Meghan Markle spent her weekend enjoying a spot of polo this weekend, as you do when you become a literal British princess. She wasn't just there for the crumpets and tea - wait, is that what they serve at fancy polo matches in England? - the Duchess of Sussex was there to support her hubby Prince Harry while he played in the Audi Polo Challenge. While I'm sure polo is very exciting, the highlight of the weekend was the Duchess's casual wardrobe. Markle wore pants in public for the first time since the Royal Wedding and she looked as chic as ever.
This isn't the first time Markle has worn pants, of course, but it's notable because it's been all skirts and pantyhose for Markle since she said "I Do" back in May. While the former actress was able to sidestep some royal protocol during her engagement to Prince Harry, she's quickly fallen into step since officially joining the Windsor clan. This is one of the first times Markle has been seen in public since her nuptials that hasn't been for official royal business. We all loved those cute pictures of Markle giggling with Queen Elizabeth, however, it's nice to see Markle in a somewhat normal setting, enjoying the sunshine in a casual pair of black, jean capris You can see the photos of Markle's laid back look here.
As Marie Claire points out, Markle has mostly stuck to a neutral palette for her wardrobe since her wedding day. She's attended royal engagements wearing soft colors, including varying shades of white, cream, and blush pink. While her black jeans are a departure from that color palette, she still kept things pretty neutral with her button down top and white hat. Guilia Papailias, a styling expert at Beaumont Etiquette, spoke with Harper's Bazaar UK about Markle's post-wedding wardrobe saying "Romance is soft, like a neutral palette—she is a newlywed after all. Meghan continues to give us the fairytale that we became enamored with the first day we saw her walk up those stairs. She continues the magic."
Markle's casual capri pants look might mark the end of Markle's "honeymoon fashion phase," according to Marie Claire. If that proves true, it will be interesting to see the next phase of Markle's royal fashion journey. The pastel shades will be missed, but there's much more on the horizon for the Duchess of Sussex...style-wise and beyond.
