Hunter Hayes Drops New Single ‘Dear God’

Hunter Hayes is ready to be vulnerable. The country singer has dropped his new single “Dear God,” which was written as prayer confessing struggles of self-doubt.

Hunter wrote the track with pop hitmaker Andy Grammer after writing a letter en route to New York. “I had written a letter on the plane that was at first [called] ‘Dear World’ before I realized I was actually writing to God.” He goes on to explain that of all the questions the song presents, the final one in the chorus “hit [him] really hard.” “Why does my life have to hurt so much?/Why can't I find any piece of love?/And why do I feel like I'm not enough?/Dear God,” he sings in the chorus, “are You sure that You don't mess up.” Those questions, Hunter says, “couldn’t be more vulnerable.” “We all face the question of being good enough for the world around us,” the “Wanted” singer goes on to say, “and sometimes we just need a reminder that we are.”

Hunter previously announced he is working on a new studio album, set for release later this year.
