads.

(12:38):
Gary Kubiak, Mike Shanahan, Tom Coughlin, Dick Vermeil, Belichick, Dungee,
Pete Carroll, and John Gruden wasn't fired, but he was
traded to Tampa in a high compensation job with high expectations,
with an absurd turnover. Right, you're going to give people
second chances. CEO's get second chances. Head coaches get second chances.

(13:02):
I've never been somebody bothered by people getting fired. Oprah
got fired. She's sort of my idol in this business.
Howard Stern got fired, Jerry Seinfeld got fired, Mark Cuban
got fired. JK Rowling got fired. Walt Disney got fired. Folks,
talented people are outspoken. Outspoken people see the world differently,

(13:23):
and they're not willing to have lesser talented people above
them pushing down. Walt Disney's like, I'm out. Mark Cuban,
I'm out, Howard Stern, I'm out. Jerry seinfeldt Oprah I'm out.
I'm out. JK Rowling, I'm out. Walt Disney, I'm out.
So when you're fighting, the fire doesn't bother me. Firing
usually means you have a strong point of view, you're

(13:43):
kind of willful and aspirational, and you hit a ceiling
or a boss that didn't get you. I'm not saying
something Jim Schwartz, I wouldn't hire again. It's nothing against them.
He went to Georgetown. Smart guy. It's not a guy
I give a second chance to. Steve Wilkes in Arizona
got one year. I'd give him a second chance. All
my sources think Steve Wilkes, who was the Browns defensive

(14:06):
coordinator last year, they like him. They like him a lot,
maybe a little over his skis. Cliff Kingsbury bombs probably
not going to give him a second one. He's a
college guy without a winning record there. But you wouldn't
hire Mike Tomlin if the Rooney's moved off him. Really,
you wouldn't hire Mike Tomla. You know, the year and
a half ago, John Harball was in trouble until Lamar

(14:30):
Jackson happened. You wouldn't. You wouldn't hire John Harball. By
the way, Andy Reid got fired. You don't think Kansas
City should have hired him. We're making too much As
Mike McCarthy gets the job in Dallas. Mike McCarthy got
to a Super Bowl and one. He kept winning his division.

(14:51):
By the way, Green Bay never bought great defensive players.
He mostly did it with average to below average defenses.
It's okay. It's okay to get fired. And in high
compensation jobs tech CEO's football coaches. Just because you get
fired doesn't mean you can't improve and you can't get

(15:14):
sucking opportunities. Joy with the news. No, no, this is
the herd line news. Well, Aaron Rodgers has plenty of
postseason experience, but a majority of his teammates do not.
Thirty one of the fifty two players and the Packers
roster have never played in a playoff game. Wow, that's
an interesting number. Why right, it's a young team of

(15:34):
the young coach yea, and Rogers offered his best piece
of advice on how to be successful in the postseason. Boys,
I think it's important too to find that calm in
your mind in these games because it seems so much bigger.
Obviously it's more important because winner go home, which the
first sixteen of the season aren't like that, but a

(15:56):
great opportunity to learn how to keep your boys and
the stay calm and to find that relaxed flow state
in the game. And I think the team that does
it quicker and sustains its used the team that wins.
Why that's you know, it's really interesting, isn't by the way,
you know, it's it's funny. Bucky Brooks said this yesterday.
San Francisco's got a bunch of young kids. They have
not they're they're the number one seat at home. The

(16:18):
pressure's all on Green Band San Francisco this weekend. So
that I didn't know Green Bay was that young. Yeah,
it's a lot of players. Two. But he's right though.
I think you know, in any situation where you're doing
the same thing that you're always doing, but the stakes
are heightened, kind of keeping the same temperament then she
would if it wasn't a high situation makes sense, Like

(16:40):
that's what he's describing poise, Like when you go into
a game knowing, okay, this is a do artie situation.
You know, your emotions start to get the best of you.
You start feeling the energy of the crowd and start
overthinking things as opposed to just doing what you're great
at in the same temperament that you would if it
was a regular season game that you performed great in.
But that's that's what pressure is, right, Like doing something

(17:01):
that you always do in a more intense situation. The
forecast is predicting snow in Green Bay. Oh boyterday night,
Well that hurts the better offense. Well, Packers are asking
for volunteers to help shovel the snow Lamboo field on
Sunday morning. They are paying, um, I think it's twelve
dollars an hour, but the temperature is expected to be
around twenty one degrees with light winds and potential for

(17:21):
snow showers during the game as well. You know what
that says to me. That says to me like bad
weather hurts the better offense, and green Bay has the
better offense. So that tells me it's going to be close.
I think this game is gonna be was gonna be
close regardless, but yeah, I mean, I think this game
goes as Aaron Jones goes. That to me, that's that's
going to determine whether the Packers went or not. Love

(17:42):
is this weekend. It's only a great weekend. Oh my gosh.
So we've got an injury update for Saturday's games. So
Ravens running back mark Ingram was listed in practice yesterday
with limited in practice. I'm sorry yesterday with a lingering
captain as we know, but he did practice, he did practice,
but he was limited. And Vikings receiver Adam Feelin missed
yesterday's practice with an ankle injury. They're both officially lists
as questionable, but both are reportedly expected to be available

(18:03):
for their games tomorrow. The Vikings, according to Fox Bet,
our seven point underdogs against the forty nine ers, and
obviously the Ravens are favored by nine and a half
against the Titans. Ingram's had a strain calf since Sweet
sixteen against the Browns and that was his first team
workout since that injury. And Feeland cut his ankle a
practice on Wednesday and needed stitches, so they're kind of
just trying to keep him off of that leg. But

(18:25):
just some injuries to pay attention to going into this weekend. Finally,
a little NBA drama. We even had a little NBA drama.
I watched them NBA last night. I watched a unbelievable
documentary and a little Okac thunder by the way, Chris
Paul a bunch of high schoolers and they're not terrible, No, no,
And I'll talk about that in the next hour. What
happened last night in Okac. But speaking of Okacy, Kendrick

(18:46):
Perkins and Kevin Durants got a little heated on Twitter
last night. It all started when Perkins said that he
thought Russell Westbrook was the greatest player to ever wear
a Thunder uniform, and then Perkins was then reminded of
Westbrook's port playoff record without Kad and then the feud
started when Durant jumped in the conversation. So Perkins suited
Katie lost in the second round without Russ when I
was there. So what's that mean? Oh boy, the Durant responded, Yeah,

(19:09):
our starting center, Kendrick Perkins average a whopping two in
three during this series, played hard, though champ l And
then Perkins responded, boys, stop, you did the weakest move
in NBA history up on a team three to one
in the Western Conference finals and then go join them
the following season. Part of a champion right there? Durant responded,
week is at starting at center playing real minutes with
no production. Should have worked on your skills as much

(19:30):
as I did, And then Perkins said, that's fine, you
worked hard and still had to go join a seventy
three and nineteen. Truth be Dot, you don't even feel
like a real champ. You have a hard time sleeping
at night knowing that you took the coward way. Oh
that final line I'm for Kevin Durant on this. I
am I've always been on Kevin Durant's side leaving you

(19:50):
and I know this. We have moved around the idea
that leaving and joining a better company is a cowardly
way out is dumb. Kevin duran aunt join a great
American company that happens to be a basketball team. But
that's the issue. When it comes to sports. The idea
is that you're going to compete and claw and did
somebody hand the Warriors titles? He was the MVP of

(20:13):
the finals. Some would say, some would say they were
handled titles. I don't believe that at all. Um. I
also don't think that we can sit up here and
crush guys over and over for never winning championships or
having four playoff records, and then you kill them and
then they kill them when they move. It's it's it's
one or the other, like it's got to be this
way or that way. But we can't be both. So
it's funny. We never kill a baseball player for saying

(20:36):
I want to go pitch for the Yankees. We never
Garrett Coles like, good, can you go get them? Yeah?
But a basket? But a basketball guys like, yeah, I
want to play with Steph Curry? Outrageous. Why do we
kill NBA guys for mobility? I don't but and I
don't think it's gonna It's never gonna change because the
entire culture down to grassroots is all about mobility now.
But it's this kind of like a little old school mentality.

(20:57):
It's a fun little feuds. I don't think it's anything
sat Perk on the show and scolding him. Come on, Perk,
by the way, if when Peyton Manning left the Colts
and he basically went on a recruiting trip, did we
knock him because he picked the best roster. There's no
loyalty in professional sports, zero people. All just a fantasy

(21:19):
that is sold to us and the fans to sell tickets.
It's fun and we buy into it, but it doesn't
Actually you go to the best company for the best
paycheck and the best coach and management. Durant did. I
got nothing against Okay, s Philly Donovan. I've always thoughts
better than everybody else thinks. But come on, going to
Golden State was the right moved. It's best for you. Yep,
Joy with a news Well that's the news, and thanks

(21:39):
for stopping by the Herd line former NFL offensive lineman,
great radio TV guide down in San Diego, former Patriot
we love, and rich Orn Burger joining us here on
the Herd. Have not had him on in like a month,
and we are we need some rich to be enriched.
All right, let's start with this, um. You know, I
started the show talking about how young kids who are

(22:01):
seventeen to twenty seven year old in Silicon Valley and
all over the country are looking for seed money and
they go to good schools and then they they have
a little business, but they don't have any scratch, and
big investors give a millions of dollars, and I think
they've earned it. They've earned it by the presentation, by
the idea, by their ability to communicate as they presented.

(22:23):
Jimmy Garoppolo similarly, he went to a good school, University
of Belichick. Then he went to UC Shanahan. He was
seven and oh he was very verbal, good communicator. So
when he got his contract, everybody freaked out. My takeaway
was no, no, no, this is what we do in America.
Young people show us just enough and we put our
arms around him and we invest in them. So let's

(22:43):
go back. You were a Patriot, Yeah, you're pro Garoppolo.
Why well, you know, so we didn't overlap there, but
a lot of the guys who are yeah yeah, A
lot of the guys who I played in New England
with I kept in touch with them. So how about
this Jimmy g guy. I keep hearing about him, you know,
backing up Tom for years. Yeah, everybody said that it

(23:05):
was just Tom Junior. I mean, like, this guy is
as good as Tom Brady, I mean, legitimately heard many
times as good as Tom Brady. He's just a little
bit more careless with the football at practice, but even
the way they speak, the way they command the huddle,
he learns a lot, he absorbs things. He's just smart
as a whip and can make all the throws and
has better athleticism. So the guys who were waiting to

(23:28):
see when this sort of change of hands was going
to take place in New England were really comfortable with
the idea that Garoppolo was going to be the next
And I mean he's showing that in a lot of
cases in San Francisco, and that's a new offense he
had to learn. But these guys automatically started just following
his lead. I mean from day one, from start one,

(23:48):
and you could see it. That's what they invested in
a field general, and they're gonna have him for the
next ten years at least. Yeah, I want to talk
about there's ways to retire. I think John Elway MVP
Super Bowl, Seacrest out, Derek Jeter gets hits his final
couple at bats, it's perfect. Then there's Muhammad Ali fighting
Larry Holmes for a check and it's just bad for everybody,

(24:09):
including Ali, the sport. Larry Holmes, Tom Brady to me,
wrap a bow on it. It's perfect. The band is
breaking up. Josh McDaniels is leaving. He cannot make now
quote the wide side of the field throws up, the
field throws There's a rigidity to his play that's very
hard for young receivers nikkil Harry Jacobe Myers to really

(24:32):
integrate themselves into the system. I can love Tom, but
I'm old enough. I've seen boxers fight one too many
fights and quarterbacks take one too many hit. Where do
you land on Brady retiring? You know, the best movies
that I leave the theater are the ones that leave
you wanting a little bit more. You know, the ones
that I dislike are the ones where I walk out

