That was fast.
Earlier this year, Iggy Azalea shifted labels from Def Jam to Island Records. After releasing her Surviving the Summer EP with the label, she announced via Twitter on Saturday (November 3) that she got out of her contract and is officially an unsigned artist.
"Wild you spend so long trying to get IN a record deal...never thought I'd be so elated to be OUT of one," the Australian artist wrote. "Now I'm free to release whatever kinda music I like, whenever I'd like woooo!"
Though the "Fancy" artist sounds excited to be going independent, fans may not be as happy to hear they won't be getting new music this year.
"Well still no music this year tho...," she wrote in a second tweet. "Iam no where near ready direction wise etc with the stuff I’ve been working on and I don’t wanna jump the gun and have some messy era aesthetically. I’m aiming to be ready to share new music early next year!"
Azalea was supposed to be on the road for her Bad Girls North American Tour this fall; however, less than a month before she was supposed to play her first show the 28-year-old confirmed the tour was canceled for reasons out of her control. The trek would have been her first headlining North American tour in four years.
