Amazon Driver Arrested After Being Accused Of Stealing Packages

Police in Utah arrested an Amazon driver accused of stealing packages from customers. Robert Powell admitted to officers that he stole the packages, which contained a jacket, a camera, soaps, and a book and was charged with five counts of theft.

An alert homeowner noticed Powell acting strangely as he drove through the neighborhood.

“He was kind of hanging his head out the window, presumably looking for addresses,” the homeowner told Fox13

When he saw Powell get out of his van and swap a package from his front porch, he initially thought it was delivered to the wrong house. But, when he realized the new package was not his, he called the police.

Officials said that they had received numerous calls about the driver and sent officers to track him down.

“[He was] feeling like the Grinch, and he was taking packages from those he felt didn't deserve them and keeping them for himself,” North Salt Lake Police Sgt. Mitch Gwilliam explained.

Amazon said that Powell has been fired and they are cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues.

"This kind of behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the high standards we have for delivery service partners. This individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages, and we are working with law enforcement as they investigate."