(24:53):
and I go that was a great movie, but it
was a half hour too long. Yeah, And that's where
we're getting close to with Tom Brady now. He was
my quarterback when I was in New England. I love
the way he plays, I love the leader he is,
and I think he can still do it. But because
you still can doesn't mean you should. I mean, just
because you have more film in the can doesn't mean
we need to see it. Leave it on the editing

(25:15):
room floor. Some of the best movies have the best
editors attached to him, and it's for that reason. Look,
I don't remember far Of as a Viking, even though
he's a pro bowler there, remember him as a packer.
I mean, you could say what you want about Montana
winning a playoff game with the Chiefs, but I remember
him as a Niner. I'll never think of Tom Brady
as anything other than a Patriot great and I think

(25:37):
it's okay to say I've did everything I need to do,
and I did in one jersey, shake Bob Craft's hand
and right off into the sunset. Even if your last
plays a pick six. There are a lot of unhappy
endings in football. Go on and run your TV twelve
fortunes and enjoy retirement, you know, go fishing, work part
time at a hardware store, whatever you're gonna do. I

(25:57):
think he'll be at home depot wearing an apron very
soon before we get to the games, because you've got
strong feelings on all of them. I do believe in
I just said this. High compensation, high pressure jobs. Tech
CEOs have a high turnover rate. The national averages three
and a half techs thirteen CEOs was seventeen percent last year.
NFL head coaches over twenty this year we had five

(26:19):
lose their job, Dan Quinn and Doug Marone somehouse. There
was a life preserver throne to pull him into the
boat at the very last seconds, or it would have
been seven, which is a quarter of the league. Josh McDaniels,
I do think I would give him another job. I'm
just not sure at Cleveland with an impulsive owner and

(26:40):
an impulsive quarterback is the right job. I'd like more stability.
What do you make of Josh McDaniels and the Browns,
Because that's the leader in the clubhouse and we could
have an announcement tomorrow morning or today. I think it
could work, and I'll tell you why, because second chances.
Even though we are we at first, you know, at

(27:01):
first glance, when he left Denver and there was shame around,
you know, his first attempt at being a head coach,
it doesn't mean that it can't work the next time.
In fact, the best coaches, the best players learn the
best from their mistakes. I can learn as good from
a good example as I came from a battle. I
think bad examples are easier to think. Joy and I
have talked about this. My shortest stay in television, I

(27:23):
learned the most, and that was in Tampa. I learned
what not to do exactly what was all the time.
And so from a personnel standpoint, from the way he
controlled that team, I mean, there are some things that
I'm sure he walks away going. Boy, if I had
another opportunity, that would go completely differently, and it might
go better. And I also think that the Cleveland Browns
need an offensive minded head coach. They need somebody who's
gonna lock arms with Baker and it's going to be

(27:44):
there with him for the remaining time as a Brown
I think that could be Josh McDaniels, and they're gonna
be linked in this too. You have to, yeah, you
have to do it for Baker. He's already had three
head coaches. I mean you fired his first when he
had an interim, and he's onto the next. And you
have to have some consistency otherwise this situation could turn

(28:04):
into what was the forty nine Ers situation with Alex Smith,
who turns out is a pretty good quarterback when he's
in a consistent setting, like he became when he was
chief with Andy Reid. So I think this marriage could
work now. Discord with the Browns organization. It's all about fit. Though.
Things could look a lot better for the Browns like

(28:24):
they did for the Patriots, who are a laughing stock
for years before Kraft bought the team and Belichick was
their consistency can really heal things. By the way, I tired,
I'm getting tired of this narrative. USA today did it today?
It's like, people, stop. Lamar Jackson got drafted in the
first round. Okay, let's stop the sympathy tour. Baltimore passed

(28:46):
in him in their first pick, allowed Cincinnati shot at
him nobody knew it was going to be this good
with Bobby Petrino never completed sixty percent of those in college.
When you're a unique talent, you're harder to evaluate. Dirt
Nvitski was seven one and didn't like playing in the post.
He went ninth YEA. Easily the best player in the draft,
Steph Curry shot the ball from thirty three feet. His

(29:09):
range was so unique. People are right, you can't do
that in the pro basketball now if you don't shoot
at three or a bum. So you look at Lamar.
Do you know of all the quarterbacks playing in the
playoffs this weekend, this is how hard it is to
evaluate this position. The highest draft pick is Ryan Tanning.

(29:29):
Now look this is the screen. Ryan went eighth. By
the way, two number two picks RG three and Marcus
Mariota are busts and backup this weekend. This position is
Johnny Unitis ninth round, Bart Star seventeenth, the Goat Brady sixth.
It's hard. So here's my thing with Lamar. Let's enjoy it.

(29:51):
He went first round. It's so much fun to watch.
I mean, I gotta be honest with you. I called
him a project, so I kind of I mean I
didn't whiff, but I didn't see this, did you. No? No,
absolutely not. I didn't think the game would transfer, and
it doesn't have as much to do with his unique
skill set. More that, did you really feel an offensive
coordinator would be particularly amenable to changing their offense completely

(30:14):
to match what he did while he was at Louisville. No,
this is a very rigid league. Yeah, you're up against
most offensive coordinators who want to amend players skill sets
to their offense. There's an ego involved there. I'm gonna
find the right guy and he's gonna champion my ship.
That's right. Meanwhile, what's taking place in Baltimore is beautiful.

(30:37):
This is what we should always do. Take the best
ingredients and say, okay, what is this ruta biggest saying
to me, what is this turnip all about? And let
me make the best STU possible, as opposed to saying
let me buy the pot first, right, No, buy the
best ingredients and then make your stupe. And that's what
the Baltimore Ravens did. And by the way, I mean

(30:58):
really the heartbreak around where he was drafted and how
it works out, I mean, that's the guy. He replaced.
That's literally what happened with Joe Flacco, sort of an
undervalued guy out of Delaware transferred in college exactly. You know,
you had a couple of guys ahead of him on
the depth chart to start that training camp. He won
the job, He won the Hearts of Baltimore, he won
them a super Bowl. We're seeing a very similar trajectory

(31:20):
with Lamar Jack. Why do we love the Joe Burrow
story where he was sort of cast aside at Ohio State.
Don't we love the comeback story? Why don't we love
that people passed on Lamar and he's shoving it you
know where. That's what I love. The Dak Prescott story.
I love these stories. Drew brees, everybody passed, that's what

(31:42):
that's part of the Drew brows a little short. He
went to Burdue. He didn't have a great arm. For
some reason, we can't enjoy the Lamar story. We're mad
about it. I don't understand why. Well, it isn't it? Also,
this is life like in a lot of ways. It's
the ones we didn't see coming, right. I mean, you
can say, like, you know whatever, you can say, I

(32:03):
scouted this position, I scoured every moment and I've found
the right guy, and a lot of times, I mean
that doesn't work out. It's the guy who's been on
your roster along. It's the it's the rom com that
we go and see. It's like, well, it wasn't the
handsome guy who was standing there with the broad shoulders.
It was kind of his geeky do we be friend
who ended up getting the girl. That's how would always go. Half.

(32:23):
The NFL is undrafted, thee the NBA is not. You
can buy the seventh pick of the NBA draft. Historically
you run out of Kobe's I mean, I mean you
get to about like there's a number in the NBA draft,
it's like twelve or thirteen, and you're run out of stars.
They are all exceptions after that. All right, come back,
we're gonna have four picks. He's gonna pick all the games.

Rich Oremberger's joining us NFL or for a long time.
We're just talking about his relationship with Dante's Arneckia Patriots
legendary OC, who he calls a friend, a mentor a teacher.

(33:04):
Some of our stories often with Rich are better off
the air than on, although he's great on the air.
So let's break down the games. Let's get to it. Minnesota,
San Francisco. I could argue two of the top three
rosters in the National Football League. What say you? They
are built almost identically. I mean, they really are really strong, physical,
aggressive defense is a run game that really scares you

(33:27):
in a lot of ways. Both teams want to run
the football. They want to use their quarterback as a compliment.
They don't want to highlight Jimmy Garoppolo and San Francisco
the same way. They don't want to do that to
Cousins in Minnesota. You know quarterback rating Garoppolo's twelve Cousins thirteen. Yeah,
they're a lot closer than you think. I like Garoppolo more,
but they're similar. Throw another guy into that. Aaron Rodgers

(33:48):
is right there and we'll get to that game in
a second. But Aaron Rodgers and another guy's being used
as a compliment right now. But back to Vikings San Francisco.
When you think about these two teams, what it's gonna
be is who wins the war of attrition. It's gonna
that up a lot like the Seattle forty nine er battle.
It's going to be great defense, running the air out
of the ball and not putting Kirk Cousins into a

(34:10):
situation where he has to do it all. He won
that game in ot against the Saints. Yeah, it's the
first time and maybe the only time we've ever seen
him do that in a real big moment. Don't make
it about him. I think this game comes down to
Mike Zimmer's defense against Garoppolo and can he decode what's happening.
Because Mike Zimmer did a fantastic job disguising coverages, getting

(34:30):
aggressive in the blitz package against the New Orleans Saints.
He kept them guessing, he kept Drew Breeze off balance.
They never got into a rhythm, never got into a rhythm,
and that's rare to see in New Orleans. So I
think if the Vikings do that against the San Francisco
forty nine ers to have a chance, but I really
feel like the motion's gonna run out. I think the
Niners win this game. It's very difficult to have a

(34:52):
win like you had in New Orleans and come back
and turn around as a locker room and say, and
we're gonna do it again, all right? Coming up next,
Titans Ravens. Similarly, this is why I like the Ravens
Tennessee may That may have been the biggest music city
win in a decade. It Foxborough, Belichick, Dynasty, Brady, Let's

(35:13):
do it again, Fellas against a significantly better team I
think in Baltimore. But you think it's got potential for
an upset, Oh man, you know people are probably gonna
be upset with this one. But I think the road
ends for Lamar Jackson. Oh lord yeah. And the reason
why is because the Tennessee Titans they are just bad dudes.
They want to bring a level of violence to the

(35:35):
field that we really haven't seen since the two thousand Ravens.
They have a nasty defense. They have a defense who's
gonna come up line against you and say, look, we're
just gonna pound you. We're gonna pound you. Now. If
they can make open field tackles against Lamar Jackson, good
on them. I don't think that's going to be the
game plan though. I think they're going to blitz the
dog out of the Ravens. They're gonna get to the

(35:56):
mesh point in the backfield. The only place Lamar Jackson
is vulnerable is in the backfield, whether that be in
the passing game or the run game. So in the
passing game, for obvious reasons, we all see what a
pass rush can do to a young quarterback. But in
the run game, because everything's deception, everything who has the
football get to him and you're gonna find out real

(36:17):
quick because a quarterback doesn't want to get hit, especially
when their hands are in the chest of their running back.
So I think if the Titans come out fast, and
if you win that toss, you take that ball. Oh,
you do not defer, You do not take that ball,
and you sit on the ball. You run the air
out of that ball, and you don't give it back
for seven minutes out of clip. You sort of devenomize
this Raven's offense by getting blitz heavy against them, and

(36:40):
then you say to Lamar Jackson, can you beat us
one on one down the field, and there's some good
matchups there. You know, Brown downfield. It scares you, but
you have to roll the dice if you're gonna beat
a juggernaut like Baltimore, and I think they can. Texans
chiefs Kansas City's defense Andy read off a bye love
that he's very good. I get that the Texans to

(37:01):
me were out gained and trailed more than they led
this year. But again, Deshaun's the human life preserver, so
he saves the day with a flag football play. I
like Kansas City here, What say you you want to
talk about lacking rhythm? This Houston Texans offense is so herky,
jerky and unpredictable. There's no rhythm to it whatsoever. You know,
Deshaun Watson with the Texans this year reminds me of

