Kanye West on Trump: Anything Can Happen in America

It seemed like Kanye West had the whole world talking about him since he rejoined Twitter last week and declared his love for President Donald Trump, claiming they both have "dragon energy" and that the divisive president is "my brother." West's celebrity friends, including John Legend and Chance the Rapper, have tried to walk The Life of Pablo rapper back from his controversial political statements to no avail. West doubled down on his support for Trump and even claimed Legend was attempting to manipulate his free thought. West's support is obviously confusing for many of his fans and he hasn't offered up much explanation for why he "loves" Trump. Now, though, West has finally opened up about his claims in a tell-all interview with Charlamagne Tha God.

"It's an outsider thing," West said. "When I see an outsider infiltrate, I connect with that." Charlamagne attempted to break down what West was saying, asking him if he connected with the idea that an outsider can infiltrate rather than actually supporting Trump's politics. West agreed with The Breakfast Club host's assessment.

It's no secret that West, though he's one of the most lauded rappers of our time, identifies as being an outsider. "When he was running, I felt something," West said of Trump's presidency. "The fact that he won proves something. It proves that anything is possible in America. I'm not talking about what he's done since he's been in office, but the fact that he was able to do it... I felt the non-conventional."

West didn't expand on what aspects of Trump's tenure as President of the United States that he disagrees with, but he made it clear that he connects more with the idea of Trump than supporting the man himself. While this won't necessarily stop people from disagreeing with West's support for our current president, it does offer more clarity on what he meant in his politically charged Tweetstorm. It's sure to spark more debate, as well, going forward.
