Mumford & Sons have shared the video for their latest single "Woman." The clip stars dancers Yeman Brown and Stephanie Crousillat as their understated love story is captured on a handheld camera and was filmed at choreographer Kristin Sudeikis' Forward Space warehouse in New York.
Inspiration struck after banjoist and lead guitarist Winston Marshall watched Brown perform an improvised dance routine to Beyoncé’s “Halo.”
“My heart went into my throat and I was quite literally moved to tears,” he told Dance Magazine. “It stole my breath away. I didn’t know dance could make you feel that way.”
Though the song's title is "Woman," viewers might be confused to see Brown in the majority of the video, but that was intentional. "We're seeing it through the female gaze, when often we see things through the male gaze," Sudeikis explains.
"It's a little deceptive because the story of the song isn't the woman," Winston adds. "It's the love between those two people and that's why the video is clever: It reveals that throughout the song. It's not something that smacks you in the face the first second of the video, it's something you learn."
"Woman" is featured on the band's latest album, Delta. Watch the beautifully understated video below.
Mumford & Sons recently wrapped up their massive Delta world tour, but that doesn't mean they're done playing live shows this year. The band is hitting the festival circuit, including stops at KAABOO and Austin City Limits.