(37:23):
Aaron Rodgers with Mike McCarthy. Go save the day, Aaron
our game plan, Aaron Rodgers onto won't too ready great,
And that's what it is with Deshaun Watson. It's backyard football.
This guy scrambles, he improvises, he makes plays. He's a
lynchpin to their success in the run game. Their offensive
line isn't very good, not in the right side of
its bad. Yeah, so you really have to depend on
just Shaun Watson to win this game for you, and

(37:45):
I don't think they will because Andy Reid, like you mentioned,
after a buye, you know what that's good for. About
a ten point lead to start a game. Yeah, I
really think his first fifteen plays are going to dissect
disect what the Texans liabilities are defensively, and you're going
to see a Chiefs team out in with a lead
early in this game. With Mahomes, who's the future of

(38:05):
the quarterback position, arrowhead going nuts, the Texans playing on
a tilted field all game long. This is a Chiefs
win and it may be the biggest margin of victory
we see this weekend. Finally, Packers at home against green Bay.
I think the numbers about right Seattle last week. Now
they're down to their fourth and fifth string running back.
They averaged they just couldn't run the ball. So you're

(38:26):
asking a very depleted Seattle team that can win one
way save us Russell. So I'd probably go green Bay.
But as I've said many times, I don't love the
Packers this year. This game comes down to waron Jones,
not Rogers. They have to run the football again. Like
I was talking about the San Francisco they are good

(38:48):
against the run. But I will say this the Packers
really they played against a lot of teams great against
the run, and they've moved the football on them. This
is going to be another one of those games. Think
about how the Bills looked against the Houston Texans. This
could be low scoring, bad weather game, and I think
that actually favors the Packers. I understand a lot of

(39:09):
people are used to looking at the Green Bay Packers
as this highlight offense. They're not anymore. They're not. They're
really not. You know, It's funny. Aaron Rodgers completion percentage
over the last two months, his passer rating, it's remarkably average.
And that's not a shot at him. He's I mean,
it's okay. He's had two collar bones, he's not quite
as mobile. Probably doesn't want to get hit. The older

(39:30):
you get quarterbacks, you know, Brady, we saw this year
no interest getting hit Eli, no interest. I'm with you.
I think Green Bay wins kind of ugly. He's great.
Aaron Rodgers is great, and I say that about him
with deference to how things fell apart between him and
McCarthy because of what he's been able to do with

(39:50):
a new coach. He's really resigned himself to say, it's
your offense, I'll run it. And they've done a really
nice job. And he's one of the most devastating deep
pass throwers in this league. So if they lean on
their run game against the depleted Seattle team because their
offense can't produce, and if they get an early lead
and it's Preston Smith and Zadarius Smith off the edge

(40:10):
against Russell Wilson with a terrible pass blocking offensive line,
this is going to be one of those games where
we see the Packers in control early and they'll lean
on them the rest of the game. It isn't going
to be a sexy win. It's not going to be
one of these box office games where they're trading blows
all the way down the field. But it's gonna be
a Packers win in though advance. Yeah, Seattle games all

(40:30):
kind of look the same, like the ones they win
and lose. You know, you just you look up and
you're like, oh, it's twenty three twenty and they're seven
to go. That's kind of how Seattle wins. They don't
have the firepower to blow you away. But they have
the player that can win a game where they're outplayed,
and that's Seattle. Okay. Rich arm Burger was absolutely magic today.

One of my favorite guests, Kevin Clark of The Ringer
Funny Funny Guy, NFL reporter Very Smart's gonna be joining
us in less than fifteen minutes. Joy Taylor joining us
as well this morning. Joy how are you great? So
Rich is really a good guest. He got all sorts
of thoughts on what is happening. This is this is
what it's all about. I mean, this is now. I

(41:55):
can make an argument this is the best weekend of
the year for sports. I get four Divisional round NFL games,
in National Championship in college football LSU Clemson on Monday night,
the next five games in football in America. This is
just the gift that keeps on giving. The ratings are
up on all the networks. I think the all these
new quarterbacks are so much funny. I knew there was

(42:17):
a moment this year, and you know, I listen. I
love I loved Farv, I love Peyton Manning, I love Brady,
I love Breeze. I like the old school guys. But
I remember a moment this year when I'm sitting watching
Kyler Murray and Arizona's losing and it's a bad team
and I don't know how good their coach is, and
I cannot turn the channel from Kyler Murray. I am transfixed,

(42:39):
and I remember thinking, this is the new league. Yep,
this is what it is. Guys running around and making plays.
It was so much fun, and they were not a
good team. And I had my questions about Kyler Murray.
He looks so small. But this is the future of
the league. And we got all these young quarterbacks, all
now MVP level guy last two years, MVPs are gonna
be Mahomes and mar Jackson. They're like babies. That's not

(43:03):
the way it used to work. Peyton Manning had a
bad fourth year in the NFL, like year four for
Peyton Manning, who was an interception machine. Guys come into
the league. They're better than ever, faster than ever, and
a lot of it. This train's not stopping a lot
of this. It's all these seven on seven camps. All
these quarterbacks now have ten thousand snaps by the time
they're twelve. It did not work that way even a

(43:24):
generation ago. These guys are ready to play. You can
go to southern California. There's these high school camps everywhere.
These kids are twelve years old now with ten thousand
snaps before they get to high school. They're playing on
these seven on seven camps. We got three guys coming
out this year who are very interesting. One two I
think it's a star. Next year, we got two guys

(43:45):
Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields. I think they're both stars. And
I think Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow could be good.
I don't know if they're stars, but this train's not stopping.
These kids now come into this league. They're the best
athlete in their high school and college team, and they've
got thirty thousand snaps by the time they get to
the NFL. Remember, you get these you talk to these
older quarterbacks, like Drew Bletso comes on her show and

(44:06):
he's like, he goes, I played like eighteen high school games.
Some guys didn't even play quarterback until they were in college. Yeah,
it's all different now. It's just they have quarterback camps.
Everything better. There's more access to information, you know, nutrition, rehab,
and they're training with former players. And I mean, think
this weekend, Just think of this weekend at the AFC.

(44:28):
Lamar Jackson twenty eighteen draft, Patrick Mahomes twenty seventeen draft,
Deshaun Watson twenty seventeen draft, Josh Allen twenty eighteen draft.
Four of the six AFC playoff teams has got a
kid that can run around. Best athlete in the team
in Wyoming, Josh Allen put him in high school at
quarterback in California. All right, as a big kid, he
let's get a tight end. No, let's blot him play quarterback.

(44:48):
And here he is. And by the way, there's three
good quarterbacks coming out one I think two as a star.
They'll probably go to AFC teams because Cincinnati's drafting one,
Miami's drafting one, and I think the Chargers want one,
and if the kick it up there, they want one.
So you could have three more great young quarterbacks coming
into the AFC. For years and years, the AFC was
dominated mostly by Brady big Ben and Peyton Manning because

(45:10):
the quarterback play aff for those three was awful. In
the AFC, it was really average. The NFC, no quarterbacks
got into more than two Super Bowls. Eli two, Russell
Wilson two. Why because the quarterback play was so good
in the NFC. Now it's all switching. These bad AC
teams are getting quarterbacks. Watch out, watch out. All right
here we go. Let's go blazing five is during the

(45:30):
regular season. I don't do blazing fives much in the
postseason because frankly, there's only four games. There's only one here.
I'd bet and I'll tell you that one when I
do it. So here we go with our NFL picks. Vikings.
I like the forty nine ers to win. I think
the number of San Francisco minus seven's about right. Here's
the issue with facing San Francisco. They are seven and

(45:55):
three against the spread against non divisional opponents this year.
What does it mean? Seattle plays them tight, and Arizona
played them tight, and the Rams wants played them tight.
Their defensive line is so overwhelming you gotta see them
a couple times to get used to it. And Minnesota
now is one of these teams that hadn't faced it yet.
I don't love Minnesota's offensive line. Dalvin Cook is only

(46:17):
average three point three yards to carry in his last
seven games. Vikings O line not their strength. I think
they could be overwhelmed. I think San Francisco, off a bye,
will be very clever and take a lead. I do
think Minnesota is well coached. I don't think they can
duplicate the emotional win at the Superdome. So I think
the numbers about right. San Francisco wins twenty seven twenty,

(46:39):
but it feels bigger than that, and the Niners take
a lead and mostly control the game is the one
i'd bet. I think this is a potential blowout. I'll
take Baltimore. Listen, Tennessee has been leaning on Dereck Henry
over and thirty carries and over, and they just beat
the dynasty in Belichick and Brady, and I don't think

(47:00):
they can duplicate this. Here's what I really like about Baltimore. Yet,
we all know the offense is exceptional. Since Jimmy Smith
got healthy at corner and they acquired Marcus Peters, I
can make an argument it's the best cornerback duo in
the league. So they can put these two corners on
an island against Tennessee and just crowd the box and say,
Derrick Henry, eight guys, six blockers, you're not getting through now.

(47:24):
I know he's like tackling a refrigerator. I get that,
but this is a big, physical defense. And since they
are right now, the Ravens have the number one NFL
scoring defense and total defense since Marcus Peters arrived. So again,
when you got two great corners, it allows you to
cheat everywhere else. I'll take the Ravens to win thirty

(47:45):
one to twenty. I don't know if they jump out
to a league. But I think overtime Tennessee is a
lot of three and ounce and is the Baltimore dominates
time of possession. Text sends a chiefs Kansas City wins.
Here to me, I'll tell you what I like about
Kansas City. First of all, we know the Texans offensive
line is not good. Well, that's a problem because Frank Clark,

(48:09):
even though he missed games, had eight sacks and Chris Jones,
even though he missed games, had nine sacks. These are
elite defensive lineman against the right side of the Texans
offensive line, which is not good. I mean, Houston is
such an outlier. They were out gained this year, they
trailed more than they led, and they just relied on

(48:31):
again Deshaun Watson to make flag football plays. But in
the end, Kansas City brought in a lot of new
faces on defense, and it took them two Thanksgiving, so
the players were thinking less and reacting more. And I
get Patrick Mahomes, I get all these weapons. I get
Andy Reid off of Bye. He's one of the NFL's

(48:53):
best coaches. Off a Bye, Houston has to get on
the road. I don't like him at all. In this spot,
I'll take the Chiefs thirty three twenty three Seahawks a Packers.
I feel like green Bay is gonna win the numbers. Right.
Green Bay is not nearly you know, you say Aaron Rodgers,
you just think explosive. But they really have one receiver

(49:14):
that he throws to Davante Adams. That's it. He doesn't
trust anybody else. If Davante Adams twist his leg, this
thing's going to overtime. Six six. I mean, there's green
Bay's offense is not it's down from the McCarthy era
in terms of adjustment points, third down, conversion yards. But
I do think they're very good in scripted plays. In
bad weather, they take a lead, and Seattle's a one

(49:36):
trick pony, and the trick is Russell Wilson. Listen last week,
not only was Russell Wilson the leading rusher for Seattle,
Seattle's running backs on seventeen carries had nineteen yards. It's over.
They just cluster into This was a running team. It'd
be different if Seattle was Kansas City and they're throwing
the ball all over the yard. It's a power running

(49:58):
team and they lost their two Well, there are three
best backs that you can't They're a one trick pony,
so I don't think. I do think Seattle's defensive front
will have some success against the Packers offensive line, which
is the worst green Bay line in several years. But
in the end here the numbers right, I'll take Packers
twenty seven twenty three. Russell Wilson is eleven and two

(50:19):
in one possession game. So if it's close late, that's
what Pete Carroll wants, get me to the fourth close.
I think it's gonna feel very early on that green
Bay's the better team. Green Bay's in control, they get
a little conservative late, Seattle pulls closer, but I think
the numbers right on. It's four to four and a half.
So my divisional round picks. I like the Niners at home.
I like the Ravens big at home. I like the

(50:41):
Chiefs big at home, and I like ugly green Bay
win at home. Now, you know, I'm not going to
go four and oh. So somebody's getting upset here, and
I am betting my own money on Baltimore. Very risky problem,
a lot of it, you know, let's put it in context.
It's a good airplane ticket to a city near Beijing.

