Billie Eilish Is Tired Of Heartache In New Song 'Wish You Were Gay'

Before listening to Billie Eilish's latest song, "wish you were gay," it would be safe to assume this was the 17-year-old's vessel for coming out. But to many of her queer fans' disappointment, that was not the case.

The ballad is actually about a boy the alt-pop star was crushing on a few years ago, but the feeling wasn't reciprocated.

"To spare my pride/ To give your lack of interest an explanation/ I'm not your type/ Maybe I'm not your preferred gender orientation," she sings on the bridge.

"‘wish you were gay' is about wanting to be with someone so bad it hurts, and not wanting to accept that this person doesn’t want you in return," Eilish explained in a statement. "At least if they were gay, I’d have a valid reason for their rejection and lack of interest in being with me. I wrote the song when I was 14 and madly in love with a boy. It’s supposed to be a fun and playful way at dealing with rejection.”

The song is featured on the teenage crooner's upcoming debut full-length album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?, which is slated for a March 29 release. Listen to 'wish you were gay' below.

In April, Eilish embarks on a sold out North American tour in support of the upcoming album. She will also be joining the likes of Juice WRLD, Maren Morris, Old Dominion, Zara Larsson, CNCO, Brett Young, and Monsta X, with others to be announced, on the Daytime Stage of this year's iHeartRadio Music Festival in September.
