The Godfather Part II actor Carmine Caridi died last Wednesday (May 22) from complications suffered during a hospitalization for a bad fall, TMZ reported. He was 85.
On Wednesday, the celebrity gossip outlet reported that Caridi, who played Carmine Rosato in the first sequel, was hospitalized in late April at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles for the fall. Caridi had been receiving treatment for back injuries, but came down with pneumonia after almost a month in the hospital. He went on to receive a diagnosis on Thursday, but his health took an even bigger dip afterwards. Carmine's friend, actor and director Chazz Palminteri confirmed the passing to TMZ.
"From Broadway, to film and television, Carmine spent over six decades entertaining audiences, and nothing made him happier. His talent, wit, warmth, and charm will be missed. Carmine passed peacefully, surrounded by friends and family," his manager said in a statement. "Perhaps Carmine's biggest regret was his involvement in a scandal that left him expelled from The Motion Picture Academy. While exonerated by police and the FBI, Carmine was always deeply saddened by what had transpired."
Beyond his work as multiple characters in the Godfather series, Caridi also appeared in a number of TV shows like Starsky and Hutch, Taxi, Fame, Simon & Simon and, most notably, NYPD Blue.