(51:05):
It's a fairly expensive airplane ticket. Airplane ticket, so you
know this is a it's an interesting weekend. You feel
very very strongly about that. I do. I think they've
leaned so heavily on Derrick Henry when you you gotta
remember this has been Tennessee's a franchise that's had so
many disappointing losses. They're kind of like the Chargers of

(51:26):
the South. They've just they outplay it and they lose,
and then they beat and kind of bury the dynasty.
They didn't go to they didn't go to bed till Tuesday,
and I have a feeling you're you're asking him to
go on the road, And I mean, I can see
the way Tennessee controls the clock, but I kind of feel,
I mean, let's be honest about Ryan Tannil. He threw
for seventy yards in Foxborough. I mean, I think the

(51:48):
Ravens win. I just think how this game goes is
going to depend on how the Titans start the game.
They score early. Yeah, all right, So Kevin Clark, Eric
Dickerson both joining us this hour, Will Blackman, Jayson and
McIntyre next hour. They'll love these Friday shows, great weekend
of football coming up. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Herd weekdays in noon Easter nine am Pacific

(52:09):
on Fox Sports Radio FS one and the iHeart Radio app.
Former Wall Street Journal writer then Bill Simmons got Smart,
hired him at the Ringer, Kevin Clark newly married and everything.
Oh's funny. Oha was Smart. It is great to see
you on a Friday. This is one of the great
weekends of the year. Four great NFL games, college football
National Championship on your Monday. It is great to have
you here. So you know, we were talking earlier that

(52:31):
my goofy take was that when young tech kids eighteen
to twenty eight are looking for seed money and they
go in and they present it, and you're kind of,
how do they communicate? Where do they go to college?
Do they have a plan? Are they providing something I
don't have? We give him eighteen million dollars and we think, well,
they earned it. Jimmy Garoppolo was seven to oh at
the University of Belichick and you see Kyle Shanahan and

(52:52):
then everybody's like, whoa twenty six million? And I'm like, no,
I mean, we give money to Baker Mayfield, and he's
never played outside of the Big twelve. I didn't have
a problem with a Garoppolo contract, did you? Were you
a little cynical initially when they gave him twenty six
large I understand why they do it. They gave him
forty one million in cash last year they had the

(53:12):
cap room, and so now that the cap its are
okay the rest of the time, this is the cost
of doing business in the NFL. I mean, you can
keep trying to find the guy, or you can get
the guy and you can commit to him. That's it.
I mean, that's what quarterbacks cost after the first four years.
And so I wasn't offended by the contract. I think
that Jimmy Garoppolo, with Kyle Shanahan, and with George Kittle,
and with Deebo Samuel and Emmanuel Sanders, that is an

(53:36):
elite production quarterback. This isn't a contest to who can
make it the hardest. It's a contest to win the
Super Bowl. And you can win the Super Bowl. We
can see that with Jimmy Garoppolo. They're the one seed
either the best team in the NFC. And so if
they can build a team and by the way everybody
makes excuses about paying quarterbacks and then not being able
to build a team. John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have

(53:56):
shown you can pay a quarterback, you can build an
infrastructure around them, you can draft well, and you can
build a really good team. So I'm not offended by
the contract because they clearly knew how to make it work.
By the way, I can love the way John Elway retires,
and I can love the athlete Muhammad Ali and hate
that he fought Larry Holmes. There are I like a
neat tidy present, Rappabow, Tony Gonzalez, I can still play

(54:20):
Derek Jeter, I'm out. I do think with the band
breaking up in New England, Brian Flores, Dante Scarneki is
getting older, Josh McDaniels may take the Cleveland job. I
do think it's time. I probably in the minority. Where
do you land on Brady in retirement? Well, I think
that it's bigger than just Brady because you look at
the core. Okay, Devin mccordy's a free agent. Guys like

(54:41):
Matthew Slater who helped run that locker room there, they're
free agents, and so I think there's a bigger changing
of the guard than even we think about. I think
Brady should come back for one more year. He obviously
wants to. I think that it's funny. There've been a
lot of studies done a couple of last couple of
weeks about how quarterbacks age and essentially they fall off
a cliff. There's not a decline. Pro Football Focus had
had a great piece about this week. There's not a decline.

(55:03):
There's a cliff, and I don't think we've seen that
cliff yet with Tom Brady, and I think he kind
of wants to see how far he can draw it out.
I think he said in the past he wants to
play to forty six. That's based on some real baseball science.
Tom House, some of those guys who've coached him, they think, okay,
no one Ryan was able to have the mechanics until
he was forty six. Tom Brady could too. I think
they want to see how long this TB twelve method

(55:26):
can go, how long he can do his avocado ice
cream and get stay healthy. I think there's some there's
a challenge to this now, unlike anything he's ever faced
in his career, and I think he likes that kind
of challenge. Hey, can I be productive at forty three
or even forty four? Kevin Clark at the ringer. So
Josh McDaniels feels like to me, there's a rock star

(55:47):
quality to him. You know, I say this so certain franchises.
I call him low self low self esteem sports franchises.
Cleveland's one of these, the Mets for years, the Jets.
When you play in the shadow of somebody, you know,
Steve down the road Ohio State football. Here's Cleveland and they,
you know, they reach. They reach on quarterbacks, they reach
on coaches. They look for the Baker Mayfield. They said,

(56:09):
we like his leadership. Uh, you know, they do this,
They reach and Josh McDaniels has got a lot of Hubris.
There's some Lane Kiffin high IQ, lower EQ. I think
he's going to be the guy if he is. I
know Denver was ugly. Could it work at this point?
You take the Cleveland job for one reason, that's to
work one year and they get paid out for four

(56:30):
years because of that. I'd like to put my hat
in the ring there. I'd love to work one year
and get paid out for that's amazing. Take a couple
of years off watch a bunch of movies. So I
think that that's that's what's happening. And the Browns have
doomed themselves to failure by not knowing what they want.
They've had five coaches and five gms. They've their longest
tenured coach this decade is Hugh Jackson, which is just astounding.

(56:54):
And if you're Josh McDaniels, how can you go into
Cleveland and think that this is going to be any different?
Do you not know that in a year Jimmy Haslim's
not going to say, hey, wait a second, we don't
like this either. And now all of a sudden they're
hiring their seventh coach and their seventh GM. I mean,
they the only way to guarantee failures to keep starting
over after a year. It takes six to eight months
to even settle in an NFL into a new job

(57:17):
and learn who the everybody's names and all that stuff.
And they don't have a great GM, so don't have
another issue. And I'm you know, I'm not into Baker
like everybody else, but I think it's fair to say
he's impulsive. Can you coach him out of that? I
think you can but I think you need a time
and an infrastructure, and you need This isn't like Dallas

(57:40):
where it's a quick fix. This is a long term
culture fix. This might take two full years just to
get the bad juju out of the building, Okay, And
so I think that with Baker specifically, Listen, you can't
have that kind of talent he showed at the end
of twenty eighteen without being just a naturally good passer,
and that can be brought out of him again. I
still believe, against all evidence in twenty nineteen that Baker

(58:03):
Mayfield can be a good NFL quarterback. Is Josh Channel
is the higher I'm not sure. Board I do know
is if Jimmy Haslem in twelve months inside to start
over again, they're going to ruin not only his career
but everybody else on that roster's career, and they're gonna
doom their franchise again. For the record, I think Baker
will be much better next year. If if Jim Schwartz
I don't like, I think then Baker's career is done.
But if they get Josh I do think he reboots.

(58:25):
He's okay. I never thought he was Drew Brees, but
I do think he's a franchise quarterback. All right, let's
go to the games. Kevin Clark the ringer joining US
Vikings and the Niners. A lot of similarities, pass rushers,
all three levels of defense, they like run games. I
go Niners. You say what I say? Niners as well.
I think the best team in the NFC. I think

(58:46):
there's a lot that cancels out in this game. The
Vikings are better than any team at covering the tight end.
George Kittle is the best tight end in football. The
Niners are the best takeaway the deep pass. Kirk Cousin's
a very good deep ball passer. So I think they
just comes down to a couple of different little things,
and that would be roster, talent, coaching, and quarterback. And
I would say, again, Garoppolo with Kyle Shanahan is a

(59:09):
better quarterback than Kirk Cousins in that infrastruction with that
talent around him. So I'm going to give the nod
to the Niners because of that. I think it might
be close, but I would say maybe ten points. I
think the Niners are really good, Okay. I like the
Ravens to blow out the Titans. Rich Orenberger who's very bright,
does not calling the upset. How do you see it?
I think it's Ravens too. I think it's similar to

(59:29):
the Niners. They the best team of their conference and
then they're going to win. I think that Lamar Jackson
is You know, there's so many theories on how to
beat Lamar Jackson and no one has really done it
in any meaningful way. The Chargers did it when he
was basically a different player. Last he wasn't the same
with seven defensive backs. I had a conversation with the
guy named Jerome Baker, who plays linebacker for the Dolphins
a couple weeks ago, and he said that the problem

(59:50):
with Lamar is if you're too slow, he'll just run
right past you. But if you're too fast, he knows
exactly how to use that against you, and he knows
exactly how to play the angles and just lay you
overrun him. And that's the problem with Lamar is if
you're too fast or too slow, you will fail. And
that is the problem that every defense has. Either they're
fast and physical and they can't touch him, or they're

(01:00:10):
too fast and they overrun him and they overthink this thing.
He crosses the line of scrimmage at thirteen miles per
hour when he runs, which is I drove drove east
to West Los Angeles. I did not go thirteen miles
per hour at any point during that drive, and Lamar
Jackson that's his average. I just don't know how an
NFL defense reckons with that. And then you add in
the fact that he's the third best passer by passer rating.

(01:00:32):
I mean it is going to take something very very special.
I like the Titans. I like Derrick Henry A. J. Brown,
all the stuff they've done. I think you add in
on the defense that the Ravens blitzing and Tannehill's propensie
to fall down over his career, I don't see this
particularly encouraging for the Titans, all right, Andy Reidoff a
bye is remarkable. They get one here against the Houston
team that was out gained and trailed more than lad

(01:00:56):
I can't if I was a sports gambler, I just
would not bet Texans games. Ever. I think they're impossible
to figure out. They're a flag football team with four
minutes to go with the best flag football quarterback in
the league. Kansas City feels like a significantly better team
and By the way, Kevin, their defense has been terrific
from about last six weeks. Yeah, Kansas City's all we

(01:01:17):
wanted Last January. All anybody talked about in the media
was if the defense gets a little bit better, Thedens
gets a little bit better, they fire Bob Sutton. Well
that happened. In fact, they've gotten a lot better over
the past month. They shut down the Patriots, although that
ended up not being as big as an accomplishment as
we thought. But then they hold the drew lock to
three points biscuity of three points. They have been salad
Tron Matthews playing really well, and so I think that

(01:01:39):
generally this is the team we wanted to see last January.
The only problem is Mahomes is not putting up the
numbers he put up last year. But he's basically the
same guy. I feel like we've all collectively forgotten. Think
the Beatles movie yesterday, right, we all woke up, and
I feel like I'm the only person who remembers how
good Patrick Mahomes just we're not talking about I'm talking
about Lamar Jackson. And I've said this before. I like Lamar,
But if you said next ten years, who's the better

(01:02:00):
quarterback like Mahomes going to run the league. Yeah, he's
an unbelievable, all time transformational talent without a doubt. And
for all the things Lamar does, the hardest thing to
defend in the history of the NFL is a perfectly
thrown pass. Patrick Mahomes throws perfect passes. Ye, and that's
why I think, Okay, Justin Reid is a really good
player back there for the Texans, They're actually pretty good

(01:02:20):
against the deep ball. But I think that they just
have too many weapons. And Kansas City, I think Travis
Kelsey but would have pick them apart. I don't see
this as as anything more than maybe a ten point game.
All right. Finally, Seahawks Packers Seattle. It's it's you know,
listen if you listen to this show. I think in
my lifetime, Russell Wilson's the most underappreciated colleger pro player

(01:02:41):
I've ever seen. People forget. He went to Conservative Wisconsin,
completed seventy three percent of his throws, thirty three touchdowns,
four picks, but because he was an inch too short,
we're not going to take him. People think Lamar was underdrafted.
Literally all Russell Wilson did in college at the most
conservative offense was created firework show. I give Seattle kind

(01:03:03):
of a shot because of Russell. Do you in this game?
I actually think that the Selfs aren't win very very close. Now,
the Packers, I think, are a better team than we
give them credit for it. I saw some stats the
worst one of the worst thirteen and three teams in history.
Oh they are. That's a nice problem to have. I'd
rather be one of the worst thirteen and three teams
in history than one of the best nine and seventeen.

