Cops Track Down Car Thief By Following His Footprints In The Snow

A homeless man who stole and crashed a car in New Jersey left a trail in the snow that allowed police to track him down. The owner of the stolen car told deputies that he had left it running outside of a local restaurant. While the owner was inside, 23-year-old Malik Evans allegedly hopped in the car and drove away. The owner of the car borrowed another employee's vehicle and started chasing after the thief.

Evans did not get far before he crashed the car on the snowy roads. He then fled the scene of the accident on foot, but officers were able to follow his footprints in the snow to track him down.

"The car was already crashed, the actor was already gone from the vehicle, and at this point, it was a foot pursuit," Hackensack Officer Michael Reo said.

Officers tracked Evans to a nearby backyard and found him hiding between two storage bins laying on his back and staring at the sky. Evans tried to fight officers as they attempted to handcuff him, but he eventually relented and was taken into custody.

He is facing charges of motor vehicle theft and resisting arrest and was given a summons before being released.
