A 25-year-old YouTube star died after he was tased while viciously attacking a young woman he had met on Tinder. Police in Cohasset, Massachusettes were responding to a report of a disturbance when they found Erich Stelzer stabbing 24-year-old Maegan Tapley.
Police ordered Stelzer to drop the knife and fired stun guns in an attempt to stop the attack. It took four shots from the taser gun to finally subdue Stelzer, who died while being transported to the hospital.
Tapley is expected to survive her injuries but will require multiple surgeries and extensive rehabilitation.
"She's going to mend, she's going to be alright. It's going to take time to recover," Maegan's mother, Susan, told NBC Boston. "She'll need plastic surgery and an eye specialist."
According to Mass Live, Stelzer "was experiencing delusions, erratic behavior, and extreme paranoia" and his family had recently asked the police to look into his wellbeing.
Following an incident on Christmas in which EMT's determined he did not need help, his family started to prepare for an intervention to force him to go to an inpatient facility to get treatment.
“Unfortunately, the events of Thursday night transpired before the intervention could be implemented,” Philip G. Cormier, a lawyer for Diane Keiran, Stelzer’s mother said.