(01:03:24):
So listen, the Packers has done a nice team building job.
Zadarius Smith's one of the best players in defensive To
get he was at a really good price, really good price,
and it could you match if he's still on the Ravens.
How good that team would be my guy. But he
leads the NFL and pressures right now. And I think
that they've done a nice job again of building around
a really expensive quarterback and figuring out what they needed
to do when free agency is basically as good as

(01:03:44):
you can do when you're paying a quarterback that much. However,
I think Russell Wilson is one of the two three
best quarterbacks in football. I'd actually say it's right now,
it's Lamar Wilson and Maho me. Last week he said
it's the best football player in the world. YEP, it's
not crazy and he can make plays. And now DK
Metcalf breaking the rookie record form for receiving yards last week.

(01:04:08):
I mean the DCA Metcalf is a good example of
what smart teams do with the dumb teams, don't They
looked at DCA mecalf said what can he do? Not?
What can't he do? Okay, he couldn't run incredible routes,
the three cone was down, he couldn't change direction. Well
what can he do? He can run really fast and
catch passes and score touchdowns. And that the Seahawks didn't
overthink it. Now they've got a connection there. I don't
you know. Obviously the running games now where it needs

(01:04:28):
to be. Marshawn Lynch is not going to be insbroductive
as the guys he replaced were injured. But I think
this comes down to the last You should not have
sustainably close games and win. That's not supposed to happen.
You're supposed to you know, it's peace to be fifty
fifty or whatever. But the Seahawks have made it work.
They understand how to play in close games. I think
they win this game. They're almost like the Bizarro Chargers, right,

(01:04:49):
everything comes down to the end, but instead of the
Chargers who screw it up, the Seahawks make it work.
I like them close in this game. Kevin Clark, the Ringer,
you just do terrific work. Just still thirty three years old.
What kind of future is that? It's crazy, It's unfair.
He's our lamar. He's just got ten twelve years of

(01:05:09):
nothing but great articles. The Ringer, Kevin Clark, go to
what's your what's your Twitter handle? By Kevin Clark? All
right again, very clever. It's great seeing you on all
your success, happy marriage, good luck going forward, love having
on the show. Thanks all right, Joey with the news, No,
no turn on the news. This is the herd Line News.

(01:05:31):
Russell Westbrook returned to Oklahoma City last night. He did
for the first time as a member of the Houston Rockets.
For the game, the team showed their appreciation with the
tribute video, which was very nice, very touching video, and
then the crowd gave him as the ending ovation, which
they should yes, and after the game, Westbrook said that
it felt great to be back. Some things you can't

(01:05:52):
put into words, just because I've been there for so
long and so many great memories, great people. Obviously the
best fans in the world because they they come with
it in ninety they came with it. And organism, excuse me,
the organization Sam must have been in. You know, they

(01:06:15):
do an amazing job of just making you feel home.
And I feel like I was on It makes me happy.
And he was gonna he was a very efficient last night.
Harden was not efficient. Greg. How many shots did Harden take?
Not many? He took the night off. He was fourteen
of twenty six he had thirty four. Played it bali
And that's how he should have been treated. That's exactly

(01:06:37):
how it should have worked. Absolutely, And there was never
a thought in my mind that they wouldn't give him
a good reception. He was their guy, He stuck through it,
he was loyal. It's just sometimes this is a part
of the nature of the game. Like that's that's what
it should be. And Westbrook is a real one, Like
there was no there was no chance that his reception
of the fans and how he was going to act

(01:06:58):
last night was gonna be anything other than a It
was all gracious. Yeah, it was fun. It was good
to see a good reception like that as former teammates
coming up. Steven Adams, I loved it. I love seeing
stuff like this. It's it's a good reminder of like
what sports is because you know, our favorite athletes and
our favorite teams, they bring us back to a certain
point in our lives and bring us to like certain memories,

(01:07:20):
you know, and that's why we've become such fans of them.
This is an experience. Listen, you were into him, he
was into you. Just because you don't end up together.
It was all good. This was not an ugly divorce.
It was like we gave it everything we had. It
was it was time. We need to rebuild. And you deserve,
by the way, you deserve a good place to go.
So we're gonna send you to Houston, and they're well

(01:07:40):
run and well owned. I mean, it's like that's about
as well as it works. Yeah, it really does. It
really was so. Derrick Henry has have been a force
to be reckoned with this season, winning the regular season
rushing title with one thousand and five hundred and forty yards,
and Raven's defensive coordinator Don Martindale even compared him to
a video game in preparation for tomorrow's He's like one

(01:08:02):
of those, uh those guys that the kids create on Madden.
You shouldn't be that big and be able to run
like he runs. Obviously, you know we're gonna have to
bring our lunch pail, work at and and just go
play football with him, because that's that's what that's what
that's what Mike Gravel is doing with him. You know,
there's just they're just running the ball, our lunch pail

(01:08:22):
and work at love that one. He's right, he's big.
He is just a force rusk when he's running that
kind of he kind of reminds me a little bit
of Okay, look how small that linebacker is. Right? Remember
the video we were shown of Eric Dickerson the other day. Yes,
like Derrick Henry is bigger than Eric was. Now watch
the works this video for our FS one. Sorry radio guys,

(01:08:45):
the watch not not this one, but watch linebackers in
the next video. Now, look how small the Jacksonville linebacker
looks right here, Because he's huge and he runs standing up.
He runs tall, like how Marshawn Lynches is low and
just pounds through runs right through you. He just once
he gets going, he's He's impossible. He really is. He's
a force. He was thirty four carries one hundred and

(01:09:06):
eighty two yards in a rushing touchdown against New England's
And again I'm taking the Ravens to win this game.
But I do think that he is the X factor
obviously for the Titans, and how they start the game,
especially with him, really matters. But he's just been so
fun to watch this year too, Just really exciting player. Finally,
LSU takes on Clemson on Monday night for the national title.

(01:09:28):
Very excited to watch this game. Former LSU tiger Odell
Beckham Junior is trying to pump up his team, so
he sent each LSU player new Beats headphones. Can you
do that? And a note that why not? That's not
illegal or anything. NA doesn't bother me at all. I mean,
he's not a he's not a coach, he's not. I
don't see why not. Sorry that you can send? I

(01:09:49):
don't know. It's on Twitter, so I guess you're allowed
to do it. Now? Who did this? John roun the run.
Did that for a house? Okay, so you can do that. Yeah,
it should be allowed. Why wouldn't Why And that's that's
I don't know whatever. Anyway, he sent them Beats headphones,
really nice ones, and then he sent a note said,
this is your opportunity to leave behind a legacy and
write yourself into the history books, not just as the

(01:10:11):
undefeated national champions, but as legends. You're here for a reason.
Now make it count. Best of luckman, hashtag go Tigers
like that. I'm surprised that's legal, because are the MC
double A and gifts. They get very jurassic, they're very archaic.
They do get kind of crazy about it. But I
don't think that this is I think I think once
you get to they get all kinds of gifts, once

(01:10:32):
they get to the National Championship and all these bull games,
they get bags and stuff, as they should. So what
it's headphones, It's it's not that You're right, they do
give a bunch of swag bags. Yeah. Games, So LSU
are six point favorites Fox Bet right now for this game.
So I gotta I gotta get I get Clemson and
six points. Yeah, I think I'm gonna I think LSU's
gonna win this game. So I get the better coaching

(01:10:53):
staff and the better quarterback and six points. Stata Bowl
could be one of the great bets in the three
of college football. I'm very excited for this game though.
I think it's going to be an all time great game.
No good stuff, Joy with the news. Well that's the news,
and thanks for stopping by the herd. Lie, It's just nothing.

(01:11:14):
I'm gonna work out after the show today because all
I'm gonna do all weekend is sit and eat. By
the way, I watched a crazy documentary last night. That's right. Yeah,
we can't say the word on air. Don't it's about cats,
don't crow. I watched three and a half hours of it.
Does it make you feel so? I have very limited
TV watching time available. Yes, I didn't watch Warts and

(01:11:35):
naps and working out notting. I just don't have a
lot of time, so I always pick one show. So
I'm watching you right now. Yeah, and then I'm going
to get onto Power Finish Power. But I've heard a
lot about this documentary, so does it make you feel
sad afterwards? Though? Because I don't like that. No, the
conclusion is a good conclusion. Well, I mean it's as
good a conclusion as you can have for a sad

(01:11:56):
you don't feel like, No, I didn't see they don't
show the Cats of not much. Yeah, just just just
look up the Cats show. It's heavy though it's Oh no,
it's heavy. It is. It is a wurlitzer on your back.
You just finished. That's all sorts of weird, all right.
Eric Dickerson, who's not is joining us coming up. Be

(01:12:17):
sure to catch live editions of The Herd Weekdays and
Noon Easter ninety em Pacific. One of the great running
backs of all time, A Hall of Famer, Eric Dickerson,
Bring him on the show brought to you by Mercedes
Benz The Best or Nothing. You're sponsored by Mercedes Ben's
my friend, Classy Classy. Yes, I had a Mercedes bands

(01:12:37):
once upon a time. Oh, you should get another when
they're beautiful? Are you buying them out? Taking? Let me
I want to talk before we get into the games.
I do want to ask you about because Tom Brady
Um loves football. Let me ask you did you want
to retire? Um? That's a good question, coning kind of
because the NFL is since made me not like football anymore.

(01:13:02):
But I still loved it in my heart because I
first got that. I loved everything about football. I love
to smell. When you go out, you can smell. I
knew that. I said, football season, you just mess. You
could smell the grass. I just loved everything about it. Playing.
I even loved practice because I practice hard. I mean
I feel like I had some of my best moves
in practice. And when I look at Tom, I think
the same thing. He he loves football. He loves it.

