Luke Perry's daughter has spoken out for the first time since his death.
Sophie Perry shared a photo of her father on Tuesday (March 5), just one day after his shocking passing. "A lot has happened in this past week for me. Everything is happening so fast," the 18-year-old captioned the photo shared to Instagram. "I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support."
"I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I," she continued. "I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye. So [bear] with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly."
As previously reported, Luke, who starred on Riverdale, suffered a "massive stroke" on Wednesday (February 27). Paramedics responded to Luke's Sherman Oaks home around 9:40 a.m after receiving a call about "someone suffering a stroke," TMZ reported last week. While Luke was reportedly responsive and talking when paramedics arrived, his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the hospital. His rep told TMZ doctors sedated Luke after he arrived to the hospital on Wednesday, hoping to give his brain a fighting chance to recover from the trauma of stroke, however, the damage was too extensive. He passed away on Monday (March 4).
"[Luke] was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends," his rep, Arnold Robinson, said in a statement Monday, per USA Today. "The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time."
Sophie rushed home to Los Angeles from Malawi to be by her father's side last week after hearing about his condition, People reports.
