Tame Impala Debut Psychedelic New Song 'Borderline' Live On 'SNL'

Tame Impala unveiled a funky new song on Saturday Night Live.

Presented to the stage by Saturday's (March 30) episode host Sandra Oh, Tame made its musical guest debut on SNL with a two-song showcase. Leader Kevin Parker kicked the night off with a vivid, maraca-incorporated production of "Patience," the project's first single release since 2015.

Later, Tame returned to the SNL stage, this time illuminated with kaleidoscopic lights and colorful animations, to premiere a never-before-heard record called "Borderline," a groovy, feel-good tune elevated by Parker's welcoming and echoing coos.

While sweet-sounding and euphoric, the latter record expresses themes of a relationship gone awry, in jeopardy. "I was in for long at night for something/ We're on the borderline/ On the borrowed time, we've wasted one day/ Possibly a sign," Parker sings in the opening verse, which leads to lyrics of "pain and rapture" as he watches his beloved's "spirit ride like a train."

Parker hinted via Instagram that Tame Impala's last project, 2015's Current, would finally have its follow-up, possibly to come this summer. Until then, you can catch the project at Coachella during their two-day set in April — more details here!
