Dove Cameron Offers Support To Fan Whose Friend Just Died

Dove Cameron responded to a fan who confided in her about their friend's suicide with warmth and honest advice.

On Wednesday (August 28), Twitter user Ash Rose informed the Liv and Maddie star that their longtime childhood friend had recently taken his own life. He wrote: "@DoveCameron one of my oldest friends committed suicide last night. I've known him since kindergarten and all I can think to say is 'I'm sorry.'

In almost no time at all, the actress tweeted Ash back with some words of comfort and also shared an anecdote of how suicide had claimed the life of one of her loved ones as well.

“I'm so sorry to hear that. Suicide is one of the most confusing, heartbreaking, tumultuous things to try to understand or process," she replied. "It's been 7 years since I lost my father to it, & I am still lost most days. All you can do is tend to yourself, to his family, and give love to him.”

No stranger to managing with personal struggles of her own, Dove has been an outspoken force in raising awareness on the importance of self-care and mental health.

Last September, the singer surprised a 14-year-old fan on Instagram with information on how to deal with anxiety as part of #KIISCampus. “I reached out to her on Instagram asking her how she deals with anxiety and how she makes friends in Hollywood because that’s something that I  have been struggling with,” she shared on On Air With Ryan Seacrest.

Dove told the fan: “I don’t think there’s any human in the world that escapes pressure and anxiety. I think the goal is to remember that sensation of coming out of a darker time in your life … [and] remind yourself ‘I always come out of it and I need to not let myself forget that.’”