(01:13:24):
I mean, it's nothing you're gonna do in your life.
Tip right now, there's nothing in my life that has
ever taken place of football. I don't care. Nothing, nothing
has replaced the love. Nothing, not, not at all. A
matter of fact, we did. I had a thing we
did last year, um at the Super Bowl for the
Hall and it was five guys on the panel, and
you know, they asked to all the Hall of famers,
you know, what are you doing that as you know

(01:13:45):
that you love, you know, after football, and all the
guys me gave political answers. And I say, hey, I'm
almost gonna be honest with you. I said me nothing.
I say, my love of football has nothing. And I
was hoping something would take that away, but still not
things ever replaced it. No, I tell my wife all
the time, I love broadcasting. I was into radio, not

(01:14:06):
as much sports. I just love that. And imagine if
you're a CEO of a company and say, what a
big company and you're making a lot of money, But
would you would you be to feel the same way
about it? You know, I loved radio the way you
did football. I love prepping for our radio, right, you
like you just love everything about joyces that every morning.
I'm more into the prep than the show. I love it.
All right, So let's go. Let's go to the matchups.
I got a feeling you got some crazy upsets because

(01:14:28):
you are crazy. You still haven't eaten inn all right,
of course you will. You'll have a You'll have a
frosted flake. One cut it in half, all right? Vikings
and Niners, Eric, what do you think? Well, I know
everyone's gonna take the Ninus and I hate the Ninus,
and I'm going with the Minnesota Vikings. I think the
Vikings have the team to beat the forty nine ers

(01:14:50):
in San Francisco Press. No one thought they could beat them,
beat New Orleans at home, and they went there beat him.
Kirk Cousins played great, Digs played great. Um, this football
team I think is prying for another I might says
the upset. I think I think they're going to be
a better team. I think that I think they're better
football team. For the record, Jimmy G's never been in
a playoff game. Nope, that's that's pressure too. If this

(01:15:13):
is really Jimmy G's first year, and you look at it,
it really is because he got hurt last year. No,
you're right, this is his first year. This is really
his first year and a pressure. By the way, it's
not on Kirk Cousins. No, he just had the best
play of his career. Well, he won a playoff game,
so I mean, seriously, he may not win another, but
the pressure is not on him. How about Titans Ravens. Well, um,

(01:15:36):
and I like I like big Derrick Henry. The way
he runs looks like you, big guy, big guy. But
I have to go to Baltimore Ravens. I mean, I
don't think the league has not figured them out yet.
They haven't had enough time. And I think people say, well,
you know, they've had three weeks off, But I don't
think it makes it means anything. I think they'll come
right back and just get right back in the rhythm
I'm taking to Baltimore Ravens and there. Yeah, I think
the Niners are the only team in the league, maybe

(01:15:58):
a little Kansas city that matter up with them. I
also think they've given Derek Henry. How many games in
a row he's had two? Was over thirty carries? Thanks
six six games in a row. Let's not you know
what the colon if you had that kind I was
that kind of back. I didn't want fifteen, eighteen, twenty carres.
I wanted those thirty carriages, thirty two, thirty seven. You
can do it back to back. Oh, I won't forget.

(01:16:19):
We played. We played Chicago in eighty or eighty six,
and after the Super Bowl paid him in Chicago a
Monday night football game. We beat him. I think had
I think I had thirty two carries. We go to
New Orleans. We're flying over to New Orleans that that
night because we're not coming back to LA and John
Robinson asked me, said, uh, can you do it again?
I knew what he was getting at. I said, do

(01:16:39):
what can you carry thirty times again? I think we
might need you to do it. I said, I can
do it. I said, just let me take take it
like a day off from practice. I can just go
run drill. He said, Okay, you got it. So I
did it again. Hydrate all right, tex And have a
chance to beat Kansas City. They beat him before, didn't
He like Houston. I like Hughes. I like Houston's. I mean,

(01:17:02):
if they if they have will Full in that game,
and I know he's I think a game time decision
because he really opens the field up for Deante Hopkins,
I mean John Jr. Hopkins. I just I like the Texans.
I mean, I know that the offensive line isn't great.
Kansas City is not gonna get the same pressure on
the on the on Watson as Buffalo Bills did. So

(01:17:24):
you know I'm taking I'm taking the Texas and I'm
from Texas. I mean a lot of pressure on my homes.
All the pressures on my homes, no pressures on the
on Watkins at all, because everybody expects my homes to win.
This is they expect. I mean, they expect Andy Reid.
You know he's at home playoff game. But I'm taking
the Texans. Finally, Seattle and Green Bay. I love me
from Russell Wilson. Can he pull? I know you love

(01:17:44):
Russell Wilson to death, you know. And I love Aaron Rodgers.
I think Aaron Rodgers has you know what John always
finally get at the end of his career. A running game.
You know they have They have a running there. People
forget that. Yeah, when you can run, the running, the
run sets up everything. And you might you might think
that you're gonna get rid of the run. But the run,
you have to run the football. And they have a
running game. Great defense at home, it's gonna be like

(01:18:04):
twenty degrees there. I'm taking a Green Bay Packers. By
the way, I want to go back to UM. I
want to go back to San Francisco and Minnesota because
that's the first game of the weekend. When Garoppolo, we
always talk about, you know, this guy doesn't earn his money.
He didn't deserve his money. You know it's funny, Eric,
you get drafted in the NFL. We're gonna pay Joe
Burrow to and Justin Herbert and they've never taken a

(01:18:27):
snap in the NFL. Garoppolo was seven to oz with
two smart coaches. Kind of a good looking confident guy.
And I was, like, I remember saying, I would I
would pay him now, Well, I mean, I just think
he played with a certain swagger. I mean I saw
him in the New England system. He figured it out.

(01:18:47):
He was Brady except mobile. Did you did you think
he would work? Yeah? I did. I thought he'd work
in San Francisco. And I really believe that Bill Belichick
did him a great favor. I mean, just like Tom
Brady and Robert Craft are tight, Belichick and Sharoppolo are tight.

(01:19:08):
And Shanahan and so that that that move was a
take for Bill Belichick. Take care of my guy away.
I'm gonna send him. I'm gonna send him to you, Shanahan,
you take care. You know what I thought. I honestly
thought this Bill Belichick has great reverence for the game history,
that he respects Mike Shanahan, and he did Mike Shanahan's
son a solid absolutely believe it. Yeah he did, because

(01:19:30):
you know, Belichick loves the history of the sport almost definitely,
and Shanahan is one of the most innovative offensive guys ever.
And I thought, I mean, all they had to give
up for Garoppolo was a second round pick. You couldn't
get more than that. I think he I honestly think
he did in my favor. Again, I'll get either the
other conference. And it's a respect to Shanahan, like you said,

(01:19:52):
he did in my favor, because most teams, like they
want to send you to Siberia, they're not trying to
help you. They're trying to hurt you. I mean. So
it just shows the respect that Bill Belichick hass for
Shanahan and for Garoppolo. So do you think the Rams
were trying to hurt you to send you to the colt?
You think he said it? He said, I want to
see you. I want to see you in the Siberia.
They send me out there, I can't leaves. It was close.
It was on the edge of side be I was

(01:20:13):
living over the cliff. Come on, give me a break. Indianapolis,
you know, it used to be called Naptown because it
was so boring. But it's good. They've they've shored it
up a little bit. Like when you would go out
to Indianapolis for the night, what would you do. Let
me tell you a story about Indianapoli. Okay, we got thirty,
got thirty, say okay, now, this is the first time
I've ever seen a clan rally. Oh, come on area.

(01:20:34):
It was downtown. Okay, that's all I need to need
to know that. So but it was don't get me wrong,
it was things about India I did like. But I
wasn't ready for that. When my uncle comment said, turn
of television. Oh, boy said, turned it on? I said
what he said, you see boy? So there you go.
You've got a nice Panera bread Downtown Hour three? Will
black Men coming up? One more? Heard? The Herd streams

(01:20:56):
twenty four hours a day, seven days a week within
the iHeart Radio. I search her to listen live or
on demand whenever you'd like. Sunday, Russell Wilson leads the
Seahawks into Lambeau for a showdown against Aaron Rodgers and
the Packers in the NFC Divisional Round. It All starts
at six eastern on Fox and the Fox Sports app Colin.
One of the questions for this week's Super six NFL

(01:21:18):
playoff contests is which team will win and by how
many points? Who do you like in this game? Packers
twenty seven twenty three hell of Russell Wilson doesn't have
any weapons anymore except dk Metcalf. Look, let's hear a
round of applause. Will Blackman ten years in the NFL
Super Bowl, Champ got his pen. You are a semi
wine Somalia at the Beverly four Seasons. Let me see

(01:21:40):
the pen is very impressive. And there I got both
pins from the Court of Massive Somalia and the Wine
and Spirits education charts. I'm pinned up right now. That
is sweet. So let's put some sophisticated food music on.
Let's play a little game Wine Somalia almost hold on,
it's very sophisticate. It excuse me, matro Dick and I
have a seat some Oh yeay, Will, I'm having scalops.

(01:22:02):
See scallops from the Atlantic. What would you recommend to
drink tonight? Well, since you like the the the ocean
atmosphere and you want something that has some limestone and
all kinds of fossilization, maybe the sheblis from Burgundy. It's
very interesting. You know, some sa Savian blanc would be
great too. Yeah, I've changed my order. I want a
pork chop Somalia. Will, what would you recommend for the

(01:22:25):
pork chop? Well, anytime we get something like that, you
know possibly you can go some peino noir, and I
heard Joy likes rabbits rabbit peano wire as well, because
that or a Northern Romean style like Sarah would be
some very thank you a wine Somalia will that's very impressive.
That's very impressive. That's dude, that's it's it was hard,

(01:22:45):
especially like the pairing part. I'd tell the coolest thing
I did at the exam is I stood up and
offered to do a complete blind taste, blind tasting, and
I called it. It was Barosa, Sure, she ras Sharaz,
it's she Raz Australia. But I said twenty seventeen. It
was two and sixteen. Holy good lord, I can't tell

(01:23:08):
coke from diet coke. I can't believe you could do that.
That's unbelievable. I'll show you. All right, that's fine, Okay,
let's start with this. Didn't you play for Mike McCarthy.
I believe you did four years? Okay, so let's deep
die for cowboy fans. Did you enjoy it? I did
enjoy it. What did you like about Mike? His integrity?
It does talk about that. Yeah, I just thought that

(01:23:30):
he had a plan when he was hired in two
thousand and six, same year I was drafted, So you
were his guy. I was one of his guys. Yeah,
and we also you know sign Chaws Woods in that
season two, and I just like the fact that he
he had a plan and if there was an issue,
he was able to confront the issue and handle it.

(01:23:50):
So his the first thing I remember in the meeting
he would always say, he would say, conflict is good
and the reason why is because it gives us a
chance to understand each other than more. Doesn't have to
be an argument like you know, cussing each other out
and saying this that, but if there's a situation, that
means like we're trying to understand and figure it out.
So I remember, you know, there were a couple of
times where with Charles Woods in that they had a

(01:24:13):
bunch of arguments either in training camp or because Charles
wanted to do things a certain way, and they were
able to eventually find a common ground where Charles understood like, Okay,
let me, he's expecting this out of me, so enough
to gain his respect. You know, somebody already had a
great pedigrege, so he had coaching integrity. You trusted him.
I did his word was a bond. Word was a bond.

(01:24:33):
That's great. Not all coaches are like that. Hell no,
there's a lot of guys out there. There's some car
salesmen in the business. I mean selling used cars with
fake mileage on it. Mike wasn't that guy. No, Now
you think he'll be good with Dak. I think he
would be great with Dak. And I went on record
on Fox Sports Radio Sundays with Mike Harmony, and I

(01:24:53):
went on saying, I think that would be a great
fit for him to go there. You got a coach
with great prestige going to, you know, an iconic place
in Dallas, and I think it's great. And I feel
like with his experience and his coaching with far and Rogers,
I think it would be great for him to obviously

(01:25:14):
show the film and help Dak out because I think
that's that's what Dac needs. He needs. I thought he
needs someone like McCarthy. I've been asking all of our
guests this today. I do think number show Tom Brady
is a little more rigid than he's ever been. I
saw the other day Carson Palmer said, you know, he
can't hit those dig routes. He just can't make certain throws.
I do think it's a perfect time to retire. He's

(01:25:37):
not going to what do you think keeps driving him.
It's not the money, right, It is definitely not the money.
It's the love. Did you love the sport? Yes? And
it's it's funny because I was really obsessing, kind of
a little bit psychotic when it came to the game,
like if if somebody wants to play football, let's go.
Someone wants to work out and train, like, let's go.

