Halsey Blacks Out Instagram & Twitter Accounts — Is New Music On The Way?

Is Halsey dropping new tunes soon?

Hours after playing the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday (May 1), the pop singer made the bold decision to black out both her Twitter and Instagram accounts. Currently, what remains of her Instagram are just three separate black images. The same is also consistent with Halsey's Twitter feed, except none of her older tweets have been erased. Her latest tweets, however, have been six black squares, posted consecutively over 10 hours ago. She's also issued a newly-blackened profile photo on both her Twitter and Instagram profiles.

Earlier during the show, Halsey delivered an emotionally-charged presentation of her smash single "Without Me" and later hit the stage once again with BTS to perform the live world premiere of their new collaboration "Boy With Luv."

While unclear, these days, the "blackout" has become more or less an unspoken trend contemporary artists have adopted to signal new material — or an artist's new "era," as it's so often called — in the form of new music or a new album. (2016's Hopeless Fountain Kingdom is her latest LP.)

More than a month prior to the blackout, the songstress confirmed in March that her upcoming project, would have a distinctly louder sound. “I know you guys are anxious for new music and new memories for touring and travelling with your friends for events and pop ups and meeting new people for music video screenshots for group chats and late night,” the artist tweeted at the time. “Thank you for being patient with me. I want it to be perfect."

"I hope when it’s finally in your hands it brings you that same peace," she added, describing her record as "not a quiet piece. It’s a loud one."
