Billie Eilish Makes History With Debut Album

Billie Eilish put out her hauntingly beautiful, delightfully dark debut album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO? on March 29, and on Monday (April 8), it was confirmed her freshman effort made its debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart after selling a total of 313,000 units in its first week of release. Though this is exciting news for any artist, it's especially impressive coming from the anti-pop star. The feat actually makes history.

At the age of 17, Eilish is the youngest artist to hit No. 1 since 2009, a record previously held by Demi Lovato. She is also the first artist who was born in the 2000s to claim the top spot on the lauded chart. And the records don't stop there.

Of the 313,000 sales, more than half of them were pure album sales, which makes WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO? the second-highest selling LP of 2019 (behind Backstreet Boys' DNA) and the largest sales week for a female artist. Not too shabby for a teenager who recorded her debut album in her brother's bedroom.

Later this month, the young star takes her history-making album on the road for an extensive, sold out North American tour. Check out a full list of dates here.