(01:25:57):
When I was in London for two months, I contacted
one of the local proteins because I know they have,
like you know, passing league seven on seven games, and
I brought my cleats with me to London and I played,
you love football, but you were able. Eric Dickerson says
he's never found anything to replace it. You have found
beyond your family. You found wine. Yes. And one of

(01:26:19):
my men's group, Jim Lorette's former baseball players Yankees, he's
in my group, and we talked about that and the
hardest thing I mentioned it before is to transition into
the league, you know, to find your way and transition
out of the league, to find your way again. So
what else am I going to be passionate about the
easiest bet? For most players, they do what they go coach, right,
that's right. They already know the game they go coach,

(01:26:40):
and for me, it end up legit. I know we
joke around about it, but wine is for real. I
die hard. You're deep into it, yes, And that has
been the hugest thing because for me when I was,
you know, even getting into TV, I helped coach out
of high school. I do combine training right now, and
there's a lot of stuff that I can do, but
it's like, man is the one thing because if I

(01:27:02):
can't find it, I guess what. I'm gonna keep playing.
I'm gonna keep trying to play. Listen, I started playing tennis.
I told my wife I was getting home at one,
and I don't I go to bet at nine forty
five to ten, and I'm like, I gotta find a hobby.
And I got into tennis. You watch some videos, you
read a couple of books, you start playing. Otherwise you're
sitting around all day, Yeah, having cocktails at one lose
in your mind. All right, let's let's let's talk about

(01:27:24):
the should retire. Last year well, I get it. Yeah,
I think he had his worst year, and I think
some of it is not the receiver's fault. Some of
it's Tom Let me let me ask you about this. Okay,
So just when I say Niners Vikings, how's the game
gonna look? The game is gonna look where Kyle Shannon's
going to continue to use every single person on offense.

(01:27:45):
Everyone's gonna touch the football, every running basketbn touch the football,
every receiver, every tight end, and it's just gonna be
too much. They're gonna they're gonna come out with ten
thousands of formations and it's really gonna throw Minnesota off.
Did you ever face a team that was complex, gave
you multiple looks? Yeah, it was the Patriots. It was
the Patriots. And did it confuse you? It made me

(01:28:07):
work way harder during the week because they can come
out they can come out in a formation let's say
eleven personnel that's three receivers, right, and they can come
out with you know, maybe twenty three personnel, which is
two tight ends and you know, three running backs and
line up like it's four wide. So guess what, you
got a bunch of linebackers who have to cover in space,

(01:28:29):
you know. So I think the teams that have multiple
formations is very, very difficult. Playing against Payton Manning was
not difficult because he didn't give you much. But that's
why I respect him so much, because he will line up,
he didn't motion anybody, Yeah, and he will call out
that we knew if he was a paint man was
under centered to run. If he shot gun, it's to pass.

(01:28:50):
So he had a lot of information. He told you
he already knew, but he's still executed. He wasn't trying
to trick it. Payton had like six plays. Tell me
Joe Montana and the Niners. Everybody talked about the West
Coast offense and I had a safety once for the Raiders.
Tell me I knew what they were doing. I still
couldn't stop it. Right, he goes, they were so efficient
and so precise, I still couldn't stop it. We played

(01:29:12):
Denver and Payton was so getting mad, trying to get
the audios out, and Demius Thomas was like, what, like
what what? He's like, Demarrius run a freaking goal route?
You just gotta go route? And I'm like, are you
kidding me? You're just gonna tell I'm standing Ray, you
gotta tell him he's running. I was like, I don't
believe it. Go Route caught the damn ball too. I

(01:29:33):
couldn't believe it. But well, efficiency, it's it's the element
of surprise helps, but ultimately you can't fool people. But
I think that the complexity will give Minnesota issues and
then for Kurt to come back will be tough. Ravens Titans,
how does that game gonna look? This game is very,
very interesting. I'm not gonna ever bet against Lamar, but
if there was going to be an upset, I can

(01:29:55):
see it. I can see this being the game I
look back, you know the Cleveland game where you know,
Cheb had over one hundred and sixty, took Baltimore totally
out of their comfort zone. Lamar was forcing it has
some turnovers. I can see that happening. But I just
I've seen what it looks like when teams start having
fun and having lots of success and nothing bothers them.

(01:30:18):
What do you mean with Baltimore? Like, every every single
person in the organization, from Bashadi to the groundskeeper, everyone
is in. Everyone has bought in. Everyone's on the same page.
Everyone is holding each other accountable and you see it.
It doesn't matter who's in the game. That's why I said.
They remind me of Carolina with Cam in twenty fifteen.
There was a certain tsunami. It was just like they

(01:30:42):
believed in it. Yeah, they were new, we were the
league was trying to kind of figure Cam out. They
were healthy, they got ill. Says that you took rid
of them out. They were healthy. Yes, that was the
biggest thing. Yeah, but by the end of the year,
it matters. It is m Texans Chiefs. Any chance had
an upset Andy Reid's good bye, Yeah, I don't. I
don't see it being an upset, especially watching the game

(01:31:04):
with the Bills. I just feel like Kansas City has
way too much on offense, way too much. But j
Shaun is going to do everything in his power to
keep them in a game. But I just feel like
this is gonna get out of hand early. You know,
you know a lot of people feel that Kansas City
is interesting because Andy Reid, if you just take everybody's
eight best players Kansas City, you can make an arguments

(01:31:25):
way up there. From Mahomes Tyreek, Travis Kelty, Kelty, h Kelsey,
Chris joined Chris Jones, Frank Clark. Actually, Honey Badger is
a fascinating player. I had a NFL scout tell me
one time about Honey Badger, who's come over to the Chiefs.
He said, he's a weird player. He doesn't thump like

(01:31:46):
a safety. He can't cover your best guy. He said.
His tape is amazing out of LSU. Yes, he's the
most instinctive secondary player I've ever seen. Ed Reid. He
goes the ball's loose, it bounces right into Honey Badger's arms.
He's at the right place Ed Reid had that he's in.
He's in the Ed Reid and Charles Woodson category always

(01:32:08):
in the There's a video of Charles Woodson and Ed
Reid at the Browns game versus the Bills, and Josh
Allen throws the ball away. It hits Charles right in
the chest. He's watching the game on the sidelines, and
so he catches it and he runs the other way,
and so the video of him at they would talk
and he was like, I know what to do with it.

(01:32:29):
When I get it always happens. I totally agree, and
I think too, I know the numbers that doesn't show
how successful they are but just situational bringing the Honey
Badger and Steve's Bagnola a championship. Yeah. And finally Seattle
Green Bay. I would love Seattle if Penny was healthy
and Carlson was healthy. If they're backs healthy, yeah, Carson,

(01:32:50):
I would love it. I think if Seattle's run game
was intact, plus they lost procise ye, they're out of people.
You know, they had seventeen carries for nineteen yards against Philadelphia,
So I just think Seattle out of people. That's where
the game went. How it went. It was tough, it
was super tough. Do you think they can beat Green Bay? Um?
If they can't run the ball. I don't think so.

(01:33:11):
I think if Russell says back then and tries to
go shop, Roger'll lose that battle. Yeah. So, uh, it's
great to have you. And Josh McDaniels is going to
get the Cleveland Browns job. What do you make of that?
That's for sure? For sure? Well, it sound just reading
Mary Kay Cabot, she's a reporter. She said, if the
interview goes, well, his wife's there, he's from Ohio, and
you know what he's he's got. You know, certain franchises

(01:33:36):
in America or what I call low sports self esteem
they reach, Yeah, and they were turned on by Baker's cockiness.
There these kind of franchises are turned on by the
cocky coach and the cocky quarterback. They were turned on
by Johnny Manzille's foolishness. They were turned on by Baker
because I feel like they were starving. They need they

(01:33:57):
they low self esteem franchises, you know, like I mean Buffalo,
give us t O, we love t O. And I
think Josh McDaniels, the hubris, the cockiness, he fits Cleveland.
He'll he'll it'll work. I don't know if it will work,
fill the seats, it'll do. The cockiness what you're talking about. Yeah,
I like this, and I think it might be a

(01:34:20):
package deal because I think Nick as Sarrios contract, you
know him, he's he's the GM of the Patriots, Yes,
and I think his deal is up because there was
rumors of him talking to Boy Belichick hates Cleveland. They
fired him and they take his guys, take his GM
and his offensive cord. And I think this will be
the first person with credentials that Baker would listen to, hopefully,

(01:34:43):
And because Hugh you know, I listen to Hugh they
put in Freddy, he still feels like he was aboff Freddy,
no question, feels like he's above a lot of people.
And I think this is the one coach McDaniels where
he would come in and he's like, okay, he coached
Tom Brady for a long time. Yeah, you know under
I can I can put myself in the situation where

(01:35:03):
I can possibly sit down and I will listen. Can
we have sophisticated music again? For Will Blackman? Almost a win?
Almost to wine? I'm having a New York strip, medium
rad with whole stratish tonight with some Brussels sprouts finally fried.
What could I have, mister Blackmun? Well, it depends, you know,
if if if the strip has any kind of fat

(01:35:24):
on it, which you probably want a little marbling, a
little marbling, but a great wine that goes with steak
of the ribi or strip with some marbling on it.
You want a high tannic wine like a Cabernet or Morlot,
because what happens is is that the fat cuts through
the tannins and balance it out to make it really smooth. Shadne,

(01:35:46):
what is this axi Pinot Grey. I just talking places
in his normal voice. So I don't know. I'm gonna
go to Burger King after the show. You kidding me.
I'm easy to plase. Bud Will Blackman's great seeing you
cab with the burger, cab with the burger too, tin
No wire actually goes well with salmon. People don't know
that it is, by the way. Michelin and Duran TEXTI
silicon wiper blades available at Walmart real world, proven two

(01:36:09):
times longer than other blades. Michelin joy with the news.
Thankfud No, no on the this is the herd Line news.
You're really going to Herdburger after where? Yeah we have
beers and wines. I had wine at Herburger. Yeah, I
had a chardon Nay. They got wine at Harburger. Yeah
we have I have a Colin Countered Hertburger and Torrance.
It's very nice. But you have wine there. Yeah, we

(01:36:31):
have everything, dude, Come on the cocktails, beer wines at
the whole Fantasy scrunching ice cream is amazing, be very
nice this weekend, so too. As one below is expected
to be a high draft pick this year, but not
everyone is sold on his future. Ryan Leaf said he
thinks that too is talented, but he's not sure how
successful he'll be in the NFL. He's done everything in
college to make you believe he's going to be a

(01:36:52):
great quarterback. I just, for whatever reason, don't know if
his game translates to the next level. And and there's
nothing against the kid. I think he's amazing. He throws
the ball more accurately down the field than I think
I've ever seen a quarterback in college. To your point
a little bit earlier, the game's changing. It's more about
getting outside the pocket, doing things differently. And every time

(01:37:13):
he did do that, he got pulled down, he got
chased down, he got injured. And that for me, is
a red flag. It just is you all. The injury
is a real thing. It's a real thing. It doesn't
scare me off, but I think it scares some people.
The injuries scared me. Before this major injury with Tuah,
I was already a little hesitant. And then I think

(01:37:35):
the lap I was always the LSU game really changed that.
I thought he played at about sixty percent. I thought
it was great. They lost great. That was kind of
a moment for me, an epiphany I'm like, okay, I
like him. I think with Tua, I just want him
to go somewhere where he's not expected to come in
and start day one and be the guy day one.
And the way that the draft is looking and the

(01:37:56):
way that's set up right now, he probably won't have
to do that. And there are enough veteran quarterbacks that
are going to be available and moving around about to
go to Carolina moves up and they have Kyle Allen
for about eight games, just like Lamar Jacks or they
or they keep Cam Cam is not expensive this year,
keep Cam for another year. How would Cam like his
heir apparent being in the building. I don't know if

