Intention isn't always necessary when creating art and that seemed to be the case for budding producer Andrew Luce and his recently-released "LANTERNS," which will appear on his forthcoming EP of the same name due June 7.
While the foot stomper clocks in at just two-and-a-half minutes, the number is the product of earnest songwriting, a fulfilling melody and a warm vocal track from Someother. Atop light effects, the Toronto crooner lets listeners into a candid space of vulnerability. "All I think about is you (you) (you) (you)/ All I think about is long days and long nights," he confesses on the mildly somber hook.
In a statement sent to iHeartRadio, Luce revealed that the song was made on a random evening when he was playing around with his guitar on a drum loop. In just 15 minutes, the hook to the track "poured out of [him]" but he didn't know exactly what to do with it. "Weeks later, Someother reached out to me via email as a fan asking for advice on a song he was working on," Luce said via e-mail. "I was so enamored with his voice that I asked to work with him, and the idea he sent ended up being the hook for the track. His initial idea was much slower, but I had one of those moments where I realize it would shine a bit better as something more upbeat. I put his vocals on the instrumental I had been sitting on, and 'LANTERNS' was made."
Even though it may have been born out of a space of directionless creativity, Luce admitted that the track is without a doubt his favorite song that he's ever put out. Expect even more from the rising act when LANTERNS drops via Fool's Gold Records this summer.
