Everyone take a deep breath: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn't shade their royal in-laws by unfollowing them on Instagram. OK, so they *did* hit the unfollow button on Kate Middleton and Prince William's official Instagram account, but there's no bad blood here. Meghan and Harry also unfollowed Prince Charles, Princess Eugenie, and Queen Elizabeth. Don't worry, though, there's actually a really sweet reason behind their decision.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are only following the accounts of 16 mental health resources they hope to spotlight. They wrote a message explaining their unfollow spree: "We are hoping to shine a light on several Instagram accounts that promote mental well-being, mental fitness, body positivity, self-care, and the importance of human connection," SussexRoyal's caption reads. "Each month we will honor this same concept and change the accounts we solely follow based on a different theme or cause."
Mental Health Awareness has been one of Prince Harry's main causes as a royal. With the help of Will and Kate, he launched the organization Heads Together, which aims to change the conversation around mental health and hopes to end the stigma surrounding the topic.
Many people speculate that Meghan is secretly running the SussexRoyal Instagram herself (usually a palace aid manages official royal accounts). It would be super interesting if the freshman royal was behind this unfollow spree. Perhaps she was using her media savvy by unfollowing Will and Kate amidst all the feud rumors because she knew royal watchers would immediately pick up on this move. Instead of finding drama, though, a ton of great mental health resources got some time to shine.