(01:38:17):
that's great and put them in a position where they
have to make it look at insecure. Brady got with
Garoppolo and he's got a zillion rings. Sometimes, you know,
quarterbacks are insecurity is a waste of time. Okay, I
totally agree on nobody should have time for that. Let's
go out and do what you do. But I think
if he I think if he goes to the Chargers,
it could be a little tricky because there's a lot

(01:38:41):
there's a lot of politics going on with the Chargers. Like,
is he gonna have to play right away? They have
to sell tickets, you know, Like how are the fans
gonna respond to him not being the guy? So I'd
like to see two A go somewhere where he can
just wait a year, make sure he's one thousand percent
healthy about Indianapolis moves up Jacoby Brissette one year later.
I like him an Indie. I think that would be
a good spot for I'm rooting for two of and

(01:39:01):
I think his personality would fit with. Gilford tells me
he's the best personality of any quarterback he's ever out
in camp. He was the one kid that elevated above
every other kid in terms of leadership, likability, relatability. Players
loved him. See That's why I don't really necessarily love
him with the Dolphins because I feel like another year
with Fitzpatrick, like he's gonna sit behind Fitzpatrick's They're gonna

(01:39:25):
be calling for him halfway through the season. I think
somebody's gonna job I honest, Joy Ives told you this.
I think I think somebody's jumping in number two. I
don't think the Chargers, the Colts Carolina are rolling the Dice.
I think they're moving right up to two. Now. He's
not gonna Here's no way he falls out of the
top ten in the draft. No way. Remember when a
month ago everybody said too was going to fall out
of the first round. Nonsense. It's silly, all right. So

(01:39:49):
no one knows what free agent Tom Brady is going
to do next season. Peter King has had a lot
of thoughts on what could happen with New England and
Tom Brady, but he thinks it's going to depend a
lot on the weapons he has around him. My gut
feeling is that Tom Brady is going to put a
premium on what he has around him. If you would

(01:40:09):
compare Mike Williams, Austin Ekeler, Hunter Henry and Keenan Allen,
you compare that set of talent right now to what
the New England Patriots have, it's really not very close.
I think the surrounding cast is going to end up
probably being a little bit more important than money. I

(01:40:30):
don't know why money would be the priority for Tom
Brady at this point. Well, guys, are you but this
is where you're a woman that you're very smart? Guys,
that's you know, that's that's a guy thing. Guys are
all guys are judged by sometimes earnings in professional career
and hundreds of millions. I don't know, but it's you've
heard this before. Got to show me respect. I think

(01:40:53):
that would just be weird. Well, sometimes we are, mostly
we are formidable. That's time. Actually, I mean that just
makes no sense to me. Like him making a move
so that he has a better roster makes perfect sense
if he wants to keep playing him going where he
can make the most money. Well, I'm saying is at
the end of my career, let's say seventeen years from now. Yeah,

(01:41:14):
but you have you ever felt like you've left Have
you left one hundred million dollars on the table? I
would not leave a nickel exactly, So that has to
make any sense. Like, if you're leaving all this money
on the table during your career when you deserve to
get paid the highest, and you could easily be paid
the highest, that makes sense. That to me is when
you play that ego move like I deserve respect, that
deserve that much money. Finally, Aaron Rodgers has lots of

(01:41:36):
postseason experience, but a majority of his teammates don't. Thirty
one of the fifty two players on the Packers roster
have never played in a playoff. That seems so much
younger than I thought crazy, So Rogers offered them a
little piece of advice. Boys, I think it's important too
to find that calm in your mind in these games

(01:41:57):
because it seems so much bigger. Obviously it's more important
because the winner go home, which he's the first sixteen
of the season aren't like that, but a great opportunity
to learn how to keep your boys and to stay
calm and to find that relaxed flow state in the game.
And I think the team that does it quicker and
sustains its used the team that wins. You know. Let

(01:42:18):
me let me give some respect for Aaron Rodgers. Here
show that video and he's talking again. He has great hair,
but still wears a hat on camera, showing that he's
not that vain if you have. If I had a
hair like Aaron Rodgers, I wouldn't let a hat come
next to it. He is a good looking man with
a great head of hair. You see it in the commercials.
He's very hip, but yeah, he doesn't care. He doesn't

(01:42:38):
want to show you his hair. He's like, I'll just
wear a packer hat. I like that about Aaron Rodgers.
I would literally never know what thing. I'm about to
turn the tide on that. That's him wearing his hat.
And he's a model because he could look like a model.
He wears a hoodie and a packer hat. He's got
the best. He's the busses to come out with a
share with his like Cliff Key. Have you ever seen

(01:42:59):
Cliffs king Berry. He didn't let a hat near his head.
He's like, look at my hair, it's amazing. I mean,
this is a deep psychological I'm telling you right now.
This is showing me. That's showing me about Aaron Rodgers.
He is all into that community and that team. I mean,
I suppose if he came out in like a button
down shirt. You ever noticed Doug Peterson Philadelphia visor. Look

(01:43:21):
at my hair, it's amazing. I'm older, it's gray, but
it's amazing. Maybe maybe he's getting humbled like the packers
this weekend because of the hair. I'm gonna take the
packers to cover. You think I'm crazy, that's kind. I
don't think you're crazy. I just never I've never thought
of that, like I've never You know, guys, when you
have good hair. It's like a guy that has muscles.

(01:43:43):
You are a tight shirt. If you're smart, you want
to show everybody your IQ. If you're funny, you crack jokes.
Guys have to show what they're good at when you
have that kind of hair and you're willing to put
a hat on. And he also is, you know, widely
considered the most talented or one of them talented quarterbacks
of all time. So he does do that every week,

(01:44:05):
so maybe the hair thing isn't as important to him.
Tell you what packers and a blowout. I really like it.
I really found that nobody else in the country solo awareness.
You're not going to get that in a lot of
these RinkyDink shows at the other place. This show we uncover,
we get the scoops. Here, nobody talks about this but us.
Jason McIntyre joy with the news. Well that's the news,

(01:44:26):
and thanks for stopping by. Tomorrow's headlines Today it's the
Goofy segment and I love it. That's coming up. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays and
noon Easter nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio FS
one and the iHeartRadio app. Let's now waste any time.
It's called Tomorrow's headlines Today. The former newspaper Guy McIntyre

(01:44:47):
creates the headlines. So let's do tomorrow's headlines today. We
got five games. Let's start with Clemson LSU one of
the best college finals ever. Let's say you had a
beef with Dabos Sweeney a couple years ago. If you
guys are cool now, I believe the headline will be
swinning Dabo Sweeney. I think Clemson beats LSU Collins. I mean,

(01:45:10):
this is I'm very excited for this game. We're gonna
try to watch it together. Dabo Sweeney would have now
three titles that puts him in that upper echelon of
like all time great coaches in college football. And I'm
just obsessed with this Trevor Lawrence versus Joe Burrow matchup.
I had to do this video for Fox Sports where
I kind of matched him up and I said, I
think Trevor Lawrence is the better quarterback, and people are
killing me online. Joe Burrow fifty five touchdowns, Trevor Lawrence,

(01:45:34):
what he just did to Ohio State, I mean, do
you realize that was one of the best Big Ten teams?
In like the last decade. Joe Klatt. I mean this
is a great team. They beat and Trevor Lawrence, you know,
twenty five and oh as a starter, they have a
twenty nine game win streak. Here's a fun stat that
I just heard. This could be the most bet college
football game ever in the history of the sport. And

(01:45:54):
eighty five percent of the money's on LSU give me Clemson,
thank you tomorrow. Those headlines today Vikings Niners. Yeah, this
is It feels like a throwback game. Remember these good
series they had in like the late eighties. Chris Dolnan
for the Vikings, and they're gonna need him. I believe
the headline will be Cousins digs his own playoff grave. Hey,

(01:46:17):
what's up with Stefan Digsli? He's mad? What is that?
And now he's sick. He's yelling at his quarterback last week, unhappy,
he's not getting passes. Now he's under the weather and
Adam feeling his wingman cuts his ankle at practice. Not
one hundred percent. I think this is a forty nine
Ers spot. Big right here, Jimmy Garoppolo. We know the
history of quarterbacks in their first playoff game, not very good,

(01:46:37):
but Garoppolo matches up well with this Vikings defense. I
think the forty nine ers are the side here, Colin.
I really believe their defensive line has a huge advantage
over the Vikings old line. They get d Ford back,
great pass rusher on the edge. Tomorrow's headlines today Titans Ravens. Yes,
the MVP Lamar Jackson. He's gonna run wild here. The

(01:46:58):
headline will be Lamar's attacks. Yeah, I know, you saw
that funny nineteen nineties movie. This is a setting up
for a great Lamar Jackson performance. You love the analogy
of Mike Tyson. When you face Mike Tyson, just get
out of the first three rounds. The Titans have not
seen Lamar Jackson before. There's gonna be a shock to
the system when they go up against him. And even

(01:47:19):
if mark Ingram's not one hundred percent, I believe Lamar
Jackson has a monster game. If you look at how
the Titans defend tight ends one of the bottom ten
teams defensively, they just struggle to guard them. What does
Lamar Jackson do? Uses his tight ends more than anybody
in the league. I know it's a very chalky pick,
but I like the Ravens here big taken down the Titans.

(01:47:39):
Tomorrow's headlines today Texans Chiefs in Kansas City. Love a
good rematch, right, this should be a good one. Maybe
maybe not. I believe the headline will be Sherlock Mahomes
yet revenge h on doctor Watson. Look at that photo.
How about the graphics team here? Shout out to them.
Remember they met earlier this year and the Texans somehow

(01:48:02):
won that game for like two hundred yards. But if
you looked inside the stats, I mean, Mahomes could not
be stopped. The key was the Chiefs couldn't stop the run,
they couldn't hold on to the football, and you know,
the Texans come out with a lucky win. You know,
if you look at Bill O'Brien and his last two
playoff games, Colin, they've been outscoring the first half thirty
four nothing. No, it's it's he's getting in shouting matches

(01:48:23):
with fans. I just saw that on TMZ Sports very
ugly and Andy Reid off of Buy eighteen and three.
So this setting up for the Chiefs to put them
away early. Listen, this Chief's team is scary, honey Badger
playing well Mahomes. I think they win this one handily.
By the way, they'd be underdogs at Baltimore, which is
an interesting place to be that good with that coach.
And have you seen the line on them? Yeah? All right,

(01:48:46):
Tomorrow's headlines today Seahawks Packer game of the week in
the NFL. It's gonna be on Fox. Um. You know
I like my music, Colin. We do love to bring
some songs back. Here we go. The headline on Monday
will be bringing in green Bay back. Yeah you like that? No,
you don't know that Joy? You know that song justin Timberlake.

(01:49:12):
Thank you, Colin Dancing. I don't think I've ever Yeah, jam, Well,
he's very high on green Bay now he should be.
I mean, I know you have, you know, a history
with Aaron Rodgers, but this is a Seattle team that's
so beat up. Did you see four of their offensive
linemen have been in and out of practice this week? Yeah?
And the Packers coming off of by the problem with

(01:49:32):
Green Bay and why the analytics guys hate them is
their numbers are not good. They know they're they're not down,
They're not great at anything. Even Aaron Rodgers passer rating
is down. Yeah, but he's got twenty six tds. I
think four picks when you look at uh, you know,
the Packers against bad teams, they let him hang around.
They don't put them away against good teams. Seven and
one against the spread, teams with winning records. I don't

(01:49:52):
think this is a close one. I got a feeling,
you know, the last two years home teams in this
round are seven and one. We could see four double
digit blowouts this weekend in the NFL. It just doesn't
feel like any of them are close. Are you picking
any dogs here? I think Minnesota's got a good push,
but no, yeah, all right, it could be close. My
dog is Clemson Monday. Bette Nallotti, all right, Jason mcintirefiel
